Boy Sheryl does that ever sound familiar. Even tho I had a desk job, I still walked a lot during the day because I worked in a large medical center and was always running stuff here and there to get out of the office. I retired due to fibro, chronic fatigue and migraines 5 years ago. I live alone but have 5 young grandkids here in Cheyenne that I help with often. Problem is when they arent around I have little reason to do anything. I bought a jawbone UP 3 weeks ago and it motivates me like nothing ever has. I love seeing my numbers of steps go up, to the point that I am dragging the grandkids out on 5 mile walks. (They love it.) I have heard a lot of great things about the fitbit as well, actually wou.d have got one of those instead had I researched first. Wishing you best of luck on your journey.

Hello everyone, my biggest issue is getting off my tush and actually moving. I have worked a desk job since the 80's, just retired and need to find the motivation to actually get up after sitting for so long. Any help is appreciated.

Kutey: Don't get discouraged. Your body could be holding onto water, or maybe your exercise regimen is creating muscle on your body, which weighs much more than fat. Don't let the scale dictate your mood or your sense of self-worth. You are beautiful and are doing the right and healthy things for your body. Maybe not weighing in for a month, but keeping up with exercise and eating healthfully, is a good way to go. That way, the pressure is off and you can just be healthy for an extended period of time. You'll start to notice your clothes fitting more loosely, your energy level increasing, and your mood in general.

I have not done anything today. I have been totally depressed. How in the world can my scale say 176.8 one week and 182.2 the next week? There is no way I could gain 5 pounds in a week if I was even trying to. Scale is working right because I had my ex stop by for a minute and weigh. His weight is the same as it was last time he checked it on the scale. I am so depressed that I am so,so close to just saying forget it and giving up on this diet. I will probably keep up doing more exercise since I like it now that I have started but as for all this tracking and all the other, I am at the I give up point. - as you can see, totally BAD day for me today

That is good. Give them a couple of days and then call them back if you do not here anything. make a note of all your calls and names of people you spoke to. Plus who called you and their details. Plus the dates and times. Then you will have a reliable record to fall back on when you need to argue your case. This might take a long time to win. Never think of losing. Right is on your side.
Have you managed to lose any weight this week?

You would think so Myrna. I am going to call that number I saw on TV on Monday and see what they say. If they can get his bills, hospital, therapy and I think 3 or 4 other additional billings I had to pay again then I will be fine. I don't want to profit, just get it fixed and get all the charges paid that should have never had to come back up. The office told me that at times they have to go in and resize it and it is just something that happens. We will see what they say when someone who knows the laws talks to me and/or them

If your surgeon made a mistake you should not have to pay for it. My daughter had a breast reduction that went wrong and she did not have to pay extra to get it fixed. She had a lot of extra treatment and surgery at no extra charge. It still looks bad. I am so upset for her.

Just keep going as you always do. You will get to what you want. It is hard to work at something when there is a condition that is pushing you the other way. I know sometimes I am sure you say, why even try, but I know you and I know you will get done what you get your mind set to. I know I am exhausted every day. I thought my energy level would go up when I started doing exercise but it hasn't. I need to go get everything checked out. I have been saying that forever but have never even picked up the phone to get an appointment. I think my sleep apnea which I have ignored for too many years may be a big cause of it. With the money I would have to spend that medicare does not cover, I just hate even thinking of how I could get that paid. Medical bills have me so far in debt now that it is terrible. I would be in a lot better shape if that dr had not put the wrong size implant in and had to do it a second time. There was a commercial on TV today about issues with a hip replacement and it mentioned having to have it done over. I wrote down the number and I think I will give them a call on Monday and see what they are all about. Just getting all those bills paid up would help me a lot. Calling can't hurt anything so I may as well see what they have to say

I have had a slight increase in the dose because I made a fuss. I am eating less and less now. I have lost a pound in the last 5 weeks. I am not upset. It is something. I am content because I already lost all the weight I put on when my thyroid first stopped working. I just have to lose the weight I put on when it started to slow down. Maybe 20 pounds to go. That should take me 18 months with my rate of weight loss. I may settle for a slightly higher weight and go onto maintenance. That will be tricky. It is very hard to get that right and not put the weight back on.

They do have you on lots of meds. It would be hard to ever figure out if one of the medications were causing issues.

My sister is on more than a vegetarian diet. I cannot think right now, but I know no meats and there are other vegetarian stuff that she does not eat. I think it is anything that has any preservatives something. I can't figure out how she eats anything. It would be awfully hard to be a vegetarian and not like many veggies. I love meat myself but I have not been eating much meat since I started the diet over. With your thyroid issues, I know it is going to be hard for you to lose. Did they ever get that medicine level correct for you?

Hi Bee. How are you doing?

I have all the same bad habits as you do. I think living alone makes it worse. The spare side of my bed is full of books and my laptop and kindle and music and just stuff! It looks like Big Birds nest! The Dr said I need all my medication. I take a 6 in the evening, and a couple at about 1am and 3 in the morning.
I am going to have to weigh myself this week to see how I am doing. I have been putting it off. because of my Hypothyroid my weight loss is in ounces not pounds. I wait a long time between weigh ins so I do not get discouraged. By the end of 2011 before I started treatment I had put on a huge amount of weight for no reason. I have really been struggling to get it off. I watch every mouthful I eat. I suddenly started getting sensitive to certain foods as well. Especially bread and pasta. If I eat them I get terrible cramps, a lot of pain. I have gone over to spelt bread and wheat free everything, plus I have been a vegetarian for most of my adult life. I think it is much harder to be slim on a vegetarian diet, especially if like me you do not like veggies very much. lol.

I really don't know what the reason is. I have had problems off and on for a long time. I really do think a lot of it is me. I stay awake most nights till 5 or 6 am then wake up around 9. I may doze for about 20 minutes during the day, then back up all night again. What I need to do is set my bedtime at 11 or 12, just relax 30 minutes or so before then and make myself get into bed. If I cannot fall asleep after 30-40 minutes, get up and do something for a little while then try again. I know that they say not to stay in bed if you can't sleep. I think that I could get my sleep habits right if I would just do that. I get to the point sometimes that I am so exhausted from my habits that I will literally sleep all day long. I might wake up for about 5 or 10 minutes and be right back asleep. It is like my body has finally had enough and crashed.
Not getting sleep will totally exhaust you and I also read it is bad for trying to lose weight. I hope that you can find some answer. Have you ever asked your doctor if what you take could be doing that to you? He may be able to help you find a way to get your sleep in. I am sure that the lack of sleep does nothing for those bad migraines you get.
You can come by and see me in my sleep soon and just give me a great big hug. I could sure use one. - nothing really wrong but a good hug always makes everything better

I thought he had stopped coming to you?
After a few days I do go to sleep for about 12 hours. I think it is something to do with all the medicine I take. I have not managed to sleep since weds. I am hoping I will sleep tonight. I am exhausted. I have had a lot of aggravation the last couple of days which has not helped.
What is the reason you cant sleep?

myrna, I don't know how you can do it. It hit me yesterday evening and I fell asleep and could not get awake for anything. My ex came by and washed his clothes with mine at the laundry room. I was so sleepy that he ended up folding all of my clothes for me. I could not even stay awake to talk to hm and barely remembered him leaving. One I did get up, I did a few emails then got into bed and still slept all night. I think my body could not take anymore. I wish I knew what to tell you so you could get some slleep because i know how bad it is on you when you don't

all of that could really get a person confused especially if they move from here across the pond or vice versa. I usually use cups and ounces so even when something says it is so many grams, I have to figure than one out and grams is used here often. Maybe one day, everyone will have to same way to measure. I doubt it, but it is wishful thinking. I blew the h@ll out of my diet snacking at the superbowl party I was at. I thought I was just getting a little of this or that and eating more grapes but when I tried to put down every little thing I think that may have been in anything, it came up to A LOT. I may be over what I really did eat, but I am leaving it. I had rather is show over than under. Hopefully I did not add up under because I was shocked. It was all

Clothes getting looser is a better indication than the scales for how we are doing. The scales can be a hard task master, and often very cruel. Not a good guide to how we are really doing. They do not show how we are improving in health and fitness even when the dial is not showing any downward movement.
Kutey, Yes, We used to weigh in Stones and ounces before metric. Mammy and I still use the old measuring system that we are used to. The same for cooking in my case. I am not sure if Mammy still bakes in pounds and ounces. 16 ounces makes one pound. I use inches for body measurement and height. I find centimeters and meters very difficult. I am 61 inches tall,

Wow Mammy, you are really doing great in your weight loss! I did measure myself the other day. I have put on a few more inches then I had back years ago when I last measured, but thankfullynot many. I don't think I lost any inches from the other day to now though, I'm not that good! It will be interesting to see in another 3 months when I measure myself if I have lost any. I just hope I keep the motivation to keep going!

Congrats to everyone on here that has lost the weight! I have a scale at home, but it doesn't work quite right so I honestly don't know if I've lost weight. What I do know is that this morning as I was picking out clothes for work, I decided to be funny (or maybe it was to prove to myself that I wasn't doing good enough) and try on a pair of pants I haven't worn in over a year. Before they were very tight and didn't even button all the way up. This morning however, I put them on, zipped them up, did all the buttons and I was so happy to find that not only did they fit, but they were even a little big!! Color me surprised! Now I have a "new" pair of pants to wear to work!

That is what I do. lol. I still convert the money from old to new in my head as well. I do not even try to understand the Euro. On the labels of clothes we have the price in pounds and Euros. because I cant see properly I have a hard time telling the price of anything. Then spark recipes are in American cups which need converting as well. Cups and sticks? I get so confused. I like pounds and ounces. I really feel so old!

thanks Myrna. I never understood the metric unit measurements myself. I know we studied it in school, but if you don't have to use it all the time, you forget. That is what computers are here for now. We can just look up pounds to kilos if we need it for some reason. LOL

Pounds is good, we understands pounds. We have problems with kilos. We changed over to metric a long time ago but still have trouble using it. At least I do. I still use the old method in my head. I use all my old cookery books and tape measures and rulers. Mammy you do all your own sewing. I am sure you can work out the newer system?
I am glad you are going onto maintenance. You are getting too slim now. Still, it is better for your hip that you are lighter. Kutey, you have made a good start on your weight loss. Slow and sure is the way to go. That way you will not lose muscle mass which would be bad for your body.

I restarted on 01/08/13 at 184 lbs. I weighed Tues and am down to 177.8 lbs,-- 6 lbs in 3 weeks. Thought I would loose a little quicker to begin with since I have not moved at all in so long but am totally happy with the loss. I know 1-2 lbs a week is good. I have no idea what it is in stones?? I have to look that up sometime. So weird that we all measure and weigh stuff so differently in different areas of the world

So maybe you should now try to go onto maintenance to stop losing weight?
