This morning's weigh in complete my first 10 week challenge. I didn't lose any weight this week but I did lose inches. I was astonished to find I'd lost 1.5 inches this week! I don't know how exactly, just catch up I suppose. So pleased!!
In 10 weeks I lost a total of 9.4lbs and 9.5 inches off my hips, tummy, thighs and upper arms. I'm really impressed with myself!
On to the next challenge!

Hi everyone, I'm just writing a note to say bye. It's been great and you all worked very hard. You guys rock! I turned 40 in March and I'm moving over to the '40 somethings' team.
Good luck everyone and I'll be 'seeing' you around the message boards, but not here.
Ciao!

I'm back!!! Back to the real world, but what a wonderful vacation! Went with my best friend from high school and her husband, who I haven't kept in touch with much over the years. We had so much fun catching up, laughing, and relaxing. There was damage on the scale, but it was so worth it. I told myself I'd be happy if it was less than 3 pounds, and it was 3 pounds exactly. I'm not going to change my ticker until Friday, hoping a lot of it is just water retention. I am amazed at everybody's success on here--very inspiring! I think it helped keep me in check a little for vacation as well. It definitely could have been a lot worse. I did okay with the food, but the drinks were tasting too good;) Looking forward to keeping this up with all of you in the next challenge!! emoticon

Official week 9 weigh has me down 1.4lbs this week. I'm not dehydrated as far as I know but I can't take credit for the loss yet. This stomach bug has me eating too little, not a good balance and way off on activity. That's ok. I've been really trying to focus on keeping calories up(more than they would be if I just ate what I felt like eating anyway) and resting to recover faster and I think it's working. I'm feeling a bit better so I should bounce back in all my key areas by next Monday and that number will really count to end my 10 week challenge. I do expect it to be 10 in 10 but we'll see. :)

I did it!!!!!!!! I reached my goal weight of 133 lbs!!!!!!!! WOOHOO!!!! (Just imagine the loudest yell you have ever heard ). Not like I gave myself any extra lbs. to play with this week. Only down .2 on the week, but I am extremely happy. When I weighed myself this morning, I had to get on the scale three times to make sure it was right. I worked out everyday this week and added to my routine. And my NSV this week was doing 4 sets of 10 (regular) push-ups!!! I even impressed myself because I have never been able to do that before.

So what is the first thing I thought about? That I want New England clam chowder for dinner. And I am going to treat myself tonight. I believe I deserve it. Yay!

Looks like a lot of us did well this week. I am so glad!! You have been so helpful and inspiring to me. Chic, I hope you feel better. Jo, you know I am one week behind you on the schedule, but keep up the hard work. You are almost there! KK and Ummwaleed, way to go this week.

I plan to stay on the next challenge to stay inspired by all of you and continue to my next goal. I need to figure out what that is. I think I would like to lose 3 more lbs. so that I can stay in this range and maintain. Thank you for helping me reach this day!

weighed in at 138.8. that's a .8lb loss. That's 5.2lb in eight weeks. Not as good as I hoped but will really try harder in the next challenge.

I'm surprised to report that I've only lost .3lbs since Monday. I'm surprised because I have a stomach bug and have been so nauseous and tired this that every food sounds disgusting and I was afraid a huge chunk of weight would be gone. I've been compensating by trying to eat calories dense foods like peanut butter, cream cheese and tostitos whenever I can eat as well as lots of water and tea. Yesterday I consumed an embarrassingly low 950 calories and I couldn't have fit in another bite of anything. My exercise schedule has been off for the week too as I need rest. Sick just plain stinks.
Anyway, I'll finish my 9th week on Monday so that's when I'll record any loss for this week.
So far I've managed to average a 1lb loss per week so I'm chuffed about how I did in the challenge!

Everyone has done an amazing job in the past 10 weeks – Congrats to all of you that hit your goals!!

I am so thankful for such a supportive group & can’t wait to continue with the next ‘reboot’. Although I’m only down a little over 3 lbs for this one, if it wasn’t for these challenges, I’d probably still be stalled at 150 and not happy about it. Hopefully my body & work life aren’t as tough on me the next 10 weeks as they were last month & I am optimistic that I will reach my goal of 140 in the next round.

I am totally fine with the slower loss though; I’ve realized that if I do anything too drastic, I won’t be able to sustain or maintain it for the long-term and will just revert back to old (bad) habits too easily.

On a side note, the other day my best friend and I did a much-needed purge of my closet – I literally still have things I wore in high school – and Oh Boy was it funny to see all those huge shoulder pads from the late 90’s! It was interesting to note the change in sizes from back then - things that should have fit according to the tag size were just way too small to wear…. However, I was excited to actually fit into some of my old favorites again, and found a new pair of “goal jeans” that look super cool and almost fit!

Have a great weekend & See y’all on the next one!
-Kim

Final weigh-in, and I'm at 140.9, up .7 since last week. :/ Can't say I'm surprised since it's been a rough week for me with my lower back pain. I just haven't been able to get a lot of cardio in. Nonetheless, I'm still pretty happy with the loss overall - 7.1 pounds is still something to be proud of. And I'm excited for the next challenge since 10 pounds gets me about to my goal weight.

Congrats Jo on reaching the challenge goal and practically your goal weight! And congrats KK - 7.5 pounds is awesome and it sounds like you feel really good! Be proud everybody - can't weight to hear everyone else's results! I love being a part of this challenge.

Final weigh in!

I'm at 66 kg today, right in the middle of "that week." Even though I would have appreciated to have my final weigh in on a "normal" week, I've started that second challenge at 70.6, it's a total loss of 4.6 kg, which are 10.14 lbs! I don't even need to cheat and try to discount the bloating!

emoticon

I'm (virtually) at my current goal (65 kg), I'll do the first weight in on the 19th with the new challenge and set my new goal to 60.

Depending on the tool, my ideal weight is estimated between 58 and 62 kg (128 to 137 lbs), so 60 sounds quite good. 65 is OK, it's a BMI of 22.5, but I still have enough fat to lose more, believe me. I've also realized that during my teenage years and my 20's, I've had variations of weight with a low at 48 (with a BMI of 16.6... It was a weird time of my life), but I've mostly been, without even thinking so much about it in my high 50 or 60's. I arrived at 70 around 30, didn't like it at first, got used to the number, and slowly took 1 kg a year until be actually overweight. I want to go back to my normal weight.

I'm actually OK with losing more slowly and get there by the end of summer, focus on strength training and muscle building, but I still want to join the challenge, as I think it really helps me.

I'm so in for the next challenge.

Final weigh in day for me today! I lost a total of 7.5 pounds. It may not be 10 pounds, but I am thrilled with it! I haven't been at this weight for 17 years. Of course this will probably change a week from now, but I'm hoping the new challenge will help me undo the damage from vacation. Great job everybody--can't wait to see everybody's results!!

CHICVINTAGE : the more I talk with women in their 30's (it seems that a lot changes for us "hormonally" during that decade, whether or not we get pregnant) the more it seems to me that there are no rules... I have friends who are all for non hormonal BC, not liking taking hormones or not tolerating them physically, on the other hand, there are the ones like me who wish to have a good hormonal medication to keep everything under control. I'm also quite sure there's a lot of money to be done here, but until quite recently, medicine was purely male centered: every one was treated the same, without regarding the sex, the ethnicity, kids are treated like mini-adults, etc., while we may actual respond differently. I may be menopausal long before they come up with something good :)

As for the challenge, I guess you could still hang out, maybe come up with a different 10 weeks goals that can be put in numbers somehow?

ASTAPP : well, let's do so then :)

My TOM fluctuations are not as drastic as Jo's and like you Cici, I used to never experience anything and always wondered what other women were talking about. However, the past two years I've started experience some weight gain before and during, bloating (like noticeable-my-bras-aren't-fitting-right), cravings, etc. I also am frequently wiped out the week of and tend to lose all color in my face. It's weird how the body changes over time.

Speaking of, last week was my TOM and this week my lower back is stiff and sore. I have no idea why but it's making exercising difficult, which is frustrating. My NSV is going for walks despite the back pain. (I don't think the back pain and TOM are connected, but they made for a challenge trying to find an NSV for the week!)

Sounds like everyone had some great NSVs this week - loose clothes/new clothes, meal planning. Can't wait for Friday's weigh-in because I know many of us will probably be hitting our goal weights! emoticon And I'm excited for our new challenge - SparkJo, your plan sounds great. I like the full week to recap.

Your experience is very interesting Jo. More research definitely needs to be done! Personally, I'd think there'd be a lot of money in relieving women from that kind of monthly disruption but I'm not a pharmaceutical company. ;)
Very curious now about the difference in effects of birth control/artificial hormones and natural menstrual hormones. I wonder if it's like the difference between natural labor and pitocin educed/enhanced labor?
I'm not on hormone based birth control but I was before my first pregnancy so in my experience worse symptoms and BC usage overlap.
What could be really a shame is that pharm companies are making so much on their BC products that they don't want to do the research that proves that their products are causing the problems in the first place.
Anyway, back to the main topic....:P
I haven't decided if I should participate in the next thread or not. As of now I'm very happy with my weight. If I were to lose 5 more lbs it would just make me look a bit better in my swimsuit. But toning work alone may do that without any additional loss.
But I love checking in on this thread every week! It's a nice group and it's been motivating for me over the last two months.
Hmmm.....

ABOUT THE NEXT CHALLENGE:

This Friday is the final weigh-in.

emoticon

If you're ready to start right away, I was thinking of opening a new thread for a April/May/June reboot for Friday the 19th of April. It would give us a full week on this thread to post on our results, what we thought about this challenge, etc after the final weigh in. The final weigh in of the new challenge would be Friday June 28th.

Friday the 19th of April would be week zero, time of us to introduce ourselves, start over, goals, starting weight, a bit about ourselves, maybe get a few new members, remind the "rules" (I was thinking of copying and pasting what Coxbeth had written at the beginning of this thread, it was complete and well written).

CHICHVINTAGE : oh, yeah, I know, "studies suggest"... I should send them my weight curves and food tracking ;)

I have a coffee a day, everyday, I sleep well throughout my cycle (one thing by body does well), I may have a beer on Friday and a glass of wine on Saturday, but I barely drink any alcohol. (And writing that down, I realize how predicable I am!!). But a few days before my period, I'm starting to have lower belly pain and within 5 to 15 minutes, it grows in a quite impressive way (I've had people being there at that time and asking me what was happening to me... looking at me like they were expecting an alien to come out of there) and within a couple of days, my ring becomes very tight and I have +1-1.5 kg on the scale (probably some of it around the belly area due to the inflammation). I keep my "6-months pregnant" belly 3 to 5 days. Every month, the same thing.

I know about bias, but it's now been months since I'm tracking food and weight and it pretty much removes all possible interpretation... That's how I work and it's not in my head.

About the cravings, I could consider that it's not directly the hormones that make me want eat more, but the facts that I'm in pain, that I can't do all I want, and that I'm basically just down and bored and hating my life, so I want to eat to make me feel better. That may be psychological. The water retention isn't.

I actually changed doctor a few years ago because he basically suggested that PMS was in my head. At the time, I was off the pill with my natural cycle. Each month, I had to lay in bed 48 hrs because the cramps were so bad, I had headaches, lower back pain, nausea, sometimes fever. But it was in my head, of course. I must admit that I didn't have any cravings at that time, because the vomiting and shivering actually prevented them quite well!

I blessed the years under the pills: flat, controlled hormones levels all the time, possibility to suppress my period, it was a blessed time, until my body stopped tolerating it. I moved to the Mirena.

I'm not thrilled, as I have my actual cycle and that having a cycle always meant being miserable 30% of my time, but it limits the flow and helped a lot with my anemia.

Just consider yourself lucky if you're living normally through that time. You have know idea how I hate it and how I wish I was uterus-free. It's been a pain in my a** for 20 years now and I just want it to stop. I'm considering an hysterectomy when I get closer to my 40's. Sometimes I'm hoping they find me some kind of problem down there requiring to take it out earlier. I wish studies wouldn't focus on whether some women are hysterical mythomaniacs, but rather on how to really relieve these women from that burden.

It's a quite sensitive topic for me, considering that no matter how firmly I decide not to let my cycle dictate my life, it does, and not in a fun way. I just try not to think about it too much and wait to be a few years older to get rid of all of it.

I'm one of those weird women that doesn't experience bloating, weight gain or cravings during TOM. I did when I was a teenager but never experienced them again after my first pregnancy. I weighed in last Friday down over 2 lbs and started TOM an hour later. Mostly all I can find online are theories about progesterone levels and water retention but no actual facts. A lot of the research on PMS symptoms "suggests" alcohol, caffeine and sleep cycles around menstruation are the most likely triggers for cravings. A study at Penn State claims cravings and weight gain are myths if you care to read: http://news.psu.edu/story/141424/2000/01/0
1/research/hormone-myths
Anyway, my NSV for the week is my resolve to walk a half marathon in June. I've never gone a distance quite that far. I love to walk and it doesn't seem overly strenuous, although time intensive. I started training yesterday with a 3 mile session. It is hard to get in the time to do that before school starts so I'm giving up precious online time but it will be worth it to accomplish something so "big". :)

Sweat is just fat crying!

Wow, you had a rough week Kim! Glad you're hanging in there and keeping at it! Great planning SparkJo, I should do that more. Sometimes I feel like I'm in a rut with my eating. My NSV for the week is buying a size smaller pair of work pants which fit well--no more baggy butt as my husband puts it so nicely;) Have a great week--my final weigh in will be Thursday morning as I'll be flying Friday morning to a much needed vacation!!!

Well, my NSV for this week is that I survived last week! hah... sorry for being MIA again, busy at work w/ out of town meetings, two separate bouts of possible food poisoning, and yet another week of allergies, sinus issues & migraines. I'm a mess. Anyways, still not back to 100% but I did do my bootcamp videos this morning, so I guess that counts :)

I'm so glad to see everyone was doing so well last week!
Jo - Great job on meal planning - I may do that for this month; hubby is working a crazy schedule, so I'll be on my own for dinner and can make whatever I want yay!

And I am all-in for continuing with another re-boot of the challenge... with so many of us getting closer to our goals, why stop now?!

Have a great week team!

Tuesday! NSV!

For this week, it'll be what I posted as status yesterday: PMS is hitting hard, almost 3 lbs of water retention in 36 hrs and cravings, cravings, cravings.

Yesterday, I picked an old WW recipe book, chose four meals, one for each evening of the week, went to buy groceries (veggies and more veggies, fruits, turkey, shrimps, salmon, among others) and so far so good, I have cooked and had two of these light and tasty meals already.

I'm fighting big cravings right now, I'm not hungry, I just want to eat stuff, I only get that when I'm hormonal and I hate that. The rest of the time, I don't even think about snacking or sweet stuff. Really, how much harder our hormones make it, huh?

I know, but giving it a name doesn't make it less weird ;)

I tend to eat the same range everyday because I have the same appetite... Unless I work out significantly more. But at least that means if I go over my range here and there, I shouldn't feel bad about it :D

That's called calorie cycling, Jo. I do that every week! I stick to my range of 1160-1440 during the week and generally hit 1700 on the weekends. My body really thrives on cycling. Keeps it guessing and concentrating on running well and burning, not storing, fat.
Anyway, my official loss for week 8 is 1.5lbs. Yay!
I'm changing up my fitness routine again to start training to walk a half marathon. My hubby thinks I'm nuts. :P

Chicvintage : I've noticed that if I follow the food range "perfectly", without going over or under for weeks, my weight loss tends to slow down, but if have a series of days with a significantly varying calories range, or if I eat more (!) one weekend after a a couple of "good weeks" ... my weight drops. Weird.

Wow! What a great week for most of us! So busy today, I did not get a chance to check in earlier. I was ecstatic when I got on the scale this morning. 133.2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes!!!!!!!!!! I am right there and can see the light!!! Had alot of stress this week. When I am stressed, I do not eat much, so I think that may have helped alot. I will be interested to see if I can reach the true goal and then some next week.

Great job everyone! emoticon

Awesome job everybody! I almost want to wait until tomorrow to weigh in again as I didn't believe the number on the scale this morning--144.5!! Just when I think I'm not going to lose anymore weight, the scale surprises me. Of course I had TOM last week which helped;) I'll have to set a new goal for my ticker now--I'd have to lose 9.5 pounds to achieve my wedding day weight. This team has really inspired me to keep going, even when the numbers don't move quick enough--thank you!!!!!

Way to go on your losses, Jo, Chic, and Amenah! Must feel good to be at a weight you're happy with, Chic, and know that any weight lost after this would just be a bonus. And Jo, a 20 lb loss!!! That's fantastic! And you're practically at your goal weight.

My weigh in was 140.2 today. Amenah, I know the "bloat" and feeling happy even about a little loss during that TOM. I'm at the end of mine so I'm happy about going down a pound from my last weigh in which was not last week but the week before... so I feel like it should be more but with that TOM, 1 lb is pretty good.

Wk 0 - 2/1 - 148
Wk 1 - 2/8 - 146.5
Wk 2 - 2/16 - 146.9
Wk 3 - 2/22 - 144.2
Wk 4 - 3/1 - 144.0
Wk 5 - 3/8 - 144.0

Jo, Hopefully you'll stay on track while partying.
CHICVINTAGE, Nice to mix it up and keep your body guessing. I wish I could get back to my wedding day weight too but it seems impossible to maintain. hopefully you'll get there though.
I lost only .6 lb but it's better than the .2 gain last week gain. TOM is here and I can feel the bloat.
I'm moving this weekend and have been busy packing all week but still managed to get in 4 days of cardio. Couldn't do any ST this week but will hopefully add it back in next week although I'll be busy unpacking and organizing.

WTG Jo!
I had to pick up my jaw off the floor after my weigh-in this morning. I'm down 2.25lbs since Monday!
The only thing I did differently was to halve cardio, increase yoga time by 50% and start toning more seriously with crunches/push-ups and various squats with a resistance band. My overall exercise time was down by 25%. I suspected that my body needed the break anyway and being so close to my usual maintenance weight I decided to switch focus from overall fat burning to muscle toning. Weird how it made me lose even more. :D
What's really cool is that my weight this morning was my pre-pregnancy weight with my first. I saw it briefly between pregnancies as well, but it was the low end of my fluctuations. This is my comfy weight right here and I honestly don't truly care if I lose anymore. I think it would be interesting to to get back to my wedding day weight(the end goal on my ticker) but it isn't a pressing concern or anything. My hubby says I look skinny now. ;)
From now on I will be shifting my focus to toning up.

Friday!!

I'm passing by very quickly, I slept though my alarm clock and I'm very late for work..

This morning weigh in: 65.9 kg It has finally moved and brings me to 9.1 kg weight lost which is 20 pounds! If I go metric and imperial, it gives me twice more milestones :)

Boyfriend's birthday this weekend, sister-in-law's birthday this weekend... It will be a test.

I may actually reach my goal in this challenge, I've even seen a slightly lower number earlier this week, but I think PMS is going to hit very soon and may ruin my satisfaction (again)(temporarily)

Have a great weekend everyone!

I am in for a new challenge as well! I figure after my vacation next Friday, I will need all the help I can get to take off the weight I gained(all inclusive resort) My goal is to keep the gain to less than 3 pounds and hopefully nothing. The last time we took a vacation to Walt Disney World 2 years ago with the kids, I did not gain anything. BUT, we did a ton of walking! This resort is pretty spread out, so I'm hoping to get a lot of walking in and time in the fitness center to counteract those beverages;) Luckily my final weigh in for this challenge will be the night before our trip emoticon

To be honest, I'm waiting to reach 65 kg to make a print screen, post it in my pictures and set myself another goal :)

And this group would probably help me a lot keeping motivated

Hey everyone,
Sorry I’ve been MIA the past week and a half. Things were crazy at work, at home, etc. and though I had an NSV last week and this, I just didn’t get around to posting them, and completely forgot to weigh-in Friday… oops.

It sounds like everyone is still plugging away – frustrations with the numbers on the scale maybe but it sounds like some of us are noticing clothes fitting differently and have to go shopping! Way to go! Great NSVs this week too. KK and Jo, you guys have amazing Easter self-control! I think I ate half a bag of jelly beans by myself. emoticon Kim, that must have felt awesome to have the person you’ve been using as your yardstick notice your weight loss! So cool!

I’m totally open to starting another 10 week (or whatever!) thread. I’ve really enjoyed being a part of this great group and would love to continue. I love hearing everyone's challenges and successes. Plus, I haven't hit my goal weight yet and could use continued support. emoticon

Oh, and my NSVs! Last week, it was running 4 miles in 31 minutes. This week, it's walking Sunday and doing yoga on Monday even though my quads were still sore from lunges I did Thursday. (I really overdid it.)

I am fine with starting a new thread and getting more people involved. I am hoping to reach my goal in the next 1 1/2 weeks, but I would like to take off a few more lbs. before I start maintenance. I will also keep active on the thread because I enjoy the camraderie I have established with all of you. So, whatever works best for everyone is fine with me. emoticon

If you look at my signature, you'll see than I also joined the first challenge halfway and jumped into the second one when it was opened. There are other people who joined "mid-challenge," if we wait for everyone to finish their 10 weeks, it'll be quite long, especially if new people decide to join! Why not just jump all at the same time in the next one? We could keep posting here, but I feel that if we start a new thread and let this one die, it may also encourage other people to join and we could all start together. What do you think?

That is so cool Kimberly! Maybe you will be her new inspiration. ;)

Jo, I started a bit behind the group so my 10 weeks is up on my April 22nd weigh-in and I'll be posting here until then. I think that's a little over a week behind? If you'd like to start another 10 in 10 thread for when this one is over(based on the original start date), I don't see why not. :)
I just might start a 5 in 5 challenge thread myself. :D

We're 10 days away from closing this challenge.

What should we do? Open a new one afterwards?

Great job, ladies! I definitely had my share of chocolate this past weekend. Love it!

My NSV happened today at the gym when one of the fittest women, who goes to the gym everyday and lifts way more weight than me, stopped me and said that she noticed I am really slim and asked if I have been losing weight? She wanted to know what I was doing because it was noticeable.

Yay! It's working!!! She doesn't know it but she is part of my motivation in my group classes. I watch her use heavier weights and do cardio and she looks great, so I have used her as my gage for pushing myself more everyday! Ironic how things like that happen isn't it?

Keep up the good work and keep pushing!!! We can do it!!!

I like the nsv SparkJo! My NSV was eating sensibly at 2 Easter parties on Sunday while enjoying a little dessert. No gain on the scale yesterday morning! I consider that significant as Mondays tend to be disastrous for me anyway without holiday parties. Hopefully the scale will be kind to me on Friday at weigh in;)

I had to chuckle at your post Jo. :D I may not be Italian myself but up until last year I lived in South New Jersey. Italian culture and food is very prevalent there. LOTS of good eats! My church was nearly half Italian-Americans and the pot-luck suppers were unreal. I actually worked in an Italian bakery for a time too. I have run into that same attitude with the people that came in there and at church. At least at those places I was able to eat enough stuff to "make people happy" and then retreat home where I could balance it all out with healthy stuff. If I lived in Italy I'd be toast. :/ You really have some awesome will-power!(and WTG on pacing yourself with the chocolate! Sounds delish)

My NSV.

Every year, for Easter, I like to eat one 100g white chocolate Lindt rabbit.

Nutrition wise, it's a disaster, but it's so good. www.lindt.ca/fileadmin/lindt_ca/01_p

Anyways. You can't find the white bunnies everywhere and last year, first year in Italy, I missed it. So when I saw that they were already on sale in a Lindt shop in my area two months ago, I bought one and kept it until last weekend without touching it. I've been eating about 20g a day since Friday, as part of my diet, and I still have 20g for this week :)

Of course, my NSV is not to have eaten pure white sugar with added fat, but that I've kept it all this time without even obsessing about it, I've enjoyed bits of it, within my food range.

Have a good Tuesday everyone!

Coming from an Italian family and growing up with a mother who grew up in Europe, I know what you mean. Food is the way to the heart for most of my family and my mom is a great cook, but she uses alot of fat in her cooking. So my tracking was off this past weekend too. When I went to Italy years ago, I think I gained 5 lbs. in two weeks even with all the walking I did. The food is amazing, but you are right, Jo, most are insulted if you do not eat all the courses of food and drink the wine. If you are cooking for yourself, then you are doing great! Keep up the good work. It will show up on the scale eventually.

Italians are extremely susceptible when it comes to their food. They have the best in the world, it's the healthiest in the world and if you're not able to recognize this, it's probably because you have no taste anyways. I'm barely exaggerating. There's in no polite way to refuse food in this country, even "I'm watching what I'm eating" because pasta 7 times a week and cookies for breakfast, is how everyone should eat.

That is a hard situation Jo! I don't like insulting people either but it's your body and your health at stake. I had to do this somewhat at my sister's house and I'm sure she was miffed at the stuff I turned down. :/ I'm glad to hear you are standing up for yourself. Is there any polite health excuse you could make to maybe lessen the "insult"? How about "I'm watching my fat/salt intake" or something similarly vague?

WTG Chic, you're doing well in that challenge.

Cooking my own food makes me pickier with food in general, I think. I have colleagues over at home for lunch tomorrow and I was planning on making a salmon-broccoli tart (the day before) with some green salad, fruits for deserts. For once, we're not eating at the cafeteria (we eating for free there, choice between three first and second dishes, first is pasta or rice or "too-salty" soup, you don't even want to know about second... I learnt how to read the menu and choose the least bad, but it's not always easy... plus they feel like I'm insulting their food, it's annoying, but they have no idea of nutrition and like their food white, oily and salty), I proposed myself to cook, I should at least have something I'll enjoy, no? A colleague proposed to bring sweets, another one pâté... I said (maybe a bit bluntly) "bring what you want, just don't be upset if I don't touch it, I don't like most cakes and I don't like pâté. I know you Italians don't trust non Italian people to cook, but if I invited you, it's also so I can eat something I actually like once in a while."

I'm tired of eating food I don't want to please people.

Jo, WTG on planning and cooking all your own foods! I personally think that is the real secret to my own success. I didn't lose any weight at my sister's because I didn't know exactly what she put in everything or how much exactly I was eating. I had to rely on guessing with the nutrition tracker with what other members entered when I got home. At home I healthify all my recipes with whole grains, less sugar and oil. I measure and weigh my portions. I eat 5+ servings of fruits and veggies daily. It is extremely rare that I at anything anyone else cooked.
Over this weekend we got Chinese takeout, first fast or restaurant food for this house in over three months. I ate reasonable portions of moo shu vegetables over three meals and used the numbers in the nutrition tracker. I highly doubt they are accurate and I know I'm retaining water from the salt. It does take a lot of time to "micro-manage" food but I think as close to accurate as possible numbers are the only way to really know you are hitting your goal numbers with nutrition. You can do everything right but if there is 1 cup of butter in that recipe someone else made/packaged food and not 2TB like the tracker states, all the good you think you are doing will be wasted by bad information.
Anyway, I'm down .5lb this Monday, dern salt! :P That's 6.5lbs in 7 weeks. :D

Chickvintage : I have re-evaluated my routine, added strength training, removed 100 Cal daily (I've lost 10% of body weight, I need less food now), etc. I need to wait a bit and see what happens and I will re-evaluate if needed. I'm losing volume, I can be doing it all wrong ;)

I must also say that my body has been acting strangely this month, my "period" (I'm on the mirena) lasted 12 days (twelve days of belly pain and sausage fingers) , then it's ovulation and bloating again, my digestive system is lazier than ever (I've augmented the fibers, the effect is still not obvious). I don't know if it's stress or what, but it's not working like it's "supposed to be."

Good news though (it may be an early NSV) is that for the long easter weekend (we have Monday off) I decided to take control of the meals, planned meals for everyday, we went groceries shopping, I cooked quite a lot and this morning the scale was 2 lbs down... Let's see how it behaves until Friday and the official weighin, but I'm starting to wonder if it's not all stress related somehow. Or it just means that I need to plan every week, cooked every week and that MY cooking is doing my a lot of good.

I hope you had a great weekend and have a good week start!

Sorry that this is so short and quick, I am traveling to my mom's for the holiday and do not have much time. I saw the recent postings. Looks like we are not losing as fast as we want, but losing inches is great!
Cici, great job with the weekly goal.
I am down to 134.5. This week was not so good for my healthy eating but I will take it up a notch. Have a great weekend everyone!.

Well, my scale isn’t stuck, but moving in the Wrong direction - despite that fact that I have exercised Every Day this week, and haven’t been chowing-down on junk foods.
My thoughts on my weight increase this week: A) my body retains more water when I’m exercising, since I seem to drop lbs quick when I’m not. B) my body is catching up from the ‘off’ weeks I’ve had this month. C) it’s just the Mexican food I had for dinner last night Hah. Any other suggestions are welcome! : )

Anyway, I hope that my return to working out regularly will help turn this around again. As we’re nearing the end of this challenge round, I’m getting closer to my goal and even if the scale doesn’t move, the fact that my clothes are fitting better is very encouraging!

Everyone is doing such a great job sticking to it through good & bad weeks – I am always inspired and motivated by all of your experiences & accomplishments! emoticon

Have a great weekend & a wonderful Easter to those celebrating it! emoticon
