I'm goig away from a couple of weeks, so I won't be able to come on the forums (no computer and high roaming prices for data). When I come back, I'll join you. January 7th. 1 lb a week. Well, it'll be 500g or 1.1lb/week, it's easier for me.

I am proud to announce that I have maintained 158 lbs. I was so sure that I would go up a pound or two because I indulged in some Christmas candy, but now that I think back I did only have a handful, last Christmas I would have eaten the whole bag.

I love that food just taste so much better when you don't over indulge. There is no guilt afterwards, just the enjoyment of a treat that you don't normally have.

I know I am a little late this week. I was hesitant to put it up here because I can't believe it myself. I am a head of schedule. However in my experience I will go back and fourth three to four pounds before it sticks and I go down again.

1 pound a week seems a very reasonable goal. I'd like after the holidays, even though I won't be exactly in tune. I'll be away from home during two weeks, with a limited internet access, I'll be glad if I manage to track the food via the application.

Inspiring challenge, you're all doing so well emoticon

Here's YOUR weekly recap (just a few days late)! I won't be around the interwebs for next week's weigh-in, so if anyone else wants to recap it for everyone, go for it. Or we can all just wait till the next week. :)

emoticon COXBETH - Oh thank goodness, back on track with the loss of 2lbs from last week. Most of my overeating this week was on healthy foods, and I drank so much water my molars were in danger of floating away. Got a plan to stay on track so that when I come back after vaca, I should still be absolutely on track.

emoticon KIMBERLY_Y - Had an amazing 1lb loss! Yes, I do mean AMAZING! Life handed her lemons, and she avoided the overly sweet lemonade trick that everyone falls for and INSTEAD she made lightly flavored lemon water out of 'em. By which I mean she listened to her injured body and held back on exercise and then also held back on calories to counter it. EXCELLENT WEEK!

emoticon SCAPP3LL3 - Maintained a steady 142.5lb, even through an illness. The big win was that she kept moving anyway and has her eye on the prize for next week! It's so easy to feel sorry for yourself when you are ill and do nothing - sweating it out (within reason) is a really hard decision.

emoticon SCORPIOLILY16 - No loss, but the woman has FUDGE in her house. And it's been there for more than 10 minutes, which is a self-control/willpower win if there ever was one! Maintaining during the holidays isn't easy, but I know you'll work-the-plan and see a loss soon.

MIA this week:
DOINGTHISFORME5 - (who weighs in on Mondays usually and will probably get added to this recap ASAP)
HAPPYTOBEME79 - (I'll be sending her a private message to check in - probably wouldn't hurt if anyone else wants to comment on her page or something to tell her we all miss her!)

Ok, so I'm on track on the scale, but the last two days have been off track everywhere else. I've had quite a bit of overeating this week on trips outside the house (two restaurants), but the harbinger of bad-things-to-come is that I overate/drank last night while I was at home. :( I need to stay on track on days at home and even if the scale doesn't show a gain, I know that this is a bad habit that needs to be nipped in the bud.

Fortunately (?), my hubs is planning a last-minute trip out of town. So we will both be gone for 6 days. Then I'll spend a day or two at home and head to my parents' place for a week of Christmas stuff. So actually there will be a LOT out of my control. I'm hoping that knowing that I have this challenge will help keep me honest about my food intake. It starts tonight with an office holiday party at the boss's house where his wife has already made cupcakes that she wants us all to try. (yeep!)

I'm not worried as much about activity - we're going skiing for the vaca and I'll go to they gym with my dad every morning when we're at my parents' house. And Saturday morning I have a mud run with some friends that should also help keep me in motion.

Yesterday is but a dream, tomorrow but a vision. But today well lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness, and every tomorrow a vision of hope. Look well, therefore, to this day.

Well, no loss this week, just essentially maintained. It was not a very good week food wise, but I did manage to Not eat all of the fudge my husband so thoughtfully brought home from his trip last week - the fact that there is any left at all after a week is saying something...
Next week will be better!

I had ups downs this week but ended down 1 pound. I had setbacks because I could not workoit all week. My back had spasms so I was hobbling around. I cut my calorie intake more because of it. I am thrilled with this result.

This week I have maintained 142.5. It's been a bad week that started with a migraine and ended with a cold. I've been so cold and miserable all week that I know I reached for food to comfort myself even when I shouldn't.
On the positive side, I ate a lot more fruit than I normally do. While trying to ward off the cold I ate grapefruits, lemons, and oranges every day.
Plus, I'm trying a new exercise class today, so that's good too.

Good: Before I started Spark, a week of being sick would have put me in front of the tv, bundled up in an afghan, eating junk. Now, at least I'm eating fruit and doing some movement.
Bad: I am now 1.5 lbs behind schedule. Have to make it up this coming week.

Celia - Stopping weight gain is still a great accomplishment when you are already fighting so many battles on other fronts (like financially and medically). I'm so glad that there is a solution for the migraines on the way and I hope you can get that taken care of soon!

I am disappointed that I didn't lose but at least I didn't gain. My eating has been good all week. It's just that right now I can't exercise and that is hurting me. I miss it too. It will be better soon. My botox got approved (for my migraines) but I won't have the money til the first week in Jan. I'll just keep on keepin' on til then.

CoxBeth - Thanks for the Recap! - I'm proud of you for praising yourself for those accomplishments - You deserve it too babe!

I love the idea of setting rewards for reaching smaller goals, but never really followed thru for myself... maybe that will be my next step in this journey. But mine probably won't be for weight loss goals, more likely things like 'doing 10 REAL Pushups' hah!

Keep it up team!

I'm still working on more, but I haven't thought of something I would really want.

Tomorrow's my weigh in day. Today, so far, my eating has been good. I doubt if I get in any exercise time. The kids are here and I have to drive them back to their dad's--2.5 hours one way. Church was awesome! My 17 year old joined. She told me she would do it when she graduates in May and moves here, but she decided today was the day. I was overcome with emotion. I hope all of you are having a good weekend. Monday will be here in a few hours!!!

I'm still trying to figure out a rewards system for myself; I love the ones that DoingThisForMe5 has listed in her signature line. Does anyone else have rewards for small goals as part of their plan?

Here's a weekly recap of the work we did. Ladies, this is EXCELLENT WORK! Let's go in to the weekend with focus and come out strong and proud!

emoticon HAPPYTOBEME79 - Down an OUTSTANDING 5lbs! If you remember, her goal at the end of the challenge is 155lbs, and today she hit 160lbs! AWESOME!

emoticon KIMBERLY_Y - Had a serious rally after a slight gain last week. This week she lost that gain AND another 0.5lb! Goes to show you that mental fortitude and not giving up are vital to long term success.

emoticon SCAPP3LL3 - Down to 142.5lb, which is only 0.5lb off her goal for the week. Despite a last minute "oh no oh no oh no" feeling two days ago, she's still down! Rock on chica!

emoticon SCORPIOLILY16 - Also down 0.5lb! With sleep issues and itchy hives and a few other life hurdles that she could have used as excuses to throw in the towel, she got up and worked out and earned every ounce of that 0.5 lb!

emoticon DOINGTHISFORME5 - DOWN DOWN down! Everyone seems like they are taking a loss this week and DoingThisForMe5 is spot on with a 0.4lb loss!! You always gotta watch out for the quiet ones and she's making a quick an quiet move down the scale this week. :)

emoticon COXBETH - Stabilized after losing some water weight and is steadily on track for the challenge even though there was a 1lb gain from last week. Less alcohol and more iron (strength training baby!) are the non-scale victories for the week.

(Week 0) Nov 23 - 137
Nov 30 - 134 (goal: 136)
Dec 7 - 135 (goal: 135)
Dec 14 - ? (goal: 134)
Dec 21 - ? (goal: 133)
Dec 28 - ? (goal: 132)
Jan 4 - ? (goal: 131)
Jan 11 - ? (goal: 130)
Jan 18 - ? (goal: 129)
Jan 25 - ? (goal: 128)
Feb 1 - ? (goal: 127)

So I'm up from last week, but I still think that number was artificially low and I'm still on track to meet my end-of-challenge goal. I'm trying hard not to be bummed by the difference from last week. I weighed everyday for the last two weeks and my body's routine was to drop to 134 for a day, then go up to 137.5 and slowly come back to 134, then back up again to 136.5 and slowly back to 134, then up to 135.5, etc...so the trend is still downward-ish. Importantly, I'm not continuing the steady gain that has been going on for the last few months.

I'm also seeing non-scale changes like consistency with my workouts and a pretty dramatic decrease in alcohol. For example, if I were on the same path as before, I would have had about 36 drinks since Nov 25. Instead, I've had 15. I still miss it somedays, but I'm finding myself enjoying it more when I DO drink because it's more mindful instead of binge-y. I looooove getting back to lifting and I actually got back on the water one day this week, so that's big wins on the workout front.
Edited to add: Also, writing up the weekly wrap-up above and saying nice things about myself was an act of will. I'm still feeling the urge to cheer on everyone else and say mean things to myself, but this may be one of the first times I not only didn't say anything mean, I also didn't just leave myself off the list - I actually said true and nice things. So another NSV!

I did get weirdly nervous actually adding my goals to the list at the top of this post. I feel like I'm tempting fate to even write numbers like "132" and writing anything in the 120s actually made me queasy. I'm just a liiiiiiiitttle bit nuts sometimes, but I'm planning to use that as fuel to make good choices.

Great Job this week everyone!
I too am only down another 1/2 pound again, but that seems to be my body's pace - I am fine with this as long as it's going in the right direction!

This week was a long, tough one, and even though I didn't really 'work-out' I was active in other ways each and every day - that makes 2 weeks in a row for me - another new personal best - WooHoo!!

Good morning, all!
I weigh myself every morning too so that I know to keep doing what I am doing or not allow myself a treat during the day. Since I am home in the afternoons with my girls, sometimes I snack with them and weighing myself in the mornings gives me more incentive to "knock it off." I would say that snacking and not accounting for everything that I ate was my worst habit before SP. This week I lost what I gained last week and then a 1/2 pound, so I am thrilled with my progress. emoticon

Good Day Everyone,

I do weigh myself everyday, It is my morning check to make sure that I stay on track. When the scale goes up I eat less and drink more that day. When it remains the same or is less I know I can just keep doing what I've been doing.

Nov 30- 165
Today 12/7 - 160 lbs. a new low for me.

Wohoo!

I've discovered that a 'bad' reading on the scale can ruin my mood, so I only get on once a week. That way I can be grumpy only one morning of the week! emoticon

I weigh myself every morning as well, but never really count any changes until my 'official' weigh-in on Friday... I try to take the small changes in stride, and if it's up and doesn't go down the next day, I just try a little harder and put in a little more effort with excercise & tracking my food/water.

This week has been really rough for me... little sleep, itchy hives in the middle of the night from some unidentified allergy, cleaning the house like a mad-woman before the appraiser came out today (refi-ing, what fun!) - which i did count as my 'excercise' for the day because i was too exhaused to do my regular workout.. and to top it off, i lost my credit card this morning.

But, I actully dragged my butt out of bed early this morning to hit the elliptical, even if it was for only 15min, it's better than nothing - my small victory for the week!

Hope last week's efforts help with this week's weigh-in!

I weigh everyday because that's just my routine. I don't mind going up and down a little everyday as long as I see a downward trend. But, sadly, I'm seeing an upward one these days. :(

I'm hoping that will motivate me to stick to my plan today and tomorrow though....

Oh, and I can totally fit into clothes better than I could two weeks ago. I mean, not a whole size or anything, but the fit is a little more comfortable than when I started SP. And I know this because when I started, I could see the outline of every stitch imprinted on my body when I went home to take off my jeans at the end of the day. That was my final straw to join SP - I don't want to buy new pants again. Now, it's more like every other stitch. So that's my NSV, even though I don't expect my raw numbers to be awesome.

Only two days to weigh-in and I'm starting to panic. I'm not getting on the scale but I really don't think I've lost anything! Yikes!
Ok, breathe.........it's just one pound, impossible to 'feel' a loss of one pound in my jeans, right?

The day is a little better - I'm still peeved that I don't have time for cardio, but I'm getting some good work done and I'm committed to not canceling on my friends this evening (which is a problem for me - I've gotten a touch of social anxiety lately and getting out and about it going to help my attitude).

I also found this www.nih.gov/researchmatters/december
20
12/12032012exercise.htm
- it's an NIH story about how exercise adds years to your life, even controlling for obesity. So if you are obese and get exercise, you'll still add years to your life, even if you don't lose weight. So scale, schmale, I'm still going to keep up the activity.

I'm FIGHTING to stay positive today. The scale hasn't been reinforcing my work lately and if I hadn't put 4 messages on Spark yesterday telling other people not to let a number on the scale ruin their day, I would have let that damn piece of equipment really mess with my attitude.

I also overslept. I woke when the alarm went off, but a night of tossing and turning had left me wasted tired. So I snoozed a little, knowing that, for me, to snooze for 9 minutes is to snooze for 1.5 hours. I woke up 3.25 hours after I planned to get up, which means no row for me in the morning and it screws up my plans to get into the office super early. Now I'm working from home until traffic dies down and I can drive in without spending an undue amount of time in traffic. (I'm trying to make myself go in more since I feel like I'm missing out on some important interaction-with-my-boss-and-coworkers time if I work from home as much as I've been doing.)

This is not the end of the world. I can still get my day on track. I just have to keep saying that.

Yesterday is but a dream, tomorrow but a vision. But today well lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness, and every tomorrow a vision of hope. Look well, therefore, to this day.

My weigh-in was typical at only half a lb, but I am confident next week will show just how much progress I really have made - for the First time EVER I have actually excercised Every Single Day so far this week!!!
I never believed all those folks who said getting up earlier and excercising in the morning makes you have more energy, but I kinda do now... it's not that I have more energy, but getting out of bed earlier and working out is alot easier since I seem to be much more awake right away now...

My first weigh-in day on the challenge is a bit out of sorts (in a good way) ... a lot of this is because I'm drinking all my water now and I've only been doing that for the last week. Before this challenge, I was drinking about 64 oz of water every week instead of every day. :)

I AM IN!! I'm so glad I found this and look forward to the support / accountability too!

If I don't post on Friday, pester the heck outta me!! haha - I really do need support to hold me accountble since I usually seem to slack off by myself, and those around me in life just don't do it often enough...even when i ask them to... glad to see we're in good company

I'm new to this kind of challenge also, but welcome it and the opportunity to make a few new SparkFriends :)

And now, the part that it thought was HTML happy:

I emoticon me some science, so I keep an eye out for research findings on motivation, willpower, and habits. It helps that I work for a cognitive neuropsychologist who runs a lab that studies these things. It also helps that he's a big cheese and occasionally goes mass-media so I can understand all of the science/statistics that he speaks at work. I'll try to find and post science-y things on those topics once a week. I especially like this one because it is my boss explaining some ways to set and meet achievable goals on a local news show last year (it was a New Year's Resolutions show). He mentions that going public with your goals can sometimes be detrimental - if you don't have support then it can make you less likely to succeed. That's why I'm excited about our challenge and Spark in general; we are creating a community that DOES provide support and just being here is a step in the right direction!

Urk. I typed in a whole post, then it thought some part of it was html, so it said "no" and erased EVERYTHING I WROTE. I knew the system did that sometimes and that I should always select and copy everything before I hit post, I just totally forgot about it.

So, to sum up the post-that-is-lost-to-the-ether:

Horray! I'm not alone! I'm so glad we're forming a little accountability/support group! So far, I have the members listed as:

Post as much or as little as you want, but if you don't do something at least once a week, we'll all come check in on you. :) I'm not sure if that's a threat or a promise, but take it as you will.

I'm in. This sounds great, if I am focused on this challenge, skipping all of the yummy baked goods during the holiday season won't be so difficult.

I am 165 lbs now and a size 10/11. My goal will be 155 lbs by Feb 1st. My goal weight is 146 so then I will be almost there and ready for summer!

Here are my numbers. I'm really afraid that I will fail, so I'm going to try really really hard! May I ask a favor? If you don't see me post for a while, will someone send me a message to get my butt back in action? I'll do it for you too, if you want.

And, I'm going to try not to be negative and post only positive affirmations.

This is my first challenge too. So I appreciate the comments. I will do weigh-ins on Fridays too. I need to be held accountable because my "choices" have not been very good. Any advice during the next 10 weeks would be appreciated.

I haven't done anything like this yet either, so I'll just make some stuff up and anyone is welcome to step in and add or subtract from this:

1 - Whatever your weigh in day is, post all the dates and your weights for them. I like weigh-in-Fridays because it gives me either a negative or positive reinforcer to stay on track during the weekend.

2 - Once a week (probably Friday), I'll post a big ol' congrats list of people who lost at least 1 lb in the week.

3 - Everyone commits to posting on here at LEAST once a week with something of substance. By that, I mean don't just post your numbers. It could just be a statement like, "This week has been wildly stressful for me. No time to post! Sorry!" Anything to just keep us accountable to each other for at least being mindful of our long term goal.

4 - (This is my personal thing that I'm working on, so let me know if you don't want to do it. It's hard and I'm not perfect at it yet.) Don't say anything bad about yourself, at least in this forum. No statements like, "I was so bad yesterday." when you could say, "I let myself eat a bunch of food off plan yesterday." I have a long history of saying "I was bad." or "I'm so lazy." or stuff like that. But when I say things like that, it's a cop-out. "I made some choices that weren't on my plan," is a statement that acknowledges that I made the choice (it wasn't some inherent, unchangeable characteristic in me) AND it doesn't get all label-happy with words like "bad" or "good". I mean, for some people (gluten intolerant) one piece of bread is a choice that leads to pain and misery; for other people it's a tasty way to fuel up on some pre-workout carbs. Food is just food, it's not bad or good.

Comments?

Yesterday is but a dream, tomorrow but a vision. But today well lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness, and every tomorrow a vision of hope. Look well, therefore, to this day.

Ok, I'm in. Weigh in's on Friday works for me. Do we post here? This is the first challenge I've ever done. I want to lose 13 pounds before my birthday, March 19, so this is perfect for me. I haven't managed to do it yet, but with some encouragement and other sparkers holding me accountable maybe this time it will work.

Yesterday is but a dream, tomorrow but a vision. But today well lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness, and every tomorrow a vision of hope. Look well, therefore, to this day.
