I'll take up the challenge. I'm 146 right now and loosing 12 pounds in 12 weeks would be a good way to work towards my goal of 15-20 pounds by Christmas at the latest.

Hi Nic- Congratulations on loosing 7 inches, that's a great accomplishment. It's sounds like you are doing something right. You may need to adjust your calorie intake, you may need to consume more calories. I just recently kick started my weightloss again with a change in my diet and workout program. I have started using Core Fusion videos 4 times a week. I saw a change in my body in 2 weeks. I have also tried to cut out almost all highly processes foods and using the website 100daysofrealfood.com as a resourse. It helped me to change how i look at food. I love food and love to cook and this site helped me to do it in a healthy and nutrious way.

Keep up the good work.

Help! Just found this challenge. I am relatively new to Sparkpeople primarily using the app to track food and fitness. I basically have a 2-3 lb weight loss and weight gain since March. I am working out, running and eating around 1200 calories most day. No real progress besides losing 7 inches overall. I am at my wit's end. Please help.

My weigh in was today...

4/24: 154
5/4: 152.6

I took my measurements and I am finally loosing inches. I have lost in my waist and the mommy tummy area, right below the belly button. My hips, thighs and arms are the same but getting more toned. I know the hips will take awhile to shrink down, it's one of the last places I loose weight but strangely one of the first. Between the hips and the knees is where I put on weight easily and it's slow to come off.

Melissa- I also weight myself everyday. I know I shouldn't but I seriously can't help myself. I just keep my fingers crossed that on weigh in day it's where I want it to be.

Keep up the good work everyone.

Megan

Thanks MEGANCA! Today is not weigh in day but who am I kidding, I weigh myself everyday lol. I was 133.5lbs this morning, which would be 12lbs overall since I started losing weight over 8 weeks ago. The scale has been moving a bit slower these days because I haven't been eating quite as well as I was early on. Would love to hear how everyone else is doing!

I have been slacking on my weight loss. I am hoping this challenge will motivate me to keep going, watch what I eat and get those work outs in. My goal is to run 30 minutes on the treadmill 2 x a week and do Core Fusion Body Sculp 3 x a week. My current weight is 154 and my goal is to hit 142 (or less) by 7/20.

Good luck to everyone :)

Hello All! I just found this post as well. I'm hoping to lose 12lb in 12 weeks...I actually started 2 weeks ago. That should put me at my goal by 6/23. My goal is to walk at least 20 minutes during my work day. So far, I've lost a little over 2 lbs. Kudos to you all for embarking on this journey! Let's get this DONE!

How is everyone doing? Saturday and Sunday were a bust as far as diet goes this week but I am still doing the 30 day shred and haven't missed a day so I am proud of myself for that! Down one pound this week. That makes 9lbs in 5 weeks for me. Just hoping not to gain this week as there is a lot of chocolate in my house! Hope everyone is doing good.

Okay all, I just found you. I've been using Spark to keep track of intake & exercise since 3/19/12. It's a very slow go. I have fibromyalgia & no motivation to exercise. Help me please! The post regarding sodium intake is something I wouldn't have ever thought of so thanks for that one, as well as all the posts just letting us know how it's going for you. That is motivational for me. I know with fibro I must stick to low impact exercise, I do like the elliptical & swimming. Unfortunately the pool isn't open yet! LOL! My current weight is 136.6 as of last Saturday. That's where I've been staying since I started Spark. I must get motivated to exercise more!!! My daughter graduates on May 12th & I want to be back into some of my older jeans (just purchased last year) before attending. the sizes vary from 4-6 so the 6's would be wonderful by then. Then I'll work on the rest! My 12 weeks begins today. Determined to hit the gym today, even if it is alone! I hate doing anything alone!

PAKSENARRION Thanks for sharing the tips you got from the fitness instructor. I never would have thought to watch sodium intake for weight loss. I am down 4 pounds so far. I have a goal to be in the 130's by the end of the month.

Hi everyone! I'm doing pretty well now! I've had a change of attitude and am starting to do what I need to do to lose weight! Since I had the change, I've lost about 6 pounds in 2 weeks! I've seriously curbed my soda intake. I went from 2-3 20ounce bottles of coke a day to one 12 ounce can. My goal is to completely cut it out this weekend. I talked to my fitness instructor. She asked me to give her my food log over a couple of days and found that I was consuming way too much sodium. I've started cutting that back. She also said I need to eat snacks. She said it speeds up the metabolism if I eat several small meals a day. So I started doing that. I've made sure I get my water intake of at least 64 ounces a day. And lastly, I've started doing bootcamp class regularly and trying to exercise in between classes as well.

I hope I can get down to 140 before summer starts!

I'm not sure how many are still keeping up with the challenge as there hasn't been many posts lately. Today was weigh in day for me and I am down another pound this week, which makes for a total of 8 lbs overall in 4 weeks so I am very happy with that. I am still counting calories and am currently on day 14 of Jillian Michael's 30 day shred. Hope everyone else is doing well! emoticon

Hi everyone,

How is everyone doing? There hasn't been much activity lately here. I hope everyone is doing well. I'm down about 2.5 pounds. It's a start. I have to focus on not eating when I'm not hungry. Big challenge for me. It's not often that I'm actually hungry. I eat mostly because I'm bored or because I just love the taste of certain foods. Last night, after dinner, I had a drumstick icecream cone. I wasn't hungry at all, I just wanted some icecream and I felt overly full after I ate it. :(

Tuesday and Thursday are my 'bootcamp' workout nights. I've noticed that I'm able to give more energy to the work outs and push myself more. That means I'm getting healthier and stronger! Loving that!

Keep going everyone!

Hi everyone,

Sorry I haven't been on...it's been one thing after another :( I'll weigh tomorrow morning and see where I am.

Every week I keep sayin I'm going to stop drinking soda, but I can never seem to do it. I feel like a slave to it now! :(

Congrats to those who are meeting their goal!

I am down 5lbs in 2 weeks but I have a feeling the weight loss will probably slow down a bit now. I feel my willpower breaking! I am trying to do 2 of the 10 minute trainer workouts daily and keep my calories around 1500-1600. So far so good!

Hi to all doing this challenge! I started counting calories and trying to exercise one week ago so I would like to join this challenge. I just joined sparkpeople a few days ago. I also just started tracking my calories on the site. Today was weigh in day for me and I have gone from 145.5 to 142.5lbs this week, so a good start but I tend to have a hard time staying motivated, especially to workout. Hoping joining this challenge will motivate me!

Welcome, and we're happy to have you! Good luck!

Just remember to weigh yourself the same time every time you do...I usually think early morning, before eating anything is the best way to go...that way there's no variability based on what you ate that day (if you weigh yourself in the evening).

Welcome!
I know what you mean about sugar addiction - I've been working really hard since joining this board last week to limit my sugar intake.
One area I would use tons is in my daily cups of coffee. I found some Agave Sweetener at Costco and have started using that instead. It's been a great substitute - I don't miss my sugar and it doesn't taste weird to me, like Splenda, etc.
Good for you for coming on here! We can do this and it helps to have some accountability, even if it is to strangers on the internet.

Thanks - I totally agree it sucks! :P
My doc suggested riding a bike or swimming. Part of the reason I love running is that it feels easy to me - put clothes on, warm up, go, cool down, change. Easy, right?
For whatever reason, othe exercise seems hard. I need to just suck it up and start riding my recumbant bike at home - it just sounds so hard with this stupid boot due to how heavy it is.
He also said I could lift weights or do pilates - just that I have to leave my boot on at all times.
So, I'm looking into swimming - even though that sounds REALLY hard (reason: must wear boot till I'm out at the pool, take off, keep dry, swim, dry off leg, put boot back on, go to locker room, take boot off, shower, put boot back on...).
I swear, I'll get more positive here soon!!!

Hi! I'd like to join you all if you don't mind. I'm not sure my current weight, but it's between 155-160. I'd like to start watching what I eat and lose at least one pound a week. I have a terrible addiction to sugar and Coca Cola that I would like to try to break. I do bootcamp workout 3 times a week at the Y. I should probably try to slip in some other exercise in there as well between classes.

I'll weight myself tonight and find out my starting weight. My ultimate goal is to get to 130-135, but starting with 12 pounds in 12 weeks seems like a good start!

Paks.

Oh ladies, this is going to be a long 12 weeks...just found out yesterday that my foot injury is actually a stress fracture in my foot. [insert all sorts of inappropriate language]
So, yeah, this is going to be an uphill battle...

The .2 could totally be water weight - did you work out harder than usual the day before you weighed yourself? I've noticed if I run more mileage or do something harder than usual, I way more the next day. Your muscles are repairing themselves, so they're retaining more water.

I've rejoined Spark today after a year of hoping that having an account would yield some weight loss results! Now I'm ready to actually take action. 3/4 has always been my favorite date on the calendar. If you read it aloud, you say, "March Fourth" or "March forth...", as in, move forward. That's what I'm planning to do and was excited to see your 12 week challenge. I'm joining a bit late, but look forward to tracking my progress here.

Here's my numbers for this week:

Starting weight: 140.2
Today's weight: 140.4

Gained 0.2 pounds. Not what I was expecting. Worked out 5 times this week, and ate within my calorie range for 6 out of the 7 days.

PS: I've done the Shred DVD in the past and it's great, but very high impact. I would recommend lifting weights for an hour on two other days. Another low impact activity the dr recommended to me after my injury was the elliptical. That's good, as long as you make sure you're note letting the machine and all it's momentum do the work for you....hope this helps!

Hi there!

So funny-- I'm actually just recovering from a torn ligament in my right ankle as well! :)

For my 5 workouts a week I am planning on doing 3 days of spinning classes at the gym, and 2 days of strength training. This week I've already done 1 spinning class, and 2 days of strength training. I'm spinning tomorrow and Saturday to complete 5 workouts. Average spinning workout is 45-50 minutes, strength training is 1 hour.

Also, I use a polar heart rate monitor to track my intensity in all my workouts to make sure I'm working out hard enough.

What are you all doing for your 5 workouts per week?
I'm a runner, but my right foot is currently injured. I've been riding the recumbant bike every other day, which only adds up to three days of working out. I do intervals when I'm on it - 60 seconds at super high speed/resistance and then a 30 second recovery, with both a 5 minute warm up and cool down. This has been great, but I don't know what to do on my off days that is low impact (for my foot).
I own a treadmill, as well, and the 30 Day Shred DVD. I'm just concerned about my foot! Would lifting weights on off days count?
Thanks ladies!

That is an awesome goal! I'm trying to lose 10 - 14 lbs (would love to weight 140, but haven't weighed that since high school!). I put my weight goal as 1/2 a lb a week b/c I'm nervous about starting again and not reaching my goals on time. Really I want to get back to taking better care of myself and having better food in my house (and controlling my portions!).
I'm married and a mom to two boys (3 1/2 and almost 2 years old) and work four days a week currently. I'm going down to three days a week for the month of March - hoping my work lets me stick with it after that.
Anyway, just looking for help being accountable to my goals - thanks, again, for posting this!

I weighed in this morning at 143 so my goal at the end of 12 weeks is 131. I joined SP a year ago and was very active with SP for 3 months or so. My daughter became seriously ill so doctor appointments, tests, meds, worry, fighting with insurance companies overtook my life. I have been back on SP for about 2 months. I'm hoping to fight the heart disease that seems so abundant in our family and improve my overall health.

I'll take a look at the "lose 1 pound or 1 inch every week" team. Every bit of motivation on here helps :)

Sounds awesome! Thanks! My goal weight at the end of 12 weeks is 128.2, but I hope to be able to lose more after that....my ultimate goal weight is 119.

How can I be most helpful to you? Shoot me a message whenever you feel you need a pick me up or encouragement, ok? By the way, I also found a team called "lose 1 pound or 1 inch every week" and I've subscribed to that as well.

How long have you been with SP?

Your starting and goal weight are almost exactly what mine are. I'm here to cheer you on and push you if you'll do the same for me. Time to look and feel like we want too!

Hi Everyone!

I just started with SparkPeople today, and my goal is be 12 pounds lighter in 12 weeks (a pound a week).

I'm 140.2 lbs today (I'm 5' 4"), and my goal weight is 128.2 by 5/20. The reason my goal is not more aggressive is because I have tried those aggressive goal several times and not met with success, which has led to frustration and disappointment. After reading "The Spark", I have decided to go the "slow and steady wins the race" route. Would love it if anyone wants to do this with me!

So how do I plan on reaching this goal?

1. I will work out 5 times a week
2. I will track my daily nutrition intake on this website

Cheers!
