I signed up to run a 5k on April 27th. I started jogging on Sunday and I am only able to make it about a mile and I have to stop half way through. Right now, none of my clothes are fitting and I just feel uncomfortable all the time. I have a little over 5 weeks till the race and I am hoping to lose 10 lbs by then and keep it going to lose another 10 lbs after.

My biggest problem is eating out all the time and drinking alcohol. So, I am trying to cut out the cocktails and cook more.

I just want to get back to a comfortable place, where I feel good and my clothes fit.

One week into my new exercise and nutrition regime and feeling great!
5 pounds lost which is 25% of my goal!!!!!
I am also 3 days into taking garcinia cambogia extract, as well. Unless it has a placebo effect, it is assisting me with suppressing my appetite. I usually enjoy a "snack" in the evening but I have a new no eating after 7:30pm rule. The extract might be doing this by increasing the amount of seratonin in your body.
I bought the Health Canada approved brand that was at my Whole Foods.
My first reward for myself comes at 6 lbs lost and is taking a day trip hiking up a mtn.
Only one more pound to go until I can look out from that mtn top!

Thanks! I also struggle with not thinking I'm good enough to be my goal weight or something. I sometimes sabatoge myself when I get close to my goal. Even though I'm thinner now than I have been in years...there's still an insecure fat girl in my mind telling me I will never be happy...guess I need counseling or something.

I think we all struggle with it. I have always said it is in the mind. That you are either thinking you are invinsible and can do no wrong. Or your scared of your own success, because what if it doesn't bring you happiness, what if you fail again, isn't it better to just fail now. If you look in your heart you'll find the little voice that tells you to go overboard.
Just track your food, and when you getting ready to take that bite, look into why, are you really hungy, do you have a salt craving, or does the image of success mean something deeper.

Does anyone get messed up when they weigh themselves? I feel like when I lose some weight I eat more. It's something psychological... does anyone else struggle with this or an I the only one?

I am trying for this too! I started at 132 and would like to hit 115 by Christmas! I definitely need a workout buddy to be accountable with since that is one of my biggest problems-sticking with it! It's great to know I'm not alone and you all are with me

JMFWIFE, I weighed in at 141 on Friday and have lost 5 lbs. since I started on Sept. 5th. My goal is to loose 15-20 lbs more. Since we are practicallly in the same weight range with the same goal, I'd buddy up with you if you're still looking for one.

I realized the 1000 calorie deficit thing a few days ago when reviewing my progress. I have been burning between 500-700 calories per workout. I usually do the elliptical for 55 minutes and then lunges, squats, pushups, situps, planks, and weights. I try to get a class in once in a while too.

I basically have to be super cautious about my calories, or this weight is not coming off! I cut out wine, too. That definitely helps. Feeling nervous to find out how much I weigh when my scale finally gets unpacked!

Need to up my game if I'm going to get another 20lbs off! I put back the weight I lost this summer, and I did it pretty fast. I have to get more honest and thorough with my tracking and avoiding cases of 'food amnesia' that I've been suffering.

I was 175 last Saturday, I'm not sure if I'll come in at 173 this Saturday. I doubt I'm getting rid of 1000 calories per day, I need to focus on that for a while. Where can I lose that 1000 calories to hit that 2lb weight loss goal?

I'm 5'8" and determined to make a change now.

JennK- you are so dedicated! I've been trying to lose 10 lbs for the last year, and have been hoping to lose 20, but finding it hard to totally commit... I'm glad I joined the challenge!

I've been sticking to my calorie range, and doing 10k on the elliptical in less then an hour. I'm trying to add the stairclimber- but I can only do 10 minutes of that... then I'm doing 50 squats.

I miss running - I was running on the beach during my vacation, but no more... since I injured my hip on a treadmill last year, I stick to the elliptical in the gym. I do have a 1 mile running path near my apartment, but it seems like not enough of a distance... I guess I could repeat it like 3-4 times! Somehow I don't trust myself to do that :)

Every 10 weeks I do this challenge! Right now I'm more than halfway through another 10 week set and I'm not going to lose a full 20 this time, but I am losing and that's what matters most! Now that my knee is better I can get back to my 5K training and that will really get the pounds to fall off now that I'm on my way again.

I'm 5'8" and determined to make a change now.

Definitely what I'm hoping for. I was always an active kid and loved playing sports. When I started high school, I ran on the long distance track team and loved it. In college, I tried co-ed sports but found I was too shy and intimidated to stick with it. My husband has never been much for exercise so I adopted some of his sedentary hobbies and allowed my exercise routine to become non-existent. I have also been in desk jobs for the last several years and got into a soda habit. Now that I'm in my early 30s, I'm thinking about starting a family and giving myself a healthy body to tackle this new phase of life. I also have a fraternal twin sister who hasn't let herself go (even after having a baby!) so, if she can do it, I can too. I need to prove to myself that I'm capable of pulling myself back to where I should be and this isn't an insurmountable task.

hi there,

i'm in this as well. today is june 11th and i'd love to be 20 pounds lighter in 10 weeks. i need support, structure, and accountability. how do we do this?

also, do i just follow the sp diet or is there something else i need to do?

i've been trying to lose over 10 pounds since october and have failed pretty miserably-- to the point that i've actually gained a few pounds during the past few weeks, so i really need some support and accountability to get this weight loss going.

Today I am starting the challenge. This was my first year teaching, which made it hard for me to fit in an exercise schedule and I would stress eat in the evenings. I am hoping my summer schedule will help me reach my goals. The only challenge I see is sticking to healthy choices an staying in calorie range during summer celebrations and parties.

I think it's best for me to join the "10 lbs in 10 wks" challenge. I knew that trying to lose 2 lbs/wk would be extremely difficult for me being that I'm only very slightly overweight and the weight I want to lose is not going to fall off of me like it would if I was heavier. Three weeks in and having lost 3 lbs with about 7 wks to go means that it's impossible for me to lose 17 more lbs HEALTHFULLY in the next 7 wks.

I'm changing my weigh-in's from Tuesdays to Mondays as Mondays are easier for me to catch an accurate morning weigh-in. I'm disappointed that I lost nothing this past week. I had 6 workouts (3 heavy strength & 3 Tabata session), but had to cancel 2 swims and an iceskating session due to fatigue and an injury.

I'm more disappointed that after 3-4 wks of drastic reduction in consuming 2 of my favorite healthy foods that are definitely not friends of mine (I binge on them), I have had several servings of each this past week even though I tried to eat smaller servings. I also took in more servings of gluten-containing grains than I have in the past few weeks. I'm experimenting with my gluten intake to determine if I have any sensitivity to gluten (even if it's mild).

I also wonder if I ate too few calories this past week, to be honest, and if this is also partly to blame for the scale not moving. Whenever I'd eat dark chocolate (1 of the 2 faves), I'd exclude a portion of my next meal out of fear of taking in too many calories. Honestly, some of my meals were very low in calories (200-300), which only quelches my hunger for about 1.5-2 hrs for me.

Either way, I'm reconfirming that my 2 food enemies really have no place in my lifestyle as it's so easy for me to relapse on these and maintain the craving for them. They are also a huge factor in my weight gain and became a habit. I'm probably not going to lose 20 lbs in 10 wks, but I'm absolutely not giving up losing the extra weight. Here's to next week!

Not the direction I was trying to go in this week. Food is definitely my enemy right now. Going to spend this week trying to watch what I eat and make sure my caloric intake balances with my caloric expenditure. Also have to focus on get more uninterrupted sleep. Stress levels are high and not sleeping well, I know it has to affect my weight. Still determined!

Weighed in this morning at 159.5. I lost 2 in the past week! I wasn't expecting to lose anything this past week because I had 2 fewer workouts than the previous week and I believed I overate on 2 days. Can't wait till next week's weigh-in.

Right on track, I am feeling great about this! I made up for last week. I still had a couple of small cheat meals during the week, so I felt satisfied. My DH and I went out to dinner and we split a meal. I didn't get in as much exercise as I would have liked, this week.
