I think this is important for me. Since I have started this SP journey over 5 weeks ago I have only lost one pound, even though most days I am staying in my calorie range and exercising my butt off. But for me, it is better to try and keep trying than to accept defeat.

Thank you so much for this challenge. It has been very fun and made me step things up a notch!!!

"When one door closes, another opens" - Helen Keller. I am applying this to fitness today, because I work exhausting hours on the weekends and then am usually a couch potato. But someone put a post on another team board about just dancing to a couple of songs around your house. So I am going to try dancing and maybe a little gardening on weekends for a little exercise instead of none.

“Many of the great achievements of the world were accomplished by tired and discouraged men who kept on working.”

I like this quote because it really emphasizes that things are not always going to be fun, easy, or what we want - and it's going to be work sometimes, yet the outcome can far outweigh the pain we go through to get there.

"Do what you love, and love what you do."

I have a number of physical activities that I love doing, which makes it SO much easier to get in my fitness for the week! Between riding my horse, riding my boss' horses (all hunter/jumpers, so it's WORK), and getting out on the twisties on my motorcycle, I have the opportunities to really get out and be active without having to force it upon myself. Today, not only did I ride 3 horses, but then went on a 2+ hour moto ride through the mountains. I'm pooped, but had a great day, too :D

I'm not good with quotes so normally I have just been putting the thoughts that have been motivating me which should fit in there, right? Today was a hard day. It was extremely busy and stressful. During part of the day we went to a catered BBQ with lots of incredible food. I did what I had been taught in a book and let myself look over the table before filling my plate and then went back and put food on. I feel like I did pretty good considering my options. My thought the whole time was, "Don't blow it on one meal!" Although I did have a bite or two of cheesecake I was still just barely over my calorie range.

"Just because you've jumped off the band wagon, doesn't mean that you can't hop back on!"--ME:) So about a year ago I had this realization. I use to blow it and then really let it go to pot the rest of the day and start fresh the next day. One day I blew it, but did well the rest of the day and was amazed that I was still within calorie range because I didn't cave the rest of the day. Today I kept that in my thoughts after, in a stressful moment, I ate more than my allotment of the muffins and smoothie I had made and GUESS WHAT? I was almost spot on the lower spectrum of my calorie range!

This really played into my thinking on Thursday - I knew it was my hubby's birthday, and I wanted to take him out to dinner to the restaurant of his choice. He chose a local burger joint (which has great - cheap - but huge burgers), so although I went over my calorie goals for the day, it was by about 300 calories. So for me, I didn't feel like I completely blew it - I knew it was coming, so I ate accordingly earlier in the day, saving a lot of my caloric intake for that night. It helped keep my miss to a minimum, and I still feel successful!

Good Morning and TGIF! I have news to report. Next weeks Weekly Challenge will be posted by one of our team members, Bostowyo. I will be traveling for work so she agreed to give creating her own challenge a shot to help. So look for it Sunday night or Monday morning.

Yesterday was a much better day. Well except those fruits and veggies - would probably help if I went shopping, but no time.

Thursday's Totals:
Track food - 10
Calorie Range - 10
Water 8+ - 10
Fruits/Veggies - 1

Sleep 7+ hours - 10

Exercise
Cardio - 80
Strength - 20

Bonus:

Motivating thought of the day - "That which is great is constructed by adding little to a little for as long as it takes" - not sure who said it... I'm trying to focus on the one day at a time thing. I know this is a journey to a better healthier me, not just a skinny one. It's going to take time to get there to do it right and I'm prepared for that. Life is going to happen and with that comes food so I just have to focus on doing the best I can to make the right choices and take it one step at a time - 25

Keep up the great work!

"Don't start!" This is the opposite of just do it and only applies to my bad habits. I often think that I can get away with just a little bit and then I don't stop there. This week I've thought that and haven't even put the first bite in OR put the first bite in only to spit it out. All or nothing baby--that's me!

“The great thing in the world is not so much where we stand, as in what direction we are moving.”

I like this quote because it reminds me of why I am where I am. It reminds me to set my goals, focus on them, and to keep moving towards them despite setbacks. My mother tends to live her life just the opposite now that she's finally divorced, and it causes her so many problems. She feels so defeated all the time, and I know it's a matter of outlook. She doesn't know what she wants (changes her mind every few days it seems) and then gets disappointed when things don't work out the way she wanted - but she never has the willpower to stick with it, either. Lots of things could be different for her, yet she is so focused on where she is she forgets to focus on where she wants to be (or sees it as impossible because of where she is now).

That defeatist attitude is one thing I do NOT want to succumb to - ever! I see the results of it, and no matter what, I really want to guard against it. Growing up around it I know I may tend towards it, but since I try to practice the idea behind this quote, it makes my life far more enjoyable :)

First off Goddess - I wish there was something to say that would make what happened make sense but there is nothing. All I can say is your community is my prayers.

My Wednesday was not as good as I had hoped. That time of the month was around the corner and I was feeling yucky - still feel yucky today, but being a woman and having to deal with this I allow myself that cheat day. It may not be the best answer but I find if I'm motivated (which I feel right now) I jump right back on program the next day and it's all better and just a memory. So I tracked but out of range, I had plans to go home and strength train taking a night off from the gym, but ended up going to my aunts to help my cousin with something, meeting my mom at Target and then getting a bite to eat with her since my future hubby was working his second job last night and my dad was traveling (last minute girls night). OH WELL! it happens....

So here are my totals.

Tuesday's Totals:
Track food - 10
Calorie Range - 0

Motivating thought of the day - I got an e-mail today from a good friend who is getting married in June and I am one of her bridesmaids. Our dresses are in and we are planning a time for a fitting and alterations. WOW I am no where near where I would have liked to be a few months ago and the realization that her wedding is in like 6 weeks, mine is in less than 6 months. It's time to focus. I know I feel motivated and have done great the last few weeks, but I need to keep going. I know this weekly challenges will help keep me there. - 25

Keep up the great work!

"Why start tomorrow when you can start today?"--My husband. Need I explain that one? When I was first realizing that I needed to lose weight, I would decide I was going to go on a "diet" or a "healthy lifestyle change", but just before I would go on it, I would eat something really unhealthy and my husband would question me about it. I would always answer back that I was starting my diet tomorrow or next week or on Jan. 1st. He would always turn the procrastinators quote around and I realized, why not? Why must we prepare for something that is good for us? Why can't we start now? The moment we think about it.

"The test of the morality of a society is what it does for its children."
Dietrich Bonhoeffer
Saturday just gone, a grade 8 boy at the school my children attend, where I work as well, he committed suicide. It is tearing our community apart. It breaks my heart that he felt there was no hope, and nowhere to turn for help. I didn't, and neither did my children, know this boy personally, but I have friends with children who knew him in their lives, and they are doing everything they can to help them cope. They say it takes a village to raise a child, and I truly believe that one person can be the difference in the life of a child as well. Take some time tomorrow to really look around you and send a smile the way of a child you know. Make them feel special in even a small way. You never know whose life you might save. Think about how what you are learning here at Spark can help one person tomorrow, and everyday. Thanks for "listening", and make this terrible loss into a positive impact in your little part of the world.

This just reminds me of why I came here in the first place - I knew I couldn't do this alone, or at the very least, it would be a LOT harder. The group mentality and knowing you are not alone is so very helpful!

Tuesday's Thought: "Our bodies are a temple", from the Bible. I remind myself of this when I want to be a couch potato, starting at the TV (or computer screen on SP, of course) instead of getting up and moving. God gave us these bodies to take care of, not abuse.

Good Morning Team! Great to see you all so energized with the challenges and keep the quotes coming. I do like the people that quote something and then personalize it. Let's take some time to really earn those 25 points a day. I want to hear more than just so quote you found, but why that quote has meaning to you and how it helps. As the week goes on and we all get close to the weekend I know how much harder staying "on track" is to me so the added wisdom from all of you will really help me pull through and stay motivated.

Tuesday's Totals:

Motivating thought of the day - My motivating thought yesterday was that I had a "turn around Tuesday." It worked, I focused on what was important to me and ate right, went to the gym, and took care of me. Today I'm going to take it one day at a time. and not worry about what happened yesterday. One of my favorite quotes is "Don't let yesterday use up to much of today. " - Will Rogers. I hate to say it, but sometimes I spend so much time beating myself up about what I did, I don't focus on the road ahead. Weight loss is a long journey and for most of us the extra lbs didn't happen over night so what makes us think that we'll lose it tomorrow. We need to stay focused and motivated. And just take it one day at a time - sometimes one meal at a time. - 25

Keep up the great work!

“It’s hard to beat a person that never gives up.” This is two fold for me. My husband never gives up, on anything. Once he sets his mind to do something, he gets it done. For me, I have been working on losing weight for over 3 years now, starting having success 1 year in, and this far down the road, even though I haven't reached goal (I am only halfway there), I haven't given up! And, I never will!

I'm new to the challenges as well, but I think it will be useful!

Monday:

Track food - 10
Calorie Range - 20 (although it was the first time since I started on the 7th - but I did it!)
Water 8+ - 10
Fruits/Veggies - 3
Sleep 7+ hours - 10 (I'll always get this one - if I don't sleep, I become unbearable, so it is a necessary "evil" in my life - even during finals week!)

Exercise"
Cardio - 0
Strength - 0

Bonus:

Motivating thought of the day - 25

I'll go with my sig for starters: "Try not, do or do not. There is no try." It's helped me a lot in life when I am struggling and just want to give up to remind myself that either I do it, or I don't. There isn't an in-between.

Four wheels move the body, Two wheels move the soul.

Try not, do or do not. There is no try.

Never argue with an idiot - they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Yesterday, my motivational thought was, "I can do this and it is worth it!" Every time I went to eat something I reminded myself of that and I actually made it through the day without chowing down on the graham crackers or the angel food cake sitting all pretty on the counter. When I was hungry I decided that it wasn't really hunger pains, but thirst and if it was close to a meal I made myself stop what I was doing and make my meal. I made it--YEAY!!

Hi there I'm new to these challenges but I thought I'd give it a try. I'm terrible at tracking, I can in am but then tend not to have the time to log back on during the rest of the day! lol.

The greatest challenge in weight loss is mind over mind! we all have to fight that fat lazy person inside us who screams I don't feel like it, I don't have the time, but darn it I want that cake!!!
remember this: for everyday we ignore the fat voice it gets weaker. but give in just 1 day and she/he screams twice as loud the next time you get back on track.
Let's silence that voice for life!

Hey ladies! Sorry I was MIA last week. I had a rough week program wise. I blame it on work (we had customer meetings all week with lunch being brought in), my birthday week which always turns into splurging, and the list just goes on and on. Then I was sick yesterday and just forgot to get up and post a challenge... BUT with that said I'm sending a shout out to anyone that wants to make up a challenge. Let me know, we can start a rotation to give anyone willing an opportunity to be involved.

So this weeks challenge. I am all about "Motivation Monday" - ok I know today is not Monday, but let's go with it. On top of the usual tracking items you are going to post one motivating thought a day, for each thought you get 25 pts that day.

Track food - 10 pts per day
Calorie Range - 20 pts per day
Water 8+ - 10 pts per day
Fruits/Veggies - 1 for each serving (5 pts max for day)

Sleep 7+ hours - 10 pts per day

Exercise"
Cardio - 1 pt per min
Strength - 2 pts per min

Bonus:

Motivating thought of the day - 25 pts per day
