I recently had a raw vegan BLT on dehydrated (seed?) bread and it was amazing. Would that work, or too cumbersome? It had dehydrated, smokey tofu (but if you don't mind partly cooked, I've used prepared smoked tempeh bacon from Whole Foods on sprouted bread), lettuce, mixed greens, tomato, avocado slices, and vegan mayo. SO good! Also, those Justin's nut butter packets are good for protein and calories in a hurry, but the fat content might be more than you want. They come in many flavors and you can buy them online at www.justins.com. My vegetarian D1 volleyball athlete daughter relies on them for a protein boost on the go, but I'm really not sure if they are raw. If not, I suppose you could make your own. My triathlete husband loves to eat the Kind brand nut bars on 50 mile bike rides. The ones with chocolate melt, though, so he avoids those. Are those raw? Raw trail mix is always an option, too, but perhaps that's more fruit than you want. This is a challenge!

I am quite active. I eat mostly fresh vegetables, much raw. I do well on a higher calorie allotment than what I used to do. I feel like I am always eating. I add in stuff like seeds, nuts, hemp seeds and powders, some tempeh and tofu....I make these protein bars and kinda rely on them. They are not cooked. The protein bars have 12 gr carb, 13 gr protein, 120 calories. It's a basic recipe meant to be played around with. I bet with some tinkering you could make them better fit your wishes. I have added chocolate chips, kale pulp, applesauce, more and various nuts... recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-detai

When I was chronically underweight and needed to up my calories tout de suite, I ate lots of nuts and nut butters. They added fat to my diet but I have no problem with that. Now I use coconut oil, walnut oil, avocados, nuts....These fats make for filling food. Without them I'd be miserable. Why do you want calories but not fat?

I wanted to add also when I was raw vegan or high raw vegan my lifestyle was also very different. I was more sedentary than active due to a medical condition. Now my job is very active, I bike, run, sail, swim, and lift weights on a daily basis. I am requiring far more calories at this activity level and am having a hard time finding a way to do this in smallish sized mostly raw meals. My friend eats way more than I do and he's difficult to feed raw. He likes it, but is always powerfully hungry. Maybe it's just not possible.

I use a regular blender for my smoothies. I have a cheapo brand and it works just fine.

None of that answers my question.

Plus I was vegan for years, high raw vegan for years, and 100% raw vegan for a year, tracking all the while. So what you call myth I call direct documented evidence. And I still have all of it.

If you have smoothies all the time I would expect it would be very easy for you to write down what your filling smoothie recipe is.

The secret to adequate calories lies in what you eat as much as in the amount . I did say that having an ordinary meal in the evening in the normal thing to do and this should contain a broad spectrum of foods that are freshly cooked ,containing protein and some carbohydrates . It is a myth to think we need loads of protein . We only need 2000 calories a day to maintain weight for females and 2500 for males , if you NEED more for some reason then bulk up you intake by all means . It depends a lot on whether you are vegetarian or vegan what you actually include in your evening meal.

I do have a high power blender now as this really does blend everything to a very smooth drink but I had a Magic Bullet before that and still made good smoothies. A Nutribullet is also very good but if you have an ordinary blender please don't let that stop you making smoothies as you get such good , delicious nutrition that is easy to make and take ! I love my daily smoothie and certainly get at least my five a day fruit and veg without hassle .

And even if I do get the mystery to a filling smoothie figured out, I would still like to have something besides smoothies day and night. Anything, no matter how tasty, gets very boring when eaten over and over and over again.

And I'm not worried about the calories ... Eating healthfully particularly raw, it's actually hard for me to get enough to eat at my metabolism and exercise level. So "not adding much calories" is actually rather the opposite of what I actually need.

(There was one point in my life I found I could only get about 2300 calories in my body in a healthful way. I could not eat more than that. So one additional meal a day I did about 1,000 calories fast food just to keep from losing too much weight!! Fortunately I'm not doing that much physical labor. But I have to adhere to someone else's schedule so it makes it tricky for me to get enough food in the time allotted.)

I always add nuts, seeds, and or healthy oils and protein powder and whole grains to my smoothies. I can only drink about 300 calories in one go and that is barely a snack, not a meal, and not filling, and I'm not in a position where I can sip smoothies all day long.

What are your exact ingredients in what quantities? Because clearly I'm not getting something right.

I do about 1 cup veg, 1 cup leafy green, 1 cup almond milk, 1 tbsb chia seed, 1 tbsp raw coconut butter or nuts or seeds, something like 1/4 apple, 1-2 servings protein powder, juice from 1 lemon, 1/4 cup raw sprouted grains. Sometimes I will also throw in things like goji berries! Herbs, or other flavorings.

But that's about all I can manage in one go, one meal, and it's not enough for me to feel full.

And I do like the raw thing, I love my salads. But on my job and certainly my friends job, we just don't have the time it takes to sit and chew a big salad. I'm trying to get similar nutrition in a smaller volume that we can eat more quickly.

By addiing rolled oats , chia seeds , pumpkin seeds etc , especially chia seeds and maybe a spoonful of hemp protein powder should make a smoothiei filling enough for everyone. I practically exist on smoothies and am very healthy. This doesnot add over much in the way of calories either. You can use practically any green veg even cucumber and courgette . If you can't eat all at once no problem just sip throughout the day and have a meal at night that suites you. I can't stomach salad so I either make a green smoothie with salad veg adding some fruit to suite my taste or add some wheatgrass juice or powder to add some nutrients as the taste is not noticable when I use some lemon and apple too. The fat content in avocados is good fat and so does not have cholesterol also the addition of avocado and or banana helps the calorie count. I swear by smoothies as at my age ,76 , I need good nutrition to hep keep me healthy . There is so much good nutrition( and enzymes intact that is lost by cooking ) in smoothies that I try and encourage everyone to give them a try .

How do you make green smoothies filling? I've tried them on numerous occasions and can only consume maybe 8-10 oz in a sitting, maybe only 300 calories. I'm always hungry after having a smoothie. And sipping on smoothie all day long is not workable.

I can make the meals like that cooked vegan, or omni ... Just trying to get more raw it seems the calorie content drops significantly. Maybe it's just not possible for me to eat much raw.

My answer is green smoothies . To a good amount of greens add a banana or half an avocado and add some seeds such as chia, flax ,hemp ,sunflower or pumpkin seeds . This is easy ,well assimilated and quick , can be put in a flask for on the go consumption too, an all round winner. I also ring the changes by adding oats and plant milk such as hemp milk , almond milk ,rice milk or oat milk. This way you can get all your body needs . There is a plethora of smoothie recipes to be found online .

Yikes! That's a lot of restrictions. I wish I could help, but I don't have a clue. I wish you both luck and hope that you're able to find some decent recipes.

A friend and I are trying to get back into a high raw vegan way of eating. My friend is vegan, I am flex but cannot do soy or dairy, we both would like to incorporate as much raw as we can into our eating.

One of my challenges is that my friend needs a lot of calories in a compact space. Think 600-700 calories about sandwich sized volume. Eating something like a salad just takes far too much time for his seasonal hectic schedule, and it's challenging to healthfully get that many calories in a salad anyway.

We are also trying to stay around 30-40% fat, at least 60 g protein, - a lot of the raw food recipes I find are 70-80% fat. And high on grains and veg, low on fruit.

I know that's asking a lot but we could use some help.
