I don't juice simply because my system is healthy enough to properly digest and absorb nutrients. However, it is a good way for people to reset their system if they've been living particularly unhealthy for a long period of time (read: not eating any vegetables). It is also good for those with certain stomach problems to get those extra nutrients.

Personally, I find eating my calories more satisfying than drinking them.

I juice after the gym and usually get my produce from the Farmers Market on Saturday mornings. I love using apples but I want to change it up a little. Any ideas?

I habitually make soup stock from almost all my vegetable scraps. I don't use any cruciferous vegetable bits. I do use pear and apple cores. I have been recommended to not use citrus in my stock. I would love to hear from a rule-breaker if citrus added or subtracted from the stock which was made.

I usually eat whole fruits and vegetables but use my juicer occasionally because I love the taste of fresh juice. My favorite is carrot-apple-orange with a little lemon. I usually throw away the pulp but should probably save it, to use for soups.

When I juice, I compost my pulp! It makes amazing food for my garden :)

Soup is a good choice for veggie pulp or add it to mashed lentils and bake to make a lentil loaf.

I haven't juiced in awhile, but may do it again for December to lower the blood pressure and to prep for the New Year's get fit hype :o)

I used to feel bad about the pulp, but then I looked at it like the seed of a lemon. I feel slightly bad for not planting it, but toss it out anyhow. I'd love to make veggie stock out of the fiber, but I always end up adding fruit so that kind of ruins that I think...

Just wondering, you who juice, how do you use all the pulp/fiber that is also made by juicing? Do you cook or bake with it? What do you make? Do you use the vegetable pulp when making soup stock? Does it make you sad if you just throw it away? Other emotions? Hmm....

I generally don't juice - I'd rather use the calories on a whole fruit (even though I love love love juice) or other whole foods (the fiber is good for you too). I did make an exception this weekend when I pureed some watermelon for watermelon juice, but that doesn't really count since I didn't actually 'juice' it - I just blended the flesh til it was liquid :)

I made the same mistake initially! Now my juices are heavy on greens, cuke, bok choy, and stalks, but I add ginger, organic green apple, and cilantro to make the flavor and aroma pop. I put a half a lemon in also because rumor is the vitamin c makes all the other juicy vitamins and minerals more bio-available. Not sure how accurate that is, but I love lemon anyway! I am down to about 20-32 oz. of juice/day for 3 reasons: it is work intensive to clean and juice, it's seductively yummy so I like to enforce portion control, and it gives me SUPER energy which I don't necessarily need after 3pm. I got Joe's recipe book, which is very glossy and inspiring, but I just end up juicing what's on hand. It almost always tastes great. It's nice to have a treat that is so good for you and (being mindful not to add too many calorie dense fruits) is also filling and low calorie!

There is no try. There is only do.

I recently watched Fat Sick and Nearly dead and became a little obsessed with juicing. I found that I actually consumed more calories because I thought I could literally drink as much as I wanted, but once I cut down on portions I really found it very satisfying. Thoughts? Favorite juice recipes?
