Take nutritional yeast one step closer to parmesan. 1 cup nut. yeast, 1/2 cup walnut halves, 1/4 cup sundried tomatoes (dry, not packed in oil) Put all ingredients in food processor, blend until you have "grated" consistency

I use nutritional yeast when I make tofu "bacon"
I make dried nori - chips with brown rice syrup and sesame seeds, but never thought of using the n.y. here.

"Nooch" is awesome. I make my pesto with it, in place of the cheese. I also sprinkle it on popcorn (mixed with a garlic powder, yum), pasta dishes and tofu scramble. The stuff is great. There are lots of cheesy-type sauce recipes you can make with it as well. I also put it in my zucchini cakes recipe (mock crab cakes) and in my eggplant balls recipe. I use it whenever a recipe calls for grated parmesan. It has a nice tangy flavor.

Whole foods has it in the bulk section. They also have it in containers where the vitamins are.
I use it all the time, in salad dressings, mac n' cheez, sundried tomato cream sauce over pasta, sprinkled on salads in soups, etc....

I made a sandwich spread with nutritional yeast, avocado and a bit of miso paste. It was delicious! Make sure to start small with the miso, though, since it can be easily overpowering. I used a dab and it was just the right amount to give it a little salty kick/something extra.

You can find the green curry paste in most super markets in the asian aisle. It comes in small glass jars. Trader Joes has it as well. It packs a punch so try a little bit at first and add as your tastes allow!

Glad you liked the Thai Peanut Sauce- I like the twist of Red Curry!

Another sauce I use on veggies and tofu is

Green Curry 1-2 teas or to,taste
1/2-1 tbl agave or to taste (you could use honey or brown sugar)
About 1 teas hot water to taste (this just helps it to mix and not be too strong)
I really don't measure on this one- can you tell?!- just taste and add until I get the flavor, heat and consistency I like.

Dry stir fry your tofu and veggies- I like eggplant in this- then place over brown rice. Pour sauce over and enjoy!

OMG, COOPERD1-! I had to try your Thai Peanut sauce for dinner. I made soba noodles & steamed broccoli, topped with your sauce (except I didn't have your chili sauce, so I used Thai Red Curry). AWESOME! Thank you! I've been avoiding my calorie-laden, store-bought Thai Peanut Sauce and you gave me a fantastic alternative. :D

Yum and yum! The Thai Peanut Sauce made with powdered peanut butter sounds awesome, COOPERD1-! I will try that!

Nutritional yeast is a personal fave of mine. In addition to all the other ideas, I love-love-love "Noritos," which are "chips" made from Nori (seaweed) coated with a "cheesy" sauce made from nutritional yeast. You need a dehydrator to make these... they are awesome!

It's good in tofu scrambles. the Happy Herbivore cookbooks have some excellent uses of nooch. There's a no chicken broth powder and a beefless broth that use it, and those come in handy in a lot of recipes in the cookbook and elsewhere. Also the cookbook has two different kinds of cheese sauces made with it, and numerous other delicious no fat and low fat recipes. There might be a here is the website (which has a lot of recipes in it but to be honest I haven't looked to carefully at it yet) happyherbivore.com/recipes/#recipe-b

To get back to powdered peanut butter for a moment...

Yummy recipe I made up-

Thai Peanut Butter dressing
1 tbl powdered PB
1 tbl sweet chili sauce.
1-2 tbl apple cider vinegar, to taste
1 tbl low sodium tamari sauce
Whisk well and pour over your favorite salad or tofu.

Delicious on a salad with sautéed tofu (i do it in a dry pan- let the tofu drain for a few minutes prior), greens, lots of mint, shaved carrots, cucumbers, and brown rice. You could add cilantro, chopped peanuts, bean sprouts or anything else you like.

Cheesy Chickpeas from Vegan Kids:

15 oz chickpeas
2 tsp oil
1 1/2 tsp nutritional yeast
1/2 tsp of salt (if using dried/cooked beans)
1 tsp garlic powder

spread a baking sheet w/ parchment paper, place chickpeas on parchment and sprinkle with ingredients, toss to coat.

Bake at 400 degrees for 30 minutes.

You can add this to any dish, eat "plain" or use it to make chickpea salad.

The kale chips are pretty good. Made a batch and I'm going to bring it to work tomorrow for a snack. Will definitely do it again.

I love oatmeal - will definitely have to try it with "nooch".

I was able to purchase some at our local food co-op called "Three Rivers Market". I've never looked for it elsewhere - so I don't know where you might be able to get it.

I often have oatmeal on workday mornings, and couldn't do it without the "nooch." I don't like sweet stuff in the morning so my oatmeal would be very bland without it. Nooch makes plain oatmeal wonderful!

We like it on broccoli, potatoes, in creamed soups made with almond milk, and on rice, really anywhere you would have used cheddar cheese for flavor.

It does look like fish food but it really tastes cheesy with hardly any calories and no fat.

I keep a jar of it mixed with almond meal for my husband to sprinkle on his salad. I also have a jar of homemade multi grain breadcrumbs for sprinkling on salad or soup. My husband puts nutritional yeast in the crumbs too.

I so have to try the kale chips made with nutritional yeast, what a great idea!! I must confess that I cannot stand nutritional yeast. I used to eat fish food, the flaky kind, when I was 3 and this stuff reminds me of that. While I loved it when I was little, I cannot get over that it looks, smells and tastes the same as that fish food so I can't do it. Maybe I could do it on kale chips. I'll give it another try. B-12 shots are expensive when you get them on a regular basis!

Thanks for sharing your great idea!

Make KALE CHIPS with it! YUM!
RInse kale, pat dry with paper towels. Put into big ziploc bag and put a put a couple tablespoons of nutritional yeast in the bag and shake. Then spread your kale onto cookie sheets lined with parchment paper. Sprinkle with more nutritional yeast and a little garlic salt. Bake in oven at 225 - 250 degress for about 20 minutes (or more) - checking often to see when crisp. Fine line between done just right and too crisp.Store in baggies or airtight containers. Addicting. Great way to eat kale!

You can use it on popcorn like you would powdered cheese -- yum! It can also make a great "cheesy" pasta sauce sort of similar to alfredo (http://www.theppk.com/2012/10/roasted-but
ternut-alfredo/ and http://pinchofyum.com/creamy-cauliflower-s
auce -- the latter doesn't include nutritional yeast, but I've added it and it's great!).

Enjoy playing around!

sprinkle on salads, soups, hummus, pasta, everything.

Add in to sauces, lasagna, everything.

Put on a spoon and eat.

Yes, I actually do eat nutritional yeast that way, I am obsessed with it, only my love for peanut butter (you're talking life long obsession with peanut butter) comes near (albeit passes) my love for Nutritional yeast.

In short, it goes on and in just about anything. I highly recommend some hummus, olive oil, and nutritional yeast. Dip with veggies or pita. (You're welcome)

Enjoy!
