Thanks for the link! I've been vegan for five years and before that a vegetarian for 25. After being a vegetarian for a year I had a "Big Mac Attack". Like you, I was ill after finishing the hamburger. Don't know if it was psychological. Now, I can't even stand the smell of cooking meat especially the smell coming from my next door neighbour's BBQ.

So, our gut/stomach produces different enzymes based on our diet. If you aren't eating meat you lose the enzymes that digest meat efficiently. Stopping fish in early May is to short a time to effect a major change like that so doubtful it is a contributing factor to how you felt.
Could be mind over matter- you had it on your mind, so when you felt sick it was the first thing you thought of- or you could have just had a bad piece of fish.
Either way- if you are trying to stop eating fish- now you have a negative association which will make it easier!

Don't give up on beans! Beans are like tofu- if you cook it right, in the right dishes, with the right spices you can do anything with it.
I will have to dig up some good recipes for you.

I have been a vegetarian for over 20 years and recently I have been eating less dairy and I have notice that when I eat some cheese my stomach hurts.

long time ago after being a vegetarian for a while I ate a piece of chicken and boy was it sooo gross, it tasted like my shoe and dirt and eating it off the bone really grossed me out and I couldn't eat it and I have never had any meat since that time

It probably was my mind but I don't think I want to try it again. I just need to adjust to some things and try others. Beans to me are bland unless in chili....and I can't eat a lot of sugar as it looks like some do because I have diabetes. Fruit I can eat but have to watch the portions.
So it will take me time to figure it out but I am sure I can do this. I did it for a year now and once before. I just need to look at recipes without too many ingredients and I don't like tofu , at all.

I've been a vegetarian for about 23 years. We ordered a veggie pizza recently. I discovered a piece of sausage because of it's tell-tale texture, and wanted to throw up!!! Instead I calmly spat it out and fished out the other small piece I found and threw it in the garbage. We continued on with our meal. However, I know that I can't stomach meat anymore. I think I did a pretty good job of not going ballistic!!!!!

Proud to say I haven't eaten any meat/fish since Sept. 2010! However, I thought I may have read/heard somewhere that your body has difficulty metabolizing animal proteins after abstaining from them for such a long period of time (reduced enzymes?) bur don't quote me on that! May 1st does not seem long enough for such a physiological change to occur anyway! Most likely: the fish wad either not fresh.. or it was a physiological response to a guilty conscience?

There could be many reasons!

I had a dairy product 2 weeks ago and it made me horribly gassy (sorry - TMI) and decided my body was just not use to it anymore; won't do that again. Hope you're feeling better.

had a fish craving even though have not eaten meat in over a year, I still had and occasional fish. Gave up fish too the 1rst of May and was doing good until today and had such a craving that I ate some Tilapia from the freezer. I got sick and really tired. I think that from now on...NO meat of any kind. Has anyone else done this and gotten sick?
