Maybe because the oil is that much more concentrated than the ground flax? I'm with some of the others and only use the ground (keep it in the fridge). Hope you feel better soon; I'm just getting over a cold as well so I know how you're feeling.

I am making it a habit of drinking the light almond milk, ground flax or chia seeds and cinnamon every morning.

I've had a horrible viral head cold the past 3-4 days and haven't taken any supplements (couldn't stomach them). I'll start taking them again today and pay more attention to the odor, the occurrence, etc and pinpoint what it is. Thanks everyone for the great feedback!

Hi Pat,

Yes. While I was using flax oil as a supplement, a cold pressed organic one, with expiration date (I kept it in the fridge) my urine had a strong odour.

I use ground flax seed meal by Bob's Red Mill. It has a slight nutty taste and is wonderful. Do not have any odor to urine.

I put it in my smoothie in the AM or I put it in mashed sweet potato, white potato etc.

I am using regular ground flax on my cereal and on salads. I do not notice any unusual odor or difference. I have never tried a 'supplement' with flax.. wondering if perhaps there is something else in the tablet or capsule that is making the odor. Or perhaps the flax is working as a cleansing agent and pulling toxins from your body. (Kidneys perhaps or liver).. I would check the supplement for other ingredients that might be causing the problem. emoticon
and drink plenty of water............

I use organic ground flax seeds and I don't notice any odor.
I do notice that after breakfast, which is when I use the flax seed on cereal, my first urine is really yellow but I think it's from my multi vitamin and not the flax.

I use chia seeds instead of flax. I kept reading that flax goes rancid quickly once ground and grinding small bits at a time is too much of a pain for me. Chia have the same omega benefits but are easily digested whole. And they have this really cool quality of absorbing liquid and becoming pudding-like. Great in my morning oatmeal.

I also take supplements but haven't noticed side effects. Tho I take them at night so if my morning pee is extra strong I wouldn't necessarily notice and if I did wouldn't attribute it to the flax - too many other factors.

I also use ground flaxseed rather than supplements and have never noticed any strange side effects. Bob's Red Mill has a golden ground flaxseed that's very mild in flavor, and since it's already ground, your body can absorb the omega-3s. I usually sprinkle it on cereal or oatmeal, but you could probably put it in baked goods, too.

Hey I'm not sure if this helps but I actually add coarsely ground flaxseed to various foods in my diet instead of using supplements. ..and even on the days I drink less water I don't seem to have that side effect.

And in the end you'll see.YOU WONT STOP ME!

I'll apologize in advance if this is too personal a question for anyone. Here's the problem: I used to take Fish oil supplements for my Omega 3 but have switched over to Flax. I'm so glad to get away from the repeating taste of fish after taking them but I noticed my urine has a very strong, "funny" smell to it and is very yellow, even when I know I'm drinking enough water.

Has anyone else had this reaction to flax seed omega supplements? The bottle says they expire January 2017 - I was afraid they were becoming rancid. No other side effects other than this strong smell.

Thanks in advance, Pat
