I use Daiya sparingly, but I put it on my homemade pizza. It melts nicely. If it's not completely melted, I put it under the broiler for a sec. I also put a slice on my homemade burgers. I freeze the rest and it seems to hold up quite well.

Here in the UK we can get cheese substitutes from Bute Island , Vbites , Tofuti and Vegusto . All are good and I swap between them all . The slices are particularly good from Tofuti although I must say that Vegusto make a fantastic range.

I love the Daiya slices and wedges better than the shreds, but I do agree with some of the others that they have a different smell to them. Because of the short life span I will use them for a few days and then put the remainder in the freezer before they go out of code and that extends their life awhile longer. On days when I really need a grilled cheese sandwich or something else cheesy, they fit the bill quite nicely and I've found you don't need to use more than a slice or slice and a half; so in that respect they're no more caloric than real cheese. ~Pam

Love the Daiya cheeses. I did not care for the shreds as well as the wedges as they seemed "oily". I have had the shreds, wedges, slices and pizza. Best I can describe the wedges, when they melt, it's the same consistency of velveeta when melting and is totally to die for.

I make a point of using it within the 7 days quite easily. I divide the package into seven servings and have a little each day. Back beans and rice, grilled cheese, quesadillas, salads, and mac & cheese.

Personally, I don't like it. It tastes like processed cheese slices (which makes sense). However, I don't think I liked those things even as a kid.

I keep trying daiya every once in a while when I find it on sale, but so far my determination is that whatever I am making could not only be made without it, but probably would taste better.

Cheese was also the last thing I gave up before going vegan. I waited three years before I tried Daiya, as I suspected it would not compare to the real thing. It does melt quite well, though, and I really like it for things like quesadillas, nachos and my seitan cheesesteaks. It's also awesome in veggie quiche, veggie chile and for a pizza topping. A little goes a long way, though, so I often freeze it. I notice no change in flavor or texture. I recently opened a package that had been the freezer over a month and it was fine. I really like the flavor. It's tangy. I haven't seen the slices, but I have tried the cheddar wedge and it's pretty damn tasty. It's great on crackers.

I liked it, had it a few times.

But like all vegan products that are processed, however minimally, it is pricey. Amy's meals are all very small, but calorie controlled and are all in the $ 5 range.

I do not have the money I once had as I no longer work, so those types of things really rachet up my food bill. Sigh ............

I like the mozzarella a *lot* more than the cheddar, but I mix both of them in 'breakfast burritos' or veg lasagna. Daiya is my go-to veg cheese! The pepperjack ones are awesome too.

Warnings: they do not taste like cow's-milk-cheese, so don't expect that (lol) and start out with a little bit at a time- too much will overpower your dish. I don't eat veg cheese on it's own (like I used to eat cow's-milk-cheese) but with a meal, it's awesome.

Favorite meal to make: Chikn Parm ~ Gardein crispy tenders baked with Daiya mozz, add tomato sauce on top.

Trader Joe's has a Daiya-like mozzarella shreds knock-off now. I like it and it's a bit cheaper.

Daiya Cheese is the best non cheese that is out there. It smells like and taste close to cheese and it melts pretty good but I add it to the recipes last. I also freeze it and I don't notice any change.

Million $ - I don't think it smells bad at all. It's close to the 'real' thing but you can definitely tell it isn't. Buy one pack and try it on different things to see how you feel about it Funny... cheese and eggs were the hardest thing for me to say goodbye to when I decided to follow a vegan lifestyle. Had no problem not buying anymore leather shoes/bags and sold a sheepskin coat as well as a suede coat. The cheeses and eggs were another story all together emoticon

There's a tab on their site to find out where they sell their products. I'll have to look for the pizza! Didn't realize they made a pizza.

I buy Daiya "in bulk" (as in I buy 6 + packages of each at a time) and take it with me to Israel. I freeze them before packing them into my suitcase and they hold very well, even passed their expiration date. The texture does change but the flavor does not, at least not enough for me to notice.

I haven't found the slices or the spreads or the pizzas etc, but now that I'm in the States I am on the hunt for them.

Enjoy!

Hi - yes, I do use it. I've tried the Cheddar and the mozzarella shreds. I like that they aren't soy (I try to balnace the amount of soy I eat). They are okay. I would like them better if they weren't so expensive :-) The down side to them is you need to use them within 7-10 days after opening the package. Since I'm the only vegan in the house that can be a bit tricky. I sent an email to the company asking if they freeze well and here is there response: " Hello Patricia,

Thank you for your interest in Daiya and our deliciously dairy free products!

Freezing the shreds for a time past the best before date may also slightly affect the textural physical properties of the shreds. It is also strongly suggested to add "further processing" when consuming after the best before date. For example: heating the product before consumption as compared to eating it as it is.

If you will be consuming the shreds after the expiry date, even if it is kept frozen in the refrigerator, we would advise you to finish consuming all the shreds within two months after the best before date.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please let us know. Cheers and wishing you a wonderful day! Jenny"

Hope this helps :-) Pat

Hello everyone,

I was just wondering if any of you have tried the dairy-free daiya cheese, and if so, what you thought about it? I'm trying to incorporate vegan dishes into my vegetarian diet and I picked up this daiya cheddar cheese to try.
