I "bookmarked" the site I posted a few posts below and have it in my "morning boot" folder, When it opened yesterday and it had a new recall listed (#2 for the month). I took comfort knowing about it so quickly. It's for Athena variety cantaloupes and I live in one of the affected states. I checked the two cantaloupes in my fridge but they are from a different source. I'd rather have the information and not need it than find out too late.
I try to buy all my fruits and Veggies from the farmers market also. Several of the vendors produce the product themselves and I go to them first. However, the largest booth gets it's supply from the same distributor as the other non farmers market merchants. My son, who used to purchase food for a large resort, said the difference is that the farmer's markets, and the road side vendor types get the "A" quality, restaurants (if I remember correctly) got the "B" quality and the "C" stuff is what is offered in the grocery stores. It makes sense to me except it looks like WalMart must get the stuff that doesn't make the "C" grade.
The link to the recall press release is below should anybody in FL, GA, IL, MD, NC, NJ, NY, PA, SC and VA wants to check their cantaloupes.

Sometimes, I think about the why in all this recall stuff. Isn't it amazing people won't chop their own onion? wow. I would never think to buy pre-chopped onion (or any other vegie, BTW).

I tend to ignore the outbreaks and recalls, because I always buy whole food and chop it myself. I suppose really, I ought to pay attention as it could potentially be something other than the pre-processing.

Yet another reason to buy my produce from local farmers at the farmer's market. Thank you for sharing. The more handling involved in packaging a product, the more risk that there is to eating it.

This is timely. Kim Komando's site of the day is one that keep track of the FDA recalls as they happen. July had more than 40 recalls and Whole Foods has had the most. (I guess that would go hand in hand with fresh foods). This is the link to the Kim Komando Site of the Day page. www.komando.com/coolsites/index.aspx?id=13

Yvonne, thank you for posting this. It is not a product I use but so many working people buy pre-prepped foods to make meal time easier.
