To VelvetLizard---You must have been in the wrong vegan group, Velvet, cause "Vegan Fitness and Nutrition" is very much alive and kicking! New topics are being posted all the time. But there are other vegan groups that are pretty much dead, so you may be thinking of them.

To Coach Nicole--Hi! Yes, to have so many members here I was suspecting this group must have been the first group here, so that does mean something. And your opinion seems to be the one that most of the group has, so I will bow to that opinion. Majority rules, as they say! emoticon

Congrates Nicole on your success at Spark People! You continue to be one of our heros!

Interesting suggestion! You know, it was the first and only veg-related team on the site many years ago, hence the name and inclusion. I personally like the team being open to everyone interested in a veg lifestyle, but will def keep this in mind!

Thanks for the replys Sincity and DesertJulz (and everyone else, too). I see your points. I guess I was just thinking of simplicity for new people who join up to Spark People...but maybe this group really is a place to "search and discover" where one belongs on the scale of things. Thanks for listening and sharing, everyone!

As I am a vegetarian with strong leanings toward both vegan and raw, I really appreciate this group being all-encompassing. It inspires me to make dairy-free meals to read some of the posts from those who are either vegan, or moving toward vegan.

Seems to me that there's a place for both this all-encompassing group and one that focuses on strictly vegan. :D

Thank you very much for the suggestion, even though I am one of the current leaders I did not create the team. I do know that there really are many different lifestyles that fit in between being vegetarian and vegan which I'm sure you are aware of. Being a new vegetarian myself I actually find myself leaning toward more vegan meals and ideals but I'm not ready to make the jump altogether. I have learned so much from our vegan members even though I'm not. I believe this group was created for people who not only just want to learn more about becoming meat free but are also in the diet categories that lie in between vegetarian and vegan as well.

And in the end you'll see.YOU WONT STOP ME!

Thank you for recommending the vegan forum. This has been very useful for me, but I also have a bit of a difficult time when many of the resources or ideas make use of foods that I don't eat. It's good to find a vegan only forum as well.

There is only one of you in the world, so take care of yourself in all matters.

"I had wondered where you had gone. I have posted some of my vegan recipe makeovers here on SP. Have you?"

Hi Ruthie! No, I've not been posting any recipes or recipe makeovers. My life's been kinda crazy for a while now, so I've not gotten around to much, recipe-wise.

A good point, Bilby, about this being a safe place for vegetarains to make a transition. Maybe it's best to just leave things alone, then.

I'm not sure who the leaders of the group are anymore. And I don't seem to recieve any posts from this group much anymore...so I was partly assuming it might be dying and maybe a change would be good for it.

Well, guess I'd better stop meddling in another group and mind my own business! Ha!!!! emoticon I need to let the active members be the ones who change things anyway, not ones like me who aren't that active here.

I suppose because vegan recipes and advice are also valid for vegetarians, even though they might other things too, there's still a reasonable harmony. Because this team has a lot of members, and vegan in the name, it comes up high on the search results if you look for a vegan team. I like Vegan Fitness and Nutrition and am a member. I hang around here, despite the leadership being alternate stripes of absent and uninspiring, because a lot of vegetarians ask about making the transition and some probably feel more comfortable doing it from here, 'home' base, rather than on an all vegan team. I remember when I was a teenager the term vegan seemed weird, strict, impossible, a million other things. Now I know from it's experience it's not that hard and I like to help out if vegetarians feel like reaching a little further.

Thanks, Terry. I've been wondering the same thing for some time. I had wondered where you had gone. I have posted some of my vegan recipe makeovers here on SP. Have you?

Hi, I think that is a good idea. Thanks for mentioning that other group. I think I'll venture over.

Hi group,

This group was instrumental in getting me on the road to becoming a vegan, and I will always owe you a dept of gratitude for that. But as time has gone by I've seen the need more and more for a group to be all vegetarian or all vegan. There are some major differences in the two. This is why I'm not as active in this group anymore, because of some of those differences (such as recipes calling for eggs or milk or suggestions for protein from those sources and other differences.)

Why has this group not become all vegetarain? We have a great group at Spark People called "Vegan Fitness and Nutrition" which keeps growing (and is where I spend most of my time these days). So wouldn't it be of benefit to Vegetarians to make this an all Vegetarian group?

The reason I suggest this is only for making life more simple. I love this group and have no issues whatsoever with it---it's been a great resource! But I'm just curious why they don't sprout out into "something of our own" and make it all vegetarian?? Surely this would help vegetarians out to have an all vegetarian site.

Just curious.
