Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to take the time to introduce myself. I do still eat fish, but would like to also let that go and be a vegan, but need to find ideas on what I should do to make sure my body has everything it needs. I'm currently trying to lose at least 75lbs and glad to find this group. I hope to learn from all of you.

Hi, everyone! I will 'fess up immediately to say I'm not truly a vegetarian. I don't eat any mammals, but do consume seafood and poultry. However, I am trying to cut back and also move away from eating cheese and other dairy products.

So I hope to find some inspiration and ideas here. I'm especially interested in hearing how people helped their kids make a transition toward a healthier, more veggie-laden diet.

Hi, Adrienne! I love your outlook- not necessarily here to lose weight but to be aware of being healthy. Cool!

I am a non-meat-eater myself (except I do eat fish), and I'm alleric to dairy so I don't eat that either. So, we'll have to trade vegetarian advice, LOL! (I'm also sensitive to wheat so I can only have that every 2-3 days)

Welcome!

just quickly -

i'm new to sparkpeople, and new to this group, and also new to the whole concept of 'dieting' as i consider myself to be a very 'fat positive' woman and am mostly against the modern trend of yoyo diets and obsession over appearance (i.e. celebrities etc and ridiculous 00 size models..)

so why the change of heart? well i am super happy with myself and my lifestyle, but quite aware that i don't make enough conscious choices about what i put in my body and can be very lazy at times resorting to junk and convenience foods.. so i want to use this not only as a place to measure the type of foods i'm indulging in, but maybe also as a safe place from which to challenge my ingrained 'fat positive' ideals. i'm looking at potentially losing quite a lot of weight.. almost as an experiment, because even as a child i was chubby so seeing a smaller me will be strange and odd and i'm curious to see how (if at all!) this affects my energy levels and self-image.

waffle waffle. :)

i've been vegetarian - boderline vegan - for nearly two years. i eat NO meat, fish, cheese or eggs.. except i do have 'hidden' eggs and animal products - such as butter in things, or eggs in things (like egg pasta) although this is also something i'd like to move away from in an attempt to make more conscious choices about what i ingest.

i'll shush now. anyway, hi, i'm adrienne, 26 and live in the uk. :)

Hello There!

I'm a 32 year-old who's new to this lifestyle. I stopped eating meat (other than fish) about 8 months ago when I really started studying the food industry and the hormones and antibiotics in meat... Then I found out through blood testing that I am allergic to dairy. So, this lifestyle is one that I have to follow as well as one that I want to follow. Guess I lucked out!

I look forward to reading through all of the posts and learning all sorts of new things.

Good luck to all!

Greetings ~

I am 29 and have alternated between ovo-lacto-vegetarianism and ovo-lacto-pollo-vegetariansim for years, but am now firmly no-meat-whatsoever. My diet choices have been largely driven by food allergies - beef and shellfish primarily.

I feel strongly about clear labeling of foods and am appalled when manufacturers sneak chicken fat into an item that 1)doesn't need it and 2)would otherwise be a wonderful vegetarian product.

Although I have friends who are vegetarian and vegan, it is nice to have the support of others who face the same challenges and prejudices that I do.

Thanks!
Elizabeth

Hello, all! I'm 25 and I've been a vegetarian since I was three, of my own choice. I just never liked the taste! A few years ago I switched from regular milk to soy milk, and I've gradually switched over to a vegan diet. I just discovered the wonders of soy yogurt. I'm in heaven!

I belonged to SP a while back, but I rejoined to get back my motivation to be healthy. I love the tools, and the points system is great, as imaginary as it may be. I'm hoping that I'm more successful with SP this time than last. See you around!

Hi everyone. :-)

I'm 39 and have been a vegetarian most of my life; it's really pretty much a natural thing for me. I was raised as a vegetarian and didn't eat meat until I was 10, then quit eating meat when I was 25. It's simply the diet that I prefer - the food that I like best.

I just joined this site and have been feeling my way around. I was looking for a web site where I could get some good, healthy inspiration to lose a bit of weight (probably only 10 pounds or so), build on the exercise I've been doing but should do more, and stay healthy. I need continued motivation and thought this site might help, with its tools for tracking things, it's guidance for staying motivated, and the forums.

I'm looking forward to spending some time here!

Hello everybody!

Just joined the team and wanted to say hey. :) I'm not a new Sparker by any means, but am trying to make a better effort to go veg/vegan and overall see what works for me. I've been trying to really educate myself on all the ins and outs of healthier, animal free eating over the past few months and am very excited!

Cheers,
--Sara

Hello everyone. I have been a vegetarian for a few months and was a semi-vegetarian (I know, not a true vegetarian and poor description) since middle school. I am glad to meet others who share common beliefs and lifestyle.

Hi everyone! I'm new to the site, as of today and excited to meet new people. I've been vegan for almost a year now and I love it. In high school I was vegetarian for a while, but because of medical reasons I ended up eating meat again. But I finally decided it was time to try it again, but this time going vegan right away. It's great to meet other veg people for ideas because currently I'm only ever around one other person that is.

I am restarting here at SparkPeople. I used to be a member, but don't remember my login stuff, so I just signed up again.

I was a vegetarian through high school and the beginning of college. I fell back into eating meat and just general bad eating habits when I got together with my husband. Now, years later, I have to try to correct the damage that I did to myself all this time.

I am returning to vegetarianism and actually plan to become vegan soon. I am in transition right now, but I'm thinking it will be better to just jump straight into it.

I hope to find support here and, in turn, be able to encourage others as well.

Its great to be here!

I've been around SparkPeople for about 6 mos, but I'm brand new to vegetarianism. Well, almost new -- I'm still eating the last bits of meat and plan to start my new eating lifestyle on July 1. I've never been a big meat eater and have been enjoying soy burgers and chicken for quite some time, so I don't expect this to be a huge, drastic change. I hope to go vegan eventually, and this is the first step in that direction.

hi i am new to sparkpeople (well i have been a member, but did not really use the site until a few weeks ago). anyway, i was vegan for almost 6 years but have recently added back in fish and eggs because i am hypothyroid and the amount of soy i was eating was interfering with my medication. however, i still eat a very veg friendly diet. i love a variety of foods, but am looking for suggestions for veg foods with good protein but no soy. what do you all like?

Hi. I'm fairly new to spark, but I've been a vegetarian for a little over 4 years. It's been something that I enjoy, but since marrying a meat-eater about 8 months ago, I've noticed it is a little more challenging. Anyhow, I'm hoping that getting more involved in the message boards and the spark community as a whole will help to keep me on the program.

Hi, I'm Lyric. I've been a vegetarian only a bit over a year, though it was a process over time before that when my daughter and I ate meat less and less. I feel generally better, although the lunchroom at my workplace mostly feels that vegetarians eat pasta and gardenburgers every day, so I'm having to get a bit less lazy to feed myself in a more healthy fashion -- my cholesterol went up and I'm sure that's part of the reason (couldn't be that I'm 52 and perimenopausal!). I'm excited to be here - just the act of setting down what I eat and do. . . and what I want to achieve. . . is getting me psyched about getting healthier.

Hi Everyone. I'm Michelle. I've been a vegetarian on and off my whole life, but have been a "strict" vegetarian since January 2007. I do eat dairy and eggs, but most of my meals consist of vegetables and grains. I love to cook vegetarian meals and I've been collecting vegetarian cookbooks for several months now.

Hi I'm Jan from Lincolnshire England and I have been a vegetarian for so long I can't actually remember, but I feel it has been a liberation for me after years as a child being forced to eat meat. Many times i have brought meat home in my hankerchief from my school dinners! and fed it to the dog! I think i am far more adventurous with recipes and many of my friends and family hate having to admit to enjoying them too!
I just wish when dining out that the waiter etc., would not call out " who's the vegetarian"!

Hi!

I'm Casey - I've been vegetarian for 14 years, but not necessarily a healthy one. We just had twins in September who we are planning on raising vegetarian, so I want to be healthy and model a healthy diet for them, too. I just joined SparkPeople today so I'm hoping it can help me meet my goals.

Hi everyone! My name is Nikki, I live in Dallas TX currently (but about to move to Austin at the end of the month) and I am new to the vegan lifestyle as of about 2 weeks ago. So far, so good-I have lost 6 pounds and I feel really good. A good friend of mine is a vegan chef at a Whole Foods, and after seeing how much weight she lost and how fantastic she looks since she went vegan a year ago, I decided to give it a try.

Looking forward to learning from everyone here!

Hi. I have recently begun to subscribe to a vegetarian lifestyle. It is not the first time, as about 28 years ago my husband and I were expecting our daughter, we ate macrobiotics. We were lucky enough to have a large garden behind our house so we could raise organic veggies. I decided to return to the vegetarian life when the FDA decided eating cloned animals was all right and they did not even have to label the meat. After reading what these animals have to suffer, reading "Fast Food Nation", and several other articles about genetically modified and irradiated food it was a no brainer. I feel 100% better for the change. Now I have to accomplish the rest, loose weight, develop a daily exercise routine, and balance out my life. It is a tall order for me. Especially finding balance, as I have Bi-Polar Disorder, but I am determined to succeed. I am looking forward to getting to know all of you here at Sparkpeople. Deb B.

Hi, I am Lauren. I have been a vegan for a little over a year now. I became vegan because I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease and after a lot of trial and error I realized it was the best diet for me. But now it's also a moral thing, I have a 14 month old pug who I love to death and I have developed into a huge animal lover! I guess getting Crohn's wasn't so bad after all! emoticon I've gained about 15 pounds from being on Prednisone on and off. From being sick I have gotten down to 98lbs, but now that I am healthy I am about 120 and that's after already losing about 4. I am hoping to get back down to my pre-steriod weight of 109. I look forward to getting to know everyone! emoticon

Hello! My name is Jennifer, I have been vegetarian for 13 years, and vegan for 8 months. I always wanted to go vegan, but was reluctant. I finally decided to go for it- I hate being that person who says they want to do something but never does. I love cooking, and trying new recipes! I am hoping to meet new faces and find some new recipes too!

Hi everyone - I'm Sarah and I'm just now starting a vegetarian lifestyle....hoping to transition to veganism eventually, but I wanted to start as a vegetarian to "ease" into it. My husband is (and probably will never be) a vegetarian, so I anticipate that will create some challenges, but I'm ready to overcome them! I can't wait to browse the great recipes you all have, and hopefully contribute some of my own eventually.

I'm 23 years old and I have been a vegetarian since I was 9. It wasn't ever a really difficult decision- I just eat what I like. I do eat sushi on occasion but I still generally describe myself as vegetarian to the general public because it's easier. Now that I'm more actively trying to lose weight, I'm looking for healthier recipes.

Hi all! My name is Darla and I've been a vegetarian for about a year and a half now. I think the main reason I decided to make this change was for health reasons. Diabetes runs on both sides of my family and both of my parents had different forms of cancers. I've heard that a vegetarian diet can prevent both of these. Also, within a few days of cutting out meat I felt so much better! I'm also enjoying trying out new recipes. (Probably one of the reasons the scale hasn't budged in quite awhile! lol!) Anyway, it's nice meeting all of you!

Hi. I've been vegetarian off an on since I was 15. Even when I wasn't, I only ever ate chicken and the occasional hamburger (it was just easy, never tasty). My boyfriend and I have both been vegetarian for over 2 years now but we're both chubby. (OOPS). We don't even drink milk. (I think his is due to beer and mine is due to lack of exercise.)

Hi There, I bought a cookbook called "Okay, So Now You're a Vegetarian" by Lauren Butts. Very good and easy recipes are in it. Just thought I would mention that. Plus I visit Vegetarian sites on the web. There are quite a few of them out there now. I also experiment with recipes. Sometimes you can just use your old recipes, but use vegetarian ground round for ground beef, use Morningstar chicken strips for chicken, or Morningstar steak strips for steak. Very many recipes can be converted to vegetarian. It is fun to experiment, too.

I'm not sure how much a subsription is because my mom is so nice and sends me her copies after she reads them. I find the best recipes, a wide range of foods and many of the recipes are vegan too. so i hope that helps, it's worth looking into. emoticon

Hi all, I have been a vegetarian for about 5 years now. I enjoy this lifestyle and I am healthy physically. I just want to lose about 20 pounds, though. I no longer have high cholesterol which I think is due to eating vegetarian and no longer eating junk food. I will be happy to read what is written here and meet some of you, too. Take care. I'm Jordan. I'm primarily a vegan, but as you know it can be challenging when you're out sometimes. So I occasionally will eat dairy products. I eat this way for health reasons, I've seen the benefit of a lack of animal protein in the diet in respect to many health related issues. Plus, I just feel better!! =)

Hi
I'm Aimee and I've been vegan for a little over a year and a half (2 years this October) and was vegetarian for a couple of years previous to that.
I'm vegan for ethical reasons but found the health benefits and awesome food was just a lovely bonus.
Of course, all that wonderful food adds up doesn't it? so that's why I'm here ;)

Hello, I'm Siobhan and I've been vegetarian since I was in 7th grade. My problem is I tend to cook with way too much pasta. I am mainly here to help new vegies and get new ideas to help mix things up a bit.

Hi! I'm Fatinah. I have been toying with becoming vegetarian for a long time and have just decided to take the plunge. I'm both excited and nervous about my decision - as my biggest hurdle will be to keep my dinners exciting enough to please my husband and 14 year old daughter. I don't expect them to give up meat - but they will be eating meat alternatives for dinner!! I look forward to getting to know some of you and maybe picking up a tip or two!!

Melody, I just read your post about nose bleeds and Atkins, and now this one. It seems very clear to me that you are doing something good for your body, in spite of the scale's refusal to budge. Don't give up--the scale will move eventually.

This is really a reply to both the last posts. I didn't decide to go Vegin (vegan)--my body decided. I was having a difficult time digesting my food. I was leaving the chicken, fish, turkey untouched. (I had been unconsciously avoiding red meat for a while and seven years ago, developed a violent allergy to pork--out of nowhere). I didn't understand WHAT was going on, then a friend described this Vegin Out program (I'm a writer, work at home, and love having my meals cooked and delivered because I eat better instead of writing all day, then eating seven peanut butter and jelly sandwiches before going to bed because I realize I forgot to eat and I'm starving). Anyway, my body told me, and I just listened to it. From day one, I felt better. The digestion problems and pain stopped. I don't miss meat; don't feel like I sacrificed or gave anything up. I'd made a couple trips to Tibet; climbed the holy mountains in China--but basically have a sane (I think) spiritual approach to life. I mean, I wasn't trying to become a monk, or anything. (Or maybe at some level I was.) I just woke up one day and realized, "if it had a face, I don't want to eat it." My body smiled, and has been smiling ever since.

Hello everyone! My name is Rebekah and I recently decided to go back to being a vegetarian...I was one for nearly 3 years in high school. I just decided because meat has just started to be completley revolting to me in addition to other factors. :)

There web site is www.veginout.com -- I'm not getting any commission or money. I just love their food and their service AND especially the price. I could no WAY buy this organic, healthy food -- much less have it prepared for me -- for anywhere near what I pay. (And I love having my meals prepared.)

Hi. I don't know where you live, but I'm in So. CA and I'm a vegan too. My body just "told me" it was ready to do that, and I listened, over half a year ago. I use Vegin (or Vegan) Out. For $100, I get a week's worth of food prepared and delivered to my door. They will ship anywhere, if people are willing to pay shipping cost (you can ship on ice). The food is excellent. I even get five cookies a week too--all I have to do is add breakfast and any fruits or snacks. (They advertise on this site and are great people--truly not out to gouge people on price and the food is absolutely delicious.)

Hi, I was a vegetarian for 10 years but now I consider myself "mostly vegetarian," I do have some chicken & fish now & then.

I share my home with a carnivorous boyfriend and 5 daughters in various stages of vegetarianism so dinnertime can be challenging! I love to cook but now I'm called to be even more creative in the kitchen.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you all, sharing recipes and motivation/support.

Hello everyone,

I came upon this website this afternoon and joined for weightloss support, and was excited to find this group as well. I have been a vegetarian for the past 6 years. With the extra weight I have put on, I have been ashamed to admit I am vegetarian, afterall most people assume if you are vegetarain, you are in excellent shape, right? Well, I am here now to get back into shape and learn new and better veg tricks to eating a more rounded diet. It would be great to have fellow vegetarians to toss around ideas with, since I live in the beef capital of the world, I am the only vegetarian I know. emoticon

Hi everyone!!!

I have been a vegetarian for the past 1.5 years. I have also been more or less vegan for the past few months. I try not to eat any animal products when I am cooking food for myself, but it can be harder when I am out and about. emoticon

Hi everyone. My name is Heather. I just turned 32 this past weekend. I am happily married with 4 kids, ages 12, 10, 8, and 6. I have always been a meat eater. When I met my husband, he wasn't really that much of a meat eater. Not red meat, just chicken here and there. It was the way he was raised. I turned him into a red meat eater. Well, now I am moving slowly towards being vegan. My biggest reason is because of the animals. I watched Meet Your Meat. I was horrified. I am doing it slowly though. I am cutting out red meat and slowly chicken. I don't eat fish at all. And I am not a big egg or dairy person.
The other reason for doing it is my health. I am only 32 and way too unhealthy and out of shape for my age. I need to lose about 65 lbs. I am slowly working yoga into my life. And also some aerobics.
Well, nice to meet everyone
Heather

Hi I am new to the SparkPeople. I have lost over 20 pounds in the last 2 years by going Vegan. My daughter who is now 18 became a vegan when she was 16 and asked me if it would be alright and I said yes and that I would join her mainly because I did not want to spend extra money making 2 different meals. I have thoroughly enjoy the vegan lifestyle as there are so many different foods to eat and my daughter enjoys making different meals. I do care about the animals and how they are abused by humans but mainly I found after the weight came off that I love this lifestyle. I must admit I do cheat once in awhile though.

I go to the Y regularly - 3 times a week. I still find it hard in the evenings as I do like to eat - but I try not to eat after 7 so as a result I keep myself busy by crocheting, or going out for coffee with friends (which sometimes is bad because I tend to have something bad and then I feel worse afterwards). I also love to read and keep the house up and I do like watching TV which cuts into a lot of my time. I tend to just listen to music if I need to get something done. What I would love to do is totally get rid of the TV but I know my daughter likes to watch movies as we have a DVD player.Movies I am not to crazy about.

Right now I would just love to have some support from other people who are vegans and also who are women over 50.

I have been away for several months and am slowly coming back to this site. I had gallbladder surgrey in March and am still recouping from that. Things I could eat before now give me trouble and I have not tried to eat the things I could eat before. What took the cake with my gallbladder was a really sweet organic apple. I only got to eat half of it because everyone in our lunchroom had to have a taste of an organic apple. That afternoon I was bawling! I hurt so bad. I was in surgery the next week. Think today I will get some more of those organic apples and try again.

I have been off and on a Vegan. I still like my meat sometimes. I have noticed that with beef I feel really heavy.

I need all the help I can get. Eating a lettuce salad just does not appeal to me. Need to have some more things on it and some color.

Hi, I'm Jan!

I've been moving toward vegetarianism for years and years and years. My son is a Vegan and much more spiritually and physically healthy. Recently, at a Thai restaurant, I choked on my chicken Pad Thai while resding some PETA literture. When my son use to say that he wouldn't eat sanything with a face, I'd point out that plants have feelings and auras too, that the indigenous always ask permission to consume the flesh of an animal. However, modern farm animals are now objectified commodities , no mind sentient beings who suffer. I'd like to leave this debate as well as gluttony behind. After all, my mother used the image of "poor children starving in Africa" to get me to clean my plate, a terrible habit! I'm still "addicted" to meat products, although I enjoy soy, tofu, nuts, veggies, etc. I don't cook often and prefer raw foods, but I could use a little ingenuity about "safe passage" and meeting my protein requirements as i have most of the chronic illnesses of a meat-eater. I'm glad to have found you in my quest to find my way! emoticon

Hello!

I'm Gina, and I'm just stepping into the vegetarian lifestyle. I'm 23 years old, have always thought about being a vegetarian, but I always had an excuse. But something the other day made me think, and I realized I didn't have any more excuses, nothing was in my way except my husband, and he said he would have no problem with it either so...here I go.

I still have a LOT to learn, I don't know how much I will be posting since I am not very knowledgeable yet, but I hope to become so. Just reading through a few posts on here, it's evident how little I know, so I will be doing some research.

We have a friend visiting at the moment (I am living in Hawaii for 2 more months), so since I decided this about 2 days ago, it's been a tough 2 days...I've found getting enough protein (for me, I lift weights a lot and try to keep it high) while eating out A LOT is hard. But I know I will get the hang of it once he is gone and I can focus on it more.

I am the most worried about my family, which is who I will be living with after I leave Hawaii, and which I already mentioned on the questions sticky. I am still not sure how they are going to react, but we will see.

Anyway, that's all about me, I'm excited (and nervous) about being a part of this team!

-Gina

Just thought I'd introduce myself to the team page in the correct way. I'm Anna and although I found SparkPeople a few weeks ago, I'm starting things in earnest from tomorrow (Tuesday)

I was brought up vegetarian from birth so I've never eaten any meat or fish at all in 32 years. I've got no interest in trying meat of any type and can not stand the cruelty involved in the rearing of animals for meat consumption.

I'm just keen to hear how other vegetarians / vegans are losing unwanted weight and keeping it off.

Hi Don,
Thank you so much! I definitely will look into that as an antidote to my ice cream addiction! In the meantime, I really appreciate the contact; it helps. I am noticing that there are alot of links with this site for vegetarians. This is great. The best to you.

Hi Carolyn,

you may have already tried this, but I thought I would offer it just in case. Of course it may take some getting used to, but of all the, soy & rice based ice creams I really like this one. Although I don't eat it much anymore since I've developed this attachment to fat......everything I eat attaches itself to me as fat :) However, if this is available in your town, I would highly recommend it. It's made here in Oregon and I don't know how widely it is distrubuted. http://www.turtlemountain.com/

Enjoy! I too am vegetarian because of my ethics. don

Hi! My family and I have not eaten meat for almost eleven years now but we do occasionally have seafood. It has become amazingly easier to eat at friends' houses over the years as more and more people seem to choose non-meat meals. I worry sometimes about my daughters' getting enough protein as they have grown up but they are healthy so something went correctly! emoticon

Hi Degreath,
I just found the site for vegetarians and I want to just make some contact to reinforce participating. I have been a vegetarian for around 17 years. I am a psychotherapist and am doing some projects that are interesting to me. I have a commitment to the ethics of not eating meat. I do struggle to get enough protein and to taking better care of my body. I think it could be suppotive to work with Spark. I have two adult children and a husband who is also a therapist vegetarian who introduced me to ice cream when we got together ten years ago; and I'm still struggling with that! At any rate, I loved your Kafka quote. Good luck to all of us! Carolyn

Hi everyone, I'm new here, but a vegetarian for 25 years, almost exclusively vegan, but once in a while I eat a tiny bit of cheese and I still buy some leather boots.

I'm here to get my exercise into a regular routine again and to keep track of my calorie intake. As I get older I find it's so easy to add a pound of fat....or more and I want to be more aware of how much I'm taking in.

Best of luck to everyone here, stick with your goals and day by day you will achieve them......it seems to be slow, but don't get discouraged it's happening.....

Hello everyone! My name is Caeryn and I've been a vegetarian/pescetarian for about two years now. I try to eat vegetarian most of the time; however, I'll occasionally sneak in some seafood or poultry. I love all veggies and I particularly enjoy trying new and different recipies from around the globe - I have a huge weakness for any type of international or ethnic food. And squash - I love squash.

my name is mark and i am a diabetic trying to reverse the condition. I am using the plan laid out 9in a book by Dr Neal Barnard. He proposes a vegan diet with very little oil or fat. I bought a few vegetarian cookbooks but they had a lot of recipes with dairy (a no no on this plan). i look foward to getting new recipes and ideas frtom memebers of this group.

Hi my name is Maria and I'm 30. about 15 years ago i was Vegan till I met my husband. I have been eating meat every since. I really can't stand red meat but tollorate it. I have been trying to go back to being vegan but haven't been able to give up seafood. I would really love to have my family eat vegan at least once a week if I'm lucky. We do hav meatless days but I can't control what they eat at school. I guess I don't know what I'm saying I just like it formyself and would love for my family to join me. But I guess I have to start somewhere.

Hey Guys and Gals!!!!!

I was so glad to find a group of people who share the same passion for not eating meat as I do! It is hard to live in a world surrounded by people who think a meal is not complete without a huge slab of meat! I have been a vegetarian for 11 years and I love it! I try to be creative with my food and I look forward to sharing and receiving recipes with you all!! I look forward to new and exciting topics and talking with you all!

Hello all, I've been a vegetarian since December and I love it. This is the first diet I've tried that I've loved- both for the way it makes me feel and the way it tastes. I love cooking and I've tried all kinds of new foods that I probably never would have thought of if I was still eating meat. Has anyone noticed though that the vegetarian spark meal plans kinda suck? It's very repetitious with almost no variety. Does anyone have any favorite vegetarian meals they'd like to share? I eat some vegan meals, but I also eat cheese and dairy occasionally. Thanks, I always love hearing new ideas :-)

Hello! *waves vigorously*

I am Sara. Between my philisophical beliefs and lack of a gallbladder I am Vegan. I have to say once in awhile I miss the cheese but for the most part not really. So, Hi. If you have any suggestions on what to eat besides anything soy based (like the soy not chicken patties.) Let me know because those upset my stomach and I need the protein. Thanks!

Hello to everyone! I'm Mandy from Louisiana. I've just started the veg lifesytle after studying about it for about 2 weeks. I have never cared for meat and actually vegged for about 3 months a 5 years ago. Unfortunately, I was pretty young and took to an unhealthy veg lifestyle, gained weight, then stopped vegging. Now, after a ton of research, I am EXTREMEMLY excited about making this life choice!

I'm ready to be healthy, not just to drop a few pounds. My family (being from the deep south) all love fatty fried foods and I'm not wanting to go down the path of heart attach and stroke, it at all possible. I love my family and I am hoping my choices will rub off.

I'm loving the SP site and the veg message boards, please feel free to talk w/ me or to motivate me. :o) I promise to do the same! Good luck to everyone!!

Hugs
~Mandy

Hi! I'm Marlana. I've been a vegetarian since 2000, I just realized that this weekend will be my seven year mark. I started on SP about three weeks ago and I love it.

Hello,
my name is Melissa. I am not 100% vegetarian yet, but am well on my way to becoming one. I do not eat any red meat these days, though do trip up in my efforts with chicken, turkey, and the occassional fish. I printed out a load of vegetarian and vegan recipes off of spark recipes tonight and look forward to trying them out!

Hi My name is Cathy. I am a pascarian (sp?) as I only eat fish. I do eat eggs and dairy products. I have been doing this lifestyle for about three months now. I will never go back to eating meat. I possibly will give up seafood at some point but for now I really enjoy my food.

I can only love others if I love myself.
