Wow, as my crazy week continued into the weekend, I hadn't even noticed that we won until just now! Woo hoo time to shop!

Thank you ladies for the support and inspiration. I thank my lucky stars that I ended up on this team and in this group.

Have a great (rest of the) weekend. You all ROCK.

I really can't wait to go shopping! I called a girlfriend of mine this morning and we are going to make an afternoon of it tomorrow. I have to admit though, I am treating myself to more than one new article of clothing, I'm to the point that a lot of my clothes are just getting to big, and that's okay for around the house but I look terrible when I go out....so, I'm thinking it may be more like 4 or five new articles of clothing.....anyway, have a great Saturday!! That's awesome, Leah. Keep up the great work.

My son went to see it this afternoon. He actually went there early because he was afraid that they would sell out for the first showing. He ended up getting a job. He talked to the manager and he hired him to start on Sunday and gave him a free ticket to see the movie. He loved the movie too.

I have some great news. Apparently, I was mistaken on my starting weight for this challenge, which means that my pounds lost is off. I have lost 4 lbs this week, not 2 lbs. Woo Hoo!!! The confusion was because of my official weigh in day being on Sunday. Thanks to Janea for catching it for me. That really made my day.

I am just so thankful to have found SparkPeople and I am especially thankful to have been assigned to this group for the past week. It has been awesome! I am thrilled to report the following:

Starting weight - 327
Current weight - 321
Total pounds lost - 6

Lets hope we win this week!!!!

(p.s. Lanie - sorry to hear about your very stressful week. Anyway - what has helped for me is to get on the treadmill and imagine "pounding" into the treadmill with my feet the person who is creating the stress (or go through the list becuase I am sure it is more than one) - you would not believe how much better it makes me feel and it makes me cope. On days I exercise like this and do this mental "release" I have been having no palpitations.)

Hi everyone. Sorry I have been MIA. Yesterday and Wednesday were my Uncle's calling hours at the funeral home. Yesterday my best friend watched the kids while I went to the afternoon calling hours, and I decided there was no way I could do it again. So, I didn't go to the evening calling hours yesterday. I felt bad, but my mom reassured me that it was ok. My best friend stayed most of the day with me, helped me clean up the house (sadly lacking, I haven't done anything since this past weekend) then I went over to her house until midnight to help make salads for camping this weekend. I had a blast, and I really needed to get away.

WEIGH-INS!

If someone can post the weigh-ins to Laura tonight, I would greatly appreciate it. My uncle's funeral is today, and then my best friend invited us to go camping with them this weekend, so I don't know if I will be online again today. I need some time to get away.

My Final weigh-in:

SW - 266
CW - 263
TL - 3 lbs!

This is a milestone for me too, I have lost 20 lbs on SP so far!!!

I am here. I had an exam this morning which I had not passed earlier this month. I passed today so I am thrilled.

I have been really busting my hump between exercising and studying. I can participate more. Sorry I was MIA.

Hey Gang...hope all of you are doing well this week. I've been going non-stop for the last 72 hrs so I apologize for not posting. Wanted to post some more recipies for you guys before I finished working so here there are:

Since I got some wrinkled noses with the salmon recipe I thought it was best to stay away from my tofu and tempeh recipes for now. So here are some more of my favorite ethnic recipes.

Enjoy!

Sesame Noodles with Chicken - about 15 minutes to prepare

4 ounces uncooked linguine
1/2 cup matchstick-cut carrots (lazy single chick tip - use the shreds from the salad bar)
1/3 cup vegetable broth (I use Wolfgang Puck's)
1/4 cup reduced-fat peanut butter (I use Smart Balance)
1 tbs rice vinegar
2 tbs low-sodium soy sauce
1/2 tbs ground ginger
1 teaspoons hot sauce (I use extra)
1 cup chopped cooked chicken breast
1/2 cup thinly sliced green onions
1 tbs sesame seeds, toasted

Cook pasta (without salt). Add carrots to pasta during the last 3 minutes of cooking. Drain well.
Combine broth and next 5 ingredients (through hot sauce) with hand mixer or blender until smooth. Combine pasta mixture, chicken, and onions in a large bowl. Drizzle broth mixture over pasta mixture; toss well. Sprinkle with sesame seeds.

Makes 2 servings. '

CHILES RELLENOS CASSEROLE

Ingredients
1/2 pound ground chicken
1 cup chopped onion (I use the frozen ones - no tears)
1 3/4 tsp ground cumin
1 1/2 tsp dried oregano
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1 can fat-free refried beans
2 cans whole green chiles, drained and cut lengthwise into quarters
1 cup shredded reduced fat Colby-Jack or Mexican blend cheese (kraft makes a 2% version)
1 cup frozen corn, thawed (and drained)
1/3 cup flour
1/4 tsp salt
1 1/3 cups skim milk
1/8 tsp hot sauce
2 eggs, lightly beaten
2 egg whites

Cook chicken and onion in a nonstick skilletuntil browned...combine chicken mixture, cumin, and next 5 ingredients in a bowl..set aside.
Arrange half of green chile strips in baking dish, top with half of cheese, spoon beans onto cheese and lightly spread, sprinkle on corn on top of beans. Arrange remaining chile strips over corn; top with remaining cheese.

Combine flour and salt in a bowl, gradually add milk and hot sauce, stirring with a wire whisk. Then stir in eggs and egg whites (don't wisk..or else the eggs get funky). pour over casserole & bake at 350 about 1 hour or until the eggs are set. Let stand for 5 minutes then enjoy with ice water with lime.

Makes 6 servings

Good evening everyone!!

I hope everyone is on track today since this is our last day on this challenge. I know we will be the winners again. We are doing awesome!!! Keep up the great work everyone.

I'm sorry I'm not feeling well this evening. I'm under a great deal of stress at work and I think it is making me ill. I really need to get to bed.

So I hope everyone has a great evening. Take care and don't forget to weigh in tomorrow.

Hey everyone! Hope everyone is doing well! I had a really really hard day in court today - I went against the same judge that handed me my head on a silver platter yesterday. Today was much better, but still she was pretty condescending. I really hate to say this but female judges are the WORST. Its like - they have to prove something. Anyway - I took the day off the treadmill but I will be hitting to tomorrow! I've been at it 10 days in a row!

I splurged a bit at lunch but then went back to the ole cereal for dinner thing. I got some really great organic raisin bran with Omega 3 added from Trader Joes and it is great - really does the trick!

Anyway - Leah hope you had a good day at work, and Janea, congrats on reaching your latest weight loss goal! I see your ticker just changed.... :) :) :)

Sassy, man keep that stepping going! That is fantastic!!!

Lainie - we tivo'd IDOL but it cut off before they announced the winner! I since found out who... but unfortunately our favorite was eliminated last week!

FRUIT CHALLENGE FOR FRIDAY!!!!

Okay gals, Friday is our last day of the challenge, but since healthy living is a lifelong challenge I thought I would give you this one...

Eat THREE FRUITS today! Enjoy!!! :) :) :)

Here's to seeing less of you gals tomorrow...

Good evening everyone!!! Sorry I'm so late getting on. I hope everyone is having a great evening. I just finished watch American Idol. It took them until almost 5 after 10 to finally announce who one. My favorite from the very beginning won tonight. I won't say in case there is someone watching on the west coast or if someone tivo'd it.

Anyway, we only have a couple of days left in this challenge. I hope everyone is doing great this week. Have you been following the exercise and fruit/vegie challenges? Are you following your plan and meeting your goals this week? I hope so. We are going to win this challenge again.

Go Super Weight Busters!!! We can do it!!!

Good Evening!

How is everyone doing? Great I hope! Well I managed to walk 2 miles on the treadmill today! I also did my strenth training. It felt amazing. I thought I'd hurt afterward but I didn't! So I finally got in some cardio! :)

I am having an amazing day! I missed out on lunch because I can't eat but an hour before the gym. So I waited on lunch. I ate a great dinner and had a snack afterward. I only ate 1400 calories today but I'm happy I didn't go over. It has been a great day!

I'm glad to see everyone doing so well with their food and exercise. We will win this challenge! Keep it up!

Hugs,
Janea

I've just nicely gotten home from work and I'm pooped. Somedays those 12 hour shifts can seem like 20 hours. We were very busy in the ER today, but the day is over and now I can relax a bit.

I hope that everyone is having a wonderful Wednesday and is working hard at being the BEST team on SP!!

Have a great night everyone!

Happy Wednesday!!!!

How is everyone doing today? I got completely reamed out in court this morning by the meanest PMSing judge, so I figure it can only get better, right?

Anyway - here is your FRUIT challenge today, in honor of the Wiggles!!!

FRUIT SALAD

FRUIT SALAD
YUMMY YUMMY

Consider starting a "FRUIT SALAD BOWL" in your fridge. Every day cut up one piece of fruit and throw it in, and take out a cup of fruit. Sprinkle in lemon juice over everything to keep fruit from turning brown. This way, you always have a variety of fruit on hand.

Good evening everyone!!

Sorry that I'm so late coming on today. We had a major outage at work today. A fiber optic cable was cut. Not a good thing for a call center. Luckily, my program was able to get on the phones because our dialer was opened up via our systems guys in Omaha. Anyway, the rest of the production was down. I was without email and internet for almost the whole day, up until 30 minutes before I was to leave. I ended up working late.

I've been trying to get through all my email at home and logged my food and exercise before I started posting. It took over an hour to get that done. I had tons of emails.

Rachel, I'm so sorry about your uncle. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Sassy, I love the challenges. I do leg lifts almost every night. So this is an easy one for me. Keep the challenges coming.

Dunnhorn, thanks for the fruit and veggies challenges. I really need them. I didn't bring any lunch to work today, but I was able to have a big bowl of fruit. I had some tangerine, so I got in my T fruit. I also had grapes, apples, and strawberries. Yummy.

PeachyT, I also love to get your recipes. They sound so good, even the salmon, which I don't really care for. You're doing a great job.

Janea and Leah, thank you for your kind words. I'm happy to help motivate everyone.

Leah, my son loves the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. In fact, he is planning on waiting in line Friday morning to get his ticket for the new movie. Friday is the last day of school, but he's not going. It's only a half day and they don't have anything to do. I just have to sign a paper saying that he won't be a school.

Congratulations to everyone on their weight losses so far. You're all doing awesome!! Let's have a great weigh in on Friday and win this challenge!!

Go Super Weight Busters!!!

DUNNHORN, the only T veggie I could think of today was a tomato, so I had that, didn't even think of a tangerine .... Yellow fruits and veggies are going to be easier I think...LOL

Sassy, as always girl, you are doing a great job with the daily challenges....and today I even felt well enough to get them in!!!

Janea, as always you are a very supportive leader, we are lucky to have you. We are also lucky to have Angie backing you up.....the both of you have been doing a terrific job!

PEACHYT, Keep those recipes coming girl, although I will pass on the salmon, I hate fish of all kinds...ICK...LOL

Rachel, as I said earlier, my thoughts and prayers are with you in this difficult time.

Lainie, hope that Tuesday is treating you well. Keep the motivation coming, I always look forward to reading your posts!

I've actually had a wonderful day...able to eat, no pain so far and got in all my exercise. I also weiged in today (I'll do it again on Friday too). I'm down another 2.5 pounds...for a total of 56.5 pounds gone forever!!! I'm really happy with this loss as I have struggled quite a bit this last week!

Well, I'm off to watch a movie with my son, Pirates of the Carribean, Dead Man's Chest! We're gearing up to see the third one this weekend. Have a great evening everyone, and keep up the hard work...we are so going to kick butt in this challenge!!!

Status report, and thanks...

Hey gals - I just wanted to take a minute and shout out a hearty THANKS to all for your support and teamwork. This is my first challenge in my first time really trying to live a healthy lifestyle in way too long. I am not really dieting - just being mindful of healthy choices and I have cut out all beverages except for water and my Danactive every morning.

Anyway - I am loving this "challenge" and I am shocked at the results.

So far:
LW: 327 lbs
CW: 325 lbs
Loss: 2 lbs... and counting!!!

THANKS to everyone for the great support! Hopefully the 320s will be a distant memory soon!!!

Happy Tuesday!!!

Okay, gals... these Fruit/Veggie challenges have become very challenging!

Hope everyone is working on the "T" fruit and veggies. I'll let y'all get by with a tangerine or a tomato. This is harder than I thought!

For Wednesday, consider trying to get in a YELLOW veggie to protect your eyes! I was watching the Today show this morning and they had a feature on fruits/veggies that help with vision. The deal is YELLOW/ORANGE and leafy green (what isn't leafy green good for?)

Anyway - enjoy... Wednesday's challenge is for YELLOW VEGGIE.

Yellow Pigment in Veggies Protects Against Eye Disease
TUESDAY, Aug. 15 (HealthDay News) -- Yellow pigments found in some vegetables, including corn and squash, may help protect older women against age-related vision loss, a U.S. study suggests.

Researchers at the University of Wisconsin in Madison studied 1,787 women ages 50 to 79. The study found that those younger than 75 who ate a diet rich in the carotenoids lutein and zeaxanthin appeared to have a lower risk of intermediate age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

The findings were published in the August issue of the journal Archives of Opthalmology.

AMD is the leading cause of blindness among older Americans. There is no cure, and current treatments only slow the progression of the disease.

Carotenoids are found in corn, squash, egg yolks, broccoli, peas and leafy green vegetables. Previous studies have suggested that carotenoids may reduce risk of AMD.

"This exploratory observation is consistent with a broad body of evidence from observational and experimental studies that suggests that these carotenoids may protect against AMD," wrote the authors of this new study.

"Still, given the numerous analyses performed in this study, our results could be due to chance. More conclusive evidence from long-term prospective studies and clinical trials is needed to determine whether the intake of macular carotenoids themselves, or as markers or broader dietary patterns, can protect against intermediate AMD or delay progression in individuals who have early stages of the disease," they added.

That is very impressive on the weight loss too! Great job!

Time for me to kick it up a notch, I have been so consumed with worry over how my uncle was doing, I really slacked on tracking my food, and even eating in general. I haven't done any exercises either. My uncle is in a better place now, and is whole and happy, so I can rest better, as much as it hurts. Time to get moving and get back on track.

Hi everyone, I am here. I guess I have been lurking more than anything, but I have been reading.

My mom just called me, my uncle passed away a little bit ago, so I am just sitting at the computer, I can't go back to sleep. I thought I would come to the group and see how everyone was doing.

(I changed it to read woman instead of man, since we're all women in this group.)

I know that we all want to get healthy, so let's continue to find a way to do that. No excuses!!! We can do it!! Portion control, exercise, and water is the way to go!! Make sure you eat fruits and vegies!!! We can win this battle. We will win this challenge.

Let's go, Ladies!!!! We are number 1!!!

Hey Leslie,

I am so bad about fruits and veggies. The only one I can think of right now is a Tangerine. I haven't had one in ages. I wonder if they are in season. I hope someone else has some other ideas. My brain is just not in working mode right now.

FRUIT/VEGGIE Challenge!!!

Okay - y'all remember that I am fairly new at this and today has been a complete fanny-ripper of a day so I am low on inspiration. Being that this is late, I will focus on tomorrow with this challenge...

Tomorrow is TUESDAY. SO, lets feature our "T" fruits and veggies!

How bout it, gals? What interesting ones can you add to your diet that start with T..... (other than Tomato, because we have already gone over that!!!!)

Good evening everyone,

Sorry I wasn't able to get on here earlier, but Mondays are super busy for me at work, well, in fact, most days are lately. Anyway, I'm glad to be home and on here with ya'll.

Angie, congratulations on the virtual 5K race. That is just awesome for you and your kids. Keep up the great work!!!

Leah, I'm sorry you're still feeling under the weather. I hope you get better soon. Thank you so much for your kind and encouraging words to me. It means alot to me.

Sassy, I love your challenges. I'm getting them in every day. I am determined to get in all this exercise. I know it's very good for me and will help me get my blood sugars level and hopefully off this medication. Keep those challenges coming!!

So, where is everyone else today? Guess I'm not the only one with a busy Monday. I hope everyone is following their meal plans, exercising, and doing all the challenges. We will be the winners again!!!

Hello my beatuiful team/ladies,

I am so happy to be back. It was a wonderful and lovely wedding and I got in lots of exercise and ate some good food and a few bad. But I did the bad in extreme moderation. I did get on the scale today to see how I did over the weekend and I did lose a pound but hoping for more by friday.

I wish yea a quick recovery Leah I am so sorry to hear yea are under the weather. I hope it is nothing too serious and that yea get back to yourself soon.

Loving the reciepe's Tracy. Wow I am going to try all of them out in the next few days.

As for the fruit and veggie challenges I have met most of them over the weekend and did not even know they were challenges. Thanks and keep them coming.

Lainie as always your inspirational words are very motivational and I was delighted to get your email and read your postings. With all of us helping one another out I know we are going to continue in our "losing" success.

So with all this said on with our exercise challenge..

CHALLENGE ONE: Walk for 30 minutes (even if its not a cardio day) (can be on treadmill, walking neighborhood, doing WATP, etc, what ever your comfort level of walking consists of)
CHALLENGE TWO: Do 15 minutes of strength Training (even if its not a strength training day)
CHALLENGE THREE: Do 5 minutes of stretching
CHALLENGE FOUR: Add 15 Hip Flexor Exercises (yea can find this exercise in the resource center under fitness)
Starting Position
Stand with feet slightly apart, toes forward, hands on hips or one hand on a wall/chair for support. Shift weight to right leg, keeping knee slightly bent and spine straight.

Action
EXHALE: Gradually lift the left leg, keeping it bent at 90 degrees. Lift knee as high as possible, trying to get thigh parallel to floor or higher. Hold here for 2 counts.

INHALE: Slowly lower leg to ground without letting foot rest on the floor. Complete all reps and switch sides.

Special Instructions
Make sure you aren't leaning back when lifting leg. Also, try to make the entire movement very slow and controlled.

Keep up your awesome work ladies and we will be #1 again!!!

Hi guys!! I'm not having a great start to this day, already having some tummy troubles....but I'm optimistic that it will pass and the day won't be as bad as I fear!! I need some motivation to get up and get moving I guess, I've learned the hard way that eating today is probably out of the question....it just makes things worse...but if I at least could get up off my butt...

Angie, way to go on the virtual 5K. What a great accomplishment for you......you should be very proud of yourself girl!!emoticon

Who knew all these little facts about food! I went out and bought a bag of apples yesterday and looks like I'll be heading out for some tomatoes too!

Congrats Lainie on your 2 pounds!! And for getting in all those steps!! I considered joing the women's challenge in the other group we both belong to, as I often do the WATP 3 or 4 times a week, but decided I've got enough on my plate....I'm playing my diet and exercise day to day for now. But you go girl!! I wish you continued success!!

I hope each and everyone of you have a fantastic Monday!! Keep your goals in mind and we'll come out on top of this challenge as well!!! Leah

Hey ya'll!!

Yesterday, my kids and I participated in a virtual 5k. I did it last month too but I was only able to go 2.1 miles. Yesterday, I finished it. I am so proud of myself that I dont know what to do. I am not even sore today.

Hey everyone! Hope you are having a great day today! I had one of those days where I thought I just ate and ate and ate... but then when I added it all up and looked at the final tally, it really wasn't that bad. It just amazes me at all of the eathing that I ***used*** to do at social gatherings. We had a BBQ/cookout tonight for my son's soccer team, and I remember just eating everything under the sun and never thinking about it. Today, I brought my own spinach salad, had one hot dog (with no cheese - just ketchup) and I brought my own Crystal Light to drink instead of wine. So, lets hope it pays off.

:::: FRUIT/VEGGIE THOUGHT FOR THE DAY :::::

Add a tomato!!!

Yesterday we talked about apples, and today we will learn about the powerfruit the TOMATO!!!

Eating a sandwich? Add a tomato!! Enjoying salad? Ask for extra tomatoes!! Looking for a fast side dish for your grilled chicken? How about tomato? Consider "braising" tomato by cutting it in half putting it in the oven and sprinkling on a little bread crumbs... if you have a pizza, cut up some roma tomatoes and put on there! I have found that good sliced tomatoes actually tastes better on pizza than pepperoni!!! And it is guiltless (the tomatoes, not the pizza.) :)

Here are some facts on tomatoes...

Tomato Tackles Cancer

.
Scientists are suggesting the tomato lovers may be more likely to reduce the risk of serious disease. Lycopene, an anti oxidant which gives tomatoes their lovely rich red colour, helps remove free radicals from the body. Free radicals are unstable oxygen molecules and have been implicated in cancer and other serious diseases.

Professor Michael Avirim of the Rambam Medical Center in Haifa, Israel who is testing lycopene in clinical trials says, ' In its natural form, lycopene is an excellent anti oxidant that helps to prevent formation of oxidized LDL, the 'bad' cholesterol in blood, which contributes to the build up of plaque that narrows, stiffens and constricts arteries and can lead to heart attacks. When this natural extract was added to cancer cell cultures, the lycopene inhibited their growth. Lycopene is the most potent nutritional antioxidant found to date

Another study compared men who had had a heart attack with the same number of healthy men and found that those with high levels of lycopene appeared to reduce their risk of heart diseases by a half.

The studies coordinator, Lenore Kohlmeier, professor of nutrition and epidemiology at the university of North Carolina, said, 'Based on our findings, and other research, lycopene can be an excellent antioxidant, we recommend that people eat tomato based cooked foods.'

Including fresh, ripe tomatoes in your diet is a delicious and effective way to please your palate - and may help fight some types of cancer. So indulge the tomato!

.
Latest research reveals outstanding properties of natural tomato lycopene.

.
Several recent studies have shown that a diet rich in tomatoes and tomato products is strongly linked to a reduced risk of certain cancers. In a six year study of 48,000 male professionals, Dr Edward Giovannucci and colleagues at Harvard Medical School found that consuming tomatoes and tomato based products between five to seven serving a week was associated with a reduced risk of prostate cancer of 21% to 34%.

Another study published in the International Journal of Cancer said that lycopene appears to protect against cancer of the mouth, pharynx, esophagus, stomach, colon and rectum. Researchers at the University of Illinois report that women with the highest lycopene levels had a five fold lower risk of developing precancerous signs of cervical cancer than women with lowest lycopene levels.

The human body does not produce lycopene alone and therefore relies on a consumption of tomatoes and tomato based products for this anti oxidant. Nutritionists and other health professionals have long advocated the cancer preventative benefits of a diet high in fruits and vegetables.

.
Lycopene: The Facts
.
Lycopene is an open-chain unsaturated carotenoid that imparts red colour to tomatoes.
Lycopene is a proven anti-oxidant that may lower the risk of certain diseases including cancer and heart disease.
The health benefits of lycopene can be enjoyed by drinking as little as 540 mL
In the body, lycopene is deposited in the liver, lungs, prostate gland, colon and skin. Its concentration in body tissues tends to be higher than all other carotenoids.
Regular high consumption of fruits and vegetables is recommended as part of healthy eating. Epidemiological studies have shown that high intake of lycopene-containing vegetables is inversely associated with the incidence of certain types of cancer. For example, habitual intake of tomato products has been found to decrease the risk of cancer of the digestive tract among Italians.
In one six-year study by Harvard Medical School and Harvard School of Public Health, the diets of more than 47,000 men were studied. Of 46 fruits and vegetables evaluated, only the tomato products (which contain large quantities of lycopene) showed a measurable relationship to reduce prostate cancer risk. As consumption of tomato products increased, levels of lycopene in the blood increased, and the risk for prostate cancer decreased. The study also showed that the heat processing of tomatoes and tomato products increases lycopene?s bioavailability.
Ongoing research suggests that lycopene can reduce the risk of macular degenerative disease, serum lipid oxidation and cancers of the lung, bladder, cervix and skin.
Studies are underway to investigate other potential benefits of lycopene - including the H.J. Heinz Company sponsored research at the University of Toronto and at the American Health Foundation. These studies will focus on lycopene's potential in the fight against cancers of the digestive tract, breast and prostate cancer.

Hey Gang...hope everybody is having a great weekend. Since I have a long day scheduled tomorrow, I'm going to post my Monday recipe now.

Salmon Cakes
1 pkg of Bumble Bee Premium Wild Salmon
1/2 medium bell pepper chopped
1/4 onion chopped
1/4 c Hellmann's Mayo (I use the Canola oil blend or reduced fat)
1/4 c unflavored bread crumbs
1 tsp seasoned salt or garlic salt
1 tbs red hot sauce
1 egg
1 tbs Smart Balance light

Mix all ingredients together except for the Smart Balance and 1/2 of the bread crumbs. Split mixture into 4 - roll into balls - roll in remaining bread crumbs and gently flatten. Cook over medium heat in Smart Balance until golden on both sides.

Makes 4 servings

Because this is relatively high in fat (mostly the 'good' kind but still fat) I usually have the salmon cake with a huge fluffy garden salad with ff dressing and a slice of whole wheat bread.

Good afternoon everyone!!

I hope everyone is having a wonderfully healthy and active day today. Today is my normal weigh in day and I lost 2 lbs. I will weigh in again on Friday for the challenge. I'm hoping for an additional 2 lbs. That's what I'm shooting for. I averaged over 5,300 steps last week for the Woman's Challenge I'm doing with another team. I also did 3 days of WATP workouts. I'm sure that is what has helped me to lose the 2 lbs.

I hope everyone is following their food and exercise plans today. Remember to never give up. If you haven't exercised in awhile, then take baby steps at first and work your way up. You can do this!!!

Okay Ladies finally a recipe from Tracy that contains more than one serving....I've brought this to dinner at a friend's house and they loved it. I have it posted on sparkrecipies.com but it hasn't made it over to the "regular" recipe section of the site. If you are feeling crazy go give it a rating. It currently has a 4.4 (9 ratings) so I know that someone besides me likes it. It makes 8 servings under 200 calories each serving.

Strawberry Meringue Pie
30 Minutes to Prepare and Cook

Ingredients

Canola Oil Cooking Spray
1 Cup Graham Cracker Crumbs
4 Cups Sliced Strawberries
1 Cup plus 2 Tbsp sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1 envelope unflavored gelatin
1.5 tso vanilla extract
1/2 cup pasteurized egg whites
1/4 tsp cream of tartar

Directions
Heat oven to 375.
Coat 9 inch pie pan with cooking spray.
Pour in crumbs to form an even layer.
Bake 15 Minutes.
In a medium pan over medium heat - Mash 2 cups of berries with 1 cup sugar and 1/4 tsp salt. Bring to a boil. Stir.
Add gelatin - stir until dissolved.
Remove from heat.
Add 1tsp vanilla and remaining 2 cups of berries.
Mix egg whites and cream of tartar in a bowl.
Beat until soft peaks form.
Add remaining 2 Tbsp of sugar and 1/2 tsp vanilla
Beat until stiff.
Spoon berries into piecrust.
Top with Meringue.
Bake 12 minutes.
Cool - refrigerate at least 3 hours.

** note: you can use splenda in place of the sugar on the berries to lower the sugar content. However, I found the meringue still needs the sugar to come out 'just right'

Have a great Sunday all

Leah, I'm so sorry that you have been ill all week. Boy, that doesn't sound fun at all. Please be careful with your food and exercise while you're recuperating. I'll send a prayer up for you that you have a fast recovery. Also, thank you so much for your kind words. It really means alot to me.

Leslie, it's nice to me you. Thank you for the Apple challenge. You know I totally forgot about the apples that I bought last week. I'm definitely going to have one in a little while. That was alot of great information. I really didn't know that having an apple a day would also help with Type II diabetes. I found out I was diabetic last September. I'm determined to get off the glucophlage I have to take every day.

I hope everyone is having a great day today. Are you eating healthy foods? Are you exercising? Hopefully, you're doing both and having a wonderful day with your family. Let's be good examples for our families and show them how healthy we can be. I know my son is finally starting to take a queue from me and chosing healthier foods over the junk food he usually eats. He still has his treats from time to time, but for the most part he is chosing healthy. That makes me feel good.

I've been watching racing programs all day. The Nextel Cup All Star race is on tonight. So I will be watching that as well. Hope Dale Jr. will win.

Have a great day!!!

FRUIT/VEGGIE CHALLENGE FOR SATURDAY:

"An Apple a Day Keeps the Doctor Away..."

My challenge for you for this week is to consider working in an apple a day! I have started doing this and I have found that it helps with hunger, digestive regulation and it also satisfies my urge for something crunchy. I go for the smaller Rome/Gala apples and get them by the bag and have them in a bowl on my counter. This is nature's "fast food" so start thinking about working them in!

Here are some reasons why to start regularly eating apples... (Courtesy of http://www.chm.bris.ac.uk/webprojects2003/lim/Appleweb2003/beniapple.htm)

There are many benefits from eating apples. "A apple a day keeps the doctor away" has an increasing number of supportive scientific evidences for its claim. It has been found that eating apples helps to reduce blood cholesterol, improve bowel function, reduce risk of stroke, prostate cancer, Type II diabetes and asthma. This is due to the fibre and phytonutrients present in the apples.

Recent researches have shown that eating apples are linked to reducing cancer risk in several studies. Some examples are :

Quercetin, a flavonoid abundant in apples has been found to help prevent the growth of prostate cancer cells
Phytonutrients in the skin of apples inhibited the growth of colon cancer cells by 43%
Food containing flavonoids like those in apples may reduce risk of lung cancer as much as 50%
Dietary phenolics such as flavonoids (found in apples) have inhibitory effects on the developments of carcinogenic substances in the bladder, thereby reducing risk of bladder cancer, especially in smokers
Moreover, eating apples could improve lung function and reduce the risk of respiratory diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) due to antioxidants present in apples that would counter the oxygen's damaging effects on the body as well as the flavonoids such as catechins (present in apples and tea).

In addition, studies have shown that a diet rich in apples could help to lower the blood cholesterol level. Pectin, a soluble fibre found in apples has been thought to play a significant role in this. In fact, apple juice has been found to inhibit the oxidation of a harm form of cholesterol (LDL, or low-density lipoprotein).

Besides therapeutic benefits, apples are also found to play a role in inhibiting ageing-related problems, preventing wrinkles and promoting hair growth (due to compound named procyanidin B-2).

For those weight-watchers, this is good new as pples are delicious source of dietary fibre and helps to aid digestion and promote weight loss.

So.... lets start crunching and lets get burning!!! :) :) :)

Happy Saturday everyone!! Sorry I've been short on the posts but I've been a little under the weather this week. Saw the doctor on Wednesday and turns out I have a partial bowel obstruction, I've been having some pain and trouble with my tummy, so the eating and exercise haven't been up to par. I'm having some more investigations done and hopefully I'll be back to normal soon!

Sorry to hear that you are having some troubles Rachel, I'll say an extra prayer for you today. And congrats on the haircut, I bet it looks fantastic!

Tracy, the nacho pizza sounds great. When my tummy problems settle down, I'll definitely be trying that. Right now I'm sticking to a pretty bland diet. Can't wait to spice it up!!

Lainie, as always, your words are inspirational. Your friends and family are so lucky to have someone who is such a positive influence in their lives. I know we have all benefitted from having you as part of this team.......thanks!!

Janea, if weighing in everyday works for you, you go for it girl. I think that if it's going to keep you motivated then it can't be a bad thing.

Sassy has come up with some great challenges and I am going to do my best to keep up with them. Good luck to all of you with these!

As for the girls who haven't checked in, I'm sure they are just having too much fun with their families this weekend, and families have to come first....We're looking forward to hearing from you though!

Alright girls, we have until Friday before this challenge ends. Let's get down to some serious weight busting!!! Good Luck today!! Leah

I posted a couple of new pictures of me in my album, they kinda show my hair style. It's not much different than before, just shorter, and long layers. Feels so good. If you see the earlier pictures of me, you can see the difference in the length.

Thank you so much for you thoughts and prayers, they are greatly appreciated. Even my parents were so overwhelmed when I told them how so many ladies were praying for our family. It means so much!

Tracy, another yummy recipe. I don't have any whole wheat pita bread, but I do have whole wheat tortillas. I guess I could use the tortillas instead.

Rachel, I'm sorry you're going through so much right now. Make sure you take time for yourself. I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. Oh, almost forgot to ask, did you take pictures of your new hair style. I would love to see it. Let us know when you post it on your spark page.

Good morning everyone!!!

Here's a motivational quote for the day:

"Don't be fooled by the calendar. There are only as many days in the year as you make use of."

So, even though we only have a week for this challenge, we need to make the most of these 7 days. Make sure you are tracking your food, water, and exercise every day. We want to stay in those ranges each day. Let's take advantage of Sassy's great challenges this weekend. I know I am. We did great the last two weeks with this team. I know we can continue and make this the best team.

If you feel that you are getting off track and need extra support, please come here and post. I will be checking this thread throughout the whole day and will help you get through it. That's what these teams are all about, the extra support and motivation you get from people who are going through the same thing you are or something similar. Take advantage of us every day.

If you feel the need to weigh yourself every day to make sure you are staying on track, then do so. It helps some people to weigh every day. I usually only weigh once a week, but with the Bring It On challenge, I've been weighing twice a week. So do what you feel you need to lose weight this week.

Positive thinking. I am a firm believer in positive thinking. We are going to win this challenge. We are all going to have a loss this week. It doesn't matter how much the loss. Our goal is to not gain weight this week. We can do it!!!!!

Let's have a wonderfully healthy day today, Ladies. We can do it!!!

Hi Ladies,

Happy Saturday. Here's a quick, healthy, yummy lunch idea. (I picked it up from a WW meeting years ago)

Pita "nacho" Pizza

1 whole wheat pita (the 6" size)
3 TBS Salsa (I like Newman's Own, Pace, or Homemade)
1 oz shredded Mexican Mix low fat cheese (Kraft makes one using 2% milk
Black Beans
Jalapeno slices

Very complicated instructions now:

Toast Pita on light setting, spread Salsa over Pita, top with black beans, cheese, and jalapenos. (I've tried black beans over the cheese and they roll off so I put them under).

Pop in the toaster oven at 325 for about 8 minutes. Cut in 4's and enjoy with some baby carrots.

Got some fiber, protein, and veggies with little clean up.

I'm single but I have made these while watching friend's kids and they loved them (sans jalepenos) so I know they are family friendly.

Have a great Saturday!

-Tracy

Good Morning everyone!!

Sorry I haven't posted as much as usual. I have had a rough couple of days, and this next week is going to be very stressful. But, I have all you here to keep me on track! The last thing I need is to start stress eating after doing so good.

I did not get my manicure as my reward. Come to find out, the place I usually go is currently closed, and relocating! Now that just sucks, lol. I did not want to go to the nail place in the mall, they did a really bad job last time I went, and my friend got athlete's foot getting a pedicure there. Soooo, I got my hair cut for the first time in 2 years! I got 6 inches cut off, and got a long layer, it looks so good, and healthy too. It feels lighter, and I love it!

Janea had mentioned to me about weighing in everyday, and posting it here. If it will keep you motivated and on track to weigh-in everyday, by all means, go for it, and I will keep track of it. Just remember though, the most important weigh-in will be this Friday! Make sure I get those weights to Laura by Friday night!! :D

I hope everyone has a great day today!!!!

Oh, and thanks to Tracy for the great snack idea, sounds so yummy, and Sassy, as usual you have picked some great challenges! Those challenges keep me going!

Good Morning SWB!

Hope everyone is doing well! Have a great weekend!

Lets see... We haven't heard from DUNNHORN and Angie. I will send them a little reminder to join us. We need to get started. We only have 7 days.

That was a great sounding snack Tracy! Can't wait to try it. Keep up the great work!

Sassy let us 3 challenges, be sure to check them out and do your best! Anything is better than nothing!

I guess that is all I can think of right now, if you have any suggestions please post them. Great minds think alike!

Happy Saturday!

Hi All,

Sorry for getting the post out so late. Food Guru, huh? Okay.

Snack Tip: For a sweet chocolatey treat that has some substance and is beyond easy you need 1 banana and one packet of sugar free or no sugar added hot chocolate mix. Peel banana, dip in mix, bite banana, chew, swallow and repeat. I've found that one packet of cocoa mix can last 3 - 4 bananas.

Okay time for bed...need to dream up some more goodies for you all.

Welcome to our 2 newest team members. You have become members in one of the most suportive groups on spark people. We were very successful in the last challenge and I have no doubt that we will be as equally successful in this one. I have been very proud to be a member of this team and I think that the two of you will feel the same way. Welcome aboard!!

Hi Team!

Just wanted to stop by and give you all some information.

The MMDC starts tomorrow! We need to start organizing our plan to win. We also will probally be getting a few new members on our team. So please make them feel welcome.

All of us already know what role we play, so when we do get new members we will just add them to our roles. We will have 2 people giving daily recipes, 1 giving an daily exercise challenge, 1 giving a motivational challenge, 1 giving fruit/veggie challenge, etc..

Remember to post your weigh in like this:

Username
SW - xxlbs
CW - xxlbs
TPL/G - xxlbs

We all need to work together to win this challenge also! What a great way to start Memorial Day, a new outfit or workout clothes?

So I am assuming that a new peice of clothing will be our reward? Any more ideas?

I will post the rules of the challenge when Laura posts them!

Good Luck SWB!!! Lets make it 2 in a row!!!
We can win this one... Lets do this!

Gather all your strength and muscle and lets rock their socks off!

Starting thinking now. Please post when you get a extra moment.

Happy Thursday! (TGIF SOON!)

Janea

Good morning reigning champions!! I have started a new thread for this challenge. Your new team roster is located on the sticky thread.

Reminder -- I will need everyone's weigh in today. Anyone's I don't have by the end of the day, I'll be using their total on their ticker. Good luck ladies!
