July has been tough on some of the sparkers... I hope that with August approaching, Erin and Jaycee will be able to get back into full swing.

Yay Jaycee, that's great news!

I was feeling so proud of myself yesterday because I took the stairs a lot and wasn't huffing...but I am SOOOOOO sore today! Wow, guess I really don't use the stairs as much as I'd thought. I tend to take them down but use the elevator to go up...working on that!

As this is the last day of the month, thought I'd post today. I feel like the start of the month was productive, but my injury definitely put a little crimp in my schedule. I'm back on the bike though, so things are looking up. The pain has definitely gotten better in my knee and my back sprain definitely feels a bit better today. :)
I've had some cheats this month (as far as forbidden foods), but I'm losing weight anyways. I think I finally got over my weight loss hurdle and I'm on the downhill again which is good.
I hope everyone is still kicking butt with their goals!

Still resting my leg, which means no volleyball tonight. I did bike in though, so at least I'm not cranky today. LOL
Anyways, Hoping to be completely healed soon. Definitely not totally healed yet, but it does feel a bit better.

Ursula! Now that would get your attention! Kids. But I think I will go tell mine about sparkteens! I would much rather that than facebook.

So my leg is still bugging a bit, but it's definitely feeling a bit better. I did bike in to work and bike home yesterday. Best I've felt in a week (since I took a week off all exercise!).
I have a cross town appt. today so I didn't bike in, but planning on biking the rest of the week. :)

They keeps us working for the top of our game, don't they? My daughter's always been closer to her dad but she's been sweet lately. Bragging about my weight loss to her friends (several are joining sparkteens because of her) and chewing out my husband for not reacting positively enough to my new dress, commenting on how cool an outfit looks on me. Gotta understand, this is the child who, when watching me try on a lacy black nightie a few year back, told her best friend through the door I looked like Ursula from The Little Mermaid...

Hello everyone! Jaycee - very glad to see you - but I am sorry to hear of the leg. I hope it feels better soon.

I did my workout that my trainer gave me on Monday and did MUCH better (at least I was not crying at the end of it today - how very embarassing! She tried to make me feel better by telling me I must have gotten my money's worth in that I could not possibly have worked any harder....but that didn't help much...Hopefully not too many people were paying attention!)

Anyway - Hope all is well with all of you and I will check in with you tomorrow!

Finding out that with just a little over 20 lbs lost I'm sleeping better, going to bed earlier, getting up earlier and have more energy. I've been walking short distances most days and trying to go to my mobile home park's pool every once in a while. I went today at 11am and no one was there, so may try that through the summer. I get my walking in and then do my version of water resistance exercises. Printed up some actual ones today so will try them. I'm still not losing as fast as I want, but am losing, so will keep on keeping on. Goal is to be down to 115 by 10 Jan I think, but don't think I'll make that.

Anyway I am very happy that I discovered SP and the great teams and wonderful people that help each other and the friends I'm making.

I wish I could find some over 50 ladies to walk with around the Foothill Farms area. Only one has stepped up. Now we have to find a safe place to walk after dark. I'm not a morning person so I walk when it is dark and cooler.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful summer and meeting friends and goals (even small ones).

Hugs, Joan

Sorry I've went MIA again. I've been ultra busy and hadn't had a chance to come online and post.
So last Saturday was the Eppie's. I did the cycling portion for our team. We finished 13th out of 26 in our division and 450 out of 5000(rough) overall, so I thought we did pretty good. I passed lots of people on the trail except the "iron man" looking dudes that were passing me up. LOL
So, I haven't been able to work out the last two days as my leg has been killing me. In fact I'm going to the dr. today (my appt is 11:20) to have it looked at. I've been playing through the pain for the most part, but it's gotten to the point that 2.5 weeks later it's still hurting. Especially walking and going up stairs. The oddest part is that once I've warmed up it stops hurting until I slow up again. Not sure but I'm thinking shin splints???
I will post an update when I find out what's up.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I will be back playing volleyball by Sunday.
On other note, my weight is coming down again. I actually weighed in at 164 recently, but I'm averaging 167 (I used to average 172 but sometimes would weigh in at 167), so I think it's pretty solid loss now.
I'm signed up for my fitness classes through ARC again for the fall. I'm taking volleyball on Sundays (that one's actually at SCC), kickboxing on T TH and I'm waitlisted for swimming on MW (not sure why I wouldn't be added for that one though, so sure it will work out). I was originally slated to take a dance course, but it got cancelled due to budget cuts. :( But I'm looking forward to swimming again. It's been a while since I was able to do some lap swimming. :)
I hope everyone is doing good and sorry for the long post! I suppose I've been busy! LOL

I got halfway through my six miles the other night and part of me was wanting to kvetch about the heat. Then I reminded myself that, ONE: it was considerably cooler than the night before and TWO: how often do we spend the end of July in the 90s here?
It may be hot but I'm trying to remember to count my blessings. I grew up in the Redding/Red Bluff area during a time when 112 was an average summer temp up there.
I don't always succeed in convincing my body that "It ain't that bad" but I'm trying...

At the Russian River this week, renting a house with my ILs. Not eating great, but not pigging out either - just carbing more than I should. Paul went along with MIL to do the shopping, so at least he kept her from buying the most egregious stuff (like those wicked enormous Costco muffins!). But I've been getting up and walking every day, nice and cool and foggy here in the mornings. :-)

I did 6 miles last night. I'm chugging away at my half marathon training program. Since I have about 11 weeks to go and I'm on week 6 of the program, I'm repeating weeks here and there to build stamina and fill the time. I'm glad it was cooler last night. Made those 6 miles much easier. Now if only I'd remember to drink that hour-before bottle of water...

Hey there!

Today was my session with my trainer. Very very tough. Did not hold up too well! But I got through...sort of. Next week will be better. HAD to have been an insane calorie burn.

I'm going to get back to tracking my food again...did it today. How are you all about keeping up with that?

Hope you are all well!!

Hey Vivian - I missed your previous message on the needle thread (get it?:) I put an update there as well.

It was good and on my to do list for this weekend. I think that it has possibilities. There are a lot of little tricks she gave me for day-to-day focus and tension reducing. Accordingly I have certainly slept better this week! now as far as the treatments stimulating metabolism or anything, I really don't know. But sleeping well is important too.

I will keep you posted! I definitely liked having it done. Weirdly tranquilizing.

Check - I have my water right here! I have had a lot of stuff that has had to get done this week and accordingly have not worked out except for Monday, BUT Monday was both an hour with my trainer and and hour of yoga. In order to claim even three days of workouts this week I guess I know what I'm doing Sat and Sun!

How did everyone's week go?

Franclyn - you ROCK!!! I am amazed that you can do a heathly camping trip with non-sparkers. And, for the margarine, hey, you were burning cals left and right. The trout would be worth it.

Hey Jodi - are you back? I left my laptop at the office over the weekend, which is GREAT except for checking in here! I had a not-so-good week last week for workouts. But, my acupuncture appt was Saturday. I really liked it. Cannot quite put my finger on why that would be, and yet, there we are.

I went to my training session today and then an hour of yoga. I think I like yoga! I tried it just 2 weeks ago.

Talk to you all soon!

Just got back from a weeklong camping trip (see my blogs) and am in recovery mode. There were nine of us and only I am on a truly healthy eating track. Thankfully I got volunteered to both purchase and prepare the food. I will adjust my purchases next time - Dad cares more about it being a just-add-water pancake mix than the actual brand (hello Fiber One mix) - and slap my BIL's hand more often (he kept seasoning things I'd already seasoned).
Lots of water. Lots of fiber. Steady exercise that involves sweating. I'll clean out the junk soon enough. I'll just have to suffer through the few days of breaking out. I couldn't resist the German Brown Trout in spite of the fact they cooked it with large amounts of margarine and my face is suffering for it.

I must have done okay though since I came home to find I'd finally broken the 70 pounds lost mark!! I get to have my wedding ring repaired and sized down!

Well I got some good walking in today and my knees didn't bother me.

Went to Sunrise mall to see a movie, have lunch and walk the mall. Couldn't hear the movie and they had a set of head-phone but they didn't work. So I'll catch the movie later on PPV.

I was so happy, I walked the whole mall with stop at stores and didn't have to sit down once (except) for lunch. Wow. I did have a Taco Bell Chalupa so ruined my "no fast food for lunch" streak, but counted the calories and it was good. Haven't had any fast food in months. We do need a treat every once in a while. I did pass up going in to Sees Candies. So I was proud of myself.

Hope everyone has a great week-end.

WATCHMELOSE80 I hope your daughter's team won and that you had a nice time.

Suzy - How was your trip? I haven't gotten in any exercise the last couple of days. I have been in a bit of a funk lately and am really trying to get myself out of it. My daughter has a softball tournament in Incline Village this weekend, so that is where I will be until late Sunday. I am hoping to get some activity in up there and take advantage of the gym at the hotel.

Shasta - emoticon on the weight loss! Keep it up!

Happy Wednesday. Hope you all are having a good week.

Sitting for 3 dogs today and the Shepherd puppy (90 lbs) has already ruined my sandals. He was lying in front of me and I knew he was chewing on something. It didn't sound right, so I checked and he already had a piece chewed off!! $95. Hope the owners will reimburse me. He even chews their walls!!

Been doing some water resistance exercises and a bit of walking. Didn't take a nap yesterday. LOL.

Down to 180.4. Hadn't lost in about 3 wks. Hope it stays off and that I'm even lower by Sunday.

Still looking for a slow person or two to walk with me in or around the Foothill Farms area.

We CAN do it!

Hugs, Joan

Hello All!

Today was not a workout day and I am very much enjoying my evening on the patio! What a beautiful night. And, even better, one notices....cannot snack easily when typing. This is GOOD! Talk to you all soon...Tennis scheduled for tomorrow.

Jaycee - good deal on the Eppies race! I saw the flyer and thought about trying to participate but the logisitics just didn't come together. Maybe next year! Looks like fun.

Hi All!
Sorry I've been MIA for a bit. I'm still doing good with fitness and all. I started dating this guy and he's keeping me quite busy, especially for the 4th of July. He took me to point Richmond (bay area) to watch the fireworks as the east bay orchestra played. Totally amazing.
So I'm playing lots of volleyball and peppered in the park yesterday. Also lots of cycling.
I'm also doing the biking portion of the Eppie's on Saturday the 19th (I will be the dork with a hot pink cape thing on, LOL)
Anyways, Glad to see more people checking in!

Jaycee

Hello everyone....

Just checking in. I hope you are all having a great Monday. My husband had all of last week off and so we did a lot of nothing for a week. I agree that Mondays are hard especially after a holiday!

Good luck with the apartment search. I am hoping to be doing that with my sister soon. She has been living with us for almost two years and I am ready for her to go.

Well, I hear the laundry calling.

I check most days, though I don't always post. :-)

Back to the grind after a nice holiday weekend...this will be my first five-day work week since my daughter was born in 2004! I'll miss my Mommy Fridays, but Paul and I now have four furlough days a month between us (he's a state employee, I'm a legislative employee), so part-time is really no longer an option.

I reply to most of the posts and try to huddle every day.

It's tough being back at work after spending a week away from here.

Good luck to your cousin. Check out apts at Madison and Garfield, they might have a 1 bed at that price.

Don't wear yourselfs out. Eat at Fresh Choice, Madison and Sunrise. Great for Spark People.

Morning all! Just got hubby off to work, so checking in with my SparkTeams.

Today my cousin Alma & I will start to look for duplex/apartment rental in $850/month range in Carmichael, Citrus Heights & Orangevale communities, so prayers and positive thoughts for her would be appreciated.

Her hubby passed in February and after all things were settled she was advised that she would not be receiving hubby's widow/survivor benefit (sad story)... so now has to sell her home and find apt or duplex based on her very limited income.

We will obviously be walking around a lot today.

TaTa,

I don't think many do, which is too bad. I will make a point every day to check the msg boards. I may not reply to all, still. I will also huddle every day.

I would like to walk, although I'd prefer to walk in Foothill Farms or surrounding areas, rather than down-town. Also, because of knee problems, I can't walk fast or long. Hope someone will be willing to walk with me even so.
