3oz with skin is "one banana" when counting fruits. It isn't a lot so I tend not to choose bananas as one of my 2 fruits a day.

I like any apple that is hard and sweet. On my exchange plan one apple = 4 oz, so a "normal" sized apple is really two fruits, and I only get two fruits per day unless I want to spend one of my 3 bonus selections on fruit.

I don't know if that is a cup of cooked or dry barley, but a cup of dry barley makes a LOT of barley. I use it in cold weather soups. I love the way it creams up the liquid. It has gluten which makes it a problem for celiac patients, but I have always loved barley.

Chick Peas are one of my favorite pantry staples. I enjoy them in a variety of ways (in hummus, chili, soups, bean dip, salads, or just plain). They're a versatile ingredient to have on hand.

One cup of dry rice is a LOT of cooked rice. 1/2 cup cooked usually comes to about 3/4 oz dry, which equals one bread exchange. Which in this case is one serving.

Viv, What happens when you cook the Brown rice? Does it take some of the protein away or add? I do eat brown rice now instead of white since I have been on Spark.
