Hey there. There's no set number and no notion of "holding the team back". This is just for support and to give ourselves that extra push. Just try to check in as often as possible (daily is plenty). If you did zero minutes one day, don't be afraid to say so. There will be a couple of days a week when I do that. But it can also be helpful to say why you didn't do any so your teammates can help you with an off day (whether it be for physical or mental reasons!).

As for getting points on SparkPeople, either go to the "fitness tracker" on the start page or go to "view sparkponts" on the upper right of any page. And then click on "track cardio minutes" (second from the top). There you can enter your time for preprogrammed exercises (walking is one of them) or enter your own. If this is too fiddly for you, just divide your minutes by five for your points (Spark gives us one point for every five minutes of cardio that we do).

This is for ourselves; for motivation, support, and fun. Consider yourself signed on. I'm posting the team rosters tonight over on the main Billy Ray v. Elvis thread.

I was really interested in the Elvis v Billy Ray challenge but I wondered how much cardio you needed to do to not hold a team back. Also how do you acquire the sparks point for every 5 min. I do 30-60 minutes walking 5 days a week. Would I qualify for a team? Thanks!

Cool! Thanks Suz. I'll start up the thread a couple of days before November to make sure everyone that's interested knows it's happening (with a more obvious title than "Anyone up for...") and then split up teams and make sure all the "rules" work for everybody.

Was thinking about what the "prize" should be (besides bragging rights, of course) and the only thing I can come up with is the winning team getting to choose a new team image/avatar. Thoughts? Another option is that they get to come up with the all important December challenge - something do-able. We're not saints here! But it still might help with all the seasonal stuffing.

Totally took care of the forums...although I'm not sure I understand what a mini-streak is.

And, like I said on the Challenges Forum, I'd love to be a part of the cardio challenge AND I need to be on the Billy Ray team (I was the queen of the mullet until age 13).

Right. I say we start it on 1 November for convenience sake. And maybe by then well have a little section for it if Suz has the option to make it. Plus it gives a chance to see who's in what team. I'm thinking a musical theme; Elvises ( emoticon ) v. Billy Rays (as in Cyrus emoticon ). Anyone else have any ideas?

well I have done 60 mins of fast walking and about to do 5 mins jogging on a trampet so I think I have covred my cardio for today

(when you add in the hoovering the house, and mowing the lawn in which the grass was long enough to hide elephants!!!)

I'm not sure those were available options when this team was started. Suz started the team but is really busy right now and doesn't get to log on as much as she'd like so I'm not sure when she'll stumble onto this thread. I'll contact her and let her know we're wondering about that stuff.

When the team leader created the team they should have challenges and mini streaks as a category - in there go all the daily / weekly challenges and mini streaks!

Ha! Fair enough. I've been doing great on the water. Just forgot to post. In some of the other teams they have a seperate forum section for games and challenges that make them easier to keep track of. I tried to do that with this one, but didn;t know how. Maybe only the team leader can do new forum catagories.

If anybody else is interested, just let me know, or if you'd like it to not start until November.

And about the research, honestly you can find research to show a contraditing opinion on anything, believe me. I usually take all of it with a pinch of salt. I know too many friends who do it that are subconsciously influenced by funders, grant people, their own prejudices. We're all human. To be honest I picked cardio strictly becuse I want to up my endurance and yes, ZAP THAT FAT! Good luck with your other challenges!

well I have started a pedometer challenge in one of my groups - sa it's all a bit new and some of us are in our 40's + I have set them a target of getting 5,000 steps on their pedometers. Research has shown that the number of steps per day (at 10,000) is better for you than 30mins of cardio - scary or what!

Plus there is the water challenge -hope you are joining in that again - 16 x 8 floz glasses...

getting your 5 a day fruit n veg is another one - so I may get challenged out at this rate!!!

I suppose it's more just about being consistant, say if we had a month-long challenge that it averaged out to a few minutes each day. I'm not takling 60-90 minutes here, either! If enough people are interested, we can divide into two teams and post our minutes and points (SP gives you 1 point for every five minutes) daily (no shame in poting a "no points day".) And them maybe come up with some kind of prize at the end (I'll have to think about that.) I'm fairly competitive, which is what I'm trying to harness for that added oomph.

P.S. - The weekend was great!

I figure we can use this thread to throw around ideas for challenges and mini-goals etc.

Sooooo, is anyone up for a cardio challenge? My other team is doing a cardio challenge (divided into teams, posting daily cardio SparkPoints, etc.)but I missed the start of it. We can make it up if enough people are interested.I need extra motivation for my current mini-challenge (as per yesterday's blog)!

PS While I am excited about our #14 status, I'm not actually excited enough about it to huddle three times! Happened because I kept trying to go back a page and sending postdata.
