Yeah, about that... Skinny's got hella debt from school and also kinda supports his mom (financially only!) so he doesn't have much left over. To him it was more important to own land, which he does (30 acres). After buying that all he could afford was a trailer, which, in it's defense is brand new and is a lot nicer than most houses here. My only complaint is that it feels like a school bus sometimes cause it's so long and the windows ARE school bus windows. Also, the blinds are hideous (could have come right from a camping trailer), but that can be easily fixed as he's got an interior designer in the family. And the windows can be replaced. Other than that the only problem is that it's a trailer :P But if I had a storm shelter I'd be fine. It's not a hard sell with him, as he sees it as a good place to preserve his veggies from his garden (while I see it as a good place to preserve ME!). The only problem with that is it's hella expensive. In some states FEMA will pay up to half the cost but not in Texas :( We haven't priced one out yet but I'm thinking minimum 5000$. I am debt free (thank you mom and dad!) but we make such pathetic salaries it's hard to get ahead. I took this job on a matter of principle, not to get rich and sometimes I need to remind myself of that. However, once I stop paying rent (i.e. move in with him) things will look nicer.

As for leaving this place, sign me up! I hate this town and so does he. HOWEVER, we have cool jobs, and he has his dream job that doesn't exist elsewhere. So I'll ride it out for a while, see if I can survive another Texas summer (although this year is anything but ordinary) before I decide anything. Because this area sucks so bad it'd very hard to sell a house, no one wants to live here. So building one wouldn't be a wise investment. Added to that, there is a wind farm being built all around (and HOPEFULLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! on) skinny's acreage. I don't know how a person would live in the middle of one of those, as the towers are HUGE! So building a house there now REALLY wouldn't make sense! If he gets a tower on his land he gets paid at least 1000$ each month from it... sweeeeeeeeeet! They're still in the surveying stage so not sure if he's getting one yet.

Wow, way more detail than I intended on going into! Sorry bout that! I've gotta get packing!!! We leave for home at 8 am! Woo hoo!

Haha yah...well he did have cold feet. Funny thing is now a year later I think he'd be ready to marry before I would hahaa. Seriously though my dad needs a better job before I get married. His company closed down and instead of finding a job making a similar salary to what he did before (I'd guess about 60k) he's working retail because he's "tired of the rat race." How about you want to retire and can deal w/ it a few more years?? Silly mid life crisis, but yat that would make for one skimpy budget on a wedding because I certainly don't have any savings, hi I just bought a house a year ago... haha! But yah anyway I'm glad things are all better.

Trailor? Seriously I would have a tough time w/ that. And I think God made tornados for population control of people in trailor parks because many (in the midwest and prob .CA too) are not too bright. I think in TX it's just a way of life for a lot of people and doesn't carry the same level of importance like it does elsewhere. You and Skinny would have to find a different place fo sh0! And what kinda excuse is it not to get a real house because you'll move when you're retired??? I'm sure I won't have the same house then...would be surprised if I did. Most people upgrade over time and sell and buy bigger. No excuse! :) Ok time to go home! I'm taking tomorrow off to work on my car w/ Gramps!

Mar: That's a good thing that he was paying from the beginning then. At least he's a stand-up guy all around in that aspect. Sounds like he got a nasty case of cold feet, tho. Silly men. Don't they realize that we DON'T need them to marry us and support us anymore???? We can actually do that all by ourselves now. We just like to have them around for entertainment purposes only. Oh my, Shannon. What a quandry! I know what you mean about the trailer thing. Maybe you could approach it by saying that you're fine w/ your place, but if he's serious about moving in together, you want it to be a place you pick out together. Then you can veto all trailer homes and "gently" sway him toward your point of view. Sometimes men don't really know what they want till you tell them what they want. LOLOL Boy, that doesn't sound overbearing or anything! LOL

Wow Candis, better hang onto that gold mine! Skinny boyfriend actually keeps his place cleaner than I keep mine, and cooks more than I do. Of course, he owns his place, which makes a difference in how you treat it, I think. He's ready for me to move in but I'm not - we haven't even known eachother a year! And if I move in, that means I'm staying in Texas... I dunno if I can stomach that! One BIG problem is what his home is... mobile.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll be trailer trash! In Texas, living in a trailer appears to be nothing to be ashamed of... but it is in Canada and I still can't let go of that mindset. What am I gonna do? Nevermind living in a trailer, but living in a trailer in freaking tornado alley!? I've laid down the law - I'm not moving in until there's a storm shelter installed! hah hah hah, I guess that's skinny's one fault - his home :P He says he doesn't want to live in a trailer forever, but doesn't want to buy a house here because he's not gonna stay here forever (THANK GOD!). This town blows ass but we've got pretty sweet jobs. The only problem is he doesn't see himself moving until... retirement? He's 32, that's a loooooooooooooooooooooooong time from now.

Ooh that's good that he's totally on board. Well my bf was paying, still does, so money wasn't the problem, it was more that I thought he'd back out any second and leave me w/out the needed money. That's why I originally got roomies (the blow up) but after he came back and apologized it's been a different Matt...for the better. I think he was just overwhelmed thinking it was something much bigger than it was. In fact him moving in and paying me rent was his mom's idea. I dunno if she just wanted him out or didn't want me to have a house in the ghetto. Eitehr way I'm glad cuz I love where I ended up.

Yikes! You would think that he would realize that you can't afford to "support" him. If he was basically living there anyway and not paying his way, that is selfish . . . and mooching. I'm glad that he came around and saw the error of his ways.

My bf is exstatic to move in with me. He'll be paying me a little less in rent, so he'll actually be saving money. Plus, when I start my new job, we will be working about 3 blocks away from each other, so we can carpool (and I get free parking so he won't have to pay for parking anymore). We'll both save some money there. He's already committed himself to certain chores (moving the lawn and other "manly" things). Plus, he has volunteered to do the cooking, too. Seriously, I think I've stumbled upon a gold mine of a man!! LOL

Hopefully he does better than my bf did. My bf "moved in" too but he kept like nearly everything other than a couple changes of clothes and nothing more at his parents' house still. Then because of that and the fact I didn't feel like he wanted to be there really we kinda had a blow up a few months later. All was resolved after a week apart or so and he apologized profusely and realized he did lub me and no it was not some crazy weird super duper commitment to just live there (you'd think he thought I wanted to marry him) and all has been well since. He just had to get over his weird phobia that it was this deep significant commitment. I'm like hi...you're helping pay the bills and we've dated a year... that is all :) But yah, once we got over that hump all was good. Hope yours goes smoother tho! :)

I've definitely mellowed out in the last couple days. The bf is moving in, and I had to deal with his landlord (who happens to be Satan btw). Other than that, no big issues . . . well, not since I got used to the idea of how much this is gonna cost me anyway. LOLOLOL

Thanks for the advice, Lov. Yeah, I'm def. not going to say anything till afterwards. I know the lady at the bank, and I know her through work, so I'm pretty sure that she's confident about my job status. LOL I asked to have that much time till closing b/c I had to give 60 day's notice to my landlord to get out of my lease. I didn't want to have to pay rent and a mortgage. Luckily, they were willing to wait a little.

when i wear my 3" heels i come up to skinny boyfriend's shoulders! he's a full foot taller than me (as you can see on my spark page) so we look pretty stupid together! for a while there his waist was smaller than mine... not cool!!!

Speaking of height. I have a friend (online) from CA that I was supposed to meet in summer of 99, couldn't find him / him me etc at the show we both attended and no cell phones back then for either of us so it didn't happen. Fast forward to this week and he's in Chicago working testing cell towers and he loves my bf's band (had added em a long time ago to his MySpace) so he really wanted to see them play and came up to the show last night. Today he tells me he thought I was taller and that I'm short. I'm about 5'6" so I've never considered myself "short" per se! Anyway he did say I looked great last night and so did my real estate agent Nancy (lead singer's mom). I guess my hard work is paying off right?!?! I should get an updated pic on here.

OH and dont take the new job until you close because the mortgage company needs to beable to call your employer 10 days before closing and make sure you still work there! It is to make sure that you def. have a secure job with a steady paycheck (and therefore still able to afford the mortgage payment stated for you!) :)

You found the perfect home while running!! Thats so funny, and great at the same time! I work for a mortgage company so I know how stressed people can become, end of July is crazy, is it because they need time to fix things agreed upon to fix, or did you find the house the day it went on the market and the sellers had no chance to prepare to move! ha!

Im 5'8 and I wear 3-4 inch heels all the time. I dont care! :) I heart shoes too!

Even tho I'm just shy of 5'6", I love my heels, too. They bring out the tone in my legs, and running sure helps them look snazzy. I don't even care that my higher ones make me taller than my bf. LOL

Creepy repair guy story:

Well, actually it was the cable guy who installed my cable and internet when I moved into my apt a little over a year ago. Apparently he's friends with the apartment managers and must have taken a fancy to me, because the manager told me that he'd always ask when I was out at the pool in my bikini (I was skinnier last summer) so he could come by. That gave me the 'no' feeling!

I wore me some daisy dukes to the home inspection yesterday. lol For some reason, the inspection took almost 6 hours!! hee hee At the very end the guy was offering me free consultations should I ask him to come back about an issue. He explained everything and answered all of my questions (since I'm such a girl and have very little to NO knowledge about most things involved in home ownership). His helper guy was most accommodating for me and my fear of the basement ... and the attic ... and the grass in the yard. LOL

I will definitely have to use my feminine wiles on the repairmen---hopefully, there won't be many, tho. Luckily, the bf has NO issues w/ me using my feminine wiles to the extreme. LOL

When my sewage line backed up from tree roots and a company came out for my home warranty, I realized it wasn't covered and would cost me like $60 more than the copay amt...but they were like don't worry we'll bill it as a "blockage" which was nice. I'm sure I could sweet talk em...just gotta get even more hottie and then it will work like a charm...I'm gettin there!!! I don't have any cool heels but I'm sure they'll save me a ton of money if I invest in some :)

Thanks ladies! I think I'm most excited about getting a dog. FINALLY a dog of my very own. I already know that I'm going to get a boxer (w/ floppy ears, not the tipped ones) and name him Greg.

I'm just waiting for this feeling of "WHAT HAVE I DONE????" to pass. LOLOL

Wow, that certainly does sound like a lot to carry, but I'm sure you'll be able to handle it all! No wonder you'd been so quiet on here! Even though it probably feels overwhelming right now, it's a big step forward in your life and you should be so proud!

Good luck with everything!

Yeah people never tell you about the stress and emotions of a home they just tell you it's so great to be a homeowner. Really it's just more work and money, but the payoff is your neighbors are further away and not stomping on your head when you're trying to sleep :)

Hi, all! Sorry that I've been a little MIA lately. I have so much going on. First, I bought a house last week. I hadn't even been in the market to buy. BUT I saw this very attractive house on my running route that happened to be for sale, and I checked it out online to see what they wanted for it. Then I called the lady at the bank, who told me that I could have it if I wanted it. Then I arranged to see the inside. Alas, I fell in love, so I made an offer right then and there. AND the sellers accepted. The house is in the exact area I wanted to live, has a garage (which is VERY hard to come by in town) but only has one bathroom (don't worry. I'll get over that! lol).

Then the sheer panic set in. I was trying to juggle all of the things that I had to get done -- home inspection, mortgage application, securing homeowners' insurance. The list goes on and on.

In the meantime I received a job offer, for a job that I've wanted for some time. However, I can't act on things too much till my firm does my house closing so that I don't end up holding the bag on that one.

The good news: My nerves have calmed down somewhat (let's just say that I could barely eat or sleep for about 4 days last week). Although it isn't the most healthy way to do it, I've actually lost almost 5 pounds in the past week (even tho I was happy at the weight I was at).

The bad news: I have another 6 weeks of this since my closing isn't until the end of July. Yikes!! LOL
