Amber - I haven't been to Yellowstone in about 17 years - and even then we didn't stop for long. My dad and I drove from PA to WA - by the time we got to Yellowstone, he was ready to be done. I'm jealous - have fun!!

treehugger - yikes! I am not a fan of the heat...

We went camping in the rain this weekend. One of the benefits of camping in the rain - no bugs. We set up camp on high ground, covered our site with tarps, had a huge fire and enjoyed the sound of the river rushing by! The worst part about the trip was the zipper breaking on our tent door - not much sleeping when your worried about animals wandering into your tent.

Hey All! New to the site! But my boyfriend and I are going to be taking a trip to Yellowstone in two weeks! We will be heading in at the north gate in Gardiner, Montana! This is our first time going to Yellowstone! So, if anyone that has been there and has any recommendations on hikes or things to do, let me know! We will be there for a week :) THANKS!

emoticon I went jogging in the sunshine emoticon this morning.
I'm trying to increase my 5k time and train for a 10k. I'd call the last stretch I did actual running rather than jogging - it felt pretty awesome.
We went for a short hike yesterday - it was beautiful.
My hubbs and I are planning another hike for next weekend - an easy hike because we'll most likely have the boys. So excited - I haven't been to Ranier for about 20 years.

I spent Saturday morning on the dock at the lake,Easter egg hunting on Sunday, running on Monday, kicked house-cleaning butt on Tuesday - doors wide open to let in that fresh spring air, and running in the rain yesterday - my longest and most successful run yet!

The weather has been crazy - and by that I mean SUNNY and warm emoticon
It's a bit odd that it has been so nice here. Normally April showers is an understatement, and kids were playing in sprinklers on Sunday and Monday - whaaaat?!

Hope everyone is getting some nice spring weather!

Hi! Running 2 days in a row - the last day of winter and the first day of spring! It was cold yesterday... snow on the ground and everything - it RARELY snows here so I found it a bit amusing that it snowed on the last day of winter. The snow was gone by noon as usual and the temperature was a bit warmer this morning. Anyway - it feels good to get moving in the fresh air!

Hi guys - I wish I could say I've been so extremely busy that I haven't been able to get on and chat but that's not the case. I've been mildly depressed, first hurting my knee kept me down for about 2 weeks and just as it was starting to feel better and I was planning my next run I came down with a creeper cold... started with a sore throat and a fever and slowly worked it's way through congestion and a cough. Now almost 2 weeks in I have laryngitis. All this should have afforded me lots of computer time but I was so bummed I just virtually pouted... I am hopeful to log a run by Thursday - my body and my sanity need it! Hope you all are enduring the winter better than I am.

That sounds wonderful!
Yesterday, we cut down our own Christmas tree. It was so much fun to wander through the field in search of that perfect tree. The boys poked at the ice with sticks and had fun hiding behind trees. We eventually found a great tree and the tree farm had a special so we got a 10 foot Douglas and I get to use the bottom 2 feet of boughs to make wreaths - so pretty! Now for the decorating!!

OK, what did I do outside today, well -- I went for a walk with the dog just after sunset. The moon came out and in no time stood almost overhead. Over half of it was visible and shining such bright light that I could clearly see my path and needed no flashlight to guide me. Plus, there were no overhanging trees to cut the light down. It was cold, but I had bundled up nicely. Far away the subdivisions glimmered on the hillsides. Nearby, farmers' houses and barns twinkled in the cold, newly decorated for the holidays. Not only was it gorgeous, it also was cleansing in a mental, if not spiritual sense. It was as if all stress had fallen of my shoulders when I climbed back into my vehicle.

"Today, a new sun rises for me; everything lives, everything is animated, everything seems to speak to me of my passion, everything invites me to cherish it."

Tonight my husband and I went on a beautiful hike with our pups, Bear & Ten. It was about dusk and its been slightly cloudy here, so it was a little darker than usual. The weather couldn't have been better! There was such a nice breeze and the clouds cooled everything off, it even smelled like rain. The roads were great! Tons of uphill and lots of boulders to balance on. Definitely a great night! emoticon

Saturday was my son's first football game. It was so great to see them play like a team out there! I love it!! After the game we all went roller skating/blading, then over to my in-laws for some shuffleboard - lol - it was a great day.
Sunday we watched the Hawks game (we're a football family - can you tell?) then headed out to the river for some swimming, fishing and just to soak up the last of the warm summer sun.

We went to the cabin again for a family get-together on saturday, baseball game saturday evening, bbq with friends sunday, football practice monday and for the rest of the week.

I'm sorry I've been so sporadic in posting this summer. It has been hard to find time to get on the computer with how much my family has been on the go, especially when my hubby has time off the boat, we really try to take advantage of all the time he's home. We don't often get summer time adventures with him.

I haven't been exercising enough this summer, I've been staying active enough to keep up with some eating slip ups but I haven't made any progress. I'm happy that I've mainntained throughout the summer though!

I hope everyone is having a great summer!

Another lovely get away to the lake... 2 days of heat and 2 days of clouds. Our little cabin on Big Lake is a great place to go when it's hot because you can cool off in the water or just at the end of the dock, but I like it more when it's gray because it is so quiet. The best is when it's snowing. Ahh I think I'm getting ready for the seasons to change.

Today I got up early - watered and fertilized my outdoor plants - did some weeding and mulching - planted a new plant for my mom at her house - then scurried inside as the heat index is rising rapidly here in Iowa and it is super MUGGY!

Are all you other outdoor girls outside having fun?!?

I was all fired to go on my first official bike ride of the summer. Had all my gear out, a new sassy skort on, water, helmet and aired up the tires. Then a gentle breeze started blowing....out of my front tire!! Unfortunately no spare inner tube that would fit my tire and no bike shop open in our town on Sunday.

Had to go for a walk and do a little yard work instead! Dang! Bike rides and me are just not happening this year!

Went to the park with the boys with the intention of jogging but only did one lap before getting a call from my sister - so I walked and talked the rest of the time i was there. emoticon

The boys football season is starting - lots of time outside now! Of course I'd rather be in the woods or the mountains or at the lake but football is fun too. My goal is to continue running 3 times a week taking advantage of my time at the football field. Looking forward to it. I planned to do it last years but never got started - now that I'm already running it just makes my running routine easier. Woohoo!

I'd love to have a recipe. What is your favorite? My "green" smoothie is something I concocted on my own (with inspiration from starbuck's tazo smoothies) green tea sweetened with honey, and frozen berries of choice was my version of the drink, and after hearing about green smoothies I added spinach. Simple and delish! My raw friend uses a protein powder in hers, do you?

Hey everyone! I've been away for a while, but just like Kate, I've been busy (I don't think I'm ever not busy, actually) and not wanting to spend a lot of time on the computer! I've been doing the usual - working, hanging around outside, reading, writing, and a personal favourite - watching Disney movies at night before I go to bed! hahaha. Yesterday was one of my days off so I went hiking with a friend on a KILLER trail we have around here. We actually couldn't go up all the way, though, because we took her dogs (bear season!) and one of them is so fat that there was no way whatsoever he was going to make it to the top. So we came back, but we're going to try and conquer it asap! Then we went kayaking, hung out for a bit, and a few hours later, we did some yoga! It was my very first time doing yoga and it was amazing. It was strength/core yoga and I was literally dripping sweat. So embarassing, but it felt oh so good! I did pretty well, too :D

I've also started a sort of "cleanse". I normally eat really healthily and don't exactly need to, but the 2 or 3 days before I decided to do it were filled with iffy eating habits - I was craving stuff that my body doesn't need (ie. Skittles.. mm) so I decided to help my body out a bit. I don't know if any of you ladies have ever read the book "Green For Life" by Victoria Boutenko, but it's amazing. Long story short, it talks about the INCREDIBLE health benefits of "green" smoothies (think grey hair turning dark again, teeth becoming less sensitive, skin glowing, etc), so I'm doing that for a week. Her family is raw so it's more of a lifestyle thing for them, and I will definitely continue to drink green smoothies, but I'm a foodie and I already miss my cooked food so I will not be doing this forever! Haha. I thought it would be a nice challenge for a week, though, and so far, so good :) If anybody wants some recipes to try it out I can send you some, though I think if you can find the book, you should get it! It's a great read. Very eye-opening.

I'm gonna head outside now - there's sunshine! - but I'll be around! :)

I've been spending a LOT of my outdoor time lately pulling weeds and trimming bushes. Man! are they healthy with all the rain we've been getting. My reward is sitting on my deck gazing at a beautiful yard - plus it's great exercise. (the weeding/trimming NOT the sitting/gazing).

I have not made time to get on my bike yet this spring. Really want to do that soon! emoticon

No rain yet. Fires in Florida are caused by the lightning. Lightning here is AMAZING. Beautiful, powerful and sometimes destructive. When they hit, there is usually a nice rain with them that puts out the burn from the hit.. well lately it is just light rains following.

Today was nice though. Air was clear so I went to the beach with Spot. We walked and swam.. he doesn't like to swim in the ocean too much, bug-eye Boston Terrier, the waves put salt water in them. I carried him past the waves so it wasn't too bad on him.

Been hard to be an Outdoor girl in Florida this past two weeks. I think the state is on fire. I live at the beach and the ocean breeze can't clear the smoke.. it is amazing how bad it is. The fires aren't near my house but the smoke is all over. Ash just falls from the sky like snow.. I've never seen this before.. and I hope to never see it again. Wishing for rain! Peace Coni

Sorry I haven't been posting much. My hubbs is home, he works on a tugboat so is often away, and when he is home we spend a lot of time together and out doing family stuff, especially in the warmer months. Last week as soon as we got home from our weekend at the cabin I had to run off to look at wedding dresses with my bff, then I was on the go all week, back out for more wedding dress shopping, reward shopping, exercise catch up, family birthday dinner and neice's birthday party. Needless to say the last thing I wanted to do in the few short moments I was home was sit in front of the 'puter.
One thing I can do when hubbs is home, run in my neighborhood. I've chosen the least hilly route, because that has been an issue for me, but it is awesome to not have to run around in circles!
Hope everyone had a great weekend and a good start to the week!

I live on the Sunshine Coast of B.C.! :D Aside from being my favourite place in the world, the specific area where I live is actually sometimes known as "The Venice of the North" because of the amount of waterways.. plus, I work at a waterfront resort, so I just get to leave my kayak on their dock! What a great way to arrive :)

75 IS mild - lol- I just would rather it not get any hotter. I grew up in PA with 95-98 days and humidity that makes it feel like 105+ but I've been spoiled here in WA. Haha!

Sorry I've been so quiet. My hubbs got home on saturday and we decided rather than fighting the crowds at the river we'd go up to the family cabin on the lake and have the dock to ourselves! Swam, played, cooked, ate - outside all day! And I've just been playing a little catch up since we got back.

WHOO! Have I EVER been busy.. I can't believe how awesome life is.

Sounds like you guys are feeling the heat just as much as I am! The weather for the last 4 days has been absolutely stunning, and as I speak there is not a cloud in the sky.

I am soo exhausted, haha! I'm basically moving all day every day; I get up, bike and kayak to work, clean all day, bike and kayak home, and usually go for a huge walk or hula hoop or clean some more or whatever. I make a lunch for the next day, eat a late dinner, maybe take a shower and do it all over again the next day! It's so great, though.. it's so gorgeous out, I just can't stay inside for long! I'm actually going to go make some dinner now!

AND I jumped in the lake today! It's freezing, of course. It's too cold for swimming but just right for cooling off :D

Unseasonably hot here in Iowa with temps in the 90s so 75 sounds GREAT to me!! I spent a couple of early morning hours helping my mom in her flower bed, then came inside for most of the rest of the day. Took an outdoor yoga class this afternoon. Decided I will NOT do that again in the heat! emoticon

To the lake! The boys played in the water on this most miserable of 75 degree days - haha! Ok that was a little sarcasm and a little truth - I'm such a cold weather girl! Not that I don't appreciate all the fun things we get to do when it's warm but if I'm not in the water I'm not happy. And as I have been dog sitting at my MIL's I was unprepared for the spike in temperature. It is actually a gorgeous day - not a cloud in the Washington sky. WHAT!?!? I KNOW CRAZY! The bluest sky you'll ever see!

Whooo.. I've been a busy bee! Saturday, all I could squeeze in was a kayak, but it was SO gorgeous out. Then I had a girl's night and may or may not have consumed an entire bottle of red wine :D ahh, to be young.

Yesterday I got to kayak again (and I got my first sunburn of the Canadian season! hah!), and went for a wee bike ride. I had JUST gone outside to hula hoop (amaaazing for the waist) when my dad had to take over my spot, and it was the only place where I could have listened to music. :(

But it was a good outdoorsy weekend! The weather was fabulous! And the BEST part is that I got a new job on Saturday, I start today, and excluding this morning because the weather is crap, I get to bike and kayak to and from work! I love life.

Today I picked iris, daisies, and peonies from my yard. My Mom and 2 sisters and I made 17 bouquets to take to the cemetary to remember loved ones. My dad is a recent addition to the list who receive these bouquets so we had fun talking about him and things we remember from growing up years.

The sight of peonies and iris REALLY takes me back to my childhood when my mom and aunts would prepare these same bouquets. It's a great family tradition.

Ah fun! The Grandparents, my children's great grandparents, we visited live in town they just have a large yard. However, we do have a Grandpa who lives a bit further out of town and has chickens, and the neighbor has horses, so the boys get to feed the chickens and pet the horses through the fence. It is so great!

This morning I got to do my walk/run intervals on the trail with my friend. Walking with a friend is so much more fun than going alone - and it's so much easier to go farther on the trail than the track. We had travelled 2 miles before even realizing it.

Sounds nice. We used to visit my folks on the farm when my kids were little alot! It's great to out in the country, have a bonfire, and not worry about kid noise bothering anyone. Now my dad is gone and Mom is here in town with me, but we all have fond memories of our family times together on the farm.

Enjoy!

My outdoor excursion today was out to Grandpa's enormous compost pile. I don't know how he stirs the thing! It is a sight to behold - no wonder his garden is so productive!
Grandma's was great - we have a birthday monthly or more so we get to have a big family dinner at least that often.

Well then you'd probably think my dog was your soulmate! I don't know what my parents have been feeding her while I was away but it must surely be illegal! lol. How was your gma's?

Today I went for a huuge walk around where I live - about an hour and a half. It was so nice, but unfortunately a tad ruined by the fact that I brought an umbrella in anticipation of rain (and of course there was not a single drop) and that I didn't have proper shoes because somebody stole my runners when I was travelling. Boo!

Did a little yoga when we went to the river on Thursday and threw rocks in the water... as predicted.
I also ran outside yesterday. Today it's a bit rainy and the boys have a friend over so probably not too much outside time. But i had a great week outside!

Rollerblading does sound fun. I haven't been in at least that long either! Yesterday I made a grocery list in the sun - ok it's not very active but at least I was outside! I did a little bit of yoga too and had hubby take a few pictures on my phone - I just have to get them on the puter... today I have to get out side at some point - I'm going to my SIL's house for dinner - hopefully it's a BBQ! We've had some amazing weather!!

Today I volunteered to help supervise children on the playground. I didn't move too much, though...mostly stood in one spot and watched for troublemakers...LOL

However...I did just get back from rollerblading! The first time, in at least 10 years! I only made it 10 minutes (about 1.5 miles). I plan to keep my rollerblades in my car so I can go at the start of each day.

Today my feet needed a rest after 10 miles over the weekend. It was gray most of the day here but the sun came out in the afternoon, so after dinner I sat on my deck and sipped a glass of wine... it was lovely.

Had a great walk/jog on Saturday then played a little ball with my son. Spent some time outside enjoying the nice weather yesterday and ended the day vacuuming the glass from my rear window out of my car... thank you dear 5 year old for throwing rocks at my car.

Yesterday was my second day of training. It feels so good to get out and get fresh air and I really like my the running part of my routine - I can't wait until my endourance builds.

I joined the Rookie Running Training Program on SP and started today. It was muddy but great!

Today I planted bell peppers, lettuce and spinach in my garden. I am hoping to go for a walk this afternoon.
