Or do you mean taking call, being on call. It is like you develop some sort of on call psychosis!

I've also worked all different shifts and multiple roles. I've been in management too. I agree that, as my dad use to say "every job has a bucket of crap with it - you just have to decide which bucket you can handle." My department has been without a manager for over a year. Effective today we have one. Our hopes are high.

The worst part of being a nurse is seeing other people take advantage of children and having to tell parents their sons or daughters have been injured mentally or physically.

The work load for days and nights IS different. I've worked all shifts.

Days has a lot of administrative stuff, doctor visits, day hygiene cares, meals, family matters, PT, OT, dressing changes, ambulation, etc.

Nights is hard but in its own way. The patients are expected to sleep but you have pain control, toileting, some ambulation, fewer medications but still medications, and if someone can't sleep, they are miserable.

The staffing load is different, but we are all valuable. I feel the same about CNAs and LPNs and RNs, housekeepers, PTs, etc. We are all part of the same team with the same goals. We just have different roles.

I have worked in all sorts of nursing jobs and every shift imaginable. I can tell anyone from experience that each job and each shift is hard in their way.

So I agree when everyone has said it's annoying that each shift is treated differently. I will also say to all that Clinical Nursing is NOT that easy. It may not be as physically demanding but emotionally its very taxing.

for me the worst part is being connsidered a trouble maker for bringing a coworker's errors to the suppervisor's attention, and for refusing to take on a 3rd full-time position one day.

I agree wholeheartedly with everyone that has responded! Anywhere you work, it's pretty much the same, too much work, too much paperwork, but don't go overtime! All places need all shifts, and everyone is important...if we treat each other as equally important, then maybe management will also!

I agree about day shift being treated differently. As a day shift nurse for two years I had all the credibility in the world when I reported things. Now since I work nights my credibility has gone out the window because the supervisors are only there during the day & don't see night time issues. It's infuriating.

I'm a day nurse, Sunny, but I couldn't agree with you more.

The worst part of being a nurse for me are the families who second guess everything we do because they saw something on House or read it on the internet.

I am a night nurse....until they did employee surveys this year, the worst part was being treated DIFFERENT , 6 patients at night, while day nurses got 5. This was true everywhere else but for our floor at night. We now have 5 regularly! It has been great.

But in all my years as a nurse, the worse part....is that the DAY shift is treated differently from the nights....that has always aggravated me.

The place needs BOTH shifts, and WE NIGHT NURSES make it happen!

The worst part of being a nurse is the same thing that is the worst about any job.

1. Being expected to do more and harder work with less support..

2. Supervisors who don't support staff and who don't care about much except their own paychecks. (Mine was "waxing" on company time the week before inspectors came.)

3. Not getting breaks or lunch, or expected to care for patients during break or lunch time.

1-calling families about the death of a loved one.....
2-lack of staff always working short
3-too many goodies to eat

1. When a favorite patient passes away.
2. Being under appreciated, over worked and under paid.
3. People at work who don't care about helping others they only see it as a job and when they put their work off on you but then rack up over-time because they are "swamped".
4. Managers who don't care that others are on the payroll but don't do their work.
