hi sparkers! My BMI is currently 29.8 which is on the fence of obese. I'd like to get my weight down to a normal range by spring. That's about 30 pounds, my goal is to lose 40 by the end of June. I've been trying for 2 years to lose these stubborn lbs & decided 2011 is going to be my year I take it off for good. I'm 38 years old and will not be overweight in my 40's..

Hi team, at my highest my BMI was 40.8 - that's 209 pounds on a 5'0" frame emoticon To date, I've lost over 40 pounds and this morning weighed in at 162.8 pounds which puts my BMI at 31.8. I'm really looking forward to getting out of the obese then overweight category and finally getting to my normal BMI emoticon

Smile .... it makes people wonder what you're up to ;-)

The fourth glass of wine is always a good idea before you do it and a really bad idea afterward! ;-)

It is far easier to MAKE time to exercise than it is to FIND time to exercise. You want results???? MAKE it happen.

When I started Sparkpeople I had a BMI of 28.1(at 190 lbs).
NOW? I am 3.2 pounds (168 lbs) away from being at a HEALTHY BMI.
I'll be there by my weigh in NEXT week. emoticon

Hello,

I am Rebecca and have never in my adult life had a healthy NORMAL BMI. I would love to change that this year. Right now I am 29.2 which puts me in the high end of the overweight category. With your encouragement, I know I can make it to 24.9 or lower.

Hey Amy...I'm Amy, too, and it looks like this particular board hasn't had much activity for awhile!

So...just checked the recommended site and see that I am obese (NO SURPRISE!), with a BMI of 31.2.

Before I lost my thyroid gland to illness (take meds only, truly have no gland left), and had 6 spine surgeries due to an injury AND WORSE yet, felt so sorry for myself that food became my buddy--I was svelte and sweet at 132-142. Now I'm FAT at 205. I've been whittling down from 223 since the end of July '09. It hasn't been without drama, though. I do have insulin resistance, newly diagnosed, so I'm working on learning to eat without carbs so much. I love carbs! But carbs = lots o' fat and no weight loss for me.

Let's do this thing!

I'm 43 years old and realizing that this is Serious.

I started with a BMI over 52 (that's super morbid obesity, for those of you who might not know) in May 2007.

I've since lost 74 lbs and dropped into morbid obesity, and as of this morning, my BMI is finally under 41. Once it gets under 40 (in 6.1 more lbs), I will finally be just plain obese, rather than morbidly obese, and that will be cause for celebration.

My eventual goal is to be between 150 and 160 (BMI between 23 & 24). It'll probably take me at least a year to get there from here, if not longer. But it's a project worth sticking with.

Never, ever, EVER give up!

From BMI 53 (336 lbs) to under 30. Now aiming for less than 20% body fat.

Hello guys im Sal from Patterson , CA im at 274lbs yikes. Ive been on industrial injury leave from work since Dec 2007 and still out ive had 2 surgeries to repair torn tendon at my right arm and a torn rotator cuff at shoulder. Im on my 3 wk of physical therapy and I seriously need to get that weight off atleast to 195 or less for a better BMI but I cant really do much at gym right now because of my arm. Frustrated and wanting my weight off.

Cindy, I know exactly what you mean about looking forward to being "fat"! I still have a ways to go to reach that category on the BMI scale! I am confident though (finally)! When I started this time around I would lose only about 1 pound per month no matter how hard I worked and how well I stuck to my diet. Finally, something kicked in and I've lost between 6 & 7 pounds! I'm hoping that it is a sign that my metabolism has kicked up a couple of notches. We can do this!!! emoticon

hi guys!!

My name is Michelle and I was invited by Linda (Raylinstephens). I've been in a plateau for almost 3 months now!!! :( I started this year off weighing 281 (YIKES! Highest ever!!) I decided to make a change in February, and as of the end of July I had lost 31 lbs (YAY!) bringing me down to 250 lbs. It went down to 248 in August, then back up to 250 and has been there since late August! :(

My goal is to lose about 100 lbs. My BMI is 42.5 right now (VERY HIGH!!) It was 46 in February, so it has gone down a bit. In order for be to be just at the "normal" range, I would have to be somewhere around 150 lbs, so I'm aiming for my weight to be around 140-150. emoticon

Hey Guys.
I've never been skinny but have somehow managed to lose 15 pounds or so the last few years. I just have had a terrible time trying to continue that loss. My BMI is 27.4 and have 16-17lbs to go until I just hit the healthy range. I would like to be closer in the middle of that range at 150lbs.

Hello,

I just joined this team after following a link from another group to the September challenge. I thought it sounded like a great idea.

I posted my starting BMI and made the mistake of looking through other posts and got depressed. Everyone that posted has a BMI I would be thrilled with at this point! Not so sure that joining the challenge was that good an idea now. emoticon

I'm Linda and my current BMI is 31.
I need to reach 136 lbs to be normal.

I started at 38.41 so I have come a very long way since March!

Hi, my name is Christina and I'll be 44 in October. My current BMI is 31.9, the highest I have ever been in weight. At spark, I was lowest at 164lb, but keep getting sabotaged by family. Lots of stress this summer, so gained 10, and I'm at my max of 185.6lbs. Need to get back on track. On the positive, my daughter (9), is very motivational always telling me and family how we have to get FIT! She's my little trainer, and will help be get back on track, with the Wii FIT!

BTW, This is so frustrating because before family, in my 20's, I was FIT! Never had a weight issue before, and now I have to tackle mine, and my family's!

Hi, my name is Deborah and my current BMI is 29.9-almost obese to the extremely overweight. I wasn't always overweight until I became a couch potatoe and a junk food junkie. It has only been about 32 days since joining spark and am learning how to be a fit person already. I will be turning the big 40 in March 2009 and would love to be at a normal BMI.

Hi, my name is Ana, I am 24 and have been overweight since I was about 7! I am 5'6" and I currently weigh 175 pounds. I started out at 205 a few years ago, plateaued at 185, and in the last month have come to 175, giving me a BMI or 28. My goal is to reach 140, which is right in the middle of my healthy weight range! That means 35 pounds to go. Don't let me get discouraged!

Hi my name is mary and I'm 5'1" and I'm 213.4Lbs and I qualify as obese. To be at my healthy BMI I have to be about 127Lbs at the most but currently I'm shooting for 130Lbs this means I would have to loose 86 Lbs to be at an Ideal weight for my body

Dont get discouraged. along with weighing yourself, make sure that you are taking measurements of your body too. Sometimes the scale gets stuck but inches are being lost!!!

Hello everyone. I weigh 169 and i am 5'6". The last time i checked my BMI i was obese. Not what i wanted to see but i have come a long ways from 211. I am at a plateau and it is hard to be motivated when the scale seems broke. HELP!

A normal bmi is 24.9. I have a good website that can help you figure out a good number for you. It also helps to know if you are a small, medium or large frame. It lets you know if you should be in the low, middle or high range for your bmi.

Hello,

I am new to BMI and have been a member of SP for two years. I have lost some weight but had been satisfied with where I was at weightwise. I have now decided that I need to get in shape for myself. The eye opener was my BMI of 36.4. I have just completed week one with exercise and healthy eating. I can already tell the difference in the way I feel. Looking forward to weighing tomorrow.
I am 57 years old, work out at the gym 5 days a week at 5:30 a.m. for 30 minutes.

Looking forward to participating on this team.

Hi Amy...welcome to sparklepeople. I have only been here for a bit over a week but I love the place! I notice that it really motivates me to keep track of my calories by filling out the nutrition for the day and inputting my exercise. Im amazed that just 25 minutes on my elliptical machine burns 360 calories!!! That is a motivator! I love to write in the jourmal everyday which is in the drop down menu of MY TOOLS and under planner. Just explore the site and you will be hooked!! Im rooting for you!

Hello everyone! Been here for a little over a week and am excited by all the resources listed here on sparkle! Every time I quit smoking I seem to gain 40 to 50 pounds and after 3 years of struggling, I seem to go back to the smoking which helps me lose the weight. I dont want that to happen this time around. Its the 3rd time of quitting the smoking habit and I want this time to be the LAST! I cant handle having to have 3 inhalers just to be able to smoke! When I dont smoke, I dont need the inhalers and its time that I have patience with myself and not let the extra weight get me down and change my decision to be healthier and stronger in every way. So I need to continue to do what I need to do no matter what it looks like. I have gained 5 pounds since beginning and its very upsetting but I also know that that is sometimes how it goes when you start exercising and eating right. Muscle weighs more that fat.

Like I said..Im excited to be here and to be persistant about it. I just want some support because I am in the emotional state of picking up those cigarrettes again just to lose.

Anyone out there who can relate???

Hey there, I'm Tara
I have been trying to get down to a healthy weight since I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and had specialists put me on a bunch of different pills(which sadly were very expensive and didnt help me much) telling me I really need to get my weight down ....

My current BMI is 36.8, 195lbs, 5"1 So I have A LOT to lose (65lbs) to be in the normal weight range. The lowest I have been in the last 4 years is 32.1, 170 lbs.... So I hope I can get back on track and stay motivated now that Im in my new house without any roommates

My name is Lisa. I weigh 171 which is way more than I want to. I have kind of yo-yoed for forever. In college, I'm not really sure how much I got up to, but it was more than 171. I started working out and eating healthy and in less than a year I was down below 140. That is about the smallest that I've ever been, but that was still overweight by BMI. I'm not sure how much stock I put in BMI because I am short and I'm really not built to be teeny, tiny. I felt great when I was down around 140. My BMI right now is 31.1 and I know that I need to loose weight. My goal this time is 130 which is a BMI of 24.6, which is barely in the healthy zone. But, I'll post and keep working. My husband and I want to have kids sometime in the next couple years, but I want to be healthy before we start.
