I haven't noticed that. Around here, as far as I know people are still calling it Halloween. Though I think there's a fall festival on campus next weekend. I haven't paid much attention to what retailers are calling it -- like if they're selling "fall festival" decorations versus Halloween. At my brother's church they have fall festivals, or harvest festivals, but that makes sense for a church. They probably do say the name 'Halloween" sometimes, but only to say how it's wrong. I can imagine them avoiding even the word because of connections to the word "holy." I'm going to keep my eye out for changes around town though, now that you've pointed it out. I won't be able to avoid ti now, lol.
Its kinda weird, and i just can't quite describe it, but over the past several years (at least the past 5 certainly), Halloween has gone by the wayside. By that, I mean calling it what it is: Halloween.
I'm actually working on a Halloween event at my college campus for the community, but like everything else, it seems to be a "Fall Festival" in order to advertise it. I swear, except on the calendar, Halloween seems to have become a dirty word.
I can't quite figure out when this changed and how exactly--has it done so for you? I was never the biggest Halloween nut, but I'm more creative than I used to be and am loving the opportunity to stretch my horizons (check out my blog if you want--been building a spaceship for the event the past 10 days) and be inventive and let my imagination run wild.
I live in the sticks and haven't had a trick-or-treater at my door the past 8 years just about. Maybe its the fact that the parents would have to drive the kids door to door to get the candy and whatnot where I live, but even in other places, it seems that Halloween has turned into Fall Festivals run by churches. I can understand that out here where there're actually as many churches as gas stations, but Halloween itself is never said. There is no Halloween celebration anymore.
Has it been that way where you are, or is it still Halloween--when and why did things start to change (do you think) where you are (if they have)? Its been nagging at me the past couple of years, but I keep forgetting to ask.
