I like granola bars, with some peanut butter added on top for extra protein and fillinh power.

Usually when I study I need to eat to not only cut the boredom factor but also stay awake. I like a hit of sugar, so I enjoy m&m's or swedish fish. I also like the pick aspect, so granola bars, etc not my first choice. Carrots are great, but dont keep me awake. Any ideas? Thanks!

I've been eating very clean for awhile so it's difficult for me to even eat a whole candy bar sometimes (that can be either good or bad actually)!!! I usually stick to fruit while I'm studying or eat a small meal if it's a day I'm eating 6 meals rather than 3. :-)

I usually go for the plain popcorn, too. Also, I munch on grapes when I want something sweet. A friend recently suggested to simply chew on a popsicle stick if I know I'm just needing to burn some nervous energy while I'm studying. It sounds a little goofy, but it works!

Great topic! Off the top of my head, these are some generally healthy snacks that I sometimes or often like to eat...

Carrot and Celery Sticks with Garbanzo Bean Dip
Honey Sticks
Frozen Grapes
Any Type of Fruit (grapefruit, nectarines)
Nuts (almonds especially)
Popcorn, Naked
...My recommendation would be to choose healthy snacks based on what nutrients you might need more of in your diet. If you, for example, need more protein then nuts are ideal (bean dip too). If you needed more potassium then eat bananas. Also, base your snacks on what flavors you know your crave and what density of food you need to feel satisfied.

If you just need to have something in your mouth or maintain the motion of putting something in your mouth then high quantity, very low calorie foods like popcorn are ideal. On the other hand, if you really want more dense and filling food then something like the carrot sticks and garbanzo bean dip would be a better choice.

Good luck reaching all of your fitness and academic goals everyone! Keep sending in the awesome questions.

I also need some good snacks. I am allergic to chocolate, peanuts, beets, wheat, dairy, potatoes, shellfish, and coffee. Do any of you have any suggestions?

I love the peanut butter idea! For a sweet tooth, I usually go for craisins or Orville Redenbacher's Healthy Pop Kettle Korn: a smidge over a 100 calories for a whole bag of goodness that I can zone out on while reading and not worry. I also love a predetermined amount of nuts like cashews or almonds, or even a raw red pepper cut into strips dipped in hummus.

I have something more important than courage. I have patience. I will become what I know I am.

Hi! I keep a small jar of peanut butter at my desk. Often, I'll bring apples, crackers, celery (anything crunchy, really) and slather a tablespoonful of PB on top! :)

I have very similar study habits with eating a lot at night. I've found that Atkins Advantage Bars (with 10g of protein) really curb my appetite. Also, I've gotten in the habit of studying somewhere other than my room so I can't binge. It's a pain to move all my things back and forth, but I carved out a spot in the library and have made it my second home, and that seems to be working for me.

I'll second the Clif Bars. They are excellent for a quick meal. Luna bars are good as well.

I keep an assortment of protein bars and fresh granola in my office; otherwise I would sabotage a lot of people. When I inherited my space, I found that my predecessor was known as the go to person for munchies. She always had at least six different selections to choose from. They were all chocolate. I've had some unhappy colleagues this semester, but a lot of happy ones as well.

Mmmm. I haven't looked into the salads yet because we don't have a fridge in our office right now. But I love TJ's for tons of things. Just wish the stores were more conveniently located, but I understand that's part of the low prices. My fav. TJ's stuff is the frozen veggies and chile lime chicken burgers.

Aren't they great? Trader Joe's has been a real lifesaver for me lately. They have great salads and all the nutritional information is right there on the packaging. It's so easy to track what you eat. I had a salad with corn, black beans, lettuce, tomato and some kind of spicy dressing today. Only 170 calories!

A personal favorite is Clif Bar energy bars: 240 calories, 45 fat calories, 43 grams of carbs, 5 grams of fiber, 20 grams of sugar. Sounds like a lot of calories but they're really filling. I'm also into tangerines right now. Very good for keeping your immune system running well. Can't get enough Vitamin C as this nasty flu sweeps through the land. Lastly, I eat Trader Joe's Chili Lemon Pistachios. Serving size is 1/2 a cup, with 170 calories, 110 calories from fat (13 grams), 190 mg of sodium, 9 g of carbs and 6 grams of protein. Because they're spicy and salty, you can't really pig out on them. Drink water with them and you get full pretty quickly. I hope that helps. Keep it up, you're doing great!

I can't but help having snacks around me while I'm reading all my various books on different kinds of therapy and community organization, so I was wondering if any of you have any good snacks that are healthy while still being able to somewhat satisfy my craving for sweets. This is my real weakness, while I'm studying or just at night I get these huge cravings for junk food and I most of the time lose that battle! So any tips on some healthier sweet snacks would be great! Thanks!
