I haven't had surgery on my heart yet. Two ICD 's so far though. I have had several bouts of A-fib, and was put on Coumadin. They used my ICD to shock me the last time, and said it didn't work. I continued with issues, mostly out of breath, trouble doing anything as simple as showering, for about 3 more weeks. That was almost 2 years ago, and no issues since then.
A lot of weight loss helped, and my last echo showed my ejection fraction improved from 16 % to 45 %, with 50% being normal. Ejection fraction is how much blood by volume in the heart is ejected( pumped out ) with each heart beat.. So if you have 2 cups of blood in the heart, you normally pump out 1 cup , or half with each heartbeat. So with weight loss, exercise, and Coreg and a few other pills, I have tripled the effectiveness of my heart strength.
I am hoping that this continues, since A-fib is hard to live with. Hope you find some way to get rid of it , or minimize the time you are feeling it. Three weeks was too long for me. My ICD also makes small corrections, which undoubtedly helps, also.

Hi VATRUCKER, welcome to the team. I do not have a-fib, but I'm sure there are some on the team who will be able to comment on.
