It has been unusually cool here, so I can't complain.

Today is the 3 year anniversary of my open heart surgery. I celebrate it as my second birthday-except instead of cake and ice cream, I had an extra long workout with my trainer.

Good to hear from you and your doing well. Sounds like you have it together with having your trainer joining. Good luck in losing the 10lbs and I'll be cheering you on.

Here what's motivates me: Having a great workout and get on the scale and seeing a weight loss. Having my friends and staff say " boy you have lost a lot of weight"

Sabotage: Eating what over family members are eating that takes me out of my range which includes eating out.

Hi Everyone,
Happy Friday!
I am so excited. I got my trainer lloyd to join sparkpeople. He is going to check in and look at my food and exercise reports. My goal is to lose 10 pounds by September 11, that is when I go to Vegas for training. Now I really have to track my food and log my exercise because I know he will get on my case when I see him every week. It is so great to have someone who is really pulling for me to succeed.
So my question for the day is who motivates you? OK, lets make it two questions-Who sabotages you?

Hi everyone! This heat has been a bear this week and the reports it's going to get even hotter.
Good news great report with my pacemaker check. Only issue was getting electrical interference from the treadmill when my HR gets over 130. Amazing what these devices can do down to the minute. I hope everyone had a great day and looking to wonderful weekend.

PS: Weigh in this morning and dropped to 229. I have not seen this in many......years!

Happy Monday All.
I'm back in Bakersfield and this time I remembered my sneakers. I think I have this traveling thing down, but I just need to avoid the hotel's evening reception (free wine, beer, cookies, and other goodies) My plan is to get a small glass of red wine and take it up to my room for later. (after my work out). I'm also going to shop and prepare my meals myself. Just because the hotel offers free meals, doesn't mean they are calorie or sodium free! I want to prove that I can lose just as much (or more ) weight on the road than staying at home. Wish me luck!

I'm over at CSU Bakersfield.
I can't believe I forgot to pack my sneakers, but I didn't use that as an excuse to stop exercising. I went to the hotel gym and rode the bike for 45 minutes wearing my flip flops! It looked silly, but not as silly as if I would have tried it in high heels. emoticon

Hi All,
I haven't dropped off the face of the earth-I'm just traveling for business so very little down time. Actually Ronnie I'm in your territory at the moment. You were not kidding when you said it was hot!!
The only thing I would add to everyone's advice is to start tracking sodium. That stuff is hidden in so many innocent looking foods (even the "reduced sodium" products can have large amounts). I can always tell when I've had too much. My weight will jump 2-3 pounds overnight.

I've been there and hit the dreadful plateau. Mariserv you are right on in balanced meals with the recommended calories, carbs, protein, fruits and veggies. Try splitting up your meals into 4-6 times a day in smaller meals and snacks. I did this and broke through the plateau. Your body will react when you over eat and cut back on meals. Send your mind a signal additional meals, and change in fitness routine. I know it's frustrating but hang in there!

Are you eating enough calories? Are you eating balanced meals? Maybe too many carbs and not enough veggies, fruit and protein. Even good carbs can add up. How about your water intake? Sometimes you just need to take a look at what you are eating not just adding up calories.

I have great workouts, but seem not to lose any weight. I even read my label for calories, after taking a 3 month Health Program. I go to the YMCA and Snap at least 4 times a week. Any suggestions?

Good morning team! It's been a busy week in cleaning out the basement to a full day yesterday of yard work. Not the way I intended my vacation to be but all stuff that needed to be done. I've dropped 2.5 lbs which I'm down 59 lbs. Nice but I still have another 21 lbs to my goal. Off to the doctors for a checkup and back to finishing up the to-do list.

Richard Simmons is so much fun!! What I like to do also is when I do my grocery shopping, I get all my groceries first than do a lap or two around the entire store, up and down all the isles. I'm lucky enough to shop at a large supermarket but sometime I do it at Target or Home Depot or do it at Sam's Club, they are all big stores. The mall is not convenient for me but they have a group of morning mall walkers. If there is no mall group near you, start one.

Good Morning Everyone and happy 4th!!

Just wanted to thank all of you. I was having my own private pity party yesterday and just wanted to give up. Seeing all of your posts, messages, and goodies gave me the boost I needed to keep going. I'm still in the game and that's what matters!

MARISERV is right-there are lots of things you can do indoors. Sometimes I break out my old Richard Simmons videos and just dance to the oldies. If you can't stand being in your house, you can always go to the mall and do laps. I also found a water aerobics class at our community college. If you can get past the "wearing a bathing suit in public" thing (which is a big deal for me) it is actually very refreshing and fun!

Your MD is right Ronnie, stay out of the heat. Your health comes first. Everything else is secondary. I live in NJ and the weather here has been beautiful but a few weeks back it was hot and extremely humid and I spent very little time outside. Even though I felt I could go out and walk I decided not to take that chance. Besides, there is plenty you can do inside.

Day 3 of my vacation and still working on the basement. Looks like a hot day with temps in the upper 90's. It may not be so bad to be inside on a day like this. I'm celebrating my one year of Sparking. Good results in dropping 56 pounds and just short of my goal. I still have a ways to go! Have a great day!

Looks like it's going to be a great day. I was up early and hit the gym at 7am. I'm still learning to use some of the strength equipment to change up my routines. Welcome Mariserv!
My advice to you is just keep trying! This is a lifelong journey and you will have good days and bad days. Just do baby steps and don't think of it as a diet. You are changing your lifestyle. You will feel so much better when the weight starts to come off!!

There is a lot of information on this site, so try not to get overwhelmed. If you get the chance, read the book. It is a good starting point.

Yesterday was crazy! I'm trying to sell my house, so I left work early to get it ready for a showing. I managed to spill a whole gallon of white paint all over the floor! I managed to get everything cleaned up in time, but I was stressed. When I'm stressed I turn to food. It was not pretty. I know there are several techniques out there to use in situations like this, but it is as if something else takes over. It is definitely an area I need to work on. Oh well, you stumble and then get right back up again. I guess that is the key.
Hope today is better for everyone (including me!)

Long day at work and a quick workout tonight. Just weights and walked the track.

BG- There is nothing wrong in taking a day for yourself. Just keep things in perspective and your goal. It tough when everyone around is either snacking or insisting you snack with them. I politely remind them I'm really working hard to better my health and just pass on the treats. If they really care about you they get the drift. I get asked to go out at work all the time. It's tough as you have to watch what you eat and drink.

Hi All,
Happy Tuesday.
So I took yesterday off to celebrate a friend's 70th birthday. The party was at a local casino and included a buffet lunch. I confess I blew it and I'm paying the price today. I probably had more sodium at lunch than I had all month (and I won't even discuss the dessert table!). Today I feel miserable/sluggish and my hands & feet are swollen. I'm back on track and eating healthy, but I'm a little depressed because I realize I can never "relax" again. I'm not talking about gaining weight, although I don't want that either, I'm referring to the consequences to my heart and overall health. I so want to reach my goals, but I find myself turning down social events because I don't want to be tempted to do what I did yesterday.

My question is, how would all of you handle a situation like this? A milestone event where everyone around you is eating all the foods you love and encouraging you to eat,eat Eat!.

FIRST I WANT TO SAY HELLO TEAM. GLAD ALL ARE TALKING ABOUT YOU.

WELL I HAD TRIPLE HEART BYPASSS SERGURY 11 YEARS AGO.

I DIED ON THE TABLE BUT THEY BROUGHT ME BACK TO LIFE.

STILL HAVE PROBLEMS NOW AND THEN. I ALSO HAVE 16 STENTS IN MY

HEART AND TAKE PLAVIAX AND ASPRIN EVERY DAY/. BUT I WATCH WEIGHT


THE BEST I CAN . I USED TO BE A CERTIFIED NURSING ASSISTANT FOR 15
YEARS AND I NOW WHAT NEDS TO BE DONE TO GET A HEALTHY HEART.

I HOPE ALL ON THIS TEAM WILL CONTIUE TO EAT SMART AND EXERCISE AND KEEP YOUR HEARTS STRONG ANDSUPPORT EACH OTHER

WELL I HOPE THAT THIS TELLS YOU ALL SOMETHING ABOUT MY HEART

Congratulations on the driving GVANSCOOT. I was not allowed to drive for 6 weeks after my surgery and it made me nuts. But then, I live in LA and we are all addicted to our cars.

I had a great workout today too. Saturday is super cardio day. I meet my walking buddies at 8 and we walk about 3 miles. Then I meet my trainer and we work out at the gym for an additional hour. He challenges me to meet my fears and I end up doing things I never would have thought possible. Today was Jacob’s ladder. (Think ladder meets treadmill) Anything where you need a harness to keep from falling off scares me since I am super klutz! He had me do that for 2 minutes-it felt like 2 hours, but afterwards I was really proud of myself.

As for restrictions, I’m afraid I’m being very rebellious at the moment and completely ignoring my doctor’s advice. It’s a long story, but he doesn’t want me getting my heart rate over 130, lift more than 10 pounds, or fly on an airplane. I can’t live my life that way. Plus I believe my heart will be a lot healthier if I lose the extra weight and exercise regularly. Having said that, just because I'm being stupid, don't anyone else follow my example! Listen to your doctor!!

So, changing the subject, tell me everyone, what is the craziest form of exercise you have tried? For me it's Kangoo Boots.

Had a good day at the gym this morning and I'm beginning to add increase the weights. I had a checkup with my Cardiologist and was given the green light to drive again after a 6 month absence. Woohoo!


BGHRTLINDA- How are you doing at the gym and what equipment are you comfortable with? Do you need to take any precautions in your routines?

What an accomplishment GVANSCOOT-57 pounds! I'm sure that the weight loss has made a big difference in your health. I know it has in mine.

I had my aortic valve replaced about 3 years ago. I'm still having some cardio issues (they just found a hole in my heart) but I feel great and I actually like to exercise now.

What is your heart story RATDAR4?

Good morning,
It's great when you have a interactive team. I'm on some teams that are very good in providing support and kudos when you do good.

I have bradycardia and had a pacemaker put in December. Since that time I have not blacked out. My normal heart rate at that time was only 55 and resting went into the 40s. Fingers are crossed and so far all is well. I've also lost 57 lbs which does not hurt!

WELL I AT LEAST GOT SOME ONE TO COME AND CHAT HERE LOL.
