Best thing I can tell ya about eating out, is get a guide, or actually explore the interenet and find out the values of all foods that you may be thinking about eating.
Salt is hidden everywhere, and to me, I just love a good ponderosa salad with everything on it, smothered with cottage cheese, its simply delicious! But, I found out that the cottage cheese was loaded with hidden salt, (as I knew the ham chunks and other things like olives that I put on the salad had salt in them), but it simply shocked me when I did a search afterwards to put it in my nutritional values, and boy did that salt counter just jump the long one when I added the cottage cheese! *sigh* Its everything you love, that you simply cant have, or ya gotta eat in wee bitty portions cause it just aint good 'nuff for us anymore :)
I would make a list of everything thats possible that can be consumed at this resturant or that resturant and do a google search on it, then take the list with you. (So what if you look silly?! YOUR the one who wants to get HEALTHY!! RIGHT!?).

Hi yes I eat out the place I love to go to is Cracker Barrel I usually get the kids menu grilled chicken tenders and steak fries with a biscuit I stay away from fried foods red meat and watch my. portions eat fruit and veggies. I see you are from Jacksonville Fla. My husband was stationed at Cecil Field there in Jacksonville we use to live on San Juan Ave 2x's last time we were there was oh 20 years ago .My I did not realize it had been that long ago how time flys. I'm wondering what everyone does about eating out... I (used to!) hardly ever eat at home and I know how to eat out weight-watchers style; but I need to learn how to eat out in a heart-healthy way. I just don't know a lot of sodium/cholesterol values for food and restaurant food always poses a bigger challenge for those of us watching our weight/health.
My friends are starting to ask me about taking me out for lunch or dinner and so far I have declined because I don't think I'm ready for that challenge quite yet; but it got me thinking... I thought a discussion would be helpful for me (and hopefully others!) about how you handle eating out.

Are there specific restaurants/meals that are your go-to places/dishes?
What guidelines do you follow to eat heart-healthy when eating out?
What advice/tips/tricks do you have that help you?
