Yes, the food here is delicious, mainly because of all the chemicals and flavor enhancers for taste and preservation. I was actually following a Paleo diet for almost a year. I do not know if you are familiar with it, but it eliminates most processed foods. It is mainly meat, vegetables, and some fruit. I did not eat any gluten (a really bad substance), dairy, or beans. I was pretty successful with it but seemed to plateau and got bored with it, so I am back to counting calories. I try to stay under 2500 calories a day and I exercise at least 30 minutes a day. All of this will be harder to control once I am out of the country but I am going to really try because I do not want to undo a lot of the good work I have done.

I rarely eat fast food anymore, but it is weird, when I am traveling and gone for a long time, I sometimes crave something, anything, that reminds me of home. I generally will go to McDonalds because they are so easily found abroad (it is one of my least favorite fast food restaurants in the States). As far as the soda goes, I would rather drink regular soda than diet. I usually just drink water and that is it, maybe a little bit of fruit juice, but mostly just water. Now that I am not doing the Paleo diet and counting calories, I have one Mexican Coke a week (no high fructose or corn syrup, just regular cane sugar). I know it is still empty calories but I enjoy it with my popcorn on Sunday nights and 12 ozs of soda a week compared to nearly two liters of soda a day is a lot better.

The only reason I am going to Sao Paulo is because the cruise I may take leaves and ends there. It goes to Buenos Aires, Montevideo, and Punta Este (I think, some beach area in Uruguay). After the cruise, I will probably just stay in Sao Paulo until New Year's Day. I really liked Rio and Manaus Brazil. I also thought Iquazu Falls was like Niagara Falls on steroids.

Well, we have very similar weight loss goals. We started around the same weight but I probably don't want to get any lower than around 230 or 220 pounds. I am really tall and the last time I got down to about 200 pounds I looked like a crack head. I guess the traveling would be pretty grueling if you don't get the chance to take your time and smell the roses.

It can have its good benefits but there are a lot of draw backs. I cant just go out and see stuff in the city when ever I want. there are a few cities that I didn't to even see the city in the daylight and only 4 hours at night.(I was there 14 days) I don't have much of a choice were I get to go they send me where they want/need me to go. they only pay for flights and hotels everything is out of pocket (they don't pay the greatest).
As far as the food I do agree that the best tasting food (except BBQ) is from the US but it is also some of the worse for you since it is so full of chemicals. in the states people go shopping maybe once a week and almost everything will not spoil where over seas for the same type of items they rot in 2 days. so people overseas usually go shopping a few times a week but only get a few things.
as far as food overseas I think it is good you just have to find/try new things there are a lot of things that I have tried (thanks to bets or my willingness to try anything once) I have found stuff that is fantastic that I would have never tried otherwise (Rat on a stick) (the bug cart in Thailand). I try really hard not to eat fast food (I have not had fast food in almost 5 months) I make it a point to go into a sit down restaurant. If you can try changing over to coca cola zero. There are a lot of options to be had for restaurants. (Juice, water, tea) eating out in restaurants makes it very difficult to track your food (that is my biggest struggle as I don't know the language)
as far as going to Sao Paulo I would pass there isn't really much to do here and it can be expensive to get around due to high amounts of traffic. this is the city that our promoters are from and even they cant think of anything worth seeing. I would suggest a few other places in brazil before here (but you really need to know the language to find the best stuff or have a friend that can translate) everything I have heard about Uruguay it isn't that great. but I had the choice of Uruguay (haven't been) Argentina or Chile (been to both). I loved both of those and the food in those are fantastic (Argentina you can go to a steak house and get all the meat you can eat for 15-20 dollars) I will let you know a little more about Montevideo in a few weeks once I have been there.

Wow, that sounds like a great and interesting job and I am very jealous that you get to travel to all those interesting places (especially on someone else's dime). I am a middle school counselor, so I get lots of time off. I try to take three international trips a year. I am always thinking about my next trip. I only have two more days of work and then i will be off for ten weeks. Well, I think that a lot of the countries you will be going to the food is not great. I honestly think the best food in the world is in the USA. My problem is that I will eat a lot of bad food, or fast food, and drink a lot of Coca Cola. Plus, I am not as active physically as I am when I am at home, so it leads to trouble. I am hoping that I will be able to curb some of my bad eating habits and be more active while on this vacation. I am going to try to track calories and be as active as possible. I do not think the food will be that great in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, so that is good. If it is anything like Russian food, it will probably be pretty gross. I am thinking about Sao Paulo and a cruise next Christmas. I will get a new country in Uruguay if I do that. :)

I am starting to learn slowly how to eat in restaurants but I started participating on sparkpeople in January and at the time I was touring in the US so I had a lot of options I could go onto a restaurants website and know what to get or they have it printed on the menu. then I got shipped overseas for half of a South American tour and then getting shipped over to South Africa so having to learn how to eat differently then what I use to do when I was overseas before also makes it difficult. I have a few items on my bucket list, I want all 50 states (40ish I can count 2 more but didn't really in my mind been there) I want all 7 continents (5 and will have a 6th in 4 weeks) and 257 countries (I have 31).
The reason I travel so much is I am a Lead/ Head Ice Engineer for Disney on Ice. I go from one place to another setting up ice skating rinks where they don't have one so they can put a show on there. so I am on the road 340+ days a year (about a 1/3 of the time I am at the global headquarters working on the equipment that gets shipped out to each location.
I am in Sao Paulo Brazil till tomorrow than I head to Curitiba Brazil.
So do you do that allows you to travel as much as you have?

I have a lot of the struggles you have when I am traveling. When I am home, working, and in my routine, I do very well. Work, dinner, gym, snack, tv, repeat, but when I am traveling (especially abroad), I do not do so well. Last summer, I traveled the entire summer, and gained 25 pounds. I have lost almost 100 pounds over the last two years and it is the first time I have lost weight slowly and kept it off for the most part. I am worried that when I leave on June 5 for vacation that I will slip. I have some apps on my phone so I am hoping to watch my calories and try to stay under 2500 calories a day and get as much physical activity as I can (walking, cycling, swimming, using gyms in hotels). I want to try to at least maintain over the next ten weeks while I am traveling. What kind of work do you do that you get to travel so much? I have three bucket lists.....go to every state (check), every continent (all but Antarctica), and 100 countries (I am up to 75). I will be heading to Norway, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania for a month, road trip out west, and then Miami and a four night Bahamas cruise on my radar for this summer. Where are you now?

So I have a question. I travel a lot for work most of it being international. I stay in ok 3-4 star hotels once in a while a 5 star. (get kicked out of most for using hot plates) no microwave lucky if there is a fridge. I have to eat out for most of my meals. I only speak English and learn enough to say the common phrases in each country. my question is, what do you do when you travel to stay on track? How do you log the meals? How do you shop in each place if you don't know the language? Does anyone have any other suggestions when traveling?
