It's been a rainy day today one of those I don't want to do much day. One these days I have been finding solace in painting. I thought I would stop by to let you all know I am not dead...but still not quite as good as I would like to be. I am trying though. I have lost a few more pounds and made it to the barn for the horses quite a bit.

My oldest granddaughter sold her house and was thinking about moving to Texas but she decided at the last minute she wanted to stay in Michigan so she is busy looking at smaller homes in the area while living out of the travel camper. She hates it but at least it gives her a bit of privacy.

My second oldest granddaughter is getting married in August and I have been busy designing the cards for her and having them printed up. She has a theme going ...Alice N Wonderland....so the RSVP's...Invites...Shower...Save the Date had to be designed and somehow she didn't want them all quite the same...similar but not the same. The good news as I got them ready in order and gave them to her....she loved them all. I just finished the wedding invitations and RSVP... to be mailed out today.

I had to put down two of my wonderful dogs...and one horse. I was so sad...but it had to be done.

I thought I would upload one of the new paintings I just did in my spare time. This is Hyatti...my old guy that I raised from a baby.

I'm feeling a whole lot better today, had a small incident between my grandson and my sister last night. Makes the third time she went off on the family here. I just found out she quit taking her medications that was helping her with her depression. Wonderful it looks as if I have to get in the middle again. She goes off and moves out without having any place to go.

I just don't feel like having to deal with this in the middle of winter and trying to recover on top of it all. It is what it is and somehow I will manage like always.

I heard some very sad news yesterday, one of my spark friends that I had become close to passed away while I was in the hospital and I am just devastated. It's funny how you can build a friendship with people you don't know but it is possible. I kind of feel at a loss coming on and not finding her on here giving out comments or leaving me messages.

I lost 31 lbs while in the hospital and seem to be still loosing. I need to pick up a little bit on eating I think I am eating less than 700 calories a day right now and as tender as my stomach is ....I need a little more than that to sustain me in the long haul.

My dogs are all back at home feeling happy I am here with them. My girl Lilly that has Cancer is doing ok....on her daily medicine but it will be taking it's toll on her before long. She has this look in her eyes....that she is just so excited to be considered a lap dog after all this time she has been trying to be one. She has always been what I like to call a needy dog....and at almost 80 lbs on your lap is not where she needs to be. But for the rest of her life we will all tolerate her needy self and make her a happy camper. I ordered a new dog bad to go in the back of my car so that she can go bye bye with me. I never let her into the car before but what the heck its only a car right. My memories of her will outlast the car by a long shot.

I should not be doing it but you can't keep an old horse down, I am going to get out today and drive. I figure I am not on any pain meds so I should not be falling asleep or having to many traveling problems. I want to go to the store and buy some food that is simple to fix.

Have a great Saturday afternoon.

You know I have just discovered something interesting. I am not sure how it got by me prior to yesterday but, it’s here now and I am going to take advantage of it. I realized if I put on a pair of shoes when I get up….I feel much more like moving around. If I leave on my slippers I really don’t feel like doing much except sitting around not doing too much at all. But put on a pair of shoes it makes getting up and doing things seem closer at hand. It made me feel like I was ready to step up and do something. I was still in my pjs all day long….but with shoes on I managed to get up and down the stairs to do some laundry, clean my kitchen like 4 times, make some food to eat twice, clean the bathrooms from top to bottom, pick up my desk, and even vacuum the floor in the main living area. Which is pretty good for me considering that in-between times I took a shower, picked up my clothes, let the dogs in and out like 9 times, fixed the food and fed the dogs and cats twice, clean out the dishwasher and put away all the dishes. I did spend a lot of time on the computer, but no TV…didn’t turn it on once yesterday and went to bed without turning it on then either. That’s a plus in my book because I always turn on the damn TV. And you know what I didn’t miss it at all. Not for one second, didn’t think about my shows or what I might not be seeing.

Right now I am sitting at the front room on the computer looking out at the falling snow. It’s so beautiful to look at yet being practical it’s a mess. I did have one miss-hap yesterday…when I went to let the dogs out….I can’t let Lilly out with Champ because they will run….Lilly will take any dog she can on a run….so Snow and Champ are off limits when going out with Lilly. Well she saw a break and she ran for it when I opened the door….I went to grab her and went down on both knees and then to my side. Good thing the Hubby was around because I really took a good fall, he came flying to my rescue, caught the dog….and then helped me up. He offered to get me first but I said no…get the dog. She knew she was bad….she stayed quiet and away for a long time. So today…I have bruises everywhere and my right knee is swollen to twice the size. It’s so exciting around here.

I was going to attempt to go out today to Alexandra’s house to take care of Snowball her rabbit but she just informed me that I don’t have to go…..she has someone else going to do it tonight. Good news for me because I hate driving on this slippery snow covered ground.

Ok time to get a few things done so taking a break from the computer to do some housework. Have a great Sunday.

I felt a crisp cold in the air when I went out today. I quite enjoyed it for some strange reason. I stood on the front deck and took a look around…..not liking what I was seeing though. So many leaves left over and the grounds kind of dug up from cars driving over it when it rains. Half my beautiful horse statue missing from the center of the garden. It was taken apart to keep if from damage and stored in the glass house. Remnants of debris that should have been either removed or fixed before winter. All in all not my winter wonderland at all.

As for me I am trying to come up with my New Year resolution list. I don’t want to make it a long one but perhaps an interesting one. Obtainable goals that I can keep up with rather than a few weeks into the year realizing I am not doing them at all. I can say this with honesty for it has happen year after year. I set all these wonderful goals and before spring they are just passing thoughts.

My dog is lying here comfortable at my feet just waiting for me to move. She has turned out to be quite a creature of comfort. Being a husky you would think she would love the cold weather but no she like all my short haired dogs prefers the comfort of a warm house and even likes watching the fire. My worse regret with getting her is the hair that she sheds. OMG does she shed. Better now than when we first got her but still she leaves a white path where ever she goes. As for her medical condition I hope we have accomplished the impossible and she is over it if not at least through the worst of it. She was an epileptic and went into many secures the first year we brought her home. She was in and out of the doctor’s office along with being on medication. I was told that most likely she would be on meds for life. Yet after a couple of years….we started weaning her off it. The meds were shortening her life even though they were saving it. If she continued to take it she would lose a few months a year until the end, cheating her out of life. So I started testing it and cutting back on the meds. With a few errors and mistakes I have now gotten her off the meds and no sign of a secure for over a year and a half.

Unfortunately she cannot run free like the rest of the dogs and experience the same freedom they do, but I think of it as she being a city dog and always having to be on a leash. I run her during the weather that is permitted on a 20 foot leash and using a golf cart over the fields and hills which all the dogs seem to follow in tow. So she does enjoy it to that extent. She has to be walked on a leash to go do her business or if in the middle of the night she is let out on the back deck. My sister has so graciously volunteered to be her walker since she also takes her own dog on a leash. All in all its working out for the better. She is a happy content dog and has found a place to fill out our hearts including hers. And oh my gosh is she a talker when she gets going. She gets very competitive with Simon the other big mouth in the house.

I am waiting on my hubby to get back home in time to celebrate the New Year…..can you believe that it’s been 38 years we have been together and not one year have we not been together for bringing in the New Year. Quite an accomplishment in today’s age of divorce and trade in. Hehehe….I can only say it takes a lot of work.

Ok am off now to the city to pick up family for a few days of visiting during Christmas break. Have a great weekend.

Here is it the 21st of December and it's pretty cold outside but no snow or hard weather to keep me so I can't get out. This being said I sat down to figure out a good strategy for winter activity to keep me busy on the off days. I opened an article on SPARK 10 things you can do during winter. Unfortunately not one of them fit my bill. I can't Ice Skate, Sky, Snowboard, Go Sledding, or even do the Hiking they suggest without worry that I will end up worse off than I already am. I wish there were things that could be suggested for older people that have arthritis, disabilities and pretty much everything else rather than just concentrating on the healthy viewers. After all if I was in all that good of health I would not be here in the first place.

As much as I enjoy hiking during the fall and spring, the winter where I can not see the ground under me is not a safe bet. So I figured I would give it a shot and come up with a few things I feel I might be able to do and get away with it over winter. Not to mention get out and about. Here goes.

Visit the mall without Shopping....instead of walking around it how about I rent a scooter and just fly around it and enjoy the freedom of speed. ( Walk if you can of course)

Visit Barns & Noble....sit in a big comfy chair and catch up on some reading without having to buy the book. (It's cheating a little but oh so worth the trip.) If you have to spend buy a warm drink to enjoy while you read.

Spend the day at a museum and take the walking real slow so I can enjoy all the art and the talent that I would miss if not there to see. (Maybe take a friend to share the day with)

Volunteer at a local food bank that will keep me busy and active while I get to know some of my neighbors. If I schedule that just a couple of times a month it will be giving back which is always a plus in my book.

Visit a local animal shelter and volunteer....for me I will just stay home and go out to the barn. A few hours out there bending and brushing along with some hugs and treats will give me a good workout. I can do that a couple of times a week and not go out of my way.

Take my Husky that needs to be always on a leash...to the dog park and walk around it at a nice pace a couple of times a week. If all is well let her go and she can play with the other dogs for a while.

Get my butt in gear and start my mornings with some at home exercises....a few to get me going will not take to much time. Some stretches, a few with the bands I have installed at the wall, light leg work.....and of course build that core to help me get going. Don't leave the room until they are done...should be my motto. We are not talking 2 hours here just 15 to 20 minutes will suffice.

Dust all my furniture once a week...that right there will be a workout...I get a lot of dust here in the country side. For those of you in the city...Dust it more often like three times a week. Don't forget those dang nick-knacks - or clean out your dresser drawers. Good exercises and makes for more comfortable living.

Take a winter carriage ride all bundled up just for the fun of it...getting in and out of the carriage will be enough on a cold day. Bundle up warm....of course let someone else hook up the horses. My grandsons hook them up for me to pull the sled or the carriage I do handle the horses through and that is a bit of a workout on occasions. I always invite others over to enjoy it with me....I seldom go alone these days.

Hmmm One more!

Make a commitment to get out every Sunday and go to Church.....at least once if not twice daily. Find a church where it is not required for you to get dressed up and can be more casual. While there get involved with some interesting groups that will require you to be more active. Stay away from the clicks that can only leave you depressed and wear you out trying to belong to something they don't want you to belong to. Remember is not what they give you out of being there....it's what you get out of it. You should leave a church feeling you accomplished something and feeling good about yourself and life around you. If you don't after a couple of tries....FIND A NEW CHURCH. Remember that God helps through that help themselves and we all could use a little self help from time to time.

Hold my horses I think I am coming up with a plan.

Happy Holidays

Joanna

As far as Christmas shopping goes I have barely done any and to make matters worse I hate crowds and I think I am hitting that time of year where there is nothing but crowds. The good news is that all the little kids under 10 are bought for and they are all that really matters. My older grandkids all like MONEY...makes it easy so they can buy their own and get what they want. I do try to buy a little something for each of them. As far as the kids....they all have family of their own so I think I am not going to buy for them.

It seems to me that over the years the cost of competing at Christmas has gotten out of control. So for the last few years.....my kids and I have changed it around and we try to pick a goal or project and work toward that. Last year we gave away 100 blankets to the homeless. This year we have picked 3 families that we feel might or could use our help not only on Christmas but throughout the year. So what will be doing is sending them an anonymous letter this year letting them know we are here and will be helping them out. We request at that time if they can to give us birthdays of all the children under the age of 10. I know there is a total of 7 children in the three families. We send each family a Christmas gift of 150.00 so they can buy gifts for the children or food if needed. Then starting in January we set it up through our bank to pay their electric and gas bills for the next year and help with any rent or house payments depending if anyone in the family has any income. We no longer send cash as we need to make certain the money goes to help the family. All they have to do is drop off the bills to the local bank we have set up for their use. The bank will submit a copy of the bill to our email and we will transfer the funds to pay the bills online. The reason we do it through the bank rather than sending them a check....is the fact that I feel people are proud and when they need help they don't want to be put into a position of having to say thank you every time they turn around. I don't want their children or them to be embarrassed if they happen to run into any of our family. So anonymous is a good way to go. It allows them to take and us to give without putting either of us in an uncomfortable position.

I love the ideal of sending cards to the children throughout the year congratulating them on good grades or jobs well done. We offer little goals that will help them try harder such as summer breaks to a local horse back riding camp, or a weekend trip to SPLASH universe. We've might supply the family with tickets to a live theater show geared toward kids. It all depends on how much money we can supply throughout the year and the needs of the family if they can get back and forth to such events.

You will be surprised how good you feel at the end of the day when you can do something for others. We as a family have decided to do this again this year because we have been lucky enough to stay together and help each other without to many bumps in the road.

Oh well there I go again blabbering on and on.

Have a great Holiday

On a good note I am feeling a little better today. I have started taking pain pills just to get through the day. My lower back and ankle seems to be getting worse as time goes by. I have been eating better or so I think....it doesn't seems to be doing anything for my weight. I don;t weigh myself but I do make assumptions and it sure doesn't seem to be falling off the weight that is.

I was taking advantage of the last of the good weather yesterday and decided to give one of the horses a bath. By the time I was finished my lower back hurt so bad. I had to tie her up to dry and was hoping to get back to braid her mane and tail but unfortunately I was not up to it so I am going back out today to finish her up.

I sit while working and oh my gosh it was so hard to get through the night. It was a pain to get up and down in and out of the chair before the night was over. I sure hope this is not an example of days to come as the weather get colder.

I plan to get to warmer weather but not until after January thus making it a miserable time while here. Enough with the negative side of life. Lets go for the positive. I have re-joined Planet Fitness hoping to make it a regular routine but so far I have not even made one visit. (hehe)

I did get my closet cleaned out. Deciding to donate 1/3 of the clothing to a good cause and packing away all the things I will not wear for the winter left me with a very clean and roomy closet. I put all the purses, shoes, and so forth away that I will not be using. I just hope I remember to open it in the spring before I go out buying new things. When I went into the attic I noticed a whole lot of things I put up there and forgot about. Decoration items for the house....that I have changed over time and stored away and forgot about. Out of sight out of mind is a true statement. My sister was overwhelmed...saying she could furnish two houses with all my junk. It's not junk but might as well be since I am not using it. I have some wonderful paintings....statues....table settings and just little nic-nacs that could be used..... Winter scenes for the colder weather....Spring scenes....well all weather scenes. I use to decorate my home given the season. There is a couple of wonderful pieces of wood furniture...I simply forgot about. We found a whole box of dog toys...that of course she decided to get out again. She has one little Boston Terrier what she wants with the complete box I have no ideal but we will see. She will be bending over picking them up not me.

Ok...time to go I wanted to check in and keep my running going...but I have many things to try to get done today. It's a rainy day but that doesn't keep me out of the barn and away from the horses. Love you all....take care today and enjoy life for as it goes....it's here today and gone tomorrow. We can't get it back to enjoy it while you can.

When it rains it pours or so they say. I am at a point where I can successfully say I have been through it all. To bring you into the loop of things let me start out by telling you a couple of facts. I live in a remote area of Michigan that apparently ATT, CAB LE companies, and the famous DTE ENERGY has over looked when it comes to making updates on their existing equipment or add any equipment at all when it comes to cable companies. With that say....if the wind blows the wrong way we are out of Electric. Now when you live in the country things are a little different. Good points and bad depending on which side of the fence you are sitting at the time. In this case it's always the wrong side, for everything in our home or on our farm depends on electricity to function. So when it's out we are back to mother nature more or less. No heat, no lights, and most of all no running water. Now out of all the things that can go wrong the number one most important is the Water because without water we can not function on many levels. No water to flush the toilets, no brushing teeth, no baths, no water to drink, and mostly in our case no water to give to the animals with horses being the number one issue. We can always go out and pick up a few gallons to drink and give to the smaller animals and use to get your teeth brushed. Still no showers though. We can walk down to the pond and bring up a few large buckets and sit it in the bathrooms to pour into the toilet bowls to flush temporary I suppose. But back to the horses again no water. So the next best thing is to have a generator to hook up to your home and with the help of a little bit of gas all is well so the saying goes.

In my case this is the weekend that it decided not to go so well in fact it has gone haywire. It started with Friday night the lights were flickering on and off then finally half the electric when out in the house but half stayed on...dim but on. No TV's it seems if you turned on a TV it blew the power out and with all the people in my house that was the first issue. They can't survive without the TV...so jumping around turning it off just to watch the circuit blow and then come back on did not give them a clue that something was wrong. I finally had to get upset and tell them to leave the Damn TV's off. Once off the lights came back on Dim but on....no heat all our wood burners and baseboard heat runs on electric. We could not hook the generator up it was the husbands night out. Another Friday night club night. So at 11 pm we all called it a night and curled up in bed. I text-ed Tom early the next morning telling him we were out of electricity and needed him home.

Home he came only to let me know there were more serious problems. It seemed that trying to hook the generator up would not work in this case. We were in trouble and it was only the tip of the iceberg. Update on farm life.....we have WELL water in the country. No city water out here because none of the utility companies want to run lines. Okay, so here is the deal and like I said a first for me. We have two power meters on our house. Both 110 lines coming from the transformer at the pole and then going to the main grid. That gives us 220 service which to run the major things in a house you need 220 like your refrigerators, stoves, washers, driers, heat, and of course the WELL pump. It seems one of the meters from going on and off all the time....over the years decided to short and actually melt against the house. Leaving us with only one meter and 110 services. Explains why we had a power issue. The 110 was not enough to function fully and so the main stuff shut down but the lights and smaller things continued at half power.

DTE Energy came out.....and they were a little shocked but preceded to repair the complete housing unit just outside the house and made sure there was no problem going to the transformer. He was very polite and did his job fully and we now are back up with full power. But, and there is always a but....this is what is the really kicker of the whole deal we are still without the number one item we need in this whole ordeal...W A T E R. We have none.....and it is really beginning to affect us. All my horses had to be turned out into the pastures where we have access to at least partial water. If we can not fix this quickly things will get really stinky around here. Not me...I am off to the granddaughters to have a shower and wash my hair. The rest have to feign for themselves. I am going to pick up some gallons of water for the dogs and maybe to try to get some water to do up the truck load of dishes. But we now have to dig up the WELL and fix the pump that blew during all this electrical problems. We think the power meter caused the pump motor to fry, but that is just an uneducated guess at the moment. In all the years we lived here we have never had a pump problem so this is a first for me to face. I have no ideal what the cost will be. I did ask about putting in a new well on a different area of the property the cost ran 5,000 and up depending on how deep they had to drill. I guess we will let that go and try to fix this now....but it all takes time and time is not on our side when it comes to water for the horses.....we go through about 125 gallons a day just so they can drink. There is no way we can carry that much in 5 gallon buckets back and forth from the lake or pond on a daily basis.

So here we go again for another great country adventure that I can add to my stories if I ever decided to write a book.

Sounds like a perfect solution, but I don't have the room anywhere to put anything that large. It would get in the way and I would get nothing but complaints from others. Its a hard decision I know. My grandson had to take his weight lifting equipment and move it into the barn so he would have room the work out. The solution would be to get a bigger house but that is not about to happen. Thanks for the top though.

Have you considered looking for something you'll do at home, if you need a work buddy to go out? I have an exercise bike in my basement - it's recumbent style, so I can sit back and read AND get my heart rate up!

I want to think I am doing just great but in reality I am not doing all that hot. I set all these wonderful plans and then somewhere down the line they get side stepped and my goals are not being met. I was so gun hoe on getting in shape after my accident. I was going to lose weight and do all my physical therapy so that I could get back on one of my horses. Here I am two years later and I am not better off then when I started. Yes I don't use a walker, or a wheelchair, no cane, and I seem to be getting around on my own. But, and there is always a but, I have lost no weight to speak of 10 lbs here and there maybe but over all it seems like I might have gained more back. I have memberships in several health clubs, Fitness USA, Planet Fitness, Snap, and even at the fitness center where I was doing my physical therapy. The problem is that I don't go. No matter which I chose I have to travel to get to them, and these days that seems like an ordeal. I have nobody to travel with me so there goes my workout buddy system that I was so hoping for. To make matters worse I live with two boys that love to eat in the middle of the night. I am so sick of food yet I eat when its in front of me. It's like I have no will power, yet I feel like I should be able to control it.

I am desperate to get in a healthier situation so I am thinking of leaving home for a few months...just to give me a break away from the routine here. I am not sure that will help me, but I am thinking it might. It might be my ticket to saving my life at this point in time. Winter is coming on and I hate to go out in the cold, my old bones are not what they use to be and all the breaks held together by screws and pins do not react to well to cold. This means I will not get out and drive to any destination unless its an emergency. I could say I will set up and do the exercising at home but I know that will fall through. I won't last long doing that it never works out for me like that. Someone or something requires my attention and therefore I worry about that and not myself.

I am thinking I need to be somewhere I can worry only about myself for a while. Not a week or two on a vacation but somewhere I can be that will seems normal and I can come up with a game plan to get not fit..for that is out of the question, just healthier. Lighter weight so I will not be so hard on my knees, and my damaged foot. So I can enjoy being out with my family and friends. Maybe ride a horse but that is not my main concern right now. If I manage to be able to just spend more time with the horses that will make me happy.

But, here we go with that but again, but, right now I need to sit down and seriously need to take another good long look at what is going on around me and make some changes. Small ones at first until we lead into winter than more serious ones. I am thinking of leaving for 3 to 4 months to travel to Las Vegas and become a snowbird for the winter. I have to wait until January at least the hubby is leaving with half the family to Thailand in December. So maybe January, February, and March I can get away to a warmer climate and nothing going on there that will take away from the ME time. It will be all about me...and getting better. Right now...I have to go back into therapy says my doctor because I am having difficulty walking again. She is putting me into water therapy which is not too bad to handle. I just hope I can stick to it. Running back and forth an hour each way every other day is not my ideal of quality time. I usually hold out for 4 or 5 weeks before I quit, this time I am going to give it the 12 week shot she is requesting, well at least that is my thought for now.

Wish me luck.

It often happens but when it does it just seems to add so much chaos to any situation. We lost electricity again for the umpteenth time a couple of nights ago. Some solar outage not all the electric went it was one of the strangest outages I have ever seen. Different areas of the house and farm would go out and come back on over and over. I was already in bed when it started to happen so I just pulled up the covers and went off to sleep.

BIG MISTAKE, when I woke up the next morning everything was fine right up until I went to get on the computer. It was fried. I tried to start it up a few times then gave up and headed to the front room to another computer. Great! I got right on there to do some work on my big touch screen which I seldom use, but wanted anyway. I installed the program called last PASSWORD which my son said would be great for me since I use so many passwords. I clicked on it and hmmmmmm could not remember the password I used when we set it up. I clicked on the recover password and they sent me a link that of course I clicked where my hidden question was. I read that question over and over how the heck was I suppose to know how many passwords I had. That was my question. How many passwords to you have? My mind started to work over time …. too many, way to many, 1 to many, 1 2 many, 1 2 many 4 me, and so on and so on but nothing was working. Without getting into last password I could get into nothing else that I needed.

I called my wonderful son that talked me into putting this crap on my machine. I told him about both computers...he said bring them to me. So I gathered them up and headed out for the hour drive to his house. I was praying that he could salvage my laptop and if not at least crack the last pass problem. Not to mention my laptop had tons of programs on it that can not be replaced without me buying them all over again.

Now here I sit in almost the dark, on a little 10 inch laptop that can be separated into a tablet with nothing on it not even an OFFICE program, which will cost me hundreds to install. My fingers are bigger than the keyboard, but of course it gets me online and into my mail. I had to leave my big 22 inch screen laptop at my wonderful sons house. He said I fried it and the more I turned it on and off that first day the more damage I did. He will replace the hard drive, but he can not promise to retrieve any of the content. He will try but no promised, and as far as the programs …. I can throw that out the window.

I came home from his house last night feeling pretty sad not knowing how I am going to handle my work load. The good news is that I found a thumb drive that has about 80% of my passwords on it. The rest I can change once I get back into the main servers. I have learned one thing maybe two.

1st TURN OFF MY COMPUTER WHEN THERE IS A STORM NO MATTER WHAT.
2nd BACK UP ALL THE TIME INSTEAD OF EVERY SIX MONTHS.

It's been a while since I have made any major post in any of my teams. So I think I might as well sit down and try to catch up at once. Not that there is a lot to catch up on but you never know. Someone out there just might be sitting behind their computer asking what became of Joanna.

I've been sick really sick...with Allergies and a bad sinus cold. It settled in my lungs and turned into ammonia. I am on the upside of recovery now but it took almost a month to get me here. As most of you know I live in the country on a horse farm in Michigan. Just one week into September I can see the trees and landscape change colors. Beautiful gold and red is blossoming right in front of my eyes. The nights are getting cooler and some of my flowers are giving way already. I have one more of HAY to cut in order to have enough to feed all the horses over the winter. However if the sunshine doesn't stay warm enough to dry out the crop once it's cut I could lose the whole thing and be forced to go out and buy hay. I need sunshine and strong wind to help with the fields. I am keeping my fingers crossed. We already lost 1/2 of the second cutting because of the rain. I am so afraid that Winter is coming to early and it's planning on being a hard one.

On a good note walking or riding the trails are beautiful right now. I use a golf cart to run my dogs along the paths of our property and oh my how lovely the colors are looking. After spending two years and over 50,000.00 we can say we no longer have any wire fencing lest on the farm. We are the proud owners of brand new split rail hard wood fencing around all the pastures, arena and grounds. Whoopee!

Show season is over for us...for the year anyway. I am cleaning everything up and putting it in storage for next year. We plan to really go out next year...will be my last year with the girls together so we are going to really do some traveling with the horses. After that I leave it in the hands of he girls...for the traveling part. I will stick to watching the local shows and maybe the nationals if they qualify.

If's official my sister moved in with me...for the final time. If she leaves again that's it for my efforts. Right now it's nice having her. I made sure she went to see the doctor and is now on antidepressants for her bi-polar. She helps me out so much inside the house. She keeps it clean for me...and does all the laundry so just that makes her a treasure. We are a big house here and it takes a lot of work to stay on top of it.

I have a busy September, 4 family birthdays that I have to attend. My oldest grandson is getting married on the 27th, one of my granddaughters just bought her first home and is having a house warming party the week before. Living where I live means a lot of driving to get to all the different venues, but being a good parent and grandparent I will make sure I am there rain or shine.

Sounds awesome, though!

We went out to some trails in Pinckney this weekend, to break in my husband's new hiking boots. Within 5 minutes, the sole fell off one of mine, but I've had my boots for about 20 or so years now. Still. We ended up driving up to Howell and the Merrell outlet to get me new ones for our trip next week. I'm going to MA this weekend for my niece's baptism, so we didn't have any other time.

I know what you mean about mosquitoes...I live in the country on a lake and they are just everywhere this year. I am dealing with it though. I just got back from going to DC...did so much walking there I think my legs were about ready to give out.

We are taking a cruise and then spending a week, doing a self-guided land tour.

After this winter, though, nothing is cold! The average temperature during the day is 65, which I find quite pleasant. Given the fact that the mosquitoes are as big as birds, I'm okay with being covered up all day. Ha ha.

Sara sounds like fun....I also have one coming up but a short one just 5 days. We are driving from Michigan to Virginia and making stops along the way to visit new places we have not seen before. DC being one of them I will be seeing the White House for the first time up close and personal. How about you where do you plan to vacation at?

I have been missing all the good stuff going on around here. I was so busy with the horseshow this past week I just could not keep up with SPARK. I was on a couple of times but only to check in not check out things. I will be taking some time to catch up on conversations and what not.

It's raining here has been for two days I hope everyone is enjoying the weather where they are. As much as we are not able to enjoy the rain it is appreciated and need for the crops.

I tried today to stick to my guns and keep on track...beginning with a piece of toast and yogurt for breakfast, for lunch just a bowl of chicken vegetable soup...no bread or beverage other than water. However on dinner is where I ate the most of my calories. I took some blankets to the laundry mat to wash them because they were too big for my machine. While out we stopped at a little Mexican restaurant on MSU campus. I ordered a combo...taco...2 enchiladas, a tamale with rice and beans. I only ate 1/2 of everything...the taco....1 enchiladas and half the rice and beans...no tamale (I don't like them anyway). I think I did pretty well over all for my first day back to the buckboard. I also put in almost 2 hours of heavy cleaning today..mopping floors, changing beds, doing windows, and cleaning one of three bathrooms.

Did I mention before that I cut all my hair off...never in my life had it this short...and of all things I died it RED....I am a blonde (no the dumb blond type) but blonde with a lot of gray running through it right now. So with blonde hair your gray is not a pretty gray its a mousy gray at that...which I hate. So I have always colored the gray...that old saying wash the gray away..was me. But, this time around I decided to go all the way and do something really strange...I did it bright red or auburn red I guess you can say. I sent a shocker to everyone here at home.

Good Morning Everyone, Hope to introduce myself. I am Joanna....living in the Ann Arbor Area. I love on a horse farm in the country side and enjoy country living but when I want to get to the city and enjoy the excitement of an entertaining, friendly atmosphere I come to Ann Arbor. I enjoy the downtown area with all the little cafes and places to sit and watch the crowds go by.

I am older with my family grown I have managed to pack on a few extra pounds that I really need to get rid of and get back into a healthy life style. I am open for suggestions and will be here to offer any motivational help I can along your journey to a better life style.

I am looking to kick the meds I have to take for high blood pressure and cholesterol too.

Hi, all,

HYATTI1 graciously offered to be one of the team leaders so I added her and removed myself. I'm sure she'll add a lot to the group.

Thanks for the warm wishes, SARBAH77. I'm not quite done yet, but I will be soon enough. Hope that you feel better soon!

Hi Rosie - Well, I'm still around, I just don't have a lot to say these days! Congrats on finishing your PhD!

Everyone else - whew, I've been battling a virus-turned-infection for over a week now. It's totally wiped me out. I missed most of a week of work and haven't even had energy to eat. We got the results of the blood work today, so we know now it's an infection and I can start a course of antibiotics and hopefully feel better ASAP!

Hi, all,

I've mentioned this about a year ago, but I haven't been able to give time to this team since the birth of now daughter. I am now wrapping up my PhD this summer and will be moving out of state to start a new job. If there are people who want to get this team more active, please let me know and I'd be happy to add new leaders.

Funny thing is I would have expected more from the team but it seems that not much is going on here so I do not come as I should and there is no one to build a support team with or for.

I hope you are enjoying your family time. Bum knees are a pain in the butt...strange that they make their way around the body like they do. :) I have been able to get out and about did some walking yesterday and a bit of food shopping. I try to split my shopping up into multiple stores just so I get in more walking. We are getting some melting well sort of....making it a mud trap. Living in the country has it's ups and downs. I am over in Fowlerville...just east of Lansing and west of Brighton. We have some acres and raise horses. A ton of hard work but the benefits are wonderful. I am out today to get some running around out of the way. I hope you have a great day...but it does say Winter is not over yet for us.

Hi Joanna!

Well, my parents have been in town this weekend. They live in MA, so it's not that warm for them, either, but it's not as cold as we've had it. Today was pretty cold, so my mom made a triple batch of beef stew for our freezer. Maybe the weather will turn before we can eat it all?

I'm sorry to hear about your leg - I've been dealing with a bum knee, but it sounds a lot easier than what you're dealing with!

Let's see...how did you like this last bit of snow. We got between 10 and 12 inches where I am at....the Hubby is still out there plowing the grounds. I live in the country on a horse farm so with the snow we get the drifts. I am so over winter...I want warm weather. My son told me the farmers almanac says we are getting an extremely hot and dry summer. I am not looking forward to that either since I have horses and need the rain for the hay.

I just started a new eating routine that my doctor signed me up with a nutritionist to help me with eating disorders. I am hoping to loose the 75 lbs. I put on while laid up with a shattered leg after an auto accident. I so want to get back on my horses and ride.

I don't about you all , but the holiday food exposure and trips has me hard at balancing out all those extra carbs. I left my food journal behind when I should not of. I thought routine eating same stuff and amounts would get hard wire in by now. So when offered food that I normally don't eat it is impossible to keep accurate on my intake. To be honest I got lazy.
So any way I am in the process of picking up and keeping a food and activity journal on paper to keep me on my new life style. Winter has me doing indoor workouts and some power walks outdoors. Have a great day

This board has been really quiet for some time. How is everyone doing?

Let's just say that... perhaps at some point, I tested your theory and maybe it's not 10 pounds worth but it does make a big difference. I laughed.

So good luck with your efforts to quit smoking. And remember to follow your PT's instructions! :)

That's why i am not going to worry about the weight so much. Hubby still smokes so it is always a temptation. The longest I have lasted is 1 1/2 year. It has really opened my eyes about how it affects others so even when I smoke I do it outside so it won't bother people. Scale is bad today but i think thats because of back problems. Dr asked me if I was having problems with BM but I didn't relate it to back but now realize I am having problems going even with stool softners. That can make scale go up 10lbs. At least that's what Im telling myself ( lol) Have a good day and I will think of you at PT

ooh! Good luck with that; that's got to be one of the hardest things you can ever do!

Good luck with PT. I really loved my physical therapists, between the knee surgery and stress fracture, but now I'm down to seeing a personal trainer again. My right leg is still very weak but I'll get there! Hopefully, it'll help me shed 5-10 more pounds, too. :)

Today was pretty miserable weather. It's been a long time since we've had an all day soaking rain like that!

Worry about your health first! Right now I'm not doing too well on the diet as I just quit smoking (again) Has been a month now and I have only put on a few lbs so thats good. Normally I pack on about 10 the first week. Also having a problem with my back so not much exercise going on but start PT tomorrow so hopefully will get some relief. Right now if I even walk it makes my whole leg swell up. Pinched the Siatica and can barely stand on my right leg. Anyway take care of that knee.

It really is! I'm certainly no help; would you like to join in moderator duties?

I'm considering walking the Dexter Ann Arbor 5k again this year. I'm not sure I'll be allowed to, what with my major knee surgery then the stress fracture, since we're still trying to fix me just right!

Wow, it's been 2 months since anyone posted here? Yikes!

Well, I had MAJOR knee surgery on 10/13. I got home from the hospital on the 14th and, until I go in to MedSport on the 26th, my instructions are "do nothing." I'm sure you can imagine the unfun of this. Luckily, my mom has been around to cook and clean and stuff!!

Leigh, did you go to the deli or Zingerman's Roadhouse? The latter is further from downtown but it's got some really awesome food.

Stuccis is our local ice cream shop - the ice cream is made locally, too! Kilwins is a tasty chocolate shop, also Michigan-based.

Our city and county parks are nice to visit and pretty inexpensive, too!

Kay, I was on vacation! Home now, glad to be here.

leigh! Tell us more about your interests!

For example, campus has a great art museum and a fun natural history museum. The main drag through downtown is nothing but restaurants. Tell us what you like (steak? italian? vegetarian? breweries?) and we can help point you in the right direction!

I aggrevated the tendonitis in both shoulders and put my lower back into spasms when shoveling. Maybe some year my DH and I will remember to buy a snowblower, early.

I stayed in this weekend. Finally a plow came down our street at about 2pm. Abour 48 hours earlier than that big storm we had last December. Anyway, good news since we usually have to turn left on to a busy road and doing it through 9" of snow is kind of... difficult!

Enjoying the snow. Wish I could get out there and help shovel. It's great exercise and afterward you don't need to worry about going to the gym for the day.

I had my granddaughter over last night while her parents went to a scary movie. I think they fed her too much candy during the day though because she cried the whole time she was here. She is usually happy to stay with me.
