Gotcha, thanks for clearing that up. I know you can do it...your expectations are right on target. Just set a plan and stick to it.....I myself am trying to loose 100 lbs but I put goals for myself of 20 lbs at a time so I don't get overwhelmed. I am one of those that get depressed in not seeing quick results and give up. I am making little goals so they can be reached easier for me.

Welcome Teddybeargirl..... Did I read that right you want to be down to 90 lbs or you want to drop 90 lbs? If you want to be only 90 LBS you must be a very small little thing. My 12 year old granddaughter weights more than that. And if you are hoping to get down to 90 lbs by the end of October you must have less than 5 lbs to loose. Gosh....girl.

I am brand new i dont live too far from AnnArbor, My name is Amanda, im 29 , i have boyfriend, and a dog named roxy... I also love the outdoors, and reading, i am a sports fanatic.. Love hockey...

I am currently trying to lose a pound a week or a pound every other week. id like to lose 90 lbs at the least by october at the latest.

I just moved to Ann Arbor in February. The past couple of years have had a lot of life changes. Got married, lost my mom, moved to a new home, lost my dad, and am looking for a new job in Ann Arbor. I have gained 35 lbs in the past 2 years - and am heavier than I have ever been. Time to take care of me - we live near some really great nature areas - and I need to get active, healthy and motivated.

Hi. My name is Brit. I am 29 and live in Ann Arbor. I begin a graduate program and a new job this fall so I want to be healthier overall with weight loss being a byproduct of that for this new phase in my life. I have started exercising, but I realize that it is easier to stay motivated when I have a support system. I attend classes at A2 Yoga. However, I am open to visiting other spas/ gyms and just walking or doing other free forms of exercise. It would be nice to meet workout buddies, but I am also open to just being a support system as well.

hi folks
its great to have support and drive to lose it and figuring the why and the how come.
We give all the excuses of not exercising and eating for other reasons besides hunger. Age and being busy and the rest of the yada. I live in the Ann Arbor Area and post being young ,at almost 60 . but the couch is not your friend at night nor the computer and sitting for hours until bed. I found excuses to get off the duff and not to go to the kitchen for a snack after dinner. Any thing to get the body moving I hope all of you find your spark and do it . do it with intensity and your best , because your stronger then you think.
Still Maintaining, the battle and the adventure of my new life continues. Never go back to the old behavior.

As a post-menopause, 57 year old Ann Arbor lady, working full time, and I know I need motivation to stick with my health and weight loss goals. I have made a lot of changes in the past few years cutting out soda, products with aspartame, drinking lots of water and making whole grain choices. I walk and swim and try to stay active, but as I have heard as you age, there is a limit to my energy. I know I would have more energy if I wasn't carrying around extra pounds. My goals is reasonable at this time to loose 10 pounds. For some reason, I think if I can loose 10 pounds, see how I feel, and set the next goal to loose 10 more, and do it in chunks, I will feel more accomplished! So that's my hope. I am currently at 204. I met with a nutritionist through a local clinic, I have guidelines, good healthy recipes and now I need to DO IT!!!! I am also keeping a food journal, as I recently read an article that confirms that women, as they try to loose weight are more successful if they write down every thing they eat! So, I am glad to join a motivated group of people.

Hi all,

First post on sparkpeople--hope this works! My story: I gained 25 pounds in 2007 in the midst of a bad relationship, and although that's long in the past, I've never been able to lose more than 10 pounds of the weight (the same 10 pounds over and over again--ugh!). Now that I'm working full time at the U, I've become much less active and am losing muscle tone. My goal is to lose weight and get stronger by my 30th birthday next year!

I'm a 41-yr-old mom of 2 (15 & 9) and a PhD student at U of M. I used SparkPeople to lose about 20 lbs in 2006. Came to grad school in 2009 and it has crept back on. :-(

Hi, my name is Misty, I live in Saline. I have 8 children, half have graduated and the other 4 are 5, 6, 7, and 14. My husband has Multiple Sclerosis and is completely bedridden and has minimum use of his right hand. I've had lots of stress over the last 8 years which resulted in 2 heart attacks. I have no blocked arteries and my cholesterol was "excellent" so though I'm overweight the heart problems have been attributed to stress. And I do feel paralyzed at times with my husbands illness but I have decided to do what I can to lose the weight. I started walking and it has helped. I had researched a lot when my husband was first diagnosed about healthy eating and such. We've done the cleanses and all that (prior to the heart attacks) now it's time to just eat right, walk when I can and not let my daughter bake. ☺

I can't believe I have paid to use web sites just like this in the past! UGH! It has everything the Weight Watchers web site! I live in Ypsi, started running again recently and am started a new meal plan with our family. Right now we are the "fatty mcfaterson" family. UGH! With a new job where I can work from home it allows me more time to cook! My last job was not conducive to a healthy lifestyle...and I am thankful that I am now able to live my best life. Hi I'm Kelly. I technically live in Ypsi but I'm right on the border. I've lived in the A2/Ypsi area for five years now. I'm recovering from an eating disorder so I can't really safely count calories but I am trying to establish a healthy diet. I'm also trying to become more active. I was told I was too clumsy for much as a kid which became a self-fulfilling prophecy that I was only able to start letting go of at 18 (I'm a decade past that now and I've reverted back to the couch a lot since I started dating my boyfriend three years ago). I don't know that I'll ever really be athletic but I know I can be in better shape than I am!

Hey guys! I'm hoping that this site (and community) will help me stay motivated and continue to make myself healthier. Over the last month, I've realized that now is the time that I want to start teaching myself to be healthier, so that when I'm older, it'll be easier for me to have a healthy diet and exercise plan.
I'm a senior at UM, and know that this next year is going to be crazy and so will all the years after that. If I don't start now, I don't think I ever will.

I've been tracking my calories for quite some time at another place, but especially since I've become vegetarian (maybe vegan, I'm not sure yet), it has become much more important for me to keep track of my nutrient intakes as well. At first I wasn't sure about this site, but after poking around a bit I think I like it better overall.

I don't really need to lose weight, although my BMI says I am overweight. I do a LOT of strength training, which is where a measurement like BMI falls short. In any case, I have been losing weight and will most certainly continue to lose weight a lot faster than I was expecting to. If anyone needs help figuring out how to make quick, healthy foods (even non veg*n) or other info, let me know.

Hi, new to the site. I'm a graduate student and am trying really hard to lose weight. Difficult because I have patellar tendonitis in both knees and struggling with PCOS. Used to be very active before moved to A2 for graduate school. Used to run about 3 miles 4 x's/wk, weight training 3x's/wk (bench pressed 70 lbs!), and step aerobics + swimming. Things changed with grad school life. But I'm still trying! Just got back from gym. Did 20 min elliptical and walked home 20 mins. Hope this site will help me track my progress!

I guess I need so start getting involved here - hoping that will "spark" myself to stay motivated. I am a work from home mom of 4, all 10 and under, so most days are juggling kids/work/afterschool activities... but overall, trying to get healthy for myself and them. Losing weight along the way :)

I joined Spark while ago but just started utilizing all the great tools! I work at a Landscape Architecture firm (mostly for fun), I am an attorney and I do volunteer work. I am going to do a few 5ks this Spring and need to get in shape (and lose 15 - 20 pounds). I am joining the YMCA soon and would be happy to have a workout buddy.

Hello fellow Ann Arborites! I'm a recent engineering grad from UM and started working at Ford in the fall. I now sit on my butt for about 10 hours a day, and am not too happy with the couple pounds I've put on in the last few months. I'm hoping some more conscientious eating and diligent gym going will help me get back to a healthier weight!

Hello! I moved to A2 this past June and work midnights at the U of M hospital. I JUST started the C25K program and hope to run a 5K, perhaps this summer if there is one nearby that entices me. I have a membership at the YMCA so if there is anyone else who would like to have a workout buddy for lifting weights or trying out classes together I'm open :)

Hi! I'm Jax, and I've been living in Ann Arbor for about a year and a half now.

I'm a grad student in the physics department at U of M, and this has been very bad for my health. My weight, not so much- I come from a rather lean phenotype and was exercising heavily around puberty- but it's a real downer when I still weigh what I always have but can't do half the things I used to be able to do!

Hi all, just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Adam and I have recently began my weight loss/fitness journey.

I am 25 years old and have been progressively gaining weight since I graduated high school. I have recently taken a position that allows me to work remotely/at home and have been more sedentary than ever lol. It is time for a change.

I randomly discovered this site but I LOVE what I have seen so far. Hoping that finding a community type environment will help a lot. I am born and raised in Ann Arbor and love this town more than ever.

Thanks for the kind welcome and reassurance Leslie! I know we both can do it! I was I was on sparkpeople before I was pregnant and lost 30 pounds then I was on babyfit (branch of sp) while I was pregnant but only used the boards really didnt track calories or anything like that. I had a horrible time being pregnant so much that I dont want to ever be again! I was sick for 8 months! I couldnt bare the thought of any foods, was on nausea pills that didnt work. I lost weight at first then I started being able to handle noodles and bread and that is basically what I lived on! Bad white carbs that turned into BAD hard to lose fat! I have 30 pounds to lose to get to prepregnancy weight! It is so worth it in the end but sad to say I think my little one is going to be an only child, especially if I reach my goals!

Hi, Dawn. Welcome to the team and best of luck in your move and in your journey to lose. I gained 80 lbs with my first and didn't ever really lose it. Then I had three more over the course of 10 years. Now my baby is 10 years old and I am finally working on the 100 extra pounds that I had gained. I have lost a total of 47 of them though. There is hope, believe me! This is a great place to find support in your journey!

I grew up in Ann Arbor. I now live in Milan, a little town 10 miles south of A2. I think you will like it here. Please friend me and keep in touch. Hi all! I am Dawn a 26 year old stay at home mom (for now). Have my teaching license in Elementary Ed. I have always been overweight but after my difficult pregnancy I now weigh more than I ever have and am very depressed about it. It has definitely put a damper on even wanting to try for a job or to do much of anything productive in society because the way I feel about myself. I have about 78 pounds to lose to be considered at a healthy weight! Wow that's overwhelming just thinking about it..

My husband just got a new job and we will be moving into the Ann Arbor area from Lafayette, IN in a couple of weeks. I am very nervous as I have lived here all my life and we will be away from family and friends. I am trying to stay positive and think of this as a fresh start and now we will actually have more money to live better in all aspects. I am ready for a new start for me and my daughter too. I have been forcing myself to eat more fruits and veggies with her since she has started on table foods and even ate peas a few times which I hate but she loves! I just keep telling myself one step at a time.... Look forward to being an active member of this team and watching the pounds go away!

Hi, I was born in A2 and have lived within half an hour of it my whole life. I am 40 now and the mother of four girls, ages 20, 18, 14, and 10 now. I am happily married to Hubby #2 for three years, together 10 years. I have been on SP for about 7 weeks now, and am enjoying getting healthier. Since January I have lost 45 lbs, with 55 still to go. Hi everyone, I'm Anne and I'm new to sparkpeople. I'm currently hovering around 175lbs and looking to drop at least 35 of those. My biggest issue is being a very busy single mom (two jobs, plus plans to go back to school, and planning to move soon), and not having a lot of time to really to exercise besides all the running around I do as a waitress in the evenings. Hi everyone! I'm new to SparkPeople, and this group, but not as much to the Ann Arbor area. I've been living here for about a year, and I finally feel like I'm taking advantage of all of it's resources.

When I began I was 142 lbs and 5'2". Since I'm not working right now, I'm taking this opportunity to work out a lot and try and learn how I can fit it in to my everyday life, and learn how to stay at it when I am busier. I'm down to 137 lbs so far, and am excited to keep at it. My goal weight during the intense workout regimen is 125 lbs, and I want to ease up and lose weight slower until I feel really good about myself at around 115-110.

Hi! I'm a newbie, to this group AND to SparkPeople. I have tried and failed in this weight loss game many times, and am hoping that some support will help.

On a positive note, I started running (Couch to 5k Plan) in October and I have run 4 5k's since then. I wouldn't say I'm addicted to running, it's VERY hard for me, but I do feel very good for doing it. It's improved my fitness a lot, but haven't lost much weight.

Anyway, look forward to "meeting" you all!

Hello!

The weight loss tracker is on your Spark Page. You can edit the settings to show the tracker either by pounds or by weight lost. Hope that helps you find it!
