The eye issue has pretty much resolved itself, just a little feeling in the corner where I was messing with it, but it's fine now... I think I just messed with it too much!!

Sharon - and anyone else... when one of us wins the multiple millions of dollars on the lottery, we can charter a private plane and go have tea with Wispy... (of course, that requires buying tickets I guess - I don't very often).

Now, I'm going to go over and check out November... emoticon

Hope you are enjoying the time with your Mom Koshie and that the awful weather conditions are not affecting you all.

Betty, so wish that would be possible. A friend came over for coffee this morning and we sat out on the back porch and idled the time away chatting and laughing. She says how lovely it is when she's here, so peaceful and she feels as if she could be anywhere. No sense of the City just half an hour away by car. Although it takes me over an hour on the bus, so many windy roads to pick people up along the way. Some people over the back down by the creek have doves and they call to each other morning and evening. I have a friend called Allen who lives in Oregon :) Haha of course you know him, you know everyone in Oregon. He's currently away visiting friends in Georgia. Have I spelled that right? Wouldnt it be funny if you were next door neighbours.

Ive just posted over in Novemeber. xx

Tomorrow is the first day of November!!! Can it really be? - Anyone making Thanksgiving plans yet? @Wispy, I don't suppose you do Thanksgiving over where you are, do you?

Just out of curiosity, I went to mapquest a little while ago and put in Oregon to New Zealand (I was going to run over and have tea with you Wispy)... but Mapquest said they could find no route from Oregon to New Zealand.... Imagine that! I guess I won't be there after all. LOL.
(the things I do when I get tired)~~~

I have one eye that's been burning all evening, It feels like there might be something in it, but I can't see anything - I'm going to put some drops in it in a few minutes when I go to bed. It's probably red now because I've been messing around with it all afternoon.

I live in a gated community. For reasons unknown, NOBODY ever comes trick-or-treating here, not even the kids who live here. I am disappointed! I have seasonal decorations I suppose I should get rid of... since there are no children to enjoy them.

I apologize to all of you, I guess when I re-read my post from the other day if it implied that it was my birthday. I just meant that I was another year older than I was last year. My birthday actually is in July. Sorry for the misunderstanding...... emoticon Guess I should have read it a little closer.........

Betty yes, Happy Birthday, I thought maybe from your post it was that time for you, and then forget to mention it.

Big hugs and I hope you had a great time whatever you decided to do.

It is so devasting what has happened in the US and New York, I can hardly believe it. Somehow you never think of anything like that happening in New York. So many losses and no power for millions we heard on the news last night, not to mention the cost of the aftermath. Like our earth quakes over here. So devasting.

I just need to add while we celebrate so much in our lives, that we take sometime to absorb the stark reality of the east coast.
50 deaths and so many people with such devastation, our thoughts, hearts and prayers to them all.

Happy Birthday Betty!

I will say it, I always do...where does the time go?

No treats here. We don't get trick or treaters here in the resort, very few children and mine is 14 and we already took her to a spook house that scared the bees out of us both. Gosh I am getting to old for this sort of thing. I can not believe over the years how they have become so gross and life like or at least what I couldn't even imagine or want to imagine...never have gotten into having my wits scared out of me. Oh what we don't do for the children in our lives.

Beautiful here, cool nights, chilly actually 56 this morning...I love it! Day is in mid 70's. Not to fear warmer temps around the corner.
Heading to the Keys this week end. Company is giving the guys it off in prep for the 7/12s they will be working until the Christmas break which may not even happen...ugh. They have already started to prepare them for the possibility they may have to work through. Many of management replace the hourly ones that do call in or do not show up during the holidays...oh well it just goes with the job. After all these years I just go with the flow and make the best out of it. No sense in getting my panties in a bundle. emoticon
I am excited about the Keys, so all is good! emoticon

Koshie have a blessed safe trip and enjoy your family! Will miss you!

I was not going to give out anything, didn't want to give poison to the kids or tempt us. Hubby said I must give out treats. Have a couple organic gummy bears, raisin packages and a couple dozen halloween pencils.
Is another year older a Happy Birthday to Betty?

Im with you Betty, cannot believe its almost Christmas again. Seems like last week it was that time of year in many ways, and yet when I look back I have done so much this year I never expected to do in my life time - it has been truly wonderful.

Yep, I know what you mean most people have no interest in what I eat or dont eat, or why. Its a non issue for most people. Like smoking and drinking. When I stopped drinking no one even noticed (cept for fellow drinkers of course lol), no one cares let alone wants to hear about it. Food was such a big part of my life for so long, I am just grateful that now it is no longer my focus of attention - there is so much to do and enjoy in life. Being free of thinking about food morning noon and night (which was the way it was for me) is an enormous blessing and one for which I am very grateful.

DS and I both had steak and salad for lunch as it turned out yesterday. Funny really it was actually the most appealing choice on the menu. We could have had chips, but neither of us is really a chip lover, unless they are really crisp and golden.

I dont have a problem with candy at all, actually never liked it. Cakes and desserts are my speciality and chocolate.

One more day of October. is that possible?? I don't know where this year has gone - and now I'm another year older! emoticon . Guess that's life.

Got an email from my son this morning, all is well where is, they've been helping out some of the neighborhood with downed trees, branches and other fallen things.. He had the day off today since all non-essential gov't offices were closed. He said so many people were without power.

It's been a beautiful day here today... overcast, but only a few sprinkles this morning (while I was walking, of course). We were supposed to have heavy rains yesterday and today, but hasn't happened yet. Now, they say tomorrow - hope the little kiddo's have a chance to get out in all their little costumes for awhile, although a lot of schools and some churches are having "parties" tomorrow evening.

No candy here and I'm staying away from ALL the candy areas at the stores - of course, once this is gone there will be Christmas candy out. Actually, I really don't have a problem with candy as such, thankfully. Now, some pastries would be a different story... I'm learning to just stay away from those as well.

I am hoping to hear from my Aunt who lives in North Carolina.
When somebody "notices" my food choices in a negative way, I give them a big grin and tell them "Look, I'd LOVE to eat that _____, it smells so good -- but you can't argue with success! Look at me! 30 pounds lighter and glowing with health! My doctor is SO pleased with the results of my blood tests!" They shut up real fast.

I know it is impossible, on the tracker here they have jicama listed so incorrectly that it came up as the new miracle food LOL It was a great sub as fries though and healthy.

I have learned not to share even when there is an open form of discussion on some teams. A team I use to enjoy, but has changed. USE to is the key word. Take the good leave the bad and move on. It is so much fun being the adult and knowing we have a freedom to choose. LOL

Hi Dayle and welcome to our bunch. Glad to have you here to share with the rest of us.

I got a text from my son in DC, saying how stormy it was there, but haven't heard from him since, I'd not be surprised if he is without power by now. Not really worried about him, he's pretty resourceful, but by the same token - a bit adventurous... hope he has sense enough to stay inside. That's quite the storm they are having...

Hope none of you live back in that area - or have family affected by it.

Our weather has been unseasonably warm and humid. I did get to walk this morning without rain, but almost too warm. It's still about 60 at 10:30 at night.

Wispy, I'm with you - I don't discuss what I eat or don't eat with people when I'm out, no one cares anyhow I don't think. When I pass the bread by,no one says anything - nor do I tell others what or how to eat either. If someone asks a question I'll answer it, but don't elaborate. It's easier that way than all these food discussions.

And now I'm going to bed... G'night everyone!

Betty

Well, the idea of a "negative carb count" messes with MY head! I don't see how it is possible. Total carbs includes the fiber, ALL the fiber, plus whatever amount you can digest. U can't possibly have more fiber than carbs because however much fiber you have, it should ALL be reflected in the total carb count! At best, once you subtract the fiber, you get "0", not a negative number.

Perhaps this is someone's idea of a Halloween TRICK!

Hi Dayle, welcome to the team. Yes we are often quite a chatty bunch, lots of useful tips and threads if you are interested in those. We each seem to have our own particular methods of going about this low carb thing, so whatever plan you are following - way to go lady. :)

Well - interesting about all these spectacle stories. I thought opticians always got it right. lol. How naive am I?

Have great sunglasses, which are actually snow glasses, wrap around, so when driving no glare in at the sides. Sure do love em. They are large so I look a bit like a panda.

So warm yesterday - just bliss but damp. Today sunny with a little breeze to enjoy while we lunch out. Ive just done 3 days low cal, and managed to gain.... wow.... go figure. I know it will be fluid as my face is taking on that pumpkin look and so are my knees. So elegant I always think - dont you agree? lol. xx

Hi Dayle, so glad to see you joined us, welcome. We are I think a sweet fun bunch.

I have them all over the place, I also have them in sun-glass versions, in the purse, car, each room of the house brief cases, computer cases, boat and even on the side of the bath tub. I get lazy and don't wear my contacts. First time I got Rx bi - focals I stumbled when I walked had depth problems and got sick to my stomach. Never wore then after about two days of stupidity.

Have any of you ever had a negative carb count using the tracker here, having the fiber higher than the carb count? A first for me.

This is a cool team. I like to find teams that are like minded with me.
Read some of take off your glasses and see. Do it sometimes. The last glasses from optometry were unwearable. Took them back twice and was told each time to wear them and get used to them, which translates to make your eyes worse and come back next year. I did not wear them and went back to warehouse readers. DH got angry saying for the umpteenth time that I need my eyes checked. He was actually pacified when I said I can do that myself ( is this better or is this better ). We went to the dollar store and I bought 3 one dollar glasses.
Can you believe it, he felt a part of it and has shut up for two weeks! emoticon
Living here in AZ paradise, two extra rooms off the pool.
Can't remember to buy lotto tickets or check them if I do...
emoticon new and old friends.

We all can only do what we can do. There is another friend that gives me hope, she was in a similar situation and now is working on herself in a great healthy way and seeing results! I wish I could get my family members to at least try it...siblings not DD or DH, both are great!

Oh my heavens, a new month here soon enough.
I wish I could find a few more hours in my day, to get all done that I want to get done.

I'm with you Erin - what other people do or do not eat is a topic that I leave well alone.
My friends know how I eat - but I don't know one that is really interested and they continue
to bemoan what they are doing does not work and that they are following some plan or other
that someone, (often those who one would imagine might know what they are talking about) has told them to use. I now just listen - it is their story and their journey - not mine. I know how I used to feel about unasked for and therefore unwanted advice. It's like some smokers who have given up and become changed people - in the way that they immediately start preaching. Guess it's part of all the things we do - when we find something that works for us, as human beings we want to convert everyone else to our own way of thinking :)

I wonder if your friend is old enough to remember the "Diet Plate" that used to be on menus of small diner/restaurants. As I recall, it was a broiled piece of chicken, a half of a canned peach (maybe), a side of salad, and a pile of cottage cheese. At least in my hometown. It was your basic LOW CARB DIET! If your friend remembers this, she MIGHT be influenced! Also, ask her to look at the plates of the skinny "ladies who lunch". Typically, it is ALSO low carb -- a salad and a bit of protein!

Lovely visual story Koshie, mine was a tree house and I would pull the ladder up behind me.

I am frustrated today. Why would a doctor and nutritionist tell a morbidly obese person over 300 pounds to eat mostly complex carbs? This is the second time in a few days that I have heard this. My heart sunk when a friend of mine told me this. I tried so hard to tell my friend about a low carb solution and offered to help. But who am I. It saddens me to see her health so bad and her pain so apparent. I have suggested different sites, opinions, studies, videos, books and giving her links to studies. It makes me sad, but what to do...you can only do what you can do. Smart person? As the words were said; I think they need a team here that is for us people that just don't care any more calling it, "Oh Screw It". They have been given direction and instruction from professionals that probable could kill her. I let it go. You can lead a horse to water....

But I am also happy that I know how wonderful I feel and that I have found health. I am learning boundaries yes even with friends. The list use to be short on topics one shouldn't speak about; religion, politics and now diet choices too. LOL

Walk through your journey with a loving open heart and as well mind. Treat others as you would like to be treated.

Hi everyone.

Koshie that sounds perfect. What a wonderful hideaway. Yes it sure is a vine over here - its quite a wonder really. This particular one just did not want to get started - many years ago now and I was on the point of digging it out. I guess it must have known cos that year it took off and has never looked back. I have since buried my kitty under it when she passed away and I like to think of her in all the blossoms every year.

You sure do look slim and young in that photo Erin, loving it. :o)

Hi Sharon. xx

I grew up in Brownsville Texas -- which has a semi-arid, sub-tropical climate. Bougainvillea is typically thought of as a vine, but I can't help thinking of it as a bush. When I was little my parents had a very, VERY large one growing in the middle of the side yard. Its long runners reached up to the sky then arched over to the ground, forming a leafy, flowery circular tunnel. It was my secret bower (literally!). The thorns I could not break off I covered with feathers. I'd drag in a towel (Mom was not happy!) and a book and a Mexican ice-cold Coke (we were allowed one a day) and there I'd lay on the towel and read and day-dream. This was MY space and I did not tell my siblings -- I shared it only with the birds. Summers were wonderful!

Real Life on a visit, heck yes we could get along. Some might even opted to stay for an extended visit LOL

Thank you Koshie! That took work to say that without adding some type of logical comment from what I see.....

Will be gone I hope all day, walking, enjoying and living life to it's fullest!

Have a wonderful week end!

Oh ladies, how wonderful it would be if we could all visit. I wonder if we would get on as well in RL as we do on here.

We could sit out on the back porch surrounded by plants and perfume from the vines. There is an enormous deep pink bougainvillea right over the roof and walls at the back of the cottage. It is just coming into its own again. It actually grows under and over the porch roof. I have soft white cane furniture out there with pale blue and pink flower covered cushions. It is a delight to spend time out there. I can just see us all. Iced tea is sure on th go as well as the hot sort. Coffee not so much for me, but happy to provide for visitors.

Well all I can say is Erin keep on trying. I dont play actually, never kind of got into it. I keep politics as far away from my life as possible, along with all the dreadful things we are bombarded with on a daily basis from all the news channels. I enjoy being part of this centurey with all the wonderful advancements in technology, but I prefer to keep my pace of life as it was in the fifties. :)

Erin, you LOOK like a Skinny MInnie in your Photo!
Wispy, open up a B&B and I'LL come visit you! It sounds Divine!
LovingMyScale, you are SO right! You ARE doing something right if you are not gaining! I tell myself when I hit a plateau that my body is learning HOW to live at a lower weight and that it is learning that it is perfectly OKAY to be at a lower weight. I sorta pretend thatmy body and brain have two separate learning methods -- the conscious, "knowing" , reasoning brain, and the unconscious body that simply has to live through and experience events in order to be informed. Once my body is convinced it is fine at a lower weight and has learned that the behaviors that keep it at the lower weight are perfectly acceptable, then I discover that my body "relaxes" and is will let go of 10 more pounds. (then it has to be convinced all over again!)

Well Sandy the storm is on the move north, she was a bit rough but heck we made it through OK. I hope everyone else fairs as well.

The weather here is suppose to get beautiful out with cooler temps in the high 70's low 80's and no humidity....I can't wait! I will be outside all day long! I am a bit stir crazy already being indoors for two days straight.

Have a great week end!

Today was a gorgeous day here - sunshine, blue sky and chilly this morning. When I went out to walk it was 39 when I came back home about an hour later, it was about 47 and eventually got up to about 57 mid afternoon. Then this evening, the clouds started coming in and we may have rain in the morning, but more apt to be in the afternoon, so hopefully I can get my walk before it starts.

Wispy, Your descritpion of your house is kind of like the picture I had in my imagination - it sounds wonderful and I'd come have a cup of tea with you if I were a few (quite a few) thousand miles closer - it sounds like a delightful place!

I too will be glad when this election is over! I already mailed my ballot in, so when the politicians call, I just tell them "I've already voted thank you" and hang up. I'll bet the people running will be glad when it's over too, especially those close votes..

I hope everyone's had a great day today.... G'night.

Betty

Erin - re: politics -- a lot of people don't realize that if you live in one of the swing states you get bombarded for political advertising day in day out. It drives me nuts! Sometimes I have to change the channel to something really stupid just to calm down from all the lies and name calling.
My husband and I have voted early so the ads really drive us nuts. I know it is a priviledge that we all have the right to vote, but - sad to say - I will be glad when it is all over with and we can go back to complaining about the guy we did or did not vote in - ha ha
Otherwise - I am doing fine - just staying quiet and trying to getting my head back on.
I have not lost nor gained any weight so I must be doing something right.
Going back to WVA this weekend with the family to place my Mother's stone on her grave.
Sad part is that this will mean that our older family is gone now except for me and my cousins - the next generation. Hard to think that we are all now the older ones in the family.
Of course we try to keep up the humor of it by reminding the eldest that he is the head of us now and then burst out laughing about it.
Oh well I need to go finish folding clothes.
Later

Koshie, that is sad to hear about your vision. I am so pleased for you that things did improve.
Mine isnt bad presumably. He said something about the part that should be round in my case is oval. Im thinking like a kitty? Not sure if it was the iris though. Guess I hardly ever listen at docs, dentists or opticians. As long as they fix what is wrong I dont really care what its called. And at the doc's I have so much stuff that there is no cure for I no longer even bother with that, used to drive me insane. These days I seem to have at least dealt with the symptoms to a large extent with the way I now eat and best of all Quantum Healing which actually does seem to have changed my thought patterns and thus my bodily functioning. Amazing - but as it is all good I am not complaining.

I havent driven for several years now - but have to say am loving public transport. Never thought the day would come when I would say that. But I can now just sit back and enjoy everything and chat to people I meet.

Betty actually yes, I think of it as being like a fairy tale garden. My grand daughters so loved it when they were small - well actually my youngest who is now 15 loves my home and every time she comes still ohhs and ahhs. I have all this olde worlde stuff and the kitchen is shaped like the bow of a boat. Thought it would be romantic when I had it put in, and I have never tired of it. The oven is set in the v part with windows on both sides and there is old china everywhere on the shelves. Lots of pot plants on the garden window. As you can see I love my home. DG wants one just like it. In fact she loves all my old lacy pillows and crocheted afghans. So last Christmas I gave her some of them. She was truly over the moon. We have always been very close. Love all the grandkids, but she spent a lot of time with me when she was growing up and we spent so much time playing games. She had her own room and we have a whole barbie and ken set up, with swimming pool, cafe, house, horses and all the people. Good golly I loved playing as much as she did. We also had the beauty parlour and one day she decided to pierce all the girls ears and guess what they wore my antique ear rings............ she was so cute finding the right implements with which to pierce their ears. lol. Girls are so much fun - they love to play and we dressed up as often as possible. She also loved all my animals and helped feed them..... well Ok so now Im off down memory lane again.

Have a good day girls.

Well.. since we are talking about glasses... I've got a pair of progressive lenses. I also bought MANY pairs of reading glasses of all different strengths at the dollar store! My vision is frequently much worse when I arise in the mornings; and it might last until 1-2 p.m. I simply am unable to find an optometrist OR opthamologist who will open for me very early in the morning, and since the effect is frequent but unreliable, AND variable, I don't find any use in going at 10:00 a.m. So in the mornings, I put on reading glasses (pair after pair until I find the "right" one for the day) for "full-time use" until the effect goes away. Then I put on my prescription glasses. This has made life much better for me -- and I feel I drive much safer without having my head craned back as far as I can....

I also have astigmatism. I had radial keratotomy performed 30 years ago, I was legally -blind I was THAT near-sighted; and for 25 blessed years, I had wonderful, glasses- and contacts-free vision. Unfortunately, now it means that further surgery on the cornea is strongly-ill-advised, and with correction, I see somewhere in the neighborhood of 13 overlapping images due to the returned astigmatism. MY doctors tell me that they simply cannot correct for that. That particular effect really only is apparent at night, with points of light. It makes taillights and headlights hard to figure out. And stars as such are a thing of the past, the image of a star is too far away, the blur of 13 super-imposed images too confusing. I see smudges of light, like in a bad painting of a night sky. On the other hand, fairy lights, street lights, are Christmas trees are enchantingly spectacular twinkles! It is a mixed bag!
And this is gonna slay you --- ever since the surgery, my DREAMS are in better focus!

GG, did your skin periodically STING when you were suffering with bursitis? How long did it last?

Sharon, my glasses are just one pair with progressive lenses - That was why I got glasses, I was going nuts hunting around for reading glasses all of the time. I don't need glasses for far vision. I had cataract surgery on both eyes last year, so all I need is reading glasses really. but sometimes it's easier to just wear glasses all of the time instead of the off and on thing. And I don't always wear them, but when I go out shopping to look at price tags, labels and the like....

Today's been a good day - weather a little strange, but not wet.. The clouds looked like tornadoes or snow storms or thunder or whatever, but nothing happened with them except the wind came up a few times.

Wispy, I sure wish you had a camera and took pictures, I have this vision of your house and your gardens and fairy lights like something out of a fairy tale - like a cottage in an enchanted forest or something. Very pleasing visions, I might add. It all sounds wonderful... like a little piece of heaven maybe? And I'm sure it is to you and that's what matters..........

Betty

Hope all is smooth sailing Erin, we've just come through a week or two of those wild storms. We even have snow down South. Up here its a wonderful day of sun and gentle breezes. So good to see.

Well ladies Ive taken to buying cheap glasses in the Warehouse (like Warlmart) for $10 a go. Have to say they work very well - in fact I was having so much trouble with the ones I was getting from the optician that I got a refund on the last pair which were just useless.

He tells me I have a stigmatism in my left eye and thats why they were not working properly...... well he may be right, but the cheap sort work just fine. :o)

Wispy, your garden and your room sound so wonderful .

Koshie, hope your arm is getting better, you may need a med. i know i did when i had bursitis

Betty, i got new ones too and had to " get used to them " one for far away and one for close up. Although i don't where the ones for far away much . I got them both for under $200 . As i always take frames ( if i need new ones ) off the $35 rack and just keep refilling the old ones each time . emoticon

Sharon that sounds like a lot to handle, but means you will see the family more Im thinking. Gotta be a good thing.

Im with you Erin - peace of mind is more important to me than anything else, in all sorts of stuff that goes on in the world these days.

I live in my own little corner of Eden. My garden is really like that - I created it from scratch. And now it is fully grown it is just about perfect - for me that is to say.

Busy busy day today. Got so much done in the house and outside. Feeling great with
everything that I have achieved. Even got the cherry blossom on the branches in my bedroom and will add the fairy lights to those tomorrow. Then that will be two 'trees' complete.

Enjoy your day ladies.

Turns out you're a bigger blood donor than you thought, huh, GG?

I spent a peaceful day too -- watering my plants and doing minor chores. Really big on my to-do list was to confirm the gifts I have bought thru the year to give to my siblings when I see them in 3 weeks. First I had to FIND the gifts! It seems I haven't found anything yet for my youngest brother. Oh, Joy! There is still some fun shopping to do!

Up way to early, DH starts early now and was up at 3:00AM, 12 hour days for him now.

I am finding my Mondays I wish I could sleep in and rest as we run so much on the week ends. What is up with this; when I can sleep in I am wide awake, when I can't sleep in I sleep so sound and hate when the alarm goes off. emoticon

DD has a sick gecko lizard and will have to find a reptile doctor to take her to today, the lizard not the daughter. LOL

emoticon wish I was emoticon
