I can get almost to the end of Couch-to-5K but as soon as I start doing the 5-minute intervals regularly, I have so much hip pain that I have to give up. I totally have the strength, stamina and lung capacity to run, but the hip pain stops me from getting very far. So odd because I've never injured my hip or had any other kind of hip pain before.
I will have to work on these muscles before I give running another go.
Granted, I don't know much about your condition, but this is something that has helped me get rid of my lateral knee pain due to a weak IT band (some runners have hip pain due to the same issue) by strengthening those outer thigh muscles. I thought that maybe it could be beneficial to your condition as well: www.youtube.com/watch?v=x82FfI6PKEQ
I could be off base here, but thought I'd at least throw it out there. Best of luck and keep on running!
So after battling deep hip joint paint for months, it finally went away. Then I started jogging again and guess what - it's back. I had noticed though, that if I walk with my foot pointed out, away, kind of duck-footed, that it feels so much better. Well I was doing some googling to see if I could find out what was going on and I came across a description of Piriformis Syndrome that literally said people will notice relief if they walk with their foot pointed out! Ah-ha - a Diagnosis!
Anyway - after some more googling, I acame across this You Tube video that gives 3 simple stretches to help loosen this muscle and after doing it just a few times I am like a new woman! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFtUgS69r Pk
Just thought I'd share if anyone else if having issues with sciatica or hip problems - this could help!
