The elevator in one building is REALLY slow, so I took the stairs to do my emergency lighting test. Total of 4 flights up one at a time, then all 4 back down at the end.

My SO has a nephew who is about 10. They were eating hot dogs and potato chips and I made a comment about how I would weigh 400 pounds if I ate like that. He wanted explanation, and I told him that I have to exercise every day and to be careful about what I eat since I am so fat.

This little boy was indignant and told me that I was not fat...at all! Funny, since this kid doesn't especially like me. I have known him since he was about 2 years old, so you would think that he might have noticed that I gained and lost almost 100 pounds in that time...apparently not. :)

Later I wondered if he doesn't see me as fat because his own mother is fatter than I am. Hmmm.

Anyhow, it amused me at how insistent he was about me NOT being fat. I guess to the casual 10-year-old observer, I fall into the broad category of "normal."

Hey ladies...I am so happy for all of you and congrats on your weight loss. I will be there one day as I am working hard everyday to get there.

Please don't think I am trying to be a Debbie Downer, but think of it as a reality check. I have noticed a thread running throughout this discussion and it is about the sizes of clothing, and how many are fitting in to clothes sizes they never have worn or haven't worn since middle school.

The reality is this. Clothes are not the same size clothes you wore back in middle school. It is called VANITY SIZING, and stores have been changing the sizes of clothes for years to increase sales. So if you are now wearing a size 8, in reality you are wearing a size 10. That is why pre-pregnancy clothes or even old high school clothes you can't get into because they are a different size than the current standard of sizes.

Again, I am not trying to bring you down over this subject, but I am trying to educate you and inform you so you will not be deceived. Don't fall into that trap.

If you believe you look good, and you feel good, that is reality, not the size of clothes you wear!

Oh, another one that I forgot...a couple of weeks ago I was sitting in the hot tub after swimming my mile and a lady asked me if I was on the swim team.

The high school swim team.

Everyone wanted to eat out at lunch today.. Normally I'm right there , thinking in my mind well they get to why not me. But today I took my husband and his co workers their Jack in box.. took my daughter thru chicken Express and planed on stopping at Subway. Now you think nice choice... But I drove home and had the lunch I had planed a turkey / hummus wrap with veggies and water..

I'm Done thinking that I have to eat out because they do like I am missing something.. IT is just food nothing special.... okay if the go to H3 without we might have to fight.. but drive thru all you want.

This is somewhat scale related, but it feels more significant. According to BMI tables (the ones that don't figure in large frame size) I am no longer obese. My BMI is now 29. I started at 43.

Update: I thought that the slightly-too-large jeans that I just bought were 14s...looked at the tag today and it turns out they are actually 12s...skinny cut!

This just totally blows my mind. It means that I really should be wearing a size 10. I can't remember EVER wearing a size 10. I was talking to my mother, and she thinks I was probably in middle school the last time I wore a size 10.

I have lost all of the weight that I gained after my brain aneurysm (8 years ago) and subsequent pituitary failure. I'm now back to my (slightly fat) normal weight, health issues aside. I was a size 24 at my highest weight.

Raptor, puppy chow is chocolate & peanut butter smooshed into chex cereal coated in powdered sugar. Locally it is a picnic and grad party dish. Although I bought a couple "beef stew" type dog dinner's as a treat for my boxer and one of them looked better than the last can of beef stew I bought myself to eat. Probably had more natural ingredients in it too considering the brand.

Puppy chow is a nasty, chocolaty-carby homemade snack mix.

I have a couple of recent NSVs:

--Saw my new sleep doctor on Thursday. He was looking at my weight-loss history. Apparently I am a "rock star" and my weight loss has a scalloped pattern.

--Went into an Ann Taylor store to shop. I have always thought that their clothes were beautiful but cut small and too tailored for my body. Turns out their clothes fit me great now--I walked out with a huge pile of new things!

--Bought new jeans while I was in the city. Walked into the regular section, guessed at my size and what would fit/look good and EVERYTHING I tried on fit! After wearing around one of the new pairs of jeans that I bought, I am realizing that I probably should have bought an even smaller size--I can pull them off without unbuttoning or unzipping.

Im so glad to see this thread going again!!!---It helps motivate us all I am sure---especially when the darn scale wants to stick or slide back for a while!!!...My NSV....keep hearing comment after comment from different people at work --it is really starting to show!! 42 pounds down so more than a third to my goal in just 3 months....I might just be able to hit 50 by 1/1/13...hugs everyone!! thanks for sharing and inspiring us to emoticon

I can jump! I've been noticing that I get some major air when I do Zumba. I really get off the ground when I am shooting hoops too. One of my Zumba instructors just brought back an old routine that involves TONS of jumping. I couldn't keep up with him at all when he was doing this routine a year ago...now he and I are the only ones in class who can really do it.

I don't think that I could jump this high when I was a teenager and playing varsity basketball. I have no ACL on one side (tore it completely in a dancing accident years ago) but it doesn't seem to be slowing me down these days.

I had two today. One I wrote about in my blog... I finally went to the eye doctor. Silly, but it's still a NSV for me.
Two, I missed lunch so I was super hungry. I stopped at BK as it is the only place near my in laws. I got a whopper jr, no mayo (saves between 50-70 calories!) and then ate only half my fries. I said, I am stopping... and I stopped! I drove home with half the fries next to me, but I still didn't eat them!

Wore a size 24 denim skirt to the holiday concert at the school where my mother teaches!
Yeah. It's huge, but this same skirt I couldn't wrench up past my upper thighs late spring/early summer.
The last time I could wear 24 denim anything was when my dad passed away last February. I'd been wearing basically yoga pants and track pants and stuff with lots of stretchy material.

It doesn't take as long for me to convince myself to exercise at least 5 days a week since I put the bike in front of the television. I usually have breakfast around 8 and then get on the bike between 10 and 11, then have a healthy snack and a 16oz cup of water. :)

1) I can wrap regular towels around my body.

2) My cholesterol is in the healthy range for the first time in my WHOLE LIFE.

3) I have injuries and arthritis in both knees, and they used to buckle and give out on me, causing me to fall. It's been at least a year since that has happened

4) I'm not (as) self-conscious about exercising in public.

5) I can shop at "regular" clothing stores, even in regular juniors sizes.

GREAT thread!

1). I tried shoes on and didn't think to get them in WIDE because my feet aren't as large anymore!

2). Crossing my legs comes so easily, I don't even think about it. Couldn't do that before.

3). When I recently sat in a theatre, I realized that I had room on BOTH sides of the seat rather than me spilling into the seats next to me and making my neighbors uncomfortable. It was a wonderful feeling.

I may be 20 pounds above my "normal" BMI, but I'm within normal range fat percentage-wise for a woman my age, and I have a waist-hip ratio that is in the healthy range as well. I'm also able to run a 10-11 minute mile on a regular basis, typically doing 6 miles per run, do regular push-ups (look Ma, no knees!), 90 second planks (and counting) and jacknifes with a balance ball.

Since I'm happy with what I look like and my clothing size (10/12), I'm just rolling with this and maintaining my food intake and exercise levels, since I seem to currently be on a plateau. If I lose weight, that's fine. If I maintain, that's cool too. I'm not going to let the scale stress me out!

I had labs taken yesterday --first since having my baby on 7/23..I just saw the results!!! Everything was completely normal!! all of them..Cholesterol 199/glucose 81..and CBCs--I cant believe it!! I had gestational diabetes, have high Blood pressure and havent had normal labs in a long time!!! I am so so happy right now!! Share your Non Scale Victories!! emoticon
