That is totally true. Not only put them on the top shelf but in a container. That way you have time to stop yourself and think.

We had a wonderful Christmas, I hope you did too!

Hope you all had a great Christmas!!!

Tip #5
Redo your kitchen cabinets

Put cookies, chips, and other snack foods on the top shelf and dried fruits, nuts, whole-grain crackers, and other healthy fare on the lowest. The reason: Research has found that foods within easy reach are the ones most likely to be eaten.

Re: Tip #1 - I used to joke that all I really needed to do was eat whatever I wanted, as long as I did it naked in front of a full-length mirror!
Maybe I wasn't so far off, huh?

Thanks for sharing the tips!

Hi, there! I love this one!

Tip #4

Take a coffee break before exercising.

"The caffeine can give you a mild boost in metabolism and help you work out for a longer period of time before fatigue sets in," says Leslie Bonci, M.P.H., R.D., director of sports nutrition at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Those two factors can lead to better weight loss, she says.

Hi, ladies. So here comes tip number 3, which is pure common sense.

TIP #3

Don't go longer than 5 hours without eating.

"Anytime you go longer than five hours between eating, you greatly increase the risk of overeating, " says Linda Spangle, R.N., a weight-loss coach in Denver, Colo., and author of 100 Days of Weight Loss: The Secret to Being Successful on ANY Diet Plan (SunQuest Media, 2006).

My guess is we already knew that. It's good to be reminded, though!

Have a fantastic day,

Gwen

I agree with number 1 completely. I think I definitely eat less, and eat better, when I eat in our dining room which has a large mirror on the wall near the table.

When I was 23 I moved into an apartment that had mirrored doors on the hall closet. This closet was right outside the kitchen so I could see myself every time I opened the refrigerator - I lost 95 lbs! I'd say it works. I gained it all back and then some after I married and moved to a bigger place :(

If I cannot love myself, how can I expect anybody else to?

I've heard of #2. I even think that some diet, maybe Richard Simmons had these little things you could spray and smell if you were craving during the day. I think Chocolate may have been one of the scents.

TIP #2
Take a whiff of a pleasant scent.

Research at The Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation found that when overweight people inhaled a blend of peppermint, banana and green apple aromas whenever they felt like eating, they lost considerable weight during six months, despite being instructed not to deviate from their usual diet and exercise habits. "It may be that aromas satisfy cravings because 90 percent of what we call taste is really smell," explains Alan R. Hirsch, M.D., director of the Chicago-based foundation.

So, what do you think girls? Have you ever tried this?

Hi, girls!
Does anyone remember this fantastic magazine called Looking Good Now? It portrayed success stories, great tips, easy exercises, etc., everything related to weight loss. Too bad it went out of print!
As I was organizing my stack of magazines I came across this great article called 101 weight loss trips and tricks. The magazine claims that all of their tips and tricks are proven to work, either through scientific research or real people.
I think most of them are common sense and we already do that. I would like to share the list with you girls hoping we can discuss them and receive mutual feedback.

Hopefully they will help newcomers too!

I will be posting them as regularly as I can.

Gwen

TIP #1
Put a mirror in the kitchen
A study at Iowa State University found that when people ate in front of a large mirror, they consumed considerably less of high-fat foods that were offered. Researchers believe that when people focus on what they're doing, which they must do when facing a mirror, they make more effort to keep their behavior in line with their goals.
