Sounds like a lovely walk. I've had several trips to Scotland, but haven't been to that area, although I've looked up the castles near there.
Eastern Time Zone
20.29 miles. I've been in radio silence for a bit, but I'm walking. About 8 miles to my first castle!
After doing some perusing, I think I'm going to follow the Castle Trail in Aberdeen (brochure here: http://www.aberdeen-grampian.com/userfiles
/file/castle-trail-2011-12.pdf.) It's over 300 miles long on the efficient route, but I'm sure that I'll be taking side trips and more scenic walks to lengthen it.
So, yesterday I landed in Dyce and began my walking journey to my first destination - Dunnottar Castle south of Stonehaven (26 miles, in the efficient car-route.) By the end of today, I will have made it to the other side of Aberdeen - I'm only walking a few miles a day so that leaves plenty of time for sightseeing in-between.
