Good for you JUSTJO66 in your progress to date. Hope this team motivates you to really step out and step up on the miles.

If you don't have a destination several of us are walking in New Mexico this month to a town called Truth and Consequences. There are several different length walks to choose from which all end in Truth or Consequences. We'd love to have you join us this month, or in December when we pick another destination.

Just wanted to pop in and introduce myself. I've just started walking with a pedometer. This sounds like a really fun site to track my miles and have fun reading about others that are doing the same. I started out Jan. 09 with 105 lbs. to lose (225 on my 5ft. frame). So, far I'm down approx. 41 lbs. Still long way to go.

If not, please check out the "Truth or Consequences" thread over in the Challenge Walks forum and join some of us who are walking around New Mexico. There are several different length walks to choose from for this month. We'll pick a different destination in December.

hi there, I've been working out at a gym for a month 2 times a week, and am stepping it up by dieting and walking out doors! I lost 40 pounds last yr around this time, and am getting back into it to lose the rest I hoped to lose last year!

SYATES1971 - Check out the Cary Sparkers. We did one meet up in May, and then slacked off, but there are a few active folks there. Maybe when the weather cools off we'll do another meet up.

How do you do this? You just get out and walk or job or do the elliptical or something. One month I counted rowing machine distance.

Of course, picking a destination is good too. Because if you don't pick one and don't know where you started from how can you measure progress?

If you don't yet have a destination in mind, take Kevin's (FINFIN2) advice and drop into the Challenge walks forum and walk some miles in Peru. In that thread next week we'll begin to discuss our destination for August and will post several different lengths to choose from. We would love to have you join us.

By the way, you could walk from Clayton to Cary. We are both in NC - you and Clayton and me in Cary. Come on over. It's about 25 miles according to google maps.

Hello and welcome from southern Illinois!

I wear a pedometer all day and total my miles for the day and "apply" the miles to a virtual trip. I use Google maps to plot my route as I go. I started my personal trip from home in southern Illinois and am virtual hiking to Key West, Florida.

You can also total miles from a treadmill or from a bike, and even convert other exercises to miles.

Hi, I'm new to this team but it sounds like fun. I read a blog about another gal who was virtually walking across the country and have wanted to do something similar since then. I think starting small would be good but long term I'd like to get across the ocean and walk England. In the mean time, I think walking to the coast from eastern WA will be a good start. :)

Welcome - we are starting from the same places: weight, location, date...
I chose to "walk" to Denver, or we could have "walked together"...but we travel the same journey none-the-less.

I've been on spark for a couple of weeks, I love it!! I'm going to pick a realtivly small goal, to walk to the canadian border, from Mpls. It seems to be a good place to start, and I crave to go there!!
