My daughter and I supported our troops in an unusual way yesterday. AV Ink, Lancaster, California was doing yellow ribbon tattoos and having a raffle, raising funds for our troops! We went in and donated our money and got our tatts! Respect and love for all the families who have anyone in the military! To all our brave men and women!! Be fabulous!!

I don't know if the initial initiative in this email is still going on, but I do know Any Soldier and Soldier's Angels are both great organizations to support troops. I'm sure there are others, those are the two that I have used.

You don't even need to send stuff - I'm on the letter writing team for Soldier's Angels, I write letters and it's fun.

There are so many soldiers overseas without family, so many single parents over there - we need to show them that we care.

I just sent a package to a platoon today through a site called Any Soldier. It's a great organization. It was simple. I just logged onto the site, looked through the posts of what the guys and gals need and hat I could afford to send, asked for the address and it was emailed to me. :) I hope they get it.

My heart goes out to the men and women and parents of children serving for their country. I do not have any family in the armed forces, but I have friends who have stood up for this country. My 15 year old daughter wants to join the Air Force when she gets old enough, I am proud of her decision, and concerned at the same time. I just want everyone to know I am so proud to call them my fellow countrymen. Parents should be so proud of your children to make such a hard decision. Thank you for protecting my family and myself. We truly owe you our freedom.

I am a single mother of a three year old and I am currently serving in the Navy. It really makes me happy to see all of the support here for our troops (I guess that includes me...ha ha). Thank you for supporting us...our job can be challenging. I see a few on here who have sons and husbands serving in Iraq. I pray for their safer return...As far as sending stuff out there, another good place to start might be the USO. They are so awesome! If you ever have a chance to volunteer at a USO, please do so! I can't tell you how wonderful it is to fly into an airport at which you have a long layover and be able to go to the USO and just chill. Some have homemade meals and big TV's, stuff to read, etc. It is great! Anyways, just wanted to share my gratitude to all for the support and the sacrifices of those on this board.

Aw, that's a great idea for all of us! Your daughter has the right idea. My neighbor's son just started his second tour in Iraq last week so I'll ask him how we can go about getting in touch with our courageous young soldiers who are defending our freedom and let you know! By the way, I saw a bumper sticker the other day that I thought was Right On! It said, if you don't stand behind our soldiers, then stand in front of them! WooHoo!! Bless our troops!!

Look at everything as though you were seeing it either for the first time or the last time. Then your time on earth will be filled with glory. Betty Smith

My daughter and I are big supporters of our troops. My daughter has been trying to write to our overseas troops for two years and she keeps hitting a brick wall. She has been to several websites and written to several, but got nothing back not even the letter she wrote.

If anyone has any ideas, or where she can start writing to some of our guys and gals that don't have anyone, it would be great.

I support all the troops! whether they are deployed or stateside, the sacrifices they make are so many and often go unnoticed. i myself am in the army national guard working full time to support my son and me. he's four and i am a single mommy who does what she does so that one day, he can have the chance to decide if he wants to follow in my footsteps or not. it's his choice! his dad is also in the army and his dad before him. his uncle was in the navy and his grandpa on my side was in the marines. so far i'm the only female but i am proud to wear the uniform and serve my country! Bless everyone else who supports the troops.

Bless your heart! My oldest son and his fiancee are probably going to be married when he comes home in August and she's worried about the bit of weight she's gained too - don't! Your lad will be so glad to see you, he really won't notice. In fact, one of the things I hear most often from returned deployed soldiers is after being surrounded by hard, fit bodies, they really love and appreciate their fluffier ladies at home - it's so feminine and comforting! So make sure you're losing weight for you and not because you think he won't be happy with you - that way he won't unintentionally sabotage you. emoticon

Hi, I joined Navyformoms.com and they have a group I just heard about today called "Mollies Adopt a Sailor". I was also active duty for 5 years with the AF. I have a son active duty Navy now for almost 6 years and out to sea now. My youngest signed up for 6 years, starting boot camp in Nov with the Navy.
I've found Menopause has caused me to gain more weight and I'm slowly losing it. I was having extreme hot flashes and even passed out once to find an ambulance ready to take me away, but I refused. I'm hoping that I now have this under control but I still can't walk outside so I walk periodically throughout the day at work or home in place or with Leslie Sansome DVD.
My baby daughter just graduated from HS and is starting College next week. My oldest son has been working for a Health Store for over 6 years. I will be blessed to still have 2 of my children still living close by.
Hopeful, Georganna

Hello all. As you can probably tell from my username, I am a Navy girl. Active duty, 3 years, and a single mom of a teenage boy to boot!

I think it's great that people support the Army and Marines that are in the field (ie Iraq, Kuwait, etc.) and I would love for people to find a way to write to Sailor's too. There are many Sailor's on board ships who don't get emails or even letters from back home. Just as some Soldiers and Marines have no family, Sailors can be lonely too.

Please keep Sailor's in mind when you are packaging a care box, or writing a letter. The MWR should be able to connect you to a single Sailor who would love letters. (male and female)

So, thanks for supporting us for all that we do. Behind the scenes much more goes on than what you may realize. We work hard 24 hours a day 7 days a week with no holidays or days off. We are the (volunteer) Armed Forces!

Hello Ladies
Been busy with new members, helping my son getting his stuff ready for his college trip next month and going back and forth to the doctor. Need to get an MRI done this week to find out why I have a black and blue eye in the mornings. Thought I better make an appear, so you all won't worry or send a search party after me.
Hope everyone has a good week and making progress too.
Always, ERNA

I'm actually on SparkPeople trying to get in shape to do better in the military. My waist measurement is to big and my run time is too slow, so I failed my pt test. Thanks for all the support. We really do love getting those boxes, even if they have silly stuff in them. It's just fun to have a box to open. It breaks up the monotony with something other than danger. Nice change of pace.

I come from a very militant family. 5 brothers who were all in the military, father who retired from it and myself having been in two branches...Air Force and Army. It's great to see all the support here - it touches my heart and I'm sure it touches everyone who is affected by having a loved one out there serving our country. God Bless you all!!! May they all come home safely!!! emoticon

It's nice to see the support. I currently have two sons serving in the USMC (one of which is deployed).

I only caution everyone to ensure for the safety of our soldiers that we all watch the amount of info given out. For example: dates, names, rank, locations.

Thank you for all of your support and god bless.

That is an awesome thing to do! Thanks so very much! My brother is in Iraq right now. He is a chaplin's assistant. We are able to talk to him through IM at times and it is such a booster each time we can do that.

He is setting up something like this as well. I am glad that others will be working on it! Thank you all so very much. It means a lot to our guys overseas.

I am all about supporting the troops. I am with Pamelalynne. My son's father was AirForce and retired about a couple of years ago in Guam, with his new wife. He promises to see his son and doesn't follow thru with it. My son is heartbroken. So the troop yes, my son's father NO! I will save the drama for another forum topic. GO TROOPS! WE LOVE YA!

My soon to be step son and his fiancé just got back from Iraq. They told me of friends they lost and friends they found. It's was hard but I'm glade they came home. My sister came to meet him and started asking all kids of things and he looked at me and said it's ok I want people to know and understand than to hate me. I just love that kid. I have a lot of friends and family in the military and I love them all.

Hey everyone! I def. Support the troops, but I do have to tell my story on here. My ex is in the army and is in afghan. (He is my son's dad)

I broke up with him in feb. 2008, and since then, he has not seen his son (he went to afghan. in june) since. He has not called his son since we broke up, nothing. He didn't even call my son to wish him a happy birthday. I just found out that he got married in june 2008. He wants nothing to do with our child at all. His family is disgusted with him too about not wanting to be a father to my son.

So I do support the military, however, I am afraid to say...I do not support 'him' in anyway.

Hello Everyone! I am definitely in favor of whatever we can do to support our troops, as I am from a strong military family. Currently, I have 2 cousins and one nephew in Iraq, and my future son-in-law is soon to be deployed as are several friends of my daughter. The most important thing I try to do is keep all of these brave young men and women in my prayers daily. It's good that we have a group here on SP who can all support eachother. emoticon

It is very nice for. I dont get to talk to my brother, he's on his third tour in Iraq, a lot when he's away. It helps not think about that.

I agree KJoiner thank you VERY much for what you do!

Lilgurl, I'm sure it does help him a lot! Not to mention, it probably is very nice for you as well! I read a post by someone on another team and a comment they made hit the nail on the head... whenever I hear from my soldier(s), it's like getting a big hug at home! :)

And KJoiner, we're so glad you found us, and we're honored to get to support you and our military.. and thank YOU for what you do! :)

I just want to say that I love this topic. I'm a soldier in the Army and I can't tell you what it means to me personally to know that there are people other than my family out there who support me and what I do. I haven't deployed....yet. My platoon (my unit only deploys one platoon at a time) deploys in October of next year. We're already starting the training. I don't know what I'm going to do for a year without my daughter, but I know I'm not the only one who has to go through that.
