There is a documentary out there called Sick Fat and Nearly Dead where two men do the 60 day reboot juice diet. They juice fresh organic fruits and veggies for 60 days plus exercise. It's pretty amazing to watch and has influenced a lot of people.

I know all this because our good friends plan to do this 60 days juice diet so I was curious and watched the movie. Both men had vasculitis urticaria which is an auto immune disease. They were on prednisone, methotrexate and plaquenil so that's probably where the "it will cure arthritis" comes from.

The juice diet has it's origins in Dr Gerson's juice diet from the 1930's. His theory was that high doses of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals etc from fresh veggies and fruits helped the body to cure itself. It would not be possible to eat enough fresh fruits and veggies to reach those high doses thus the reason for juice.

The juice diet lacks protein so that's a big concern of the medical community.

I understand my friend's desire to try the diet...she is tired of the weight and failing to lose it but I know this juice diet is not for me. Too extreme and I agree, I would go crazy.

People suggest miracle cures because they want to help but it does get tiring explaining why their ideas don't work for us. I have learned to say "I'll mention it to my doctor".

I have to send the word out to everyone, I've been taking tai chi lessons for about a year with a very supportive teacher, and it's helped me enormously. Not only with range of motion, but also the happiness that I'm doing something positive instead of just taking pills. It's also helped my mood and my outlook on life as well. Also exercising in a heated pool.

Thanks everybody! You would know that that's just what I thought too, but sometimes it's fun to see what others think and I really knew that anyone who really has RA, would think just as we're thinking just because of our past experiences! I've had alot of people tell me cherry juice too and numerous other juices and drinks. It's so true that the main thing that we can do besides medicines, is to lose weight or alot of weight and move more. Move more?! Well, in our own personal ways we can without hurting ourselves more. emoticon Oh and welsome to the team, BDIE! You'll love it here. We have fun right along with the serious stuff! emoticon

That's great, that you were able to take some off--I've really got to buckle down and get serious about it (I'm at the far end of 'overweight' by BMI standards). What name change do you mean? I've only known it as, RA. I've gotten to where I tell people there are over 100 kinds of arthritis, not just the 'old people's' (osteo, of course).

Hi--I'm a new member, and have had RA since right after my 30th birthday (now 28 years ago). I have a great rheumatologist that I've been seeing for years now, and actually asked him about these kinds of things, like an anti-inflammatory diet. He felt that there is no data suggesting that one particular food would "cure" RA, but did stress that losing extra weight, and eating healthily, benefits everyone. I definitely have some weight to lose, I'd love for that to result in less pain. Hard to stay away from chocolate, though. I'm really happy to have found this forum; living with RA can be lonely--it seems most of the public hasn't heard of it and just think you mean a 'twinge' when the weather's bad...... So--greetings, everyone!

Amazing the things people think up The only thing that will rid this horrible disease is if we can get rid of all the inflammation we have going on in our bodies from the RA then maybe we can claim to be cured and not just in some sort of remission waiting for the next flare up to happen They do mean well I have always been told to drink organic cherry juice

I'm with you. Seriously. Drinking nothing but juice for a month would probably kill me. I can't even go for several hours without eating protein. Let alone a full month! That's healthy? A cure all? Really?! Where do people come up with this stuff?!

A friend of ours told our son to tell me that with turning our fruit into juice and to get our fruit that way, and with eating only juice for a whole month, that he it would cure RA. I couldn't believe it and kind've scoffed it. My son said that this friend told him that he did just that and he got rid of his Lyme's Disease! And that it's supposed to help cure several diseases, including RA. You know, I get so sick of people suggesting all these remedy's. They mean well I know, but they have no idea of what all we've tried before we HAD to get some medical help because we were desperately in pain! I just thought I'd mention this and see if anyone else had heard that.
