There is a documentary out there called Sick Fat and Nearly Dead where two men do the 60 day reboot juice diet. They juice fresh organic fruits and veggies for 60 days plus exercise. It's pretty amazing to watch and has influenced a lot of people.
I know all this because our good friends plan to do this 60 days juice diet so I was curious and watched the movie. Both men had vasculitis urticaria which is an auto immune disease. They were on prednisone, methotrexate and plaquenil so that's probably where the "it will cure arthritis" comes from.
The juice diet has it's origins in Dr Gerson's juice diet from the 1930's. His theory was that high doses of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals etc from fresh veggies and fruits helped the body to cure itself. It would not be possible to eat enough fresh fruits and veggies to reach those high doses thus the reason for juice.
The juice diet lacks protein so that's a big concern of the medical community.
I understand my friend's desire to try the diet...she is tired of the weight and failing to lose it but I know this juice diet is not for me. Too extreme and I agree, I would go crazy.
People suggest miracle cures because they want to help but it does get tiring explaining why their ideas don't work for us. I have learned to say "I'll mention it to my doctor".
