Cynthia last April (2 months before the onset of joint pain) I had a massive outbreak of hives. I had been having hives for a year but antihistamines had controlled it. My PCP sent me to the ER for IV steroids then I went home on a tapered dose. The hives did not go away but all my back, hip and neck pain disappeared. I also commented to my doctor my legs and arms no longer felt like lead.

That's when my pain doc first started thinking inflammatory arthritis since the steroids zapped my pain. Then two months later my hands and feet fell apart. I have not been on steroids since.

In 2005 I had sudden weakness that started on a trip from Austin to Dallas. My legs buckled while shopping in a candle outlet. Later that night at a friend's birthday party, I remember holding on to the back of the chair because I could barely sit up. I struggled to walk to the car.

I was diagnosed and treated for epilepsy for two years but neurologists could not agree it was an accurate diagnosis. I've been seizure free and off medication for five years but the bouts of weakness have never gone away.

When we moved to Maryland, I saw a new neurologist but at that point was not on medication or having seizures so he felt my PCP was enough.

My pain specialist has been the doc treating my neck and back for the last two years and he feels it is muscle fatigue related to my spine issues and the RA.

My rheumy does not want me on steroids and I totally understand but except for the hives, the month after the IV steroids was amazingly pain free.

Anyway just wondering if other's had days their muscles were weak then bounced back.

Judith...have you been taking prednisone lately? or any other steroid? They cause steroid myopathy which is muscle destruction and it presents (in a mild form) exactly like you are talking about. Even the eye problem comes from that. There are also another couple of drugs which cause myopathy but I don't recall which ones they are. You should look into that possibility because if that's what it is, it can really become debilitating.
Good luck with finding a quick solution and hopefully it is one that isnt' serious.

I get the eye thing too, in evenings, but you should get that checked. It can be symptomatic of other issues. My foot is behaving today, hand better too. I do hope your sensations return quickly to normal, too. These issues used to be much more troublesome for me - some days when I was still working I could hardly pull a file drawer out. But incidents have become much more rare and transitory since improving my diet and becoming more active, with daily exercise. I hope you will find improvement thru healthy living as well. God Bless!

2005-2006 was a year of seizures first diagnosed as epilepsy but nothing ever showed up on the EEG so they weren't sure what the cause. Had numerous MRI's that year plus several imaging studies for the veins/arteries in the brain...forget what those are called. Nothing abnormal showed up. The weakness etc started that year, joint pain this past year. My eye doctor says it is just eye fatigue since i have an astigmatism where the eye gries to focus in two locations. I do see her every six months since I'm on Plaquenil. I have my visit to Hopkins rheumatology Monday and will mention both these issues again. Will get the results of their blood work up and my sleep study. I do know they are looking into other conditions beside RA.

Judith - the eyes not tracking? That's not a good thing at all. Go back to the doc immediately.

I always lose sensation in my calf and my arms/hands, but never had the eye problem. This could be neurological and a CT/MRI may need to be done. When was your last?

Helps me to know its not just me. Yes I take vitamins and added D3 since mine was low. It doesn't always correspond with getting sick just happens sometimes for no reason I can see. Have discussed it with the doctor and he thinks it is just generalized weakness. I plan to keep mentioning it to him. On days like this my eyes have difficulty tracking together. Thanks for the input.

Days with strange nerve sensations, weakness in knees &/or ankles, odd sensations in my fingers, inability to move them when and where I will, tingling like they are asleep. Got that feeling in my right hand now, left foot most of today. I haven't needed to use my cane indoors for several weeks now, but I needed it today. Weather, stress, I don't know what causes it.

Yes, but usually when a cold is coming on. I get pale, lethargic, occassional goose bumps, no energy and feel like it's doing my best just to stay alive.

Are you taking vitamins? Been near someone who has been ill? Travel sickness?

Anyone else have those days their arms and legs feel like lead? I've been strength training, doing cardio on the bike, yoga etc. but I still have these days I wake up feeling weak.

Today is one of those days. I didn't over do it yesterday. Even my facial muscles feel like they have weak tone today. My pain is not worse. Anyone have these weak days?
