Cynthia last April (2 months before the onset of joint pain) I had a massive outbreak of hives. I had been having hives for a year but antihistamines had controlled it. My PCP sent me to the ER for IV steroids then I went home on a tapered dose. The hives did not go away but all my back, hip and neck pain disappeared. I also commented to my doctor my legs and arms no longer felt like lead.
That's when my pain doc first started thinking inflammatory arthritis since the steroids zapped my pain. Then two months later my hands and feet fell apart. I have not been on steroids since.
In 2005 I had sudden weakness that started on a trip from Austin to Dallas. My legs buckled while shopping in a candle outlet. Later that night at a friend's birthday party, I remember holding on to the back of the chair because I could barely sit up. I struggled to walk to the car.
I was diagnosed and treated for epilepsy for two years but neurologists could not agree it was an accurate diagnosis. I've been seizure free and off medication for five years but the bouts of weakness have never gone away.
When we moved to Maryland, I saw a new neurologist but at that point was not on medication or having seizures so he felt my PCP was enough.
My pain specialist has been the doc treating my neck and back for the last two years and he feels it is muscle fatigue related to my spine issues and the RA.
My rheumy does not want me on steroids and I totally understand but except for the hives, the month after the IV steroids was amazingly pain free.
Anyway just wondering if other's had days their muscles were weak then bounced back.
