Ah, My favorite year…
Freshman year of college ’78-‘79. It was back in the day when Nordic Ski Jumping was still in the NCAA’s. I was at a Div-2 school and on the ski-team. I loved that sport and did very well despite my late-comer status (started in high school). The next year was a “dry year” snow-wise and the year after that the NCAA’s dropped the event. I later took up the sport for a short time in the early ‘90’s jumping at Lake Placid for recreation. It was soon thereafter RA introduced itself with a vengeance and I ceased participating at the Lake Placid Interval. Since moving to VA, I haven’t had the opportunity to do any skiing.

What has been some of your natural foods you take to counter some of your RA?
I’ve enjoyed ground cinnamon on my morning oatmeal and ground garlic on evening meals (I’ll find something to sprinkle it on). I’ve also enjoyed “Switchel” in the morning…it’s a combination of water, honey, and apple cider vinegar (mix to taste).

ah... Top ten favorite songs.
Discluding current music that I have been looking at (Japancakes) let's see if I can put together something.

I listen to a lot of oldies, to pick just a few..
I like the Doors, especially Spanish Caravan.
Mozart's requiem.
Strawberry fields forever (beetles)
Signed sealed deleviered I'm yours (Stevie wonder)
Carlos Santana Nuff said
Slow train coming (Bob Dylan and the Greatful Dead)
Mr Bo jangles sung by Sammy...
Moondance Michael Buble
one piece at a time (Johnny cash)
Miles Davis... can't pin one song on him either.

Man that was tough. but my question...
If you could live one year of your life all over again without changing a thing, what year would you choose? Why?

Mine would be a year I spent in the military, Stationed in Germany, Before I was diagnosed with RA... Had so much fun... I hurt, but didn't know why, and figured It'd go away.. (stupid me) was 215lbs and could run 2miles in 13:30 and would. Just to show you how. Festavels my friends everywhere, Playing DND every other saturday... though there was far more drinking than playing... was a blast.

Hhmmmm...not sure I can name all ten... I am a country girl, I can name parts or names (terrible with putting the two together...I will give it my best shot though).

by Trace Atkins - his new one about children growing up fast...
by Sugarland and ??? was sung on the CMA's...can't remember the song
by Dirk's Bentley....see, I told you I was terrible with this.

Okay, just consider all country songs my favorites, especially "This Kiss" by Faith Hill...I heard it the first time after I left my husband (driving home from a visit with him), after our first kiss!!! There, I remembered a name AND the song:)

I will see if someone has better luck than I and will not ask a question yet:)

To get back to the Inquiring Minds Want to Know thread, I'm going to answer CDRAKEAK's question about if insurance and income were not an issue, what would I be doing with my life right now?

I'm fortunate in that insurance and income AREN'T a problem for me AND I happen to love my job as Administrative Secretary and Training Coordinator for Water Distribution & Wastewater Collection (the guys that fix watermains and sewers)! But, if I couldn't do that anymore, I'd love to own a small bookstore and everyone knows that there's no money in that anymore if there ever was...

My question is, what are your 10 current favourite songs? Mine are:

- Sweet Child 'O Mine by Guns 'N Roses
- Paradise City by Guns 'N Roses
- Black by Pearl Jam
- Silver by Moist
- Kryptonite by Three Doors Down
- What It's Like by Everlast
- Losing My Religion by R.E.M.
- Creep by Radiohead
- Low by Cracker
- Rock and Roll High School by The Ramones

hello,
i went to see my doctor after i got all the advice from you guys. i was diagnosed and told that my condition is actually worse than it would normally be because i had malaria twice a few years back and the second time the drugs didn t work so i was put on something that in the end saved my life but left damage on my joints.
i drastically reduced the intake of red meat, started taking fish oil capsules and drinking 2 cups of green tea per day.it s to early to say if it all works, but i m being very optimistic and have decided that i m not going to let this thing rule my life. i ve also been doing a lot of sauna lately (it s winter time here) and it does wonders for me-for weigth loss and for the arthritis.
anyway, i just wanted to say that i really enjoy chatting to all of you, feels like i made so many new friends and if i have a problem you would be the people i turn to for help.

thank you and have a very good day!

I am going natural as well. I will take Prednisone for a few days if I'm having a flare up where the pain is too intense to manage, but otherwise, I am using diet and suppliments. I take fish oils (3000-4000 mg a day) and I'm also taking Turmeric. I am 100% gluten free, and that, by itself, makes a big difference. I've only started having symptoms since December so it's too early to tell yet, but my biggest flares have always occurred a day or two after eating gluten. Aside from the big flares, the pain is manageable so I'm reluctant yet to take any meds. However, the fatigue and brain fog are most troublesome. My Rheumatologist has said that meds would help with those symptoms as well...but they frighten me and I figure that if I can manage without, I'd like to try other alternatives. If it came down to constant, serious pain though, it would be a quality of life issue and I'd likely go for the meds.

I'm curious, being only newly diagnosed, how has having RA impacted your self concept? (either negative, positive or both)

I am seeing a naturopathic doctor. She has me on EPA/DHA (two at breakfast two at dinner), Boswellin 2-4 at each meal, probiotics, and basic detox nutrients. When i removed milk from my diet my RA improved drasticly. If I eat any thing with preservitives i pay the next day. Even before I had RA, which has been less then a year. I would get nasty headaches from preservitives. Is anyone else going natural and is it working for them? I still have some trouble but am doing a whole lot better.

My favorite flower is the carnation. I don't know why, I just love them!

Gail, I'm already in Alaska. Been here since 1985. It's a beautiful place, but pretty difficult to get out since you have to have a passport to drive out through Canada now (and at least a week of driving time) or enough money to hop on a plane whenever you want! The highest gas price in the United States is NOT in California, by the way. There are places where gas is over $5 a gallon in Alaska! Interior Alaska can easily get to 90-100+ degrees in summer and well below zero in winter. Do you want temperate or extreme temps? Do you want dry or wet? Alaska has it all - but you have to know where you want to go to get it! We even have a rain forest.

My question is insurance and income were not an issue, what would you be doing with your life right now?

I've been thinking that it would be fun to become a personal trainer (and get all that training myself) for half the day and spend the other half being a housewife. I actually enjoyed staying home and taking care of the house over spring break. Never thought I'd ever say that!

If I had an unlimited supply of money and time??? Wow, hadn't thought of that before...The first place I would go would be Alaska. I have always wanted to go there and am not real fond of the heat. I love to travel and wish I had more time and money now to do that.

My question deals with the spring time. What is your favorite flower?

Mine is the purple Iris. We always had a bunch of them at the house when I was growing up, I remember taking them to school to give to the teachers when I was in elementary school. Last year, my mother brought me some of the plants so I could have them in my yard. Hoping they bloom beautifully this year.

my question is:
if you had a lot of money and all the time in the world, where would you go first?
i would go to nepal, and enoy the trekking in the himalayas, go for white water rafting and probably climb every hill and visit all the budhist and hindu temples.

I would choose pizza. Can't break it down to which company, because I like too many of them.

What's your favorite spark "feature" that we have available to us on the website. The one that you couldn't live without. HMMmmmm. Now I have to answer, Oh no !!!!! ok, I would have to say the team aspect of the message boards. I can find other ways to count my calories, tally calories burned and research information. But, there is nothing like making friends that have something in common.

Hi everyone,
I think my favorite colors to wear would be black pants (black does wonders for your figure, you know!)and a turquoise or red top. I also like to wear red, white and blue together. My hair is dark brown (when it's colored)or gray when it needs colored! My eyes are also brown.

My question is:

If you were stranded on a desert island and you only had one food that you had to eat every day to survive(morning, noon and night - hot or cold), what would it be? You couldn't get tired of it, because that's all you have to eat!

My answer would be french fries! But they would have to be like McDonald's or Wendy's, not Ore-Ida for the oven. I love fast food french fries! I never get tired of them! Could eat them every day!

Petra - glad you've got some good plans in place for relieving your pain.

This thread is just a fun little game we play to learn more about each other.

Someone asks a question, and answers it themselves.

Then the next person will answer the previous question, and ask a new question ( while answering it also)

So, when you post you're answering another person's question and your own new question.. That way, we learn 2 things about you in one post.

Don't forget to post your new question to the next poster has something to answer.

LOL... my DH's favorite number is 13 because he was born on a 13th as well! Mine is 8 or 68 (birthyr).

I look best in turquoise, fuschia and red. Brown hair (with red highlights) and olive complexion- need the bright colors near my face.

Favorite comfort food- choc. chip cookie (dough?) emoticon

Hmmm...I'll answer both previuos questions:

The color(s) that look the best on me are autumn colors - greens, browns, dark purples. My hair is strawberry blonde (darker red in winter) and my eyes are hazel.

My favorite number is also 13. My son was born on a Friday the 13th, and the only time I ever won anything in my life, was betting on the number 13.

My question: What is your favorite comfort food? Not for the whole family - just for yourself?

I prefer jade, blues, and light pinks. My eyes are also blue and my hair is auburn, so the colors work well with my eye and haircolor as well.

My question is: What is your favorite number?

My favorite number is 2, probably because it's my birthdate. But my family's lucky number is 13. We have a 13 in our house number and both my husband and daughter were born on Friday the 13ths. I just had a great nephew born on a Friday the 13th, which was his grandmother's high school graduation date as well.

To help the RA pain, other than drugs...Vitamin E, hot batsh, moist heat pads at the sore joints, and I have heard some people hae had relief with a glueten free diet - not sure on that.

My question for all of you is...What color looks the best on you - does this match your eyes or hair color?

I prefer blues and think they look the best - my eyes are blue andthey seem to be set off nicely if I have blue on, I have highlights in my hair that are a very light brown with dark brown hair. They seem to complement eachother nicely when I wear blue.

I have burning in my palms and wrists- which is what brought me to the doctor. You should definitely visit a doctor and/or rheumatologist if possible to get medical care if the pain persists.
For temporary relief of some of the pain, I use ibuprofen and enteric-coated aspirin. This helps a little but my hands got swollen where I couldn't write or hold a glass either. Sometimes I just hold an ice pack between my palms. Also, if you can get a splint for your wrists/hands that helps prevent overuse of hand joints (and for sleeping too).
Good luck- there are some herbal supplements which I think are anti-inflammatory but I am not sure if any are particularly effective.
I take flax seed oil (for omega-3s), vit D. supplement, multi-vitamin with calcium.

Good morning.
Right now, I'm exercising at least 4 times a week, doing water aerobics. almost no stress on the joints, and the warm water feels soooo good.

What motivates me? Two pics of me on my refrigerator door that were taken at my heaviest weight (not a pretty sight, lol).

My question (sorry I forgot to put a question last time):
What seems to help the pain of your RA besides the RA drugs? (if anything)

Have a wonderful day!

I also love the FALL and hiking outdoors. My question is 'How often do you exercise with RA?'
I used to run/walk or do elliptical at the gym 2-3 times/week for 40 minutes or more. After my new dx I have been struggling to go for a little walk. Another question- what motivates you to exercise?

(guess I am bit eager here...)

My favourite season has got to be spring. It starts getting warmer after the long, cold winter and all the flowers and trees start blooming again and the little chipmunks and birds start taking over our yard again and everything feels so alive and fresh and great!

My question is do you have any siblings and if so, tell us a little about them?

I have 4 sisters all younger than me. Monika is 2 years younger than me and lives about 1½ hours away in London, Ontario. She's married with 2 daughters and she teaches at Brescia College.

Fiona is 3 years younger than me and lives in Montréal, Québec. She's married and has 3 boys and she teaches at St. Jean Abbott, a CEGEP (a school between high school and college).

Alison is 8 years younger than me and lives about half an hour away. She's married with 2 boys and she owns a private school for Grades JK to 8.

Margaret is also 8 years younger than me (she and Alison are twins) and lives 3 doors down from me. She's married with 1 boy and 1 girl and she teaches JK at Alison's school.

I love hiking, but especially toward a waterfall. I love to look at them, and I love the way you can hear it from way down the trail, and it gets louder as you get closer. Sometimes it also means that you're walking near a stream. Guess I just like the sound of water.

My question is, what's your favorite season?

I like the "change" of season whenever it occurs. I like 2 months of a season, then I'm ready to move on. If I had to choose, it would be fall. The crispness in the air, trees changing color, and I love football.

I really enjoy being able to get out to the mountains near our home and explore. I like hiking with my husband and daughter and a picnic lunch, especially on sunny, gorgeous days.

My question is: What is your favorite type of outdoor activity?

I enjoy hiking (obviously) and biking. We were lucky enough to be showered with snow yesterday and today and I'm really ready for the sunshine & warmth!

My husband is kind of furry. Does he count? LOL We also have a cat, who I would definitely miss if he wasn't around but I don't know that I love him. There's a funny story about our cat. I'm allergic to cats and dogs and so we didn't have pets but I told my husband that if he died, I'd probably get a cat for company because they're quiet and easy to take care. And, he said, why do I have to die for us to get a cat so we got a cat. LOL If anyone loves the cat in this house, it would have to be him. He loves animals.

My question is, what is the one thing that you look most forward to when it starts getting warmer out (and not the getting warmer part)?

For me, it's seeing all the flowers growing and trying to remember what will be coming up where. I also enjoy just sitting outside with my book and enjoying the sun.

I've got a glider at home. I also have resistance bands, balls and weights.

I can certainly relate to not being able to lift your arms. My right shoulder is permanently dislocated, and I have absolutely NO active range of motion in it. I will never get any range of motion in it. I've had 2 replacements and a 'release' done on it. It's just forever messed up. But I won't cry over what I can't have. At least it works from the elbow down.

My question is: Do you have a furbaby that you love? I have a 17 yr old shih tzu named Levi, and a 2 yr old chihuahua/shih tzu mix named Jackson.

She woke up one morning and threw away all her excuses...

Leslie, I can related to the "not being able to lift your arms" to do your own hair. How painful that can be...spent months lying on the couch until my diagnosis. Enbrel has been a miracle for me as well. Most of the other meds have been stopped due to the results of my liver tests...not doing great there. I am only on Prednisone and Enbrel now, along with Calcium +Vitamin D, and Vitamin E. Seem to be maintaining pretty well - unless I overdo...

My question - do you have your own exercise equipment at home? I purchased an elliptical in September and I LOVE IT!!! One of the best things I have ever done for myself. It has many built in programs, can be adjusted to meet your desires with the touch of a button, and my son loves the part where he can hook up his MP3 and listen to his music through the speakers.

Well, my story/diagnosis was pretty long and drawn out. I was about 5 months pregnant (28 yrs old)had been having pains in my wrists. I thought it was because I had hurt them when I was younger because they always hurt after that. On Easter weekend I woke up and could not move my left shoulder at all. It hurt terribly. I though I had a pinched nerve or something. It got worse throughout the weekend and into my other shoulder. I went to the doctor and they thought is was bursitis-sp. The doctor gave me a cortisone shot in my shoulder and sent me on my way. He said if it continued we may want to do something later after I had the baby. Well, I continued to have flare ups the rest of my pregnancy. Very painful and very limited on meds that I could even take it was rough to say the least. I flared up again so bad that I went back to the doctor and begged for a cortisone shot in both shoulders. He told me he had never had a patient do that. He gave me the shots and said that he couldn't give me another on for several months. I delivered my son and continued with having flare ups. It got so bad that I had to have my mom wash my hair for me because I couldn't lift my arms at all. It took months to get an appt. with a rhumatologist. Once I got in they did their tons of test and RA it was. We tried methotrexate, prednisone, Vioxx first. It wasn't long before my doctor put me on Enbrel with everything else and I finally had some true relief.

My husband calls me Sunshine

Every day I take a multi-vitamin, 2 calcium tablets, prescription folic acid ( as rescue for the methotrexate) vitamin C, Fish oil and zyrtec along with a steroidal nose spray for the possible allergies. They're not sure if it's allergies or not, but that's how they're treating it.

My question is, how were you diagnosed with RA?

I began having pain in my feet, which was diagnosed as neuromas ( abnormal nerve growth in ball of your foot). The doctor put me in orthotics. It took twice as long to get them due to lab errors, etc. So when I got them a month and a half later, me knees hurt. I wore them for a month, then checked back in with the podiatrist. She said the knee pain was not from the orthotics, and I should check with my reg. dr. She checked me out, said osteoarthritis, but "if it moved to any other joints, we'd have to check for RA". Within a month, my hands, wrists, knees, and ankles hurt..then I woke up one day with no mobility in my right shoulder. NONE. That's what started the blood work and lead to the diagnosis of RA. WHEW...these stories can get long.

No, I have never canned my own food and I'm pretty sure I never will. It's too time consuming, niddly-piddly.

My question is do you take supplements and/or non-RA meds and if yes, what are they and why do you take them?

I take potassium pills to prevent leg and feet cramps.

I take a low-dose Aspirin every day for my heart health.

I take Garlic capsules twice a day for hearth health and because it's good for you and eating garlic isn't healthy for people around me (lol).

I take Omega-3 capsules 3 times a day because I don't like fish and Omega-3 is supposed to be anti-inflammatory.

I take 2 Vitamin C pills a day because it prevents infections (something I'm supposed to avoid).

I take a Vitamin D pill every non-sunny day.

I take a Calcium chewable once a day to ensure my bones are strong.

I take a multi-vitamin to make sure I get any nutrients that I've missed above and that I'm not getting in my diet.

And, lately, I've been drinking 2 cups of green tea a day because it's supposed to be anti-inflammatory.

The last play (production) I saw was last May when I went to see Mama Mia with my daughter in Cincinnati. The last sporting event I attended was my granddaughters' t-ball game -- much more exciting than pro sports.

Have you ever canned your own food?
We used to grow a massive garden, and every year I would can about 400 quarts of pickles, 200-400 quarts of green beans, 400 quarts of tomatoes in one form or another, and I can't remember what else. I haven't canned since I had my shoulder replacement in August 2000. I miss it.

My favorite way to spend a sunday afternnon would be to be in the yard, gardening with my son. The weather isn't quite condusive to that right now, but hopefully soon!

Have you attended a play, musical, concert, sports game??? If so, what was the most recent?

I recently went to see BB King at the Fox Theatre in Detroit, in February...Almost forgot, my son had a band concert the beginning of this month too!

My favorite subject would be a tie between US History and Psychology. I loved them both it was probably the teacher I had the same for both subjects and he was really awesome!

What is your favorite way to spend a Sunday afternoon?
Mine is golfing with my family. It was always something I did with my family growing up and now I am starting with my husband and son.

I agree with you that SparkPoints were a good motivator to get me investigating the site, but find that the interaction with other people is more important for me. I like being able to ask questions to people who have the same types of issues as me. I also really like the access to the recipes.

My question: What is the most important reason for you to join SparkPeople?

I'd have to say mine is that I have numerous health issues and really want to get healthy. The calorie counter, recipes, fitness tracker, and team challenges keep me motivated.

Mine is shrimp. When I was growing up, my dad always made weird dishes like macaroni salad with fish eggs in it so I always stayed away from trying things because I never knew what weird things would be in them and I stayed away from shrimp because it looked weird and was pink. Little did I know that shrimp is actually really yummy. I tried shrimp for the first time when I was almost 40 and really liked it and now, it's the only seafood that I usually eat but I still prefer it mostly plain. I've never had it in soup or a casserole or stuff like that.

My question is, how do you feel about SparkPoints?

I liked them a lot when I first joined SparkPeople because they were a good motivator for me but the longer I'm here, the less important they seem but I still like them because I want to see what the next trophy looks like.

Not officially irish here....maybe like 1/16 irish. But I don't claim it except when the kids have to know a background for a school project. lol.

What food, that you thought you would never eat, are you now eating on a regular basis?

Mine is yogurt. It took me 30 years to like the texture..and I really only enjoy strawberry.

I met my husband at an Pub on St. Patty's day. We had mutual friends and hit it off. Now I have a ring of shamrocks tattood around my ankle just for him.

My question is do you still keep in contact with your best friend from childhood?
I still do, not as much as I would like but we have kids the same age and it's fun to compare what they are doing.

Ok, have to reply to the ironing saga...I do not like to iron. In my house - my hubby does the laundry and irons's the clothes!! He loves it! I think it is his hobby. People thought I was nuts one year when I bought him an ironing board for Christmas, and the next year I bought him an iron!!! Both were top of the line, heavy duty models and he loves them!!! Cannot find an ironing board that size any more.

Ok, the best thing about SP...there is so much...The way so many people can connect - due to the virtual world, and your not tied to a time. Everyone is in a separate time zone and does not always have a set time to sit at the computer. Works for me:)

For those that are married/committed to another...how did you meet?

I met my husband at a friends wedding. He is from PA, his friend (from PA) married someone from Michigan. Hubby was the best man at their wedding at the church we attend.

People are so different. I actually hate ironing and never iron anything. If it needs to be ironed, I take it to the dry cleaners. Money well spent, in my opinion.

My favourite fruit would have to be raspberries with strawberries a close second. I also love nectarines and watermelon.

What's your favourite thing about SparkPeople?

Mine is having a face put to the name. I feel like I really know someone when I know what they look like.

Don't laugh, but my favorite chore is to iron my husband's clothes. I don't have to do it often, but I love that I can see my progress and then no one messes it up immediately ( like they do the clean kitchen). I think that's why I like it...because it's all mine and it will stay nice for a few days.

What is your favorite fruit? Mine is watermelon. I love any fruit that is "juicy" but that is my absolute favorite.

Well, I have had alot of pets growing up, and my boys have as well. The strangest I had as a kid was a duck...may not seem strange, but we lived in the suburbs and ducks were not a common sight!! When he got too big, we took him to my aunt's farm. His name was Beep Beep. Strange how I can remember that as it was just a couple (LOL) years ago!

What is your favorite chore to do around the house, indoor or outdoor?

I would say mine is weeding and raking leaves. I would say planting flowers but that isn't a chore, that is pleasure. I love to be outside in the spring, fall, and winter so I don't mind the work - gives me a reason to go out!!!

What unusual pets have you had? I have a litter-trained house bunny named Cinabun, and before him we had another named Angel. I also babysat DD's class gecko one summer.

I guess I used my favorite names with my kids. Sarah and Michael...in the middle I needed an additional one, so I picked Laura (if I leave her out of this post it will contribute to the "middle child syndrome") lol.

What hobbies do you spend time doing now? - You can list up to three. Mine would be scrapbooking and reading.

I have a Bassett hound that will be 14 on the 4th of July. What is your favorite outdoor activity?

My favorite season is Fall. I love the cooler weather, the colors of trees and football.

Do you have any pets?

I have a 2 year old shih-poo that weighs 8 pounds. That's a cross between a shih-tzu (sp?) and a poodle. Plus two of the kids have beta fish.

The vacations I take travelling are almost always with my "family". I just returned from the Dominican Republic with my mother-in-law. Although, it's usually my dad that I travel with in February. I go somewhere warm every February and he likes warm, too so we usually travel together. This year he didn't because he's leaving for Italy tomorrow with another daughter (my sister) and her family.

In May, I'm going to Montréal to visit my sister and her family.

In August, I'm going to a cottage in the Ottawa Valley with 2 more sisters, their families and my dad.

I used to travel with my husband to Chicago every summer to see the Cubs because they're his favourite team but we haven't been since we bought our first house in 1997. He prefers to spend money on the house rather than travel.

I also used to do some travelling with my mum. We've been to spas, theatre, Barbados, Cuba, Britain and France together. But, she's been dead for almost 10 years now so we haven't done any travelling together lately.

My question is how did you choose your user name on Spark People? Mine (BKWERM) is my licence plate.

If I could change one thing about my life...tough question. I have no regrets of the way things have gone, although not always what I would have chosen. I would have more children...I have 2 boys, the oldest will be 21 next Friday, youngest is 14. I would like to have had more. Guess it wasn't His plan!

Next question....do you take "Family" vacations?

We do, the best ones are camping. We have a pop-up and last year we purchased a travel trailer - I Love It!!! WE were able to camp for about 3 weeks last year, hopign to go even more this year. Also heading to PA for abou 10 days to visit DH's family.

The first person I loved that died was my mother. I was 7, but my baby sister was 11 months.

If you could change one thing about your life, what would it be?

I've thought about that question a lot and realized that if I changed anything major, I wouldn't be the person I am today. So, I think it would be my metabolism - I'd love to have my husband's metabolism. He can eat a dozen donuts a day and not gain a pound!

I was 44. I'm almost 48 now.

Who was the first person you loved who died?

Mine was my grandma (my mum's mum). I loved her because she spoiled me rotten and she was alive until I was 15 so I felt like I really knew her. I still miss her.

My first paying job was working for Paul Revere's Pizza. I got fired after 4 months and I'm still not sure why?! Oh well.

How old were you when you were diagnosed with RA?

I was 26, I'm 29 now.

I always wanted to be a nurse and "work with babies" I did that by a total of 14 years (first full time, then part time) of working in labor and delivery and intensive care nursery. For the last 6 years I've been
a SAHM without working at all. It has it's good days and bad days. But, I can say that I've done what I always wanted to.

Keeping along the same lines, what was the first "paying" job you had besides the occasional babysitting job. Mine was working in the ice cream parlor of Silver Dollar City in Pigeon Forge, TN. That was an amusement park that you might have heard of, it's now called Dollywood and is owned by Dolly Parton.

I was born in San Diego, now I reside in Battle Creek, Michigan...don't know the mileage off hand, but it is quite a ways!

My question is...are you doing what you wanted to do "when you grow up"?

I wanted to be a sign langague interpreter, know basic ASL, but am not an interpreter. My dream is to be a teacher - working towards that now.

My 3 wishes would be:
#1: For my kids to grow up into responsible & loving adults.
#2: I agree with you, a CURE, not just treatment for all chronic diseases!
#3: Finally, a little selfish here... enough money in the bank so my dh could retire, and we'd have enough money to live on & send all 5 of my kids to college.

My question: How far do you live now from where you were born?
My answer: I was born in Upstate NY, and now live on the west coast of FL, near Tampa.

PS: This was a great idea bkwrm

If I could live anywhere in the world, I'd probably live along the Washington or Oregon coast. I spent several years of my life down there, and love it. When we retire, we may end up back down there. Right now, with the economy being so finicky and my DH and I doing fine, I think we'll stay put for a while.

My question: If a genie were to grant you three wishes, what would they be?

For me, #1: A permanent cure for Type I diabetes. #2: A permanent cure for rheumatoid arthritis. #3: That people everywhere would wake up and take responsibility for their own actions and be respectful of all other people.

A few years back my husband sent in a letter to the "Ainsley Harriot Show". They picked us to go to NY and be on the show. It was a cooking show where they had celebs come on and cook. We met Chris Noth aka Mr. Big and also Tommy Davidson (comedian) and then got to stay for the filming of the next show and met Steven Baldwin. It was the chance of a life time!!

If you could live anywhere in the world....where would it be?

OOps forgot to say where I would like to live....for some reason....not to sure why but I have always wanted to live in Montana. My mom even said as a kid I would ask to move there. I don't know anyone who lives there or been there either. Who knows?? :)

I do both. Sometimes, I eat them and sometimes, I throw them away. I like to use them for sopping up salad dressing or gravy but if I don't have those things in my meal then I toss them.

My question is have you ever met anyone famous and if yes, who?

The closest that I've ever got to anyone famous is my uncle (Bob Arnott) who used to write for the Sonny and Cher show, The Hudson Brothers' Show, The Smothers' Brothers, the Carol Burnett Show and America's Funniest Home Videos among others.

And here I thought no one wanted to confess their teenage antics !!!!! WHEW. Glad that question is gone.

My favorite stone is a Tennessee Pearl. They come from freshwater and look nothing like a cultured pearl. They are very irregular shaped. Of course, this is next to diamonds !!!

This next question is dinky, I admit, but it did cross my mind this morning.

Do you eat the heel of the bread or throw it away? I eat it, but it has to be a peanut butter sandwich, and the two heels have to be used together...that's the only way.

What is the craziest thing you did while still a teenager?

I would open a home for those that have no home, no job. Provide the training they need to get back on their feet and have the ability to sustain that for themselves/family. This has been a dream of mine for a while, but unfortunately the money is no object doesn't apply...

I must admit that extreme weather scares me, too. It's so unpredictable. But, the thing that most scares me is something really bad happening to someone I love like being murdered or killed by a drunk driver or something like that. I really can't imagine anything worse than that.

If you could have any job in the world and money was no object, what would you like to do?

I'd like to own a small, local bookstore.

Right now I would take the money and budget it so that my DH could take a lower paying job in our area ( he's without right now) and make it so that we never have to move again.

What is the thing that scares you the most? ( that you're afraid of). Mine would be getting caught in a tornado. I get overly nervous every time a thunderstorm comes ( and WIND) don't get me started.

This sounds interesting so here goes. My last meal would be BBQ ribs from Texas Roadhouse, baked potatoe with loads of butter and sour cream, fried zucchini and onion rings, salad with everything and blue cheese dressing, with pumpkin pie with whip topping for dessert.
Now my question If you were on an island alone with just one person who would you want that to be?
Me it would be Patrick Swayze (from back before though he is still good looking)

Okay. I'm a nosy parker and I love finding out things about people so I'm starting this topic to discover these tidbits. I was thinking that I would ask a question that the first person to answer could respond to and then that person could ask something that they want to know and so on and so on. And, the person asking the question should also answer the question. 'kay?

Here's my first question:

If you were on death row, what would you request for your last meal?

My answer:

I would ask for roast chicken w/skin, dark meat only, garlic-mashed potatoes, grilled zucchini, salad with caesar vinaigrette dressing and Lindor chocolate for dessert.
