I am not growing anything but will do so this coming spring! I live in an apartment so have to use containers and the deck :)

I would like to grow my own herbs but I do not have a green thumb, everything seems to die around me. Too much stress in my life is probably the reason, not a healthy environment for plants.

Thanks, I'll take a look. I've read about a couple of plants that I can't find locally, maybe they will have those as well.

I would check out better homes and garden's website(bhg.com), or burpee.com
They have wonderful plans for shade gardens, and you can purchase a multitude of great plants from either company. I have personnally used burpee, and all of my plants came perfectly safe, properly packaged, still moist and in wondeful condition.

Finally some good weather. Got out in the garden on Sunday to lay out my planting scheme for a new raised garden. Iím finding it hard to come up with an interesting pattern for shade plants. They donít have as many color choices and Iím getting bored with variations of green.

If you can dedicate a small space, you can get a metal 4 or 5 tiered metal or plastic industrial shelf at home depot, hook up some grow lights and grow herbs right there!, or even get some window boxes so you can just hang em over your window sill, and plant and snip.

I grow most of my herbs in strawberry jars. Although I have a yard, I also have two large dogs. The two donít mix well.

With the strawberry jars they can go on the front porch in spring through fall & come in to keep me in fresh herbs all winter.

The only thing Iíve noticed about having them indoors is that I have to keep a close eye to keep them from drying out. Misting several times a day is important.

I'm curious about indoor herbal gardening. Problem with this apartment, it doesn't have much natural light (drives me nuts). Next payday I will be getting the supplies to start some herbs here in the house. I'll keep notes on what goes on here about which ones to start.

New recipes? Iím always up for that. My coven (read taste testers here) will be dancing in the streets. Oh wait, thatís their normal behavior.

The cinnimon basil is just a tad spicier than traditional basil, but I use it in everything thing I use regular basil in. I usually mix the three, and I get a lovely combination.

I've had lemon and chocolate as well, I did the same thing. Although I think there are some desserts with basil in them. I'll try to find some for you.

Cinnamon Basil? Sounds yummy, does it have a cinnamon flavor, and what do you use it in?

Iíve got Common Basil, Lemon Basil & Chocolate Basil as well as Parsley, & Oregano in a strawberry pot. I love the smell of the Chocolate Basil, but canít find any recipes using it.

I have a rose garden as well. I work with a local nursery naturalizing roses, so I get exotics. Right now I have a Dessert Peace & a Vampires Kiss, both only a couple of years in the ground. The Dessert Peace bloomed like crazy last year. The Vampires Kiss gave up a single bloom.

This year Iím adding a shade garden under the huge tree in my front yard.

I have at the moment 2 types of parsley, Dwarf Curled Leaf, and Common, The dwarf stays low, so it makes a nice grown cover for my garden preventing weeds, and beside, we use alot of it. The larger common variety adds a bit of height and the leaves aren't as crimped. I also have 3 types of basil, Purple Thai Basil, Common Basil and Cinnimon Basil(YUMMY), Had some lavender, but a friend got drunk at a party and stepped on it. It didn't like it much, I have White Sage, and Borage. Have some columbines but they aren't herbs, just pretty., Nasturshum. I will be enlarging the garden in front this year and creating new raised veggie/fruit bed in the back yard. Not quite sure of the plant additions yet, but definately roses again, thyme, and more lavender.

Garnet Wolf and I were talking about gardens under the Equinox thread & it made me think that we need a place for herbs & the like so here it is.

What are you growing? What will you be planting when spring comes to your area?
