Walked my dog tonight. It started raining last night at 11pm and rained until 2:45pm today. I had a doctor appointment this afternoon, but by the time I got home the sun was out so I took my dog for a walk or two and she was happy.
On another note, my son got a phone call on the way home from the doctor's about his "nephew" (really not his nephew legally but the parents and my son have known each other since early school days and been best friends, so they spent a lot of time together) anyway they ended up taking him to Kosair's Children's Hospital in Louisville,KY tonight. My son went up there with them. He called about 40 minutes ago to say they made it. The little one started having seizures - he's not two yet I don't think - on top of that he has some kind of heart problem. So they're starting tests tonight on him. I hope they can find out what's going on. I know everyone is worried sick about it.
So now I'm catching up on Sparkpeople.com while watching March Madness - the University of Kentucky Wildcats playing West Virginia. On the road to perfection - rooting for our big blue nation Cats! They're headed for the Elite 8 and a 37 and 0 record for this season. They play Notre Dame next on Saturday. I hope I can find the game online.
Need to wind down. I've been totally unproductive the past two weeks. I seriously need to do something other than cook, dishes and laundry.
Glad you were able to replace the GPS. I hope your plumbing problems are taken care of too.
We had to get our car battery replaced too during one of our snow storms - the one in February. The car died. My son's cousin jumped it and he let it run for a while. Next morning his cousin tried to jump it and nothing, so his cousin took him to get one. He went to Paducah (only place to get one and it was 20 miles away) and he got the last battery that would fit our car at Advance Auto. So he lucked out. They came back and his cousin put it on and got it running again. He said just about everyone he saw that day was having to buy car batteries. So at least he wasn't alone.
It's been a long day, so I'll check in maybe tomorrow if I get the chance. Take care.

Not a lot of hking done today. walked around the park with Dalhouise. Walked to the plaza and back again pushing a little cart.. I had to go buy a new car battery. When I came back from our bike adventure in Surrey I accidentally left the dome light on and so the next day I had a very dead battery. I called the motor club and got a boost.. Dave around for an hour and let the car idle for about half an hour.. Turned it off and went to bed. Next day I go try to start the car it is a no go.. Battery is dead again. I had inklings that it was going before and I think this was the last straw with the dome light left on. Thus the walk to go buy a new battery.. Once I got the batter home the plumber was just about to leave from doing a job here on site.. ( do you remember my last month plumbing bills) well I asked him if he would help me change the battery as I don't have tools.. He agreed - nice guy...
The car works now and so we drove got some groceries and I bought a new hand held GPS.
Remember my GPS died when I tried to turn it on on the bike trip to Surrey. I need to have a GPS for Mexico in five days from now..
I didn't buy a better one - same brand and company as the one I had because it was on sale. Discontinued .. So I got it for 89 dollars.. Regular I see was 199.$. I just didn't want to spend so much money right now. Need it for our vacation and property taxes and ultiities tax coming due in the nex 60 days.
Hopefully it will work ok for a year or so..

I love hearing about your adventures. I haven't been anywhere lately but to doctors appointments and home. Tomorrow's another doctor appointment, and I'm hoping it'll be it's usual speedy 15-20 minute deal. I need to stop by Sams Club to pick up a few things as my son will be leaving next Wednesday to go to Nashville with some friends and he's taking my car, as usual. The agony of a one car family (lol).
It's been crazy mixed up weather this week. It was 72 Monday, yesterday barely 52, and back in the 70s today. Unfortunately a cold front and thunderstorms will roll in overnight. Grrr...I never know how to dress! Short sleeves or jacket or what. I'll be glad when the weather makes up its mind and stays nice & sunny & warm.
So far there's nothing to make photos of as far as spring foliage is concerned this year. The bird's are not cooperating with me either. By the time I get them in my sights they're gone.
My son and one of his friends have a production company (small town thing but it's slowly taking off). My son just joined with his friend in the last couple of months so his job as Manager of Operations is still all new. It's nothing full time so he still works at Best Buy full time. He's trying to get me working on a cookbook and I've been doing some of that. I have a folder of recipes for him to sort through and then we'll have to figure out which ones to do and then type them in the correct format. My son told me it will probably have to be done in several cookbooks since I have so many recipes. Plus we'll be testing recipes and making photos too so that will be interesting to say the least.
For now my walks are boring and around town. Every now and then I'll run into someone and talk to them for a few minutes. I live in a very small town in far western Kentucky - where Missouri/Illinois/Kentucky meet near the junctions of the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers (about 7 or 8 miles at the most from my house). So there's not much here. My dog loves it when we walk over to the bbq place and get lunch there, but it's not that often. One of these days I'll take a walk and make a few photos (without my dog - she'll be so insulted!) and post them.
Sounds like you're staying busy. I hope you can go geocaching soon. Sounds interesting.
Take care.

Thank you..
Yesterday I walked Dalhouise in the morning around the pond for a hour.

Came home ate lunch and drove to Surrey/ Cloverdale area to bicycle 11 miles around the area waiting for our friends to get off work.

They invited us to join them for supper at the fish and chips restaurant. I thought the area was flat.. Boy I was wrong.. Up hill we peddled and down hill we flew over and over.

Luck was on our side... It didn't rain. We had slight winds and sunny conditions with overcast moments. We rode all around the place exploring dead end streets and nooks and crannies...
In the morning I loaded my GPS - I planned to geocache as we cycled. When I arrived and turned my device on - it did not. I changed the batteries - still nothing - it is dead. I have been having issues with it - having to keep hitting the reset button.. Now even that does not work.
So NO geocaching done today.. That almost changed my mood - but on top the hill looking over towards the route I was about to go I see a spot I exspect to see birds - I didn't see what I thought I would but I was hopeful and once I began riding that was enough happiness

Today I feel like I accomplished something .. Checking the bank account early I found to my delight that the income tax refund was in.. Hurray... So I was able to pay off the visa and put some money in our RRSP s for next year tax breaks and some into our savings... Then I went and did some banking for my mother at the bank and while I was there I put some money into one of my account to pay for my life insurance policy that is due in April. Next it was a stop at Service Canada to print out the application for my wife's permanent resident card that is due this year and then over to Walmart to get pictures for this application. Did a stop at the drug store to get a copy of Mom's prescriptions tax report receipt and then a drive to the accountants office so that Mom can get her taxes done. Earlier in the day I collectd all her receipts and papers. Now it is out of my hands - hers is more complicated than mine and so I did not want to make mistakes.
I walked Dalhouise to the post office where I mailed a couple of postcards and bought some stamps and postcards already stamped so that I can mail more. (Hint)

I love the blooms and the birds! I've been trying to catch some photos of birds around here but so far they've all been to quick to leave. Learning to use a new camera is always a royal pain for me but eventually I'll get it figured out.
I hope you will be able to see some different birds while you're away. That's always fun. I managed to make a photo of a little bird huddled up on my porch rail during the rain but SP says the file is too big emoticon I guess I need to learn more about my camera so that I can post my photos.
Have a great week!

I've been chalking a lot of my blood pressure ups to helping my 87 year old Aunt. She has a walker that I have to get out of the trunk when we go in anywhere (I help her with her errands and doctors appointments) then put back. I'm sure that hasn't helped. She's one you ask her where she needs to go and she'll tell you one thing then on your way home she decides she needs to go somewhere else. I don't mind but it can get stressful. We see our primary care doctor together and she's always wound up so much when we leave. She also gets in her "I hate for you to have to do all this"moods and that drives me bananas. I always tell her I don't mind and I don't but I can tell when my blood pressure is going up.
So far (knock on wood) my migraines have finally eased up. I had two real bad days this week but they've eased up a lot. Maybe the higher blood pressure was part of the problem with that. I'm hoping so. My blood pressure's been much better since the doctor upped the dose. I've just felt tired but that's one of the side effects until your body gets used to it. So we'll see about that.
Yesterday my dog and I took two decent walks.
It's taking me longer to get up and go these days. Usually about 2 or 3pm I'm feeling great but up until then I just can't seem to get going. I guess because I'm a night owl (lol) but I've been trying to go to bed earlier and get up earlier but it's just not working. Maybe it's just the change in meds.
I think it's in the 50s today but cloudy. Earlier this morning when I let my dog out it looked like it had been raining. I'm hoping no more rain because I'm planning on a couple walks with my dog today.
No I don't ride horses any more. I'm too old for it. Besides I'm such a klutz I'd probably fell off it and I don't need another concussion or broken bones. One little kid was feeding it cheetos. She sent me a photo of it and if you zoomed in on it his tongue was barely sticking out and you could see a spot of orange on it from eating cheetos. The kid was probably 3 or 4 and was just in love with the horse.
Take care. Don't overdo it. Talk with you later.

You didn't ride your neighbours horse home? :)
Blood pressure I am sure my was out of wack today as the trip to Vancouver with my mother was a stressful day.. She can be so stubourn and child like at times.. And today was no exception .. But it is over now.. I am home and I can relax..
I bought a postcard today to send to the east coast. To a young girl who is collecting postcards as well. I know the family and the mom is happy that I will send her daughter one and promises that I will receive one as well.. So today I stopped into a convince store and bought two.. One for me and one for her..
I hope your migrains disappear soon

You had a job cleaning all the kitchen, and to think you have to do it again.
Well my walk with my dog (the second one today) was interesting. My neighbor lives in the county (right behind my property which is in the city) and she has a horse. Well, it got out. It was over in another part of town, but some people were with it trying to find out who it belonged to. When I got up there, they asked me and I called my neighbor and told her where the horse was. I told the people that were walking with the horse where it belonged and how to get there so they started leading it back towards the owner's house. That horse has a little houdini in him. He's always doing an escape. At least this time, he was easy to find.
Other than that the only thing going on is the weather's cooled down, the wind's cold and it's a cloudy dreary day. At least we've not had the rain they said we would. I was so used to those 70s and sunshine.
Went to my retina specialist Monday and he's crazy. He got all excited because I have Weiss rings in both eyes - large floaters only he calls mine artistic because one looks like a hangman's noose and the other a stirrup on a saddle. I told him my other floaters were just as fun - an eyeball (like you see drawn from the side), floating "chains" that look like cells. I hate that bright light he shines in my eyes - but Monday it was double time because he had someone with him and he had to let her see it too. Otherwise my eyes are fine, not any change in the wet macular degeneration in my left eye.
Tuesday was my appointment with my primary care doctor. Unfortunately my blood pressure has done another number - every year or two about this time it sky rockets to where we end up playing with the meds until June trying to get it back under control. So he upped my one med and this could be the reason my migraines have increased. I had a really bad on Tuesday and Wednesday but today has been a good day. It's my second day on the increased dosage. Checking my blood pressure several times a day and it's looking a lot better, so hopefully at the end of three weeks there won't need to be any more changes.
My dog hates to go to the groomer too. I usually take her for a walk then drop her off and she doesn't like that a bit.
Well, I hope you have a good week Marty. I haven't been anywhere to look for postcards. I had some at the house but I put them in a safe place and can't figure out where it is. Me and my safe places! I put your address in my appointment book so when I go out I'll be reminded to look. Maybe you bought some real gems in that lot of postcards.
Take care.

My body is still sore a day after the scrubbing of the kitchen. I cleaned everything including the ceilings, walls and all table surfaces and shelving.
The hardest part now is knowing I have to go back in and reclean it all before I actually start cooking and serving.
Dalhouise is away at the groomers.. I took him out for an early morning walk and then dropped him off. He was so sad and tried to dart out the door escaping from the hug of the groomer when I approached the door. Poor little guy.. He knows..
Now I am home and the house is so empty without him.. I miss him .. Crazy eh!

After dropping Dalhouse off I walked downtown Squamish to the secondhand flea market. I went in and asked if they had any postcards.. The man behind the counter said maybe and pulled out a bundle over four inches high. What I could see - the date of some postage stamps are 1926
I ask how much.. He was not sure.. We browsed through them and he said I could have them all for 25 dollars - I said I have a twenty .. He said OK and I walked out with a bundle of older postcards..
Not sure yet haven't done due dillgence ... But one quick view on Google is that one set is worth 15 dollars alone. And I have several.. So I may have lucked out big time... Regardless I am happy with my growing collection.

Going to work.. I havent said that in awhile. But tomorrow morning I must wake up and get ready to go to work. Over the winter the kitchen has grown a covering of mould to keep warm I guess. So before the fire inspector comes in, before the maintence man can come in and repair broken pipes, before the fridge maintence company comes in to do a cleaning -- I must come in and remove the mould..
Wonderful...
Today I went and bought a safety mask because I am going to wash the kitchen with bleach..
I have a solid day of scrubbing to do.. I am going to be so tired tomorrow night...

Marty, It sounds like you've been really busy and enjoying the bikes. I love the photos too! I can't wait for things to really come out down here in Western Kentucky so I can take some walks with my new camera and see what I can find. Heck, I'll even settle for using my phone camera (lol).
I've written down your address so I can send you postcards especially during my travels this summer. I'll have to see if I can find something from around here next time I'm out and about.
I've been out of commission so to speak with my migraines the past few days. I had an appointment with the neurologist Thursday. Up until then they weren't too bad. Then sitting in the office waiting, the crazy weather we're having, and visiting some friends and being around four little boys all under the age of four was interesting. Needless to say I ended up with just a mild headache. Then within 36 hours the big one hit and it's kept me down since. Then all the rain. It finally ended yesterday (the rain) and I was able to take a couple real short walks with my dog Precious.
Today I'm feeling a bit better. My migraine has lessened considerably. So I was able to enjoy a walk with Precious today. It's in the 60s and feels like the 70s, so needless to say it feels like heaven right now! I'll be taking at least two more dog walks this afternoon - my dog is 13 so she doesn't get around as good as she used to. (Seven years ago she was hit by a truck and hurt pretty bad but she bounced back like a trooper - the vet still can't believe how good she gets around for her age). So we take shorter walks.
I'm looking forward to my vacation the end of June. I'm hoping my brother and I can take a few hikes in the Mountains of NE Tennessee and Western North Carolina. Plus my best friend and I walk everyday when I'm there. Then in September we'll head to Florida for two weeks so there will be a lot of walking on the beach.
I hope you have a fantastic week. I can't wait to hear of your latest adventures.

Made time ths day to take the car into the service center for its spring semi annual maintence and winter tires removal.. Shopping for the supplies to cook Mac and cheese for fifty people at church Sunday and to go for a two and half hour bike ride and a visit with Mom. I guess it was a successful day... I even BBQ supper for Noni and I. I did some birding while riding our bikes and came across this unknown duck.. It looks like a Mallard hybrid cross with either a Green wing Teal or Wigeon..

supper BBQ

almost got stopped

spring is here

must not forget winter

come on

Dalhouise next week goes to the groomers

Time ... I had so much of it that it seemly stood still. Now the days are beginning to go faster and faster. Yes there is a bump in the race track.. My trip to Mexico can't come fast enough.
However last night I did my taxes for 2014 - been putting it off ... but last night I filed them.
Last week I had my eye appointment and this week picked up my new glasses.
Today I made the appointment at the garage to have my car receive it's semi annual maintence done and snow tires taken off. Next week Dalhouise will be going to the groomers.
Before the end of the month I need to take Mom to Vancouver....
Once work begins I won't have many opportunities during the day to get away from work. I need to cook breakfast, lunch, supper..
So as we put all our ducks in their row.... there are so many little things that need to be done before we move from thenCondo to the little cabin in the woods and Work.

I think the purchase of the bike rack might be my best decision in a long time. It is easy to put on and take off the car. More importantly is the fact that it is extremely easy to load the bikes onto it and off.
As I drove down the highway I kept an eye in the rear view mirror making sure the bikes were still with us. Stress.. But no need to be fretting about that.. When we arrived at our designation about 43 miles from home.... All was well - fastened just as I left home.

The day was cold and overcast, but there were no uphills to deal with. Yesterday's ride was more up than down and Noni did not like it at all - I was not too happy either but I took it in stride figuring I was burning more calories going up. However it sure was pleasant driving along flat dikes and seeing the sights.

This day was suppose to be sunny and 17c ... I don't know what happened because it was cold and overcasted and slightly windy. The good thing was I was dressed for it.. I was chided by my wife when we left home from Squamish, that I was overly dressed.. I proved to be the one warm and cozy as we biked today in Steveston. I have been wanting to do this now for a few years and with our new bike rack - this was the day to do so with the false pretences of a hot sunny day getting me going. Of course I had the GPS - I get to geocache and bike and do some birding all in the same day... Can life get any better? I ask myself.
The only thing that made it better.. I actually found some caches, and seen some birds and the riding was not all uphills. Life is so good.

So I bought the bike rack but so far it remains inside my car. But that is ok because I did go for a hour walk with the Dalhouise and then this afternoon went biking riding with my wife for two hours. Man there is a lot of up hills compared to the down hills.
In the sun it was very warm - but the shaded areas sure were cooler.. Should I wear my jacket or not... One moment I was too hot then I was chilled to the core. For awhile I took off my outer heavy jacket and tried to pedal to keep warm but that wind.
Oh that wind howled in my ears... Litteraly howling so loud .. and cold on my chest and stomach.. So back on went my jacket - and it felt so warm and cozy.

Sounds like you were busy with the cooking. I laugh every time I see real men don't eat quiche. My dog is most unhappy with me today. I woke up with a migraine and left knee/ankle pain. Then my right heel cracked. Ugh!!! Nothing much today at all. Just hobbling around the house when my head eases up. It's at that stage where I never know which way it's going to go. It's been coming and going for the last couple hours. Think it's coming back which means I need to take my migraine meds.

I hope you had an enjoyable afternoon. The snow's melting as it was in the 40s today. Mostly cloudy and some wind which was blowing that cold air from the snowy areas around. Now we're supposed to get more rain. Ugh! Two doctor appointments this week - Monday & Tuesday. Tuesday's iffy because I can't see to drive in the rain so if it's raining it'll have to be rescheduled which I hate to do.

Hope everyone has a great week

The sun is shining brightly yesterday and today..
I did cook a breakfast for 30 men on Saturday but only half actually showed up.. So I had lots of left over food that was given away to one of the families that need some extra help..
I was teased about serving the quiche - you know real men don't eat quiche ...
Then I came home and slept two and half hours... I really was not feeling well .. And so once more I lost a sunny bright day.. I manage a short walk with Dalhouise ... Noni took him out earlier in the morning for a long walk..
Today I woke up before the set alarm .. With the time change I wanted to make sure I was not late for church.. Walked Dalhouise then managed to get to church on time.. I think many others did not make the time change as we had a lot of free space today.
Now I am in the process of deciding what to do this afternoon.. I am hoping for a bike ride..
But I am still feeling slightly out of sorts.. But I don't want to waste this afternoon.

Sounds like you've had a busy week! Your job sounds really busy! I know you're truly appreciated for making the food from scratch, it's always so much better that way and better for you.
I'm waiting for the snow/ice to melt here in Western Kentucky. I tried shoveling a path to the street since it's clear. Unfortunately where the snow plow came through (shockingly four times) the snow is piled high and yesterday morning it was -6 F so the little melt from the prior day was ice ice icy! Wednesday was a wash it rained all day, then we had sleet, then a wintry mix before it turned into snow. At times we had near white out conditions - could barely see across the street. Woke up to a minimum of 8 inches of snow on the ground. Hard to find a good spot to measure since we had a lot of blowing and some drifting.
My dog wouldn't go out (she's a chow mix). She looked at me like "seriously again?" The vast majority of last months foot of snow had melted Wednesday. She refused to go down the steps. I can't blame her because you really couldn't tell where the last two were due to drifting. So I got the steps swept off and put ice melt down to get that thin layer of ice. My son and I shoveled the sidewalk and made a couple places where Precious could go potty without being nose deep in the snow. She has a rough time because her left hind leg stiffens up to the point she can't walk on it (she was hit by a truck seven years ago and has two plates in that leg). So she finally got to potty. We shoveled a some of the snow that was piled up around the car and cleaned it off so my son could get out to go to work Friday. I had to quit because my back started hurting. Well, yesterday I decide to tackle the pile of snow and it had turned icy. Needless to say ten minutes later I was in severe pain and had to quit.
It's warming up supposedly to the low 40s (F) today so I'm hoping for more melting.
I'm really getting anxious to get out and walk and I know Precious is too.
This is her on the steps.
I've got a bunch of doctor appointments this month. I had a lot that had to be rescheduled due to the doctors being out sick or closed due to weather. I dread the appointment with my retina specialist. I have macular degeneration in the left eye. So it's a royal pain going to see him every three or four months. Then there's neurologist for my migraines, and the rest of my doctors to see this month. Not fun. I hate sitting and waiting and wasting all that time. I'd rather be doing something else. I am disabled because of a head injury back in October 2006. I had two really bad falls, the second one knocked me out and left a baseball size knot on the back of my head. I lost a lot of memories, I could read but I couldn't spell words - played a lot of scrabble to try and remember. So short term memory is next to zilch but it's improved a little bit.
Take care y'all. Have a great weekend!

What happened to yesterday? I don't know.. I did go,for a Dalhouise walk, I went to my appointment to the eye doctor for my annual four year check.. Yes I was scolded for that he wants to see me every two years. I went now because I know I needed new reading glasses..no choice. Then the day was gone..
Today I have plans to go to Vancouver .. I was asked by my employer to go pick up at the kitchen supply place the new sink and tables he ordered. My kitchen is getting a face lift.. Hurray! Since I want to get some new pots and other trinkets, I will gladly go especially since he is paying for the gas and items..
I will also stop in at one of the supper stores to buy some food for the men's breakfast I was asked to cook for. I have said no on a couple of occasions ... But the man who was going to do it made other plans and backed out after the church organized this function ... So in desperation they asked me to help -- what can I do? I said yes.. And so now I must shop and prepare this meal. Tomorrow about thirty men will be coming - that is not so bad - but the churches kitchen sucks... That makes it difficult to cook..
I have decided to cook and serve .. Oatmeal - bacon - sausage - hashbrowns - Eggs probably scrambled and pancakes. My wife will make cinnamon buns for me to bring later today.

I need to get ready - gotta go to camp to pick up the camp van as my car is too small for the new tables and sink.. I will bring Dalhouise with me so he can run a it before I bring him back home and pick up Noni. Then into the big city we go..
Have a good day everyone.

I was surprised when my wife got dressed and was ready to go walking with me this morning.
Normally I walk alone with Dalhouise around ten.
Well today the three of us went hiking together. Cool at first but soon we boh were unzipping as we warmed up walking in bright sunshine.

The scenery was pretty amazing.
Bird sightings were alittle scarce but still rewarding..

Today the family - Noni and Dalhouise and I went shopping in Vancouver, eating at our now not favorite restaurant and then hiking with a mission to locate a geocache. Lighthouse Park - a beautiful place but our hearts were going thump thump, thump .. Up up up the trail went, then we took this other path that was not a main trail but the GPS said to go that way.. It was up and over bare rock where both Noni and Dalhouise slipped.. Then we had to go down this slippery steep path that almost didn't seem even like a trail.. Eventually we came upon a large trail .. We walked on giving up the idea of finding a cache as the distance now was indicating further away, and we were not going to turn back I that route we just came from. Just hiked on enjoying the sun and wilderness until we came to the shoreline of the coast.
I have been here before so I knew where we had to go to get back to the car ... Off we go.
Once we arrived at the paring lot I give Noni the keys and tell her to rest with Dalhouise as I wanted to go look for this cache one more time. I move at a fast pace back to the General location of cache where we had became disoriented ... I stop to catch my breath... And the GPS begins to settle down - I am about ten feet from it. I look high and low and zap there it is.

It was a good day

What do I? Who am I ?

We work at a children's camp. Spring and fall we have school groups come to learn team work and bonding or year end field trip. Summer is straight fun summer camp activities. I am in charge of managing the kitchen the owner just wants to come and eat and pay the bills everything else is left to me. I plan the menu - order supplies - keep a record of stock - cook all soups, sauces, entrees and also prepare and cook all special need menu items such as vegitarian, gluten free, egg and dairy free special needs..
My wife does all the baking and prepares food for a 30 - 40 item salad bar every lunch. I also help her with prep for this too
We make 90% of all our food from scratch.
We have home made bread every day - home made soup every lunch.
Ths sounds like a lot? It is... But we do it for six months with a few days off here and there. I am good at multi taskng but I do become grumpy as I tire out. However it is very satisfing to me to see happy faces eat my food.
We cook roast beef, Turkey, chicken, ham dishes.. Tacos, Mac and cheese ( not Kraft dinner but the real thing) we have a BBQ meal, grilled cheese with tomato soup, chicken fingers ( processed) you get the idea.
I make soup from the stock of the beef or chicken turkey meals and gravy all fresh.
If you are serving beef gotta have some Yorkshire pudding.. Yes I do that too and this is for children ...
I love my job other wise I would not be doing it ... But I get so tired by the end of next fall.

I can only dream of ever hiking a real long trail .. Especially in warmer seasons

I like naps - shorter ones would be better as I don't want to waste my days sleeping. Pain.. I know alittle about this too - I was involved in a head on car collision going back now almost ten years - I survived.... I healed above and beyond expectations thanks to the grace and mercy of God... But I do have pins and rods inside my body that help keep me humble. And pains that are both related from the accident and the fact I am not getting any younger...
Time... Right now I am unemployed - that is changing in 45 days or so as I have been told the start up date of my seasonal employment is April 11 --- then I won't have time for the fun things anymore for six months. That is not fully true I make time to have fun even during the working season.... But I do live and breath my job. I love my job. I treat it as I am the owner and thus. Must be on top of all things related to running the kitchen with care - pride - responsibility and love. Just so you have an idea I am given two younger usually immature - poorly motivated helpers to be my helpers - ie dishwashers front of the house people.. my wife and I do all cooking to feed 180 people three meals a day and a snack. So what time is left is given over for Rest..

Living where I do - on the west coast of main land BC this month will usher in Spring - we are always a month ahead of the eastern provinces.. I think...
Today after church and a short visit with Mom I came home and napped for two hours.. I must had been real tired.

Sounds like fun hiking. You're braver than me going at night. I don't even walk around my neighborhood at night, it's too dark and you just never know what kind of animals are out there.
That's exciting news about seeing the owl! I'm glad you were able to see it. I love to watch the birds while I'm outside walking/hiking. No place around to go to actually see large numbers. Although I'm in the country I do see a few daily like the Canadian geese flying over and various ducks and a white goose that's name escapes me. Yesterday there were a lot of robins in the neighborhood which is a good sign. I also saw Cardinals (male & female), starlings, a few mourning doves and a few sparrows. What I really like is when the Bald eagles fly over - they have a nesting area not too far from me - those sightings are the best. I've seen a few hawks but couldn't tell what kind and can't find my bird book.
Your days at the sanctuary sounds fabulous! Good luck with future sightings.

Yesterday I finally went to the George Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary in Delta BC. It was a fabulous day birding. The drive getting to it was not the most pleasant but all was forgotten in the joy of seeing so many birds, including three lifers.
I went hoping to see the Sandhill Crane, ( I did) but I also saw the Great Horned Owl and the Black crowned Heron.. Just amazing. My listed bird seen for the day ---- Trumpter Swans, American Coots, American Widgeons, Northern Pintails, Rock Doves, Euraisan Doves, Robins, Starlings, Canada Geese, Mallard Ducks, Spotted Towhees, Song Sparrows, Fox Sparrows, Black capped Chickadees, Red wing Blackbirds, Great Blue Heron, Northern Shovelers, Wood Ducks, Hooded Mergansers , Common Mergansers, Buffleheads, Golden crown Kinglets, Anna Hummingbirds, Cooper Hawk, Bald Eagles, and Greater and Lesser Scaups.
I think that includes my list of the day - like I said it was a fabulous day.

I contacted my friend who has been posting pictures of the Great Gray Owl. At first he was hesitant of telling me where.. Must have felt guilty because he called me late last night and gave good directions of where he has been seeing it. I wake up several times in the night with anticipation because of this new information. Up at six am - I am out the door just before seven and on the trail by 0710 hr hours. I walk with much hope building and failing as I begin to think I won't see it. I turn my head and there it is... I get two quick pictures before it flies away.. I am so pleased, so full of joy.... I seen it, that is all I needed and a picture as proof.
Later in the morning when walking with my wife we seen it again and Once again I was able to quickly snap a few more photos. I am a happy happy camper...

Out the door to drive to the Estuary.. I have heard reports that a Great Grey Owl has been spotted in the area. People are being careful not to mention the exact spot.. So I went hiking at dusk last night two trails and then this morning I went out again and rehiked the two and another one. The last trail looked more promising with many ever green trees. No luck..
Nevertheless I enjoyed the hike.
It is a strange feeling last night walking in the woods in darkness. Oh the thoughts of bears, cougars, wolves and other things that go bump in the night..... That entered my mind..
Then I began thinking about the people who are about to through hike the PCT trail or the Appalachian trail. Months of wandering in the wilds - that would be scary..

Sounds like you've had some adventures. I've not been able to get out of the house since last Thursday's trip to the grocery store. We had a minor ice storm then rain on top of all our snow. The daily highs won't reach the freezing point this week. So since the streets are icy here in town, I'm stuck in. My dog's most unhappy to say the least.
Hope you have a good week and some less costly adventures. Take care.

Spent several hours walking and sitting in Vancouver. Chinese New Year parade brought us to the big city and then we walked around afterwards looking and investigating different markets. Who needs to travel thousands of miles to get a taste of China when it is right in your backyard. On the other hand... This is only a taste of the real thing thousands of miles away - just wetting the appetite - a tease. Hmmmm I wonder if a future vacation to China should be in the making or not.

I should had gone for the car ride to Vancouver or Whistler! If saving money was the goal.
We went for our bike ride but that did not prevent a stop to do some shopping... Our tires were a little low so I stopped at them community center that has a little bike repair corner to pump up our deflated tires. The pump was broken - more air went out of the tire than what went in. Still enough to ride further to where we bought them last year... So off we ride tomthen bike shop.
As quick as you can say one two three I have purchased Noni a nice new pink basket, an odometer and a new U lock. Leaving the store 30 minutes later I was two hundred dollars less.
Ouch...
From there we can continued to ride around the village - over and around to the beach area and then eventually back home. From the reading of the new odometer IT said 13.5 km.
I estimate between three and four Km to the bike shop from our place. So this would be about 18 k in total. 10 miles.roughly.

I have been out for a walk this morning with a couple of friends, now I have to decide what to do this afternoon. It is sunny and warm. I see effects of wind blowing the tree branches and long grass growing in my flower pots - so I am debating whether or not I should go for a bike ride. Noni wants to get out of the house.. I could drive to Whistler or Vancouver but this will cost gas money and most likely money spent shopping as well. I want to save some money so I don't particuly want to do either of those last two options. Noni is pasting around the house so I know she is very bored.
So I thnk it will be a bike ride.. After all it is sunny and warm - the rains will be coming back too soon..

Sounds like a wonderful day out. I've got cabin fever something awful. All this ice and snow has put an end to my daily walks with my dog. This Arctic cold is murder on my asthma too. Will be so glad for warmer weather. Waiting for the freezing rain to get here. Not liking that at all. We already have a foot of snow, now the ice is coming then tomorrow heavy rain. Weather's so screwed up. I hope y'all can get out again and enjoy the days. Take care

The sun is shining and it is very warm out. I went for a morning walk with Dalhouse and a friend from church then I came home and suggested to my wife's that we drive to West Vancouver.
My friend told me about Ambleside Park that has a pond with lots of birds. Blue Herons, Swans, Ducks, Teals, Spottd Towhees, House Sparrows and Gulls. He was correct. I brought a container of bird seed and Noni was so happy to feed the hungry flock. Then we went walking and walking and walking along the Seawall.
We had made a quick stop at the mall where I bought a new pair of shoes, lunch and some groceries.
I thnk this will help in breaking the February Blues - cabin fever..

I'm glad you're here. I hope you'll join us in our virtual walks on the Appalachian Trail or Pacific Crest Trail or any other trails. The presentation sounds interesting. I've read several books by people who've hiked either the AT or PCT. I found Garth Rides for Hope's facebook page. Thanks for sharing that with us.

Noni and I just came home from the public library 2000 hr hours.. At 1800 hr hours was the start of a talk of a man who has cycled five continents. I was impressed with his slide presentation. He talked constantly ... My butt became a little restless, but nevertheless it was a good talk. I went to his Facebook page when I came home .. Garth Rides for hope
I am encouraged to get out on my bike more..
I seen this posting in the public library page so I thought it would be good for us to go to break up our wet rainy winter days

Yes it's boring! I've been enduring the cold this winter by getting out and walking my dog, otherwise I'd be so depressed and bored stiff. I'm planning my vacation in June and in September but that's a long way off. I'm going stir crazy. Too much I could do but I don't want to do it because I am bored.
Can your wife get out for short walks with you? That would be something you could do together. Hope your boredom passes soon.
Walks in the rain are fine in warm weather, but it's too cold out here - can't risk pneumonia.
Take care.

Cabin Fever... Finally this depressing winter time feeling is upon my wife and I. We have a vacation planned for the first week of April but that is a long time away.
We are sitting in our chairs bored.. TV is boring, Noni is getting bored watching her YouTube videos on baking.. I get out for walks but I don't stay out all day.. Maybe I ought to stay out longer... But that is selfish.. Noni is at home bored...
Camp our employment start up date is mid April ... Then we will be longing for time off...
Our funds are low right now.. Otherwise I would plan a Road Trip. .. Might go on one regardless because we are bored.

Swish swash went my shoes in the muck. Every step my feet swish swash along in a very wet muddy trail. So much for keeping my new shoes nice and clean. But I don't care - I am throughly enjoying my walk in the rain.

The rain is falling, I am drained of all energy and I am sitting comfortably in my cozy chair watching birds come and go at my feeders drinking a hot cup of coffee - life isn't so bad

My son and I have been making cookies - 5 batches down and maybe 4 to go plus the fudges and candies. Hope everyone's doing great.

Good to see you here GREBJACK. Sorry you're having to miss your family's cookie baking party.

I'm missing my family's big annual cookie baking party. Hope you all will enjoy baking a batch for me

I'm so jealous! I love the Rockies! I've been there twice - unfortunately I didn't get to do any hiking back then, I just wasn't interested in it. I did walk around a lot. I hope you had a great time.

Mountain goats are like the rest of the goats - stubborn! They hold their ground and just look at you like they're daring you. Lol.

Hope y'all are having a great weekend!
