Hi JATSMOTHER - welcome to SP and welcome to our Team. You have come to a good place for support as you attempt to quit smoking AND lose weight at the same time. Those are two BIG steps in your life at the same time and because of this could impact on your depression more than you realize.
Take your time to look around the site and read the articles. You may find that when your son is with his Dad, by reading the articles it will take your mind of things more than you realize. I know many of us, me included, have forgotten about meals while engaged here - LOL!
The other thing that you can do that is very helpful, is to take advantage of being on your own, and going for a walk out in the fresh air. It gives you a chance to think (hopefully GOOD thoughts) and to plan. OR you can take your music with you and enjoy that, OR an audio book! Many people 'read' books this way, killing two birds with the one stone!
I wish you well on your journey - don't forget to check in and let us know how you are getting on. Also, if you have any questions just ask - there is usually someone around so a response shouldn't be too far away.
Take care, and have an enjoyable journey :-)

I'm sorry about your being alone, which can make both tasks even harder. When I was quitting smoking, my doc suggested I go for a walk around the block every time I wanted a smoke. It also helps with depression to get out in the sun for a few minutes.

I'd rather be a has-been than a could-have-been, because a could-have been has never been, but a has was once an are."

Thank you very much. It does help to have someone there to say "you can do it". I hope I fixed my page. I did not intend on it being private. Thank you again for you kind and inspiring words.
Depression is hard and it hits us worse by ourselves. Enjoy the sunshine!
I am sorry JATSMOTHER that you are having a bad day.
I tried to visit your spark page to see if this was your first post to the team but it is set to private. People can better support and encourage you along if it is public. If you intended it to be private make sure you add some positive sparkmembers to your list.
I hope you can find a way to be kind to yourself for the rest of the day. You have started an important journey that producces best results by not doing everything at once - small steps make for long lasting change.
Try going to the motivational section and read one of the many inspiring articles or try journaling/blogging.
Please keep us posted on how you are doing and know you are not alone.

My son is at his dad's and I am having a bad day. I am trying to loose weight, and quit smoking. Today is not a good day for my depression.
