Take it easy today. Whenever I eat out, I always go vegetarian. If it is a set menu like you had, I would have refused the meat and ask them to add more vegetables.

We had p t conferences at school on Monday evening.....they served us brisket, however several of us had stomach issues during the night and then Tuesday.....feeling better this morning and hoping I am on the mend! I was not expecting this to happen....need to eat carefully today so I don't have more issues.

Hi Cathy, sorry to hear you are not doing so well lately. Working with the videos is good, maybe you could get some different ones, or work with some of the workouts on spark people. A change in workouts is great. Not buying tempting foods is a must, just walk past those isles. To get your mind of the weight and food issue, could you take up a new hobby, read an interesting book, take yourself out to a gallery etc as a treat. Doing other things and getting out of the house is a great mood lifter too. I find that once I start a good book, everything else gets left behind, even eating during the day.

Not doing so well lately. I have been eating totally wrong and not getting exercise. I can tell the pounds are coming back on. I have gained at least 6 pounds. I need to get back on track, but it's harder to get back into good habits than it is to fall away from them. I'm going to really try to get started again today. One of my biggest downfalls is eating large amounts of salty, buttery popcorn. I'm not even going to keep it in my house, since I have no control at the moment. I am going to do at least one of the workouts from Total Body Sculpting and some toning exercises. The videos are great, I need to start using them more.

So glad to read you went to church, even if you fell asleep. You're out and about and gettin' that blood pumpin while changing the scenery too. Part of the recovery process. Wooo-Hooo!

Thanks for the advice. I have been trying to st out it the sun some when it is shining. Thought I was feeling better this morning and went to church. Ended up falling asleep. I've been gradually getting better, but just much slower than I would like.

Hi CPATRICK9, I caught a cold the week of Christmas. The week prior I felt so fatigued and unwell, then the cold set in the following week. No temperature or achy joints; just sleepy, head cold, sinus stuff. The cold went away by New Year's Day however, today I still experience this underlying tiredness, lack of energy to finish anything. The whole cold experience was all together unique in its pattern.

In 2006 I was diagnosed with adrenal fatigue, I suspect this cold triggered that fatigue again because I’m suffering most of those small but noticeable symptoms again; easily tired from simple tasks, jumpy, and irritable because I don’t want to be bothered. So, its one-day-at-a-time for me, taking it easy.

Maybe this time your body needs some extra time for healing. Also, if you're not contagious have a friend or significant other take you out for dinner or something. That way if you get tired they can drive. Then the "four walls" won't look like they are closing in on you.

As for what KELTIC-CARA suggested it’s possible that SAD is adding to your lingering ague. I suffer from SAD between Jan through to the last snow fall and overcast. I'll purposely walk the Super Wal-Mart to generate more "happy endorphins" on top of my daily workout. Just an idea for you to ponder too.

Keep in mind you are never alone in your experiences; someone, somewhere is going through it too. Hope you get to feeling better soon…

Hi Cathy, this is not good; since it has gone on for so long I'm hoping you have seen a doctor. You are having your winter at the moment, have you looked into the SAD syndrome. Not having enough sunlight.

Even if you have to rug up; take your coffee or tea - my favorite is peppermint - or better still, a cup of chicken noodle soup and sit outside, when the sun is shining, to have it. Sitting by a window inside is not the same thing, the rays you need can't get through.

It is just a suggestion but I do hope you emoticon

I've been sick since last weekend. It is very frustrating. I've been feeling rotten every day since then. There is very slow improvement, but I still have no energy. I'm tired of being in the house and sleeping most of the time. Hope this changes soon.

Migraine.....part 2 yesterday. They typically don't last like this. I wonder if it is a touch of the flu, but isn't developing because of good eating, exercise, etc....? at least I have my exercise minutes in for the week because I wasn't on the elliptical again last night.

Cathy - It did take a while for an answer, not good. Do not let this experience or this particular organization get to you, they are not all the same. You now have a better understanding of what is involved and what questions to ask should you decided to try another organization.

Sealgirl - great decision in keeping up with the water and to keep moving. Migraines are not fun.

In answer to my problem last month., we did finally hear from the organization, but not until last week. It took 4 weeks for them to call us. We are still not happy. The reason was a total misunderstanding due to language and they will not even let us have any contact with her at all. My daughter is heartbroken. We're finally starting to move on, but are very angry with the organization.

Could use some support. Just last night, our exchange student was yanked out of our home and we don't know why. It happened so quickly that we are in shock, literally. We felt like she was our daughter and this really hurts. Hoping to find some answers. I'm determined this won't knock me off track. I refuse to gain that weight back or I'll feel even worse.

Wow...what a few weeks. Sorry I haven't been on for awhile....my mother in law passed away and we have had family here from different parts of the US for a couple of weeks. the last family members left yesterday morning......still have been going to school and teaching with taking no extra days off. I got back on the scale this morning...not great, but could be worse. I am getting back on track...even got on the elliptical again last night.

I know the feeling. I just did a deposition for a law suit today. The lawyer for the other side was speechless a couple of times. I answered the question asked. Even the court stenographer had to hide her laughter a couple of times. I'm not even sure what was funny other than my honesty.

It is hard to be someone you are not. I tried to conform to society in the early years of my marriage to make my husband happy. It didn't work out. We were both miserable. So, he figured if people can't accept me, he loved me anyway.

He transformed my back yard from a normal city back yard to an oasis. Pond, trellises, cobblestone walkways, a pond. I grew plants to cover it all. If I can ever figure out how to post some of the pictures. I will.

So be you! It is the only person you know how to be! Take care!!

I am right there with you...wish we lived down the road from each other! I, too, have a tough time being me and being strong in those situations. therefore, I try to just be me and find things I can do independently and truly enjoy. Then I am not spending time being someone who I am not.......The other teachers in the building where I am employed have a tough time understanding why I am really very happy going home....to the country....not in town and enjoy being there for the weekend and evenings without having a need to always be meeting someone or going shopping, to a movie, etc!! stay strong with your goals and keep in touch!

Sorry, I had to edit what I wrote. Most DO NOT use pesticides, most use organic fertilizer.

I just read an article on organic food. Plus and minuses. I know I am probably preaching to the choir on this site, but I needed to say, that organic food you buy has been paid for in fees.

A lot of farmers produce organic food, they just can not afford to pay the fees to have it labelled organic. I am not a farmer. I have a postage stamp size yard. I do go to local farmers, markets etc to buy produce. Most do not grow with pesticides, you need to ask how they grow their produce.

Please don't be fooled into paying a lot of money for organic food at the grocery store. Go to a farmer who can't afford the label.

Just found this on another team -- thought this applied to this thread.

Today, I promise I will not quit.
I pledge that no matter, how many ups and downs I pass through, I will continue on my journey.
I pledge to make a NEW START today, and forgive myself for my past, and to stop being so critical of myself.
I pledge to take control of myself, to stop making excuses, and stop blaming other people or situations.
I pledge to treat myself as I would my best friend, because that is who I am.
I pledge to stay in the race and to be a WINNER!

Struggles and Frustrations? How much time do you have? My biggest struggle would be lack of motivation and believing I can accomplish a goal. I start off gung-ho and then WHAM I'm at a standstill. I'm not a fan of exercising but I know it is a necessity to stay strong and to lose weight. It is definitely much more fun when you have someone to do it with. I know....join a class. Well, the problem with that....I live in a small town filled with clickish people. I join a class and feel like an outsider. Amazing how you can be in a room full of people and feel totally by yourself. Then I get depressed from feeling like an outsider and then I quit. People tell me to not pay any attention to these chicks but unfortunately, God didn't hotwire me that way. My feelings get bruised easily. So I go back and forth and accomplish nothing.

Many times, men just lose weight faster than we women do. My husband seems to lose weight without even trying-at least it seems that way. Don't give up. Get those healthy habits in place and keep them. Keep at it. Slow and steady wins the race!

I've been trying to lose weight since I had my son 8 months ago and the weight was coming off and I was getting healthier I just felt it, I got in a slump and for a month or so couldn't lose weight... finally my husband decided he wanted to do a 5K so in his training my weight is starting to come off again I'm eating healthier, working out more (more than just his running) and all out trying as hard as I can and it seems my husband is dropping weight faster than me now he weighs less than me and I'm frustrated and just plain upset... emoticon

Hang in there, Julia. Don't give up on getting good habits going for your kids. Bad habits take a while to form, so they are not going to change quickly. Living on a farm it's easier for my kids to get good exercise. We're in the middle of wheat harvest and there is always plenty to do. I have been working in my garden, which is also good exercise.
I agree with the earlier comment, that when your kids see you exercising, they will eventually change.

Cathy is right. Also start recording your food intake to check your calories per day and that you are getting a good balance of protein, carbs and fat etc. The reports are great for checking out how you are going, and if adjustments are needed.

I have lost 49 lbs last year and I have maintained 170 lbs for about a year. I have tried Dr. Berinstein, Weight Watchers and Herbal Magic over the years and right now I am on Herbal Magic. It is not working, I have lost confidence in the program. I want to get down to 150. My goal was to reach it by my 50th birthday in June. I am 168 today and it is not attainable unless I loose 4 or more lbs per week. It is frustrating. I reset my goal to 160 or less and that is attainable. I am walking, I am doing intensive weight training weekly were my muscles ache from one work out to the other and I do see definition. I have lost the jiggling arms and I can actually see my collar bone. I just can't seem to get these last 20 lbs off.

Julia, Sandra is right. When the girls see your example, they will eventually follow. Until then, you might try hiking or taking walks in parks with them. Even if they don't walk very fast, at least they're up and going. My 8 yr. old son loves to trek thru the woods and we play army and Star Wars (I'm the best shot this side of Pluto, LOL) but it's an effective way to get him outside and moving. We have pretend races with his bike where I'm the race announcer and I interview him after the race, maybe the girls could set up a bicycle obstacle course or something. I know it's really hard to get the kids exercising sometimes, hope this helps.

Auto-Immune since it is too painful to walk each day maybe you could try concentrating on stretching exercises this can help, or working with a ball. The are some yoga exercises that help with weight loss, the elliptical machine is good. Can you find someone who can walk the dog for you on the days you can't go for a walk.

Cathy I had an interesting experience shopping with my mother some years back that has helped me with supermarket shopping. Mum is a vegan and when I went shopping with her she went to the fruit and vegetable section, canned beans and raw nuts, cleaning and toileties sections and then the checkout. I now avoid certain isles. Mum was not persuaded by advertising or coloured drinks etc. I find I don't spend as much money and I don't have certain items in my pantry that will tempt me back to my old ways.

Julia show the girls by example. Just keep doing what you want to do and force yourself to do it consistantly because it is for your welbeing. When the mother is well the family is well. As you lose weight and show you can achieve what you set you mind to they will follow. They will see the results and want to achieve as well.

My biggest frustration is that I have "Plantar Fasciitis " and my feet hurt a lot. It is difficult for me to get rid of this as I feel I must walk at least 20 miles a week. I cannot jog as it is worse. I have tried the shoe inserts from a podiatrist with no solution, best yet are Keen shoes.
I do work out on my elliptical machine but the dog still needs plenty of walking.....

Keep making bad food choices. Need to get back to making healthier ones. I know better, but it sure is easy slipping back into old habits!

Consistancey is hard for me; especially when the girls are home. They also need to lose weight, too. Have been trying to get them to exercise with me. Have to make them go with me to my fitness classes; but can't get them to exercise. With summer coming up I'm trying to figure out , how to get them involed so that I will be able to contintue, with my fitness .

We have a Wii, fitness dvds, handweights, jumpropes and they have bikes, soccer balls and tennis rackets. The problem is they want do anything.

I looking forward to having active and healthy summer.

Does anyone have any suggestion? Thank you!

I have been struggling with my weight for quite a while now. Up 5 down 5. I have about 15 to lose total and I'd be happy but with my emotional eating and depression it has been one long winter and I just kept telling myself it was ok, i would lose it when I got to the summer.
Dream on....I know I was just giving myself an out.

I have plans to start square foot gardening this year, plant grapes and blueberries and apple trees. I'd like to see if we can get somewhat self sufficient, and fruit costs so much. I got a dehydrator and I make jam and preserve by canning so it is possible (as long as I can get my A** moving).

Just ranting and hoping someone can check in with me to see how I am doing. Maybe if I can be accountable to someone it will happen.

Ugh. I've made it to just a hair short of my half way mark. Hit the half way mark twice since March 01. Now I can't seem to make any more progress! I keep gaining and losing the same 5 pounds....... Weekends have been killing my progress and I really need to hunker back down and be good, make better choices in social situations.

I had really thought that as the weather got better and I have been getting out and hitting the trail and walking at lunchtime, I'd get back on the losing track, but what's happened instead is that as the weather is getting better, my friends and I have been finding fun things to do on the weekends-and it always involves food and/or alcohol! I do great during the work week, I'm even wracking up a fair amount of walking mileage at lunchtime, but the structure of my eating plans just falls apart at the weekends!

~Sigh~ I have been working really hard to get out more and be more social, now I need to work on doing that -and- eating better so I can get back on the losing track. I really want to be at goal weight by the end of the year!

My inches are going down. I have lost over 7 inches since I started and have gone down one size. That makes me very happy. I'll see if the scale changes on Wednesday when I weigh in, but I'm not going to stress about it if it doesn't.

Yes, the salt intake can do that to you. Check your daily food tracking very carefully for not only calories but salt and carbs. Also, try doing intervals or adding a few lunges/squats and some arm works into the cardio--it will really help a lot. You may be losing inches too. I went for over 4 months without losing one single pound (I was soooo disgusted!!) but I went down almost a whole size. Hang in there--you're doing it right, it will pay off sooner or later.

EASY ON THE SALT
Many people eat too much salt (sodium chloride). More than
three-quarters of our sodium intake comes from processed foods such as
frozen dinners, canned foods and processed meats. If you have
hypertension, cutting your sodium intake can help lower your blood
pressure and improve your overall health. The best way to cut down on
sodium is to eat more foods in their natural form, such as fresh
fruits and vegetables, and to limit processed and fast foods. Aim for
a max of 1500-2300 milligrams of sodium (2/3 to 1 teaspoon of salt)
per day.

My forward momentum has stopped. When I got on the scale, I had put on a pound and a half. What do you suggest. I think I have been staying within my nutrition guidelines, for the most part. Maybe I need to do better. I have been trying to alternate my cardio, so I'm not doing the same thing all the time. Anyone have any suggestions? Help!

There's nothing wrong with being real. I think sometimes if you pretend you're "fine" instead of telling people you are struggling, you also deprive those around you with the opportunity to grow by providing you with support. Does that makes sense?

All this running wears me down by the end of the week. I have run 40 miles so far this week (8 miles today) and plan on getting a few more in tomorrow.

Posted a blog on my visit to the radiation oncologist. He wants me to have 35 treatments starting in a couple of months.I want a consensus with my surgeon next week.

Not looking forward to radiation but you got to do what you got to do I guess.

You're not being a "downer". You're being authentic, honest about what's troubling you. It'd trouble me, too, were I given the news you've received! How can we offer support if we don't know? I'm glad you reached out.

I also suffered a knee injury but I couldn't afford surgery. My knee wont bend now and is very painfully. I'm having a hard time with exercise because I can't do much even walking is very painfully. Im trying to walk my cow around the block once a day but it doesnt seam to be enough. Before I hurt my knee I was exercising two hours a day and the weight was just falling off.

"For I know the plans I have for you", declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans for hope and a future". Jeremiah 29:11

I've just had my annual blood test done and the results show that I'm pre-diabetic. My Dr. was blunt. She told me that if I don't make it a priority to exercise daily, eat healthfully, and lose weight, I will develop diabetes. I knew that I was getting close and the knee injury, surgery, and recovery (I'm still recovering 9 months later) pushed my fasting glucose test over the acceptable limit.
So, this is it. I've started walking again. I love to walk! But my knee is swollen after only a daily mile for the past few days. To add insult to injury, I timed it. I thought I was clipping along, albeit slower than I used to. But alas, I walked a 22 minute mile- compared to the 15 minute mile I walked before my knee injury! emoticon
But I will not give up! I will not give up! I will not give up! emoticon

Feeling overwhelmed at times. I have decided to reduce the stuff that I have accumulated..but, honestly, I don't know where to start. I really feel if I could get it done, I would enjoy what I have more.

Any suggestions?

Perfect instructions.. thanks so much for your time.. I deleted the clydelady731 account. Hope you are fighting your web addiction.. my addiction is ebay.. before I knew it I'd spent over 150 dollars and that is cutting me really tight for my checking account..ooops.. got some super deals but the shipping really added up fast, despite the great prices on some items I wanted.
I don't really need anything, so I'm blessed.. well maybe we need a new bathroom faucet and shutoff valves since ours has sprung a leak under the counter at the fixture weld..LOL. but really I was just doing some last minute "self" shopping..shame on shelfish me.

fancyfree15- you sure you aren't my conscious from another life??? You said what I have said so many times. I let the opionion of the men in my life and of my friends surpress my exercise time. I know they mean well but the cute nick names and grabbying things on the shelves (to hold them if they think I'm gonna bounce up and down) are worth a chuckle but they do get old. I'm not really gonna create an earthquake if I jump up and down during an exercise..
Plus I'm to fat to jump high my knees wouldn't hold up. emoticon I love to bake and cook too and don't like anything to go to waste so sometimes i will not even fix a dinner plate and just pick from the leftovers.. . my scale doesn't move often either, but we must take heart.. It does move, we do have a goal, A goal we can achieve in baby steps.. Step out of your comfort zone to exercise in a group or with a budyy after you drop that first 10 lbs or what ever number you pick.. mix things up.. walk one day, strength train everyday you get a chance even if only while making the meals in the kitchen.. Keep it fun and you will get there.. I'll see ya along the way because together we can do this.

I just can't seem to remember to eat mindfully! I unthinkingly eat too much. I have a sweet tooth, which I can't seem to summon the motivation to squelch. I love to make (and eat!) homemade ice cream. I like to bake pies and cookies for the men around here - who don't gain any weight. I enjoy doing some calisthenics, weight training, and cardio but not when anyone is around. My husband and my son used to make fun of me. I tried to be a good sport but I came to dread anyone "catching" me exercising. If they come into the house, I stop. So the scale just doesn't move...
