Yes, I just finished 7 weeks of physio. I've taken the exercises she gave me and do them regularly. Plus now that I'm back to work I go on my lunch hour to the gym there. By the time I get home from work, I'm just beat and exercise never happens then. That's the only way I get it into my schedule. So I'm just trying to get strong again. The last 2 years I ran a 1/2 marathon, and previously many 10k runs. This year I can walk 1/2 hour and then I'm pooped. Thanks for asking. It helps to know someone is actually there connecting with what I'm saying.

Are you able to work out with a good physcial therapist? I went to one for a problem with my left hip and he sent me on my way able to exercise again after 13 years!

You've been through a lot. And I know what you mean about the dairy connection. I'm trying to learn more about raw diet and I scratch my head a lot. I just take one meal at a time! lol

Back surgery because I herniated a disk and there was no other option. Even then it took 7 months before I went back to work (from the time of injury and then surgery recovery) and now I'm working out to get stronger. I'll look into the resources you mentioned as well. Dairy is just so easy to snack on: apple and cheese, cottage cheese and fruit, yogurt and cereal with blueberries....
I made it sound like I don't eat fruits and veggies-I eat lots. Anyway thanks for your encouragement.

Welcome Naomi - good idea on looking at past threads for more information. Let us know if you have any questions. I hope you have a health food store by you; that's helpful. :-)

Since my diagnosis I've delved into much reading/research and know a couple things for sure: we need gut health for overall health. Your gut health can be compromised by many things, not just celiac disease. Either way wheat and dairy are not recommended. Though kefir and/or probiotics are if you can tolerate them. Some people have candida and have to go off all grains/dairy/fruits/sugars. Some people have parasites or viruses, etc.

Seventy percent of our immune system is in our guts. I'm currently reading PATIENT HEAL THYSELF by Jordan Rubin (he's the author of The Maker's Diet, which I haven't read). He had Crohn's, which I've read is the same as celiac, just in a different part of the bowel. He's talking about much the same stuff regarding gut/brain connection as many other resources I've read.

You don't have to have a celiac diagnosis to benefit. I hope this makes you feel better and encourages you to continue on your healing path.

Back surgery? Why? (My BIL had back surgery - through his stomach! He thinks they put back his intestines wrong as he's never felt the same since. He also says he's wheat sensitive but will not embark on a gf diet despite my info. Then again, he's a head case ;-) ).

I haven't actually been diagnosed with celiac disease or dairy allergy but 90% of my diet is dairy and wheat-based carbs. I'm always a bit rolly polly for my height and I suspect it's these two things. I had back surgery in March and was put on an anti-depressant and morphine throughout my pre-and post-surgery recovery. I started gaining weight again after I was off both those drugs-my stomach always seemed to be agitated. I wonder if it's just a matter of time before my body readjusts from being on drugs? I'll read through the postings here and see what's been said on resources for alternatives to wheat and dairy.
