I got a new book, a cookbook while out shopping yesterday. I am intending to try some of those recipes this weekend. I would tell you the name, but i dont have it with me, so i can't say. But the author is not celiac. she is a baker and chef and when she was introduced to the concept, she took it as a personal challenge for a new way to cook and create. So, she doesn't have to eat gf, so if it doesn't taste good, she keeps trying. I don't know, i am not sure how the recipes are now but i will post. I found some interesting things, like she uses sweet dairy whey in her baking etc. I like her book for being new, cause she talks about what she likes in her pantry, what tools work best and her recipes have dry together and then the wet are together, so you know what goes with what. I am interested in how the recipes work and i can't wait to bake this weekend!

Dear GF Nomad, that book has become a new best friend! I made the all purpose flour, then i made the basic sandwich bread recipe. It wasnt perfect, there is yogurt in the recipe and i used vanilla. this came out too sweet for a sandwich. The next time i am going to use plain yogurt and add some italian spices and some parmesan cheese. I think i can get some slices for sandwich out of it then. But all in all, the bread was really tasty. If you want the recipe, let me know and i will get it to you. thank you for the book recommendation. it really has helped me, esp with the emotional aspect. It helped to keep it in perspective and to keep from losing my marbles! All very important things! thanks again.

Dear GF Nomad, i am so new to the GF thing, that my head hasn't stopped spinning. So i bought on my Kindle the First Years book you recommended. I had to say, that was an awesome book. I read it from cover to cover in one day. I didnt want to put it down. I am overwhelmed with this whole thing. I am worried about how to stick with it, when i have been eating this way for 40 years. I am wondering how to work through this with work parties and family get togethers. The whole thing just scares the beejeebers out of me. But i had to say that the book was really helpful. I am going to try this weekend to get the flours and ingredients she recommends to make the one flour that she uses in all her recipes. Mix it and put it in one big container. I don't even begin to know how i am going to seperate out my kitchen . but One step at a time. Thanks for the book recommendation.

Enjoy Life - Cocoa Loco Chewy Bars

I bought them because I was in the mood for Chocolate and the picture on the box makes them look moist and delicious like Devils Food. Boy was I disappointed. The bars are tiny, they are dry not "chewy" and they taste bitter.

ENER-G Wylde Pretzels. So good that if I were declared cured today, I'd continue to buy them. Very crisp, and very good!
Amazon.com has a huge list of gluten free foods available. Trouble is you have to buy in quantity, but for something you use a lot of, it might be worth it.

I just tried Udi's lemon muffins. Just as good as the bread and bagels. I can hardly believe they are gluten free. I love the bread because youdon't have to toast it first to use it. It's nice and soft and 'holey' like real bread.

I've been 'lurking' a lot lately but had to share this. I just discovered Udi's brand (something new at my favorite healthfood supermarket. I got their bagels and a loaf of their multigrain bread. Oh my gosh, so good. I haven't had a bagel in over 10 years and this was so close to the real thing! It toasted up nice and airy and didn't squeak on my teeth like another kind I've tried. The bread was very tasty and and a nice texture too. I didn't even toast it for my packed lunch sandwich. I am a happy girl!

My favorite book of the moment is by Anne Louise Gittlemen, it's called the Fat Flush Plan. I love it because it is naturally gluten free. I also love her vitamins and protein shakes because they are also gluten free.

My current favorite treat is liquid stevia, you can get it in different flavors, and works great for making water palatable.

Pamela's Products simple bites extreme mini chocolate cookies. Run, don't walk, to the health food store to pick some up. It's in a purple bag.
They taste exactly like Oreos I'd you'd left them on the counter overnight, just a little soft. I was eating a few on the way home and had to check the bag to reassure myself they were on fact GF, they are so good!

I found a wonderful app for you iPhone users. It's called "Is That Gluten Free?" and well worth the $6. You can search by category, brand or ingredient, so you can search to see what candy bars are safe, what kinds of Frito's are safe, etc. It's great to have when you're in the grocery store craving something and too tired to read 56 ingredient lists.

I finally found bread that tastes like bread. I don't do much baking, so I usually look for frozen bread. It is called UDI. I have bought at our local Coburn's Super Store. Have you seen the new cake mixes that are gluten free? They look good, but like everything we have to buy, it seems to be so expensive.

I found a new product that was awesome. It's made by Simply Organic, and it's a banana bread mix, you just add 2bananas water & 1 egg. The 2nd time I made it I used 3bananas, egg whites and added a Tablespoon of ground Flax. This is yummy as a dessert. I also enjoy a slice for breakfast with my eggs. At the store it was $3.89 but if you search for a coupon on line you can get $1 off

Hi, everyone. I'm brand new to the GF life, but nonetheless enthusiastic about learning. I am delighted that I can still enjoy pasta. I just made shrimp/tomates/broccoli/onions over De Boyles Corn Spaghetti Style pasta and it was wonderful. My hubby didn't know the difference!!

Thanks for the tip about Living Without magazine, Mem. I just subscribed to it and Delight mag. Also, found Easy Eats, an online mag that is free for now and comes in your email.

We live in great times that afford us many GF choices and resources.

Thanks for the tips, all, and keep them coming. We can do this!

I have had to learn to cook being gluten free. No more store bought cookies. So I absolutely love Baking Classics by Analise Roberts. I am trying not eat fattening stuff but want a cookie every now and then. I make a batch of cookie dough for my daughter who is gf and myself and freeze the dough is small portions. When I want a cookie I cook 3 one for me and 2 for her lunch. Analise is a god send to cooking. I have made gf cream puffs! They freeze well after being cooked. Although this does not go with dieting.... when you want a treat why eat bad tasting gf food. emoticon

I've used vitacost to for ordering GF food. But my favorite stores are Whole Foods and Trader Joes, we don't have any near us, but I have little ones that I have to drive 3hrs away for check ups at Riley's Children's hospital in Indianapolis, so I stop there and pick up a lot of my stuff. They also have their own brand at Whole Foods that has GF products too. I'm recently trying to make the switch to organic produce, dairy product and meat too.

Lisa, Glad to hear it is helping you.

ChrisMarie, I haven't heard of the brand Foods that are Good For You. Do they say gluten free on the package? There is the brand Food Should Taaste Good that have those flavors. Here is the link for the mulitgrain. Other varieties can be accessed from the bar at the top of the page. www.foodshouldtastegood.com/#/multig
ra
in/
I questioned the gluten free status because the multigrain (only one I checked) has oat fibre. So I googled and found this explanation in their FAQ's.
"Yes! All of our chips have been tested and certified gluten-free by the Gluten Free Certification Organization, and all are processed on machinery that that does not process any items with gluten. (If you are concerned about the oat fiber in the multigrain chips, don't be! The fiber is extracted from the oats, and does not contain any gluten.) For more information, visit www.gfco.org."

This is such a great thread!! Since I live in PODUNK there is NOTHING for miles upon miles. No seriously, I mean the nearest health food store or even a HyVee is 45 minutes away. I try to do more shopping online so you all have helped me out a ton! THANK YOU!

Here's to Lookin' Good in 2015!

Check out the brand Foods that are Good For you. Sold by the cracker and rice cakes. They have sweet potato, olive, multi (GF) and chocolate. These are way better *_*

I agree vitacost is great. I buy some of my GF foods there and the vitamins/fish oil are a great price as well :)

I found a website called vitacost.com. Someone else posted a question of whether anyone had tried it. I decided to order from there. My boss orders her supplies from them and has had good experiences. I just ordered a large gluten free order and since I checked that I wanted everything shipped together it will only cost me $4.99 for the entire shipping.
The prices are less than the stores and healthfood store by more than a dollar per product so I fell that I've gotten a good deal. I've saved over $5 on the cost of the items that I would normally buy and it is being sent to my house and I don't have to spend the gas on making out of the way trips to the healthfood store.

There is another GF bakery in NY called Everybody Eats. The best bread, pizza and cinnamon rolls ever. Very pricey and expensive to ship. They come to the Gluten Free Gang conference the last few years. Worth the money.

OMG! Have any of you tried Skinny Crisps?? They are a fabulous cracker that is GF, egg-free, dairy-free. I'm practically addicted to them, several flavors: Cinnamon, chocolate brownie (the sweeter ones) and onion, sesame, and a few other that are savory.

I get them at Whole Foods, but I'm not sure they are big enough yet to be around nation-wide. But they are cheaper online: www.skinnycrisps.com

Hi everyone!
I have lots of products I love, but of course I can't think of them now (brain fog)!
Jules gluten free flour mix is my absolute favorite. I use it for everything-baking, breading, thickening, etc. It measures cup for cup the same as regular flour, and everything is already in it (ie: Xanthan gum) Check out www.julesglutenfree.com
