I accidentally got glutened somehow, and my hands hurt sooo bad. No, not dh, its arthritis. My autoimmune system must get triggered w/the gluten, and then the arthritis flares up. I was at work, unfortunately yesterday, and was struggling to open IV bags, pass trays, etc. I really suffered all day. Today I've got the abdominal cramping and D. Soooo not worth it!

Itís has been a very rough week for me. After accidentally eating some gluten last week, I have been suffering:
The hot flashes are back. I had not had a hot flash for months now Iím back to one every 2-3 hours. All that sweating has depleted my potassium so I have also been having muscle cramps.
My carpel tunnel is bad. I had not had symptoms for over a year, but this past week it had been very painful and nothing seems to take away the pain.
My feet hurt! The Plantar fasciitis that had gone away after I went GF is back. And is so bad I limp when I walk
I my sleep is restless and I wake up tired no matter how many hours I sleep.
My genital herpes flared up and was so bad I dreaded going to the bathroom.

I can feel my body going slowly back to normal. One thing is for sure: I WILL be more vigilant. I never want to experience these aches and pains again!

My co-workers were feeling sorry for me yesterday when they was all enjoying cake and fruit tarts. They donít understand that no food is worth this lingering pain!

This change to flour chips might be because there is a shortage of corn. I remember hearing about it on NPR earlier this week. The corn is being used for ethanol instead of food!

All the Tex-Mex restaurants in my area have gone to the flour chips (think they must be cheaper). Chicken Nachos used to be my main stay if we were going out to eat. Now I order tamales. So far no reaction from them.

For me, the longer I stay on the GF diet, the less attractive ďregularĒ food is for me. I love the way I feel when Iím GF!
Sleep soundly, wake up refreshed instead of restless sleep and waking up tired
Brain focused instead of brain fog
Quick and easy BM instead of painful constipation
Clothes fitting instead of stomach so bloated, people ask me if Iím pregnant.
Very few (2-3 month) hot flashes instead hot flashes every 2-3 hours

Just to name a few!

Thank you for the words of encouragement. It is hard not to eat what my other family members are eating, but the bloating and the other discomforts are definately not worth--the I'll try one little bite it won't hurt- when in actuality it does. Thanks again!

Keep smiling!

I was at Margarita Jones. I believe it is a chain. I have been working hard to stay GF. But I guess I have to learn to live with a set back like this and be more alert about what I eat. The pain and bloating is not worth it to me. I want to be GF.

I cheated a little this week and my hand and wrist joints ached soooo bad, I could barely hold a gf popsicle I was eating. Weird how gluten can affect us differently on different occasions. Work is my challenging place. Licorice everywhere, contaminated this and that. I do bring safe food, but the stress at work leads to me cheating sometimes.

Even if they're corn chips, they could be fried in the same oil as floured products ... I ate a chip fried in "dirty" oil ... didn't have a reaction, but it scared me and doesn't mean I didn't have damage.

Where was this KJeane? Chain or ma & pa place?

Tonight we went out to dinner and I ordered nachos. And darn if they were made with flour tortilla chips! I assumed they were corn chips! Blast! Who makes nachos with flour tortilla chips?????? I should have been more alert reading the menu and not assume. Now I am paying. My joints are aching. Oh well. A good lesson.

Never, ever, ever, ever would I intentionally eat a drop of gluten. Ever. Period. Cold turkey. Never.... ever. And I'm rewarded for my efforts with feeling the best I've ever felt. Ever.
Okay, I'm done with the never evers. emoticon

I think if you go back and read some of the posts from the past while, you will see many, many of us have more than one allergy.

Scottlori, you are only harming yourself! Others don't care if we cheat or not. Take some GF things with you when you go out if that is where you cheat, is at a friends, so you aren't tempted. Or take something over for everyone - safe ice cream, GF pretzels etc. Share!

I have found that if we cheat in front of family and friends, they don't realize it can be a deadly reaction we can have, so if you are educating them abuot the diet in the first place, do yourself and them a favor by sticking to it and saying over and over to them 'I can't have that; I can't eat that" etc. Make the similarity between someone allergic to seafood, or bee stings, and they get the message. We may not all react the same way, but it is still, an allergy.

My son has to be gluten free and sometimes we eat normal meals and he has something different. But, there are many many cookbooks with GF recipes and many times we make a GF meal and all eat it and it is very good. The main difference is the flours that are used for cooking. But there are great replacements. When I first started doing GF it was so hard because I was lost. But with good books and cookbooks, it has gotton easier over time. Brayden is on week 3 of GF. As far as corn, that is up to the individual. Corn itself does not have gluten in it, but many are sensitive to it anyway. So there are many options for eating!

I can do all things through Christ which strengthen me.

I am the only one in my immediate family with celiac disease and it is sometimes hard to watch what the others are eating what I should not be. I have tried to eat a couple of cookies and icecream lately with the ill effects. I am suppossed to aviod corn products as well--anyone else?

Keep smiling!
