I am gluten intolerant so of whatever irritant specks may be present in a product; my hidden swelling may remain slight and unseen by other people but big enough of a reaction for me to decide to avoid this one. This is how I keep my Fibromyalgia in check by avoiding every little thing of negative intent.

In the case of someone without my training, careful monitoring over seven years of gluten-free living, and Ďself analyzedí of all I put in me and on me; or doctor suggested points highlighted during my personal journal review appointments; would not be obvious to them. I love having my doctor of nutrition take this valuable time to explain things to me. Upon wheat removal and some elapsed time to adapt, maybe then other Celiacs and gluten sensitive intolerant people could identify a negative reaction even in any slight weak reactions as I found in my swollen hands and mild sleep disturbance.

This is one of my pet peeves is deliberate causing of irritation to see my reaction to my world and all the assumed healthy products in it. I make many of the skin care items in my arsenal to reduce itching swelling or stinging or I try to select ones with ingredients I know are not harmful in digestion or on my skin. Even harsh cologne or perfume or a doctor prescribed can be a discomfort. A stinging on contact often followed by a headache and a rash help lead me to find the good ones and which one to avoid. It may seem silly to write down every little slight but this is how I find my way around a very irritating pain and inflammation inducing world.

I run the risk of bed reactions in all I once loved and used when I retry them as well as when I attempt to try new products just coming on the market. This is a valid practice to avoid what hurts. It is a strong premise all allergy doctors quote to us. Until it is known what may cause a bad reaction all products are sent through careful label reading; then stop watch to pulse response procedures are taken and journal writ-in occurs.*

I build my own personal no-noís list under logical approval of my doctors.

* Take a pulse reading while looking at the stopwatch goes from zero to measured count. In 30 seconds count the beats, write it down. Then apply Ďwhateverí to the skin usually at the wrist and mark the stopwatch to count the beats in question. It could be a powder, whole food or lotion or oil; after application, then, write it down. Rinse off the tested stuff and compare the beat count. A faster count of the second time tested item after application may be a sign of irritation even though it is a sign of stimulation to cause the beat count to rise. This is one of about half a dozen ways to find the bad reaction stuff before becoming an internal use bad reaction victim.

I have that same problem so what I do is watch how I react to them and also I heard that you can call the company and ask them if they have wheat in them. Some of the shampoos do have the ingredients on the bottle and that is what I look for is wheat. Others were by what happened to my skin with I washed my hair. That is one reason why I will not buy TRESemmť because it causes a real bad reaction on my scalp.

If you tell God no because He won't explain the reason He wants you to do something, you are actually hindering His blessing. But when you say yes to Him, all of heaven opens to pour out His goodness and reward your obedience. What matters more than material blessings are the things He is teaching us in our spirit.

I appreciate that information, but that is a listing of the way they may be listed in foods, which I have already been doing for about 2 years or more now. Just never see any of the cosmetic items like lotions and such actually list those on them so was wondering what chemical names they go by so I don't use those lotions, shampoos and such. As I have several different lotions at home and have been wondering what I would look for in them. I know in the past if I am not sure with a food item I have either written or called the company that makes them to find out. But was unsure if companies that make lotions and such would know what the chemicals are made of that are in their products to be able to tell if they have gluten in them or not. Just figured there had to be a list somewhere of the chemical names, and not just names for how the different types of gluten are listed in foods.

Just curious as I know when reading labels on products like that it usually doesn't list as gluten and/or wheat, so what names or chemical names on the ingredients list would you be looking for to be able to know you are avoiding them?

I found out that same thing that happened to you but with shampoo and now I read all labels to make sure that it does not have wheat in it at all.

Island Margarita PocketBac hand gel; by Bath and Body Works, it will smell like sublime lime but really itís a wheat defeat. But I find a need to warn others of the hidden trouble within this one. There are wheat amino acids as the 8th ingredient. I just love a great scent in an alcohol gel sanitizer, donít you? Living with wonderful scents can help like a tonic to keep senses alert. Sniffing at troublesome ones are a disappointment. I do respect the lime scent and the cleaning power found naturally in all citrus fruit.

On first impression the tiny travel bottle with the even tinier font seems really good. With a deeper pulling of the inner fold over flaps of this label though I find the flaw in my choice.

I need a strong awareness of my body responses to stuff; even the mild irritant affects. My using this product would hurt in mostly silent ways. And since I am not a Celiac but gluten sensitive person I read the label more thoroughly. Too bad I did not see it when originally purchased it. This hand sanitizer will have to be a pleasant travel tool for someone else. I cannot use it.

Gluten rich grain whole and organic or byproducts of any kind has a swelling stinging or blistering affect on my skin or in my system. It often takes a long while to find this sensitivity. Once I nailed it, I do feel better for not using medicines and health and beauty things with gluten in them.

I usually plan to miss the fund raising pancake breakfast to avoid wheat flour circulating from the industrial kitchen vent and ducts. The dining room and kitchen use the same circulating air. Should I know I need to avoid smelling these things? I think the answer is a resounding, yes.

Also avoid Avalon Organics Volumizing Shampoo with wheat.
