I agree and it means reading all labels too., That includes toothpaste and shampoo's etc. For a long time I could not use certain shampoo's and did not know why and then when I found that wheat was causing my stomach and other problems, I decided to see what was in the shampoo's that caused so much problems and they have wheat in it too. One shampoo that I know that I can't use if TRESemmé because that caused my head to break out in sores, dandruff and itching so bad. Doctors would give me those shampoos that had stuff for the dandruff but that only lasted until I used regular shampoos and then would get it again. So now I just use Dr Bronner's products on my hair and if I even use some of the organic ones they do the same thing and I think that they may have some type of wheat in them. So I just stick to Dr Bronner's.

Mine was a serious life habit of making and baking homemade things at least once per week. If someone was blue or I needed something to take to meeting or a new friend, I baked. I’m good at it. My breads were always a hit. I still love to cook and bake but now the menu has changed. The emotional empty I used to feel because of the desire to share has to be filled with something different these days. This was part of my emotional denial I had to overcome. My world was based on wheat flour with sugar or yeast. Now I will not be in a room where raw wheat flour or any gluten food is being mixed or handled. It is not worth a cheat. My family knows to wash all baking pans and dinner plates must be washed by them not me.

My Fibromyalgia fills me with inflammation all over my body after an ‘oops’ of cross contamination or a moment on the lips or even finger tips. My fingers feel fat, my head aches which could last 2-3 days after consuming the wrong things. This compounds anxiety causing me to sleep less and this too adds up to more dominos of health trouble. I know I have less positive energy and motivation on the days that follow.

I have delightedly found out like Live_Amazingly; that dairy products filled with colors flavors corn syrup and other intensely heated ultra pasteurized products hurt my gut to cause painful inflammation. I am not lactose intolerant just food sensitive during my healing from all that past gut stress.

After seven days or seven years later the discomfort is real. It is still not worth a cheat for me today just as it was not in my first hours and week of being gluten-free.

I may not recognize the significance until some time later.
Is my resistance to change really that strong?

I gave up all carbs at the beginning. I ate only something without a label, for awhile. Melons, fruit, veggies, lean meat. I want to make sure I didn't get gluten. It was a test. After 2 weeks, I ate some gluten, I knew then, I would do my best to be gluten free for life.

2 weeks into my test period, I felt hugely better. One of my surprises, was that I lost all cravings.( chocolate returned) I did not seem to need to eat constantly. This was a new experience to me. I felt like I had kicked a drug habit.

Keep it up. It is well worth it.

yes but after you have been off of it for a while, when you go through the bread isle you will smell the yeast and it will smell like it is spoiled then.

I CRAVED anything bread-y carb-y wrong-y for me....for quite awhile. But at first when I caved, I suffered the consequences HARD CORE. I get really bad intestinal pain with gluten, even though I tested negative for celiac. It's hard at first, but once you're done dealing with the consequences it gets much easier!!

I just craved bread like crazy. But, know what was harder to withdraw from than gluten? Cheese! I craved, and craved, and CRAVED cheese for a VERY LONG TIME! It's been at least a year since I had cheese, and would still love a piece of cheese. Go figure...

Hello all,

I've been gluten-free for two weeks now, and have been having what I think might be withdrawal symptoms (e.g. depression, low energy/fatigue, mood swings, joint pain, etc.). I've been researching this a bit online, and there are a lot of people who have had similar experiences. I was wondering if any of you have been through the same kind of thing, and how long it took you to start feeling better?

Cheers,
Hvanthi.
